Ahhh Autumn... as the leaves change and fall from the trees littering the ground with color, I begin to feel nostalgic..

...for HALLOWEEN!

As a kid the change of the season would trigger a sense of excitement for HALLOWEEN and trick-or-treating. My brothers & sisters and I had fun creating our own costumes, although we did wear store bought too, the ones we loved best and most remember are the ones we made. I've been a cat, princess, bum even a playboy bunny (ok that was when I was older and wore it while working as a cocktail waitress on Halloween, still it was handmade and turned out great!). In those days, late 1960s early 1970s, a lot of kids in our neighborhood did the same thing. I had two friends who, one year, turned themselves into Siamese twins by sewing pant legs and arms of shirts together, they had to get used to walking with the "middle" leg which was funny in itself and I still think it was one of the best costumes ever!

Once, my late brother Richard and I went trick-or-treating in our store bought costumes and after we arrived back home, decided to make new costumes and go out again. We raced to get ready, it was an adventure! We dumped our pillow cases filled with our "loot" and put on large shirts stuffed with pillows and belted them to keep them up, dirtied our faces with ashes from an ashtray (yes, people smoked in our houses then), messed up our hair and went out again as BUMS to the same houses. I don't remember another Halloween where we laughed so hard and had so much fun, while doubling our "booty" and "tricking" the whole neighborhood at the same time! It's one occasion I'll always cherish!

As an adult, with my own two girls, that "tradition" continued. When they were younger, I couldn't always afford store bought costumes, so we had to make our own. My eldest daughter reminded me, recently, with a photo of her and her sister in handmade princess costumes. I seriously mean handmade too, I sewed all the seams by hand because I sewed my finger once as a teenager and never wanted to use a machine again. My daughter said she still remembers the collar. It was made from bulk cotton that I attached to the fabric then added strokes of black magic marker to represent quills. Cone shaped hats with fabric streamers and a couple of handmade wands completed the outfits. We kept them for dress up play later on as I usually kept a bin of dress up clothes for them to play with year round and which I got from thrift stores. I shopped thrift stores before it was COOL, because I was a single parent....not because it was trendy!!

Creating our own costumes and decorations made the holidays just a little more special and I thought it would be fun to see what other sellers have made for this year! I make natural vine wreaths for all occasions, using vines found in my backyard during the spring thaw. I use recycled objects to decorate them with and they all have decorative ribbons tied off in a bow at the top!

These are part of a complete one of a kind Halloween party package I have listed in my Etsy shop, there is only one available!

I have a few ornies or bowl fillers this year all hand stitched and tied off with jute!

One of my creations for this season is a tribute to the classic film "The Wolfman" I call this one Maleva's Prophecy, featuring an antique cdv of a Victorian woman who I thought looked like the gypsy character in the movie!

Here are a few of my listings vintage items and altered artwork!

Here you will see ome of my late mother-in-law's costume jewelry, wish I wasn't allergic, she had some beautiful things! This aurora borealis choker is stunning! See more of her lovely items below!

Altered wine cork is now a pincushion or hat pin holder. I thought this would be a cute item for a sewing room or a vanity. I attached lace, raffia and a vintage button, this is for sale but the pins are not included, sorry! (Saving those for my next project, stay tuned to see what coming!)

Don't put all your eggs in one basket...only put in 3!!! Country homespun fabrics on the eggs and raffia add warmth to this vintage rustic wire gathering basket, fabulous farmhouse chic decor!

Here is one of my creations, U ROCK, is a One Of A Kind charm pendant!!

I have a set of 12 of these lovely Theodore Haviland Limoges dessert plates in the Veranne pattern, featuring sweet pink rose swags and gold trim!

This altered art doll assemblage is also a functional since you can still pull the string off the vintage thread spool if needed, but I made it to look like a SOUTHERN BELLE. I created layers on her skirt by using lace, doilies and trim, she has a doily hat with vintage jewelry on top, you have to see all the pics in my shop! Oh and did I mention she's a recycled clothespin??

This is one of my most OUT THERE pieces, I call it "DANCING CHEEK TO CHEEK" and it's made from a recycled violin, there are jewels galore and vintage sheet music scraps, lace and buttons. A gypsy tango motif with Italian and Spanish flair!!

Celebrating my first grand-daughter Hazel Mae's 1st birthday with pictures of the big celebration. A country fair theme. Hazel has come a long way in one year, born 2 months early at 3lbs 10oz! She is perfect and healthy and oh so beautiful!! Here is a look back over the past year, she had Grandma's heart from the beginning!

Here are some of the pics, my daughter Alice posted on Facebook of Hazel's 1st birthday country fair party! It had a real vintage look and she used a lot of vintage items like the dice game! My daughter did a fantastic job planning, designing, and making a lot of decorations for the party!

Happy FATHER'S Day DAD!!

He's 93 but I'm still one of his "Little Girls"! My dad is one great guy, his nickname "Honest John" and it's the truth! He is generous, loves his family above all else and he also loves all of his neighbors. He has always helped people fix their cars, mow lawns and snowblow their driveways. When we say dad it's time to stop doing all that work..his reply is.."nah, they are nice people and help me out when I need it". This world needs more men like my father!!

Celebrating Life and Love every day thanks to my MOM & DAD, what a joy my life has been having them as parents. I couldn't have had a better set...

...and i'm proud to be MOM to the two most beautiful daughters (inside & out)..Alice & Angela and MIL !(and future-mother-in-law) to their AMAZING Men! My SIL JOSH (and future-son-in-law) JEFF..

....and now this year Alice & Josh celebrate Mother & Father's Day with the newest member of the family Hazel Mae, she's very special, a miracle baby, born two months early at 3lbs 10oz, she's growing and doing remarkably well...

..i'm so proud and happy to be Hazel's Grandma, she's very near and dear to my heart..

..Mother's Day now means so much more to me..

..and now Hazel is going to be a big sister

...we are expecting Grandbaby #2 in October!! More exciting news we found out it's a BOY! Thrilled i'm going to have a grandson!!
