Meatloaf is a great way to get in veggies with your kids and is delicious with some mashed potatoes and a salad or green beans. For dessert choose homemade popsicles

Ingredients for Stove Top Stuffing Meatloaf Recipe

• 1 pound ground beef
• 2 Large eggs
• 1 box Stove Top Stuffing
• 1/2 Cup Ketchup
• 1/2 Cup water

If you are using lean ground beef, you will need to add a little more water. You can also switch out the ketchup with BBQ sauce and you can also add vegetables like onion or fresh herbs.

Directions for Stove Top Stuffing Meatloaf Recipe

Combine the ground beef, dry stuffing mix, eggs, water, and HALF of the ketchup in a spacious bowl.

Grease a bread loaf pan and transfer the mixture into it. Alternatively, if you don’t have a pan, shape the mixture into a loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with foil. Evenly spread the remaining ketchup over the top of the loaf.

Place the prepared loaf in a preheated oven set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit. If you lack a thermometer, you can check for doneness by cutting the meatloaf down the center.

Allow the Meatloaf to rest for 5 minutes before serving to your family.

Even older kids love this mat because as long as they have markers, they can draw anything they want. Highly recommend this mat for your kids or grandkids.

When it comes to toddler beds, a hardwood frame offers the strength and longevity to hold up to any toddler. Hardwood vs plastic resists wear and tear and the antics of any energetic toddler .

None of us want our toddlers falling out of their bed in the middle of the night, so guardrails can be a great option when it comes to safety. 

Guardrails are typically made of wood or steel, but can also be a mesh that keeps your toddler in their toddler bed throughout the night.

Additionally, they also give psychological cues that there is danger past that barrier, so the antics of jumping or rolling are stopped.

There are plenty of choices when it comes to a mattress for your child’s toddler bed.  Sometimes you can simply take the crib mattress and use it, or you may need to purchase a new mattress.

Memory Foam Mattress:

The great thing about a memory foam mattress is that it molds to your toddler’s body shape. If your child tends to toss and turn a ton whale sleeping, this can be a great option.  

This mattress isolates motion, so they won’t wake up every time they toss and turn, meaning both you and them get a good night of sleep. 

Innerspring Mattress:

This mattress has the typical coil springs, and there are some positives for using this kind of mattress in a toddler bed.

One, it keeps them cool. Because it is breathable, they won’t get hot at night, kicking off the covers or tossing and turning. 

Second, they are a lot more durable. They will hold up for years to the jumping and aerobics that comes with a toddler in a toddler bed. 

Hybrid Mattress

Finally, you can choose a hybrid mattress that has the best of both world. You have a coil base but a memory foam top. 

They are made to adapt to your child’s body as they sleep, but also provide support with the coils. The mattress you choose really depends on how your toddler sleeps.

Neutral Toddler Bed Options

This sleigh bed can easily accommodate a boy or girl with gender-friendly bedding. The guardrails are attached, so no worry of them taking them off or even rolling out of bed. 

It’s still close enough to the ground that it is easy for them to get in and out of bed. It also uses your crib mattress, so no need to buy another mattress. 

Finally, it comes in four colors, so no doubt you can find the perfect match for the nursery decor you already have in place. 

This modern toddler bed has detachable guard rails and thus can grow with them as they don’t need the guardrails. 

Additionally, just like the other toddler bed, it uses your crib mattress. It is only available in this slate gray color, but is really neutral as bedding can definitely change the look of the bed. 

Finally, it should be noted that it holds any child up to 50 pounds, so you won’t need to worry about buying a new bed anytime soon.

Isn’t this bed cute? This bed is on the floor, so there is no concern about anyone falling out of bed. It also has rails and, as you can see, one side is full rails while the other side has a partial rail, so they can climb in and out. 

This bed will need a twin-size mattress purchased. It does have wood slats on the bottom, which we talked about earlier to provide excellent support while they sleep.

So no matter how much or little you are involved with Elf on the Shelf below we have added our favorites that we have done with our family, plus maybe a little sELFie too! Get ready to take the stress off this holiday season with these great Elf on the Shelf ideas! Plus check out our awesome Elf on the Shelf Free printables to help you have fun with Elf!

Fun Elf On The Shelf Ideas

Day 1  – Ok we all try to think of the best way for the Elf to appear the first night. This year we went with a simple hanging out on the front door wreath. The kids were sitting in the kitchen and nonchalantly knocked on the front door. Let the games begin with all the fun elf on the shelf ideas we share with you!

Day 2 – One of the things you have to take into consideration with placement of the Elf is, do you have any pets? We have 2 dogs one of which is a puppy. I wanted the Elf to have fun, but not get eaten in the process! Here the kids found him relaxing in a lantern full of marshmallows. They did end up making a game out of who can eat the most marshmallows without touching the Elf. I was impressed with them!

