Moms and Dads, Ladies and Gents, I present to you the Holy Grail of Childhood Fashion:  A baby sock that stays on.

Why is it so hard to find a baby sock that stays on a baby’s  feet? I’ve tried Carters and Old Navy, Target and Wal-mart, even fancy schmancy Baby Gap socks, and you know what? They never stay on. It seems like I’m always missing one. Sometimes I wrangle shoes on The Boy just so his freaking socks will stay on.

In the summer it didn’t matter so much, but in the winter? The Boy can’t go around without SOCKS for crying out loud.

Okay, so back to the sock that actually stays on. Here’s the deal. I kind of sort of swiped it from daycare. Okay, not REALLY, but this pair of socks found their way into The Boy’s diaper bag, and I have no idea where they came from.

People, this is a problem. Because, being the ONLY pair of socks that actually stay on The Boy’s feet, I want more. I want to stockpile these socks in every size.

Alas, I only have one pair. And despite me examining every stitch on these socks, I cannot find a tag or name to get more.

So will you help me, Internet? Where can I get more of these socks? And do you, fabulous readers, have any suggestions on socks that stay on babies’ feet? Because there’s no way I am washing these puppies every day.

Remember when you were little and you were SO excited for your birthday? It meant parties and gifts and cake and lots of attention. These days? Not so much.

See, this year is a biggie. I am 35. I hate to even write that, and I’m not sure why. I mean, so far, my 30s are way better than my 20s.

In my 30s, I married the man of my dreams. In my 30s, I had two beautiful children with him. And, while I know age is nothing but a number, it’s still….35.

At 35, you check off a different box in the demographic section of surveys. I’m almost out of my “mid-thirties.” I’m almost 40.

At 35, you have to do certain things like get baseline mammograms and watch your cholesterol. You need to do things like save for retirement, and get that mole checked out.

At 35, you’re old enough to be wise, but young enough to still need your parents when you need some solid advice.

It’s halfway to 70.

Ouch.

And what am I doing on my birthday? Back to back meetings are planned, and lots of writing is on the schedule. Not too shabby. Maybe I’ll treat myself to sushi and wine for dinner.

But mostly? I’m looking forward to curling up with my kids and husband tonight, giving lots of hugs and spending time with the people who are most important to me in my 30s.

Does the Apple warranty cover shattered iPad screens? I wish I didn’t know that answer .

A few months ago, on the very last day of our family vacation – the same family vacation in which my then 2-year-old enjoyed playing games on my brand new iPad 2- said toddler shattered my iPad screen.

We’d been reading the interactive iPad book, The Monster at the End of This Book, while sipping milk from her sippy cup. She sneezed the cup hit the screen and before my eyes, the screen had shattered into a spiderweb of glass splinters.

I was shocked. In fact, I could not believe my eyes. I thought it was snot. I literally shook my head to try to get my eyes straight so I could see what had just happened to this $800 tech toy I just purchased.

And then I immediately asked Google: Does the Apple warranty cover shattered iPad screens?

When we got home, we went to the Apple store where they – get this – just replaced my iPad 2. No questions. Just, “Oh, here you go, let’s set you up with this new one.”

Maybe it was because I was 9 months pregnant. Maybe they felt sorry for me. Or maybe it was part of Apple’s warranty policy. Whatever the case, I won.

Fast forward to last week. My now 2 1/2 -year-old grabbed my iPad off of the kitchen table, and proceeded to drop it on the floor. My husband ran, picked it up and had a look of relief – it was safe.

But it wasn’t.

So, back to the Apple store to see what they could do. I still had the warranty, so maybe I could just get a replacement.

No such luck. It turns out, I had used my free pass for shattered iPad screens, and this time I’d have to pay.

A lot.

So, lesson learned. The Apple warranty for the iPad may be good for shattered screens…once.

Also? No more sticky fingers on the iPad.

P.S. I totally realize this is a First World Problem. Leave me alone.

So, a lot of you responded to my post this week about Snow White panties, and how, despite the fact this is the ONLY thing my daughter is asking for Christmas, we cannot seem to locate said Snow White panties.

You helped me out. You searched the Internet. You gave me ideas about where to look.

But sadly, no luck in the search for Snow White panties.

But my husband had an idea. And idea so great, I was afraid there might not be any implementation of said idea.

“What if we got regular toddler undies, and some iron on transfer paper, and I downloaded some Snow White images and ironed them on?”

Yes! Fantastic! Perfect! One more thing for me to do before Christmas!

“I’m going to run out and get everything we need to do it.”

My husband, all 6 foot 2 of him went to Target to search for plain, white toddler panties. And when he couldn’t find the toddler panties (“They’re not in the underwear section!”) he had to ask a sales person where the toddler underwear was.

And then that sales person took his man card.

Just kidding.

So he came home, underwear, iron-on paper and is ready to go with his craft project. All to make our daughter’s one Christmas wish come true.

And that, my friends, is why I married this man.
