Schleich, a German company, has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP) to bring to life some of our most beloved characters and creatures from the World of Harry Potter!

Schleich's Wizarding World will launch in September 2023! Figurine sets will include: Harry Potter and Hedwig, Ron and Scabbers, Hermione and Crookshanks, Hagrid and Fang, Luna Lovegood and a Baby Thestral, and Albus Dumbledore and Fawkes.

Additionally, Schleich will release six single figurines of the most iconic creatures from the Harry Potter series: Dobby, Firenze the centaur, Aragog, Buckbeak, Fluffy the three-headed dog, and a Hungarian Horntail dragon - which will be the largest of the figurines at over 16 cm.

“The Schleich brand is known for authenticity, attention to detail, and quality all over the world, and Wizarding World will uphold these properties,” comments CEO of Schleich GmbH, Dirk Engehausen. “Whenever children play with our characters, they immediately enter their very own universe where there are no rules, no boundaries. To help you find the perfect gift for the expectant mama on your shopping list, I have found several great items that I want to share with you. Here are some awesome gifts for pregnant women!

I love these compression socks from Vim and Vigr. There are so many fun patterns to choose from. Wearing compression socks during pregnancy can help prevent swelling, help support good blood flow, and prevent annoying leg cramps. These socks are also just perfect for after baby is born. I know with my previous pregnancies the swelling came on much worst after the baby was born. And who doesn’t want to wear pretty socks while hanging out at home or in the hospital snuggling your new bundle of joy!

Another great gift idea for any pregnant mama is a great water bottle. During pregnancy women need to drink lots of water. Nursing mothers also need to drink tons and tons of water. It is difficult for new moms to remember to drink water as we are busy tending to our newborn’s needs. A solid, spill proof water bottle can be a huge help in making sure you take in enough fluids. I like Pura Sport bottles. They are made of stainless steel and free of BPA/BPS. We have enough to worry about with a new baby, we don’t need to worry about toxins leaching into our water. I personally love the fact that these are dishwasher safe.

Affton Walden is a mother of three with number four due in February. She keeps busy enjoying life as a wife and mother.

When my older daughter started to eat solids, I decided I would make my own baby food purees. Making my own purees was less expensive than buying jarred baby food. She had a milk intolerance, and I read that cross contamination in baby foods was a common problem. In addition to saving money, I was happy that making my own purees allowed me to control what went into her food (and what stayed out).

Her first food was avocado.  I simply used a food processor to mash the avocado. Once the avocado was smooth, I mixed in pumped breast milk to thin it out to a very loose consistency.

After Lily ate avocado for a few days, I tried sweet potato, then butternut squash. To prepare the sweet potato, I boiled the sweet potato, then used the food processor to puree it. I used some of the cooking liquid to thin it to my desired consistency. With the butternut squash, I halved it, removed the seeds, then roasted it in a shallow pan with a little water until it was super soft. I then pureed it in the food processor, and thinned it with pumped breast milk.

I used my slow cooker to make apple sauce and pear sauce once I started Lily on fruits. I would peel, core, and chop 4 -6 of pears or apples, place them in the slow cooker, added a little water, and cooked on high for 2-3 hours. Once the apple or pears were super soft and basically falling apart, I would puree them in my food processor, again adding the cooking liquid or a little pumped breast milk to thin the puree out.

When making the purees, I made much more than Lily would eat at any one time. I used ice cube trays to freeze small portions of the purees. When I decided what I was going to try to feed Lily, I would pull out one ice cube tray portion, and carefully heat it in the microwave, adding more pumped breast milk as needed.

Although slightly more work than picking up a jar of baby food at the store, making my own purees did not require any special kitchen gadgets and did not require much cooking time or food prep. The peace of mind of making my own purees as well as the money saved more than made up for the convenience of the jarred food.

Imaginative Play at Home

Invite a friend and her little ones over and enjoy imaginative play. Take an outdoor blanket and sit outside with your babies and have a play picnic. We love our Little Unicorn blanket. It’s super easy to keep clean and folds easily for storage. Bring out the play food and have a tea party. Melissa and Doug sets are a favorite around here. Pretend your little one is going to the store or ice cream shop and integrate more toys. If you are still playing with a younger baby, break out some balls and let them experience different sizes and textures. Bubbles are also a fun thing to play with in the summer.

Water Fun

Depending on where you live, there are several different ways you can have fun in the water with your little one. In my area, splash pads are at most parks. These fun water attractions are an easy way to beat the heat. Local pools are also a great way to enjoy the water with babies. Mommy and me swim lessons are offered at most community pools and YMCA centers. The bonus is you can learn about water safety and get your baby used to being in the water. MMB has several water, beach, and sand toys you can take with you if you live close to the beach. I love all of the Hape toys. MMB has also started carrying foldable wagons. Keenz and Veer are two super popular brands that have great reviews!

Fun Around Town

Get together with other moms and decide on a local place to meet up at. Here in my area, we have a children’s zoo. Bring the stroller or wagon or babywear in your favorite carrier. (I would be using my Tula!) Zoos usually have season memberships where you can stay as long or little as you want and then head home for the day. No worries about tantrums or cranky babies that way.

Many cities have aquatic centers or intriguing parks for little ones. Babies are not too small to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and outdoor activities. We love to take our Replay cups and snack stacks to the park for snack break.

Single use plastics are the main things polluting oceans. With 300 million tons of plastic being produced each year, half of that is used for items like straws, sandwich baggies, water bottles, and food packaging. I always find that I wish I was a little more prepared when we go for an outing once the weather is nice. I also find that by the end of the season, I’ve either found what we needed, or decided I didn’t really need it after all. Here are a few things I'm thankful for when the weather warms up:

Ems for Bubs/Kids

Ems for kids and ems for bubs are so useful for us! My toddler isn’t a fan of loud noises, and we’re musicians, so we bought a pair of these for our newborn and moved up to ems for kids once our baby could move her head around enough to knock the ems for bubs off. Here’s my very technical recommendation for which pair to buy: determine if your child is fairly mobile, and when in doubt, go for the kid’s version.

Outdoor Blanket

I inherited an outdoor blanket from a friend last year, it was a game changer! No more trying to remember to haul all the bag chairs or remember which blanket was the gross one we used last time we wanted to sit together outside. Just one handy item, designed to make the process of being outside easier.

Grapple

When my baby was old enough to start playing the pick-up game, I wish I’d grabbed a Grapple. Grapples are like pacifier leashes on steroids, using one of those to eliminate the dropping of toys, sippy cups, and pacifiers while you’re outside is a great way to improve your sanity level!  

Clean-up

My best friend is a mom of five fantastic kids. She has this parenting theory I’ve decided to adopt. We use lots of adult words around our kids that they don’t understand from a young age. We talk about being kind with our 1-year-olds when they throw tantrums, and I tell my two-year-old to be respectful when she yells. Why? Well, because we think if our babies hear those words they’ll learn them eventually and start to be able to understand big concepts like kindness and respect. I also apply this theory to the books we read. I try to stretch my toddler’s attention span and her comprehension level with the books I choose to read. Knowing that she won’t understand it all, but soon enough, the new words and phrases we use will seem normal to her. Eventually she’ll be on to bigger challenges.

I felt really encouraged when I did a little research on building vocabulary in toddlers. I found this book, Thirty Million Words written by a surgeon who works installing cochlear implants in children. I found a lot of debate about the study that this book was written about, but I didn’t find anyone debating the concept of using a large vocabulary around your toddlers.

“By the end of age three, the human brain, including its one hundred billion neurons, has completed about 85 percent of its physical growth, a significant part of the foundation for all thinking and learning. The development of that brain, science shows us, is absolutely related to the language environment of the young child.” {Suskind, page 5, Thirty Million Words: Building a Child's Brain}.

I’ve been working a lot with Baby University books, and it’s really cool to talk about neutrons and chemical bonds.

I went to MMB the other day I saw these awesome Babylit Storybooks! There are a few different ones to choose from.

When your little one is ready for alittle more meat to their classic tales than the
board books can provide, I hink these are a great next stage in growing your toddler’s vocabulary words. I plan to add a couple to our Easter basket!

We’re also stalled in the potty training realm, so I’ll be breaking out Potty Palooza, MMB’s most popular book! If you don’t have a copy, it’s a must-own for all parents of toddlers!

For your younger littles, I always feel like a snuggly JellyCat and book combination is a great way to add some new reading material to your home. I find a stuffed buddy with a story is a more loved friend.

Toddlers learn words when they are exposed to them. Talk to your little ones often, and read to them as much as you can!

Having been a SAHM, I always wanted to make sure that my daughter was able to do all the fun things that she would have gotten to do had she gone to day care. Arts and crafts were one of those things. But let’s be honest, it is messy and the last thing you want to clean up after just mopping the floors…but there is hope!

First, don’t make the same rookie mom move I did and go for the dollar store stuff thinking that it’s just going to get used up in a minute, so what does it matter? Well, when it ends up on the wall, the floor or the couch and unable to be cleaned out… it matters a ton. Melissa & Doug make awesome quality washable paints and stamp pads that can be used on their sketch books that will leave your house stain free.

One super cute project that can be used with washable paints is painting with dolls or cars. Using easel paper, kids dip plastic doll feet or tires into paint and have them make little footpaths or cool tracks along the paper in all different colors. It’s also an alternative for kids that don't like to get their hands messy and they get to give their toys a little bath after.

Using different types of mediums is a great way to engage your toddler with art. Using a sketch paper, paints, farm animal stamps, and cut out squares of different colored construction paper they can make a barnyard or pasture scene. The paper squares are used for collage trees or rainbows. They can use paints to make the sky and clouds.  

If you’re looking for something that will leave virtually no mess at all Melissa & Doug also have loads of reusable sticker books, which let your little create scene after scene with easy to peel off (from any surface) stickers. Peaceable Kingdom also make great reusable sticker totes. And there is not much better than the Water Wow books where they can paint with water again and again, it’s seriously like magic.

However it’s done, inspiring a love of art in your child is a wonderful thing! It’s also a huge bonus when it doesn't last forever on your carpet.

Lisa is mom to a wild toddler that prefers to dump all of the paint out at once, so she appreciates a quality washable finger paint.

I have this dream that sometimes it works really well, and sometimes is a total fail. A couple of my friends do it pretty successfully though, they rotate toys on a regular basis. It makes a lot of sense, kids playing with the same toys over and over again get totally bored. Boredom is awful for parents. So, if you’re interested in trying some toy rotation to keep things new, we’ll go over the basics and some tips for getting a good plan.

1. Create some space. Clear out a closet, invest in a sturdy bookshelf or cube organizer. You’re going to need somewhere to organize these rotation boxes and while you’re at it, grab some sturdy rotation boxes.
2. Sort all the toys. Have your husband take the kiddos for a morning at the park, grab yourself a yummy snack and gather all the toys. All of them. Your goals: sort and minimize. This is a great time to get rid of all the duplicates, orphaned toys from play sets that are disbanded, and the junky ones that are on their last leg. Don’t be afraid to let it go.
3. Sort like toys into boxes. Gather your arts and crafts, dress up toys, pretending toys, or whatever kinds of bins you can dream up from your current collection. I’d keep a notebook nearby during this process so you can take notes on what things you have way too many of, and what bins are a little sparse so you’ll know what to request for the next holiday.
4. Pick a few toys that you’ll leave out all the time. My daughter’s kitchen stays out all the time, mostly because it’s too big to put in a bin, but also because she uses it almost daily. Her new doll house will also be one of those toys, because it doesn’t fit in a bin. I’m thinking about tucking those big toys into the spare room and switch those out on a monthly basis instead at some point.

Currently, I use a cube storage system, I’ve got a toy bin of our favorite fat brain toys, one with blocks and plastic dinosaurs because we’re into dinosaurs at our house. A musical box, and (full disclosure here) a couple of miscellaneous bins that really need cleaning out again. I also have a ton of books we also rotate on a regular basis to make sure mom and dad don’t get bored with those. Toy rotation helps my toddler stay entertained, which keeps us all sane!

It’s March and that means spring is here! With spring comes the anticipation of sunny days outside, play dates at the park, and letting my little ones release some energy. However, there is always plenty of rain in the month of March. Where I live, March can bring more showers than sun. Luckily, MMB has you covered, momma, when it comes to rainy day entertainment. Here are some of my favorite items to survive the rainy days of March with littles.

Splashing in muddy puddles is not just fun for our girl Peppa Pig, it’s also a blast for

Our family loves to do puzzles on days stuck inside. My 2-year-old loves any puzzle that makes sounds, so the Melissa and Doug puzzles are her favorite. So even though it may be cloudy and gloomy outside, it doesn’t have to be inside. Get activities for your kids that you can all enjoy and let the fun begin!

My other favorite Hape classics are the transportation toys. These high quality trains are super well made, and have lots of extra options, and my favorite part are that they’re brand free. I don’t know why, but I'm not into character toys for my kid. I love that these aren’t plastic, and they’re not covered in branding. All the varying pieces mean you can add to your collection according to your budget. I love the idea of grabbing a larger piece for a special holiday and adding smaller pieces to round out your collection over time.

Toys

One of my favorite things about MMB is the toy selection. I love finding new, creative toys for my kids. Our home is full of Melissa and Doug toys. We love the wooden food toys. We store these in Rubbermaid containers that are easy to access and keep together. Another popular item in my house are the Gonge Riverstones. I purchased some large Ziploc bags and we keep the sets in the bags after they come out of the boxes. Then, each bag goes into a container, so my kids can easily identify the sets.  

Jujube

Another item I love to buy from MMB is Jujube. Jujube provides high quality mom bags that are machine washable, stylish, and versatile. I use my Jujube in my diaper bag, in my bathroom, and even in my kids' lunches. For me, the easiest way to store Jujube is to do the bag-within-a-bag method. You simply put smaller bags inside bigger bags. Then, you make sure any handles are visible for easy access. After this, you can hang them in a closet or store them up on a shelf. I like to keep my Jujube items that are the same print together.

MMB has some amazing chocolate and caramels. Wetbags make great storage containers for mommy’s chocolates or caramels.

MMB has a great selection of children’s books and art supplies, as well. In my home, the best way to keep these neat and tidy is to avoid buying excess and keep things visible in a container. We simply get the container out when we want to color or do a sticker activity. The Melissa & Doug puffy sticker sets have been a favorite lately.

So, moms, what have you done to organize and keep your home tidy? I am no expert like Marie Kondo, but I have learned a lot over the last 7 years in this journey of motherhood. As we prepare for our fourth child, I am learning I will need to adapt and learn more to make room and keep our things tidy.