Day 3 – I made sure to be up before the kids this morning because watching them get ready for school all while not trying to touch the floor was hilarious! I might have gotten fussed at a time or too for touching the floor, so I was informed I had to know drag my burned foot. 

Day 4 – So this placement served a bit of purpose. The kids had been arguing a bit more than normal so the Elf was placed in a place where they would see him all the time. Needless to say our children’s behavior did improve…at least for that day!

Day 5 – Ok, by now the kids were getting more excited about what the Elf will do. They did say that they wished the Elf would color the bathroom with shaving cream. Since we would have to still use the bathroom throughout the day and I would end up cleaning the shaving cream up, we went with good old toothpaste on the counter. My son did want to try to brush the Elfs teeth that morning.

Day 6 – I don’t think I’ve heard my kids laugh as much as they did the morning they found the Elf tied up in paper garland on the tree! I felt pretty good about myself that day! Who would have thought a little elf game would boost my confidence. 

Day 7 – Even Elves like to play with Perler beads! One of the funniest things as adults with the Elf is that it brings a bit of the childlike playfulness back that we tend to not have as much since responsibilities and running a household take a front seat. We have more creative and fun elf on the shelf ideas for you to put to use.

Day 8 – Sometimes after all the hard work is done you just need a day to lay down and admire your work! This is just what the Elf did. He completely understands that every so often with the hustle and bustle of daily life you just need a little rest day. Luckily the kids took the idea too and we have a pj and movie day!

Day 9 – Well the Elf was back to his normal antics with a bit of menu planning. I would preface this with be careful how fun you make these because I spent all day trying to explain to my kids that if the elf has decided to menu plan then he has to cook it, but since he doesn’t move then they will have to eat what I made. Thankfully they accepted that…ok crisis averted!

Day 10 – Hey even the Elf will bring his own crafts! Our children were super excited to find something interactive on this day. They were excited to be able to see the days tick by as we got closer to Christmas. I remember our youngest child refusing to tear off a link in the chain because that meant the elf would be leaving us soon, but not before a few more Elf games.

Day 11 – The elf once again perched himself high to keep a better watch on the kids and their behavior. Every morning it was a race to see who could find him first. I am all for a little competition if it’s friendly. So he colored on the windows and watched them all day. 

Day 12 – Sprinkles for breakfast? Well that’s what ended up happening this morning. Ok maybe I should have thought this one through, but it’s the holidays so whatevs! My kids first thought was YAY SPRINKLES, which quickly turned to DID IT SNOW? Slight disappointment, but they did get to eat sprinkles! Even I sneaked a few! I did clean this up after they went to school and blamed it on the dog, hehe!

Day 13 – Even the Elf needed a little caffeine boost this morning! I have so many more fun elf on the shelf ideas for this one next year, but you will have to wait to see those! What fun ideas have you come up with? We would love to see your elves too!

Day 14 – Today the Elf, who my kids have named Mr Jingles, brought a friend. Unfortunately his friend melted with the warm weather we have been having. For this we used cloves for his eyes and mouth, tiny slivers of carrots for his nose, and little twigs for his arms. At the end of the day I noticed the carrots were gone. I asked my son and his reply was, well if he melted then he doesn’t need a nose! Well…you aren’t wrong about that!

Day 15 – Wrapping presents should have been easy for an Elf, but with no fingers he got a bit tied up. The kids had been snooping through the gifts the day before so we placed him under the tree. It did the trick and the kids left the presents alone until Christmas!

Day 16 – Sometimes along the way you find friends! The nutcracker was a gift for our son a few years ago when he was obsessed with them! Today Mr Jingles hopped on his back for a fun piggy back ride! There really are endless ideas you can do with your elf, this is just another one of ours!

Day 17 – Just a little sugar for Mr Jingles this holiday season while swinging from the mistletoe! Spread the love this year with a bit of joy and fun from the Elf on the Shelf. I have some friends with older kids who would probably roll their eyes at this one, but my younger aged children thought it was adorable. You can modify as it suits your family.

Day 18 – I will admit this one was funner for me. My kids woke up to 2 raw eggs sitting on the kitchen table that instructed them to sprinkle some magic dust on them before they went to bed that night! It was fun listening in on their conversations about what the eggs would turn into. One of them said they hoped it was a chicken and another was hoping for a baby sister. You will have to keep scrolling to find out what it really was!

Day 19 – Thankfully baby sisters nor baby chickens appear that quickly! These are huge treats in our house and they were super excited to have these for breakfast. Kinder eggs have a delicious creamy side with a little crunchy cookie thing on one side and a tiny little toy on the other. Needless to say our kids were not disappointed!

Day 20 – We had a bit of traveling to do this year and the kids were worried that Mr Jingles wouldn’t be able to find us. So I packed him up in a jar one night that said he heard we were going on a trip and asked if he could come along. Worked like a charm.

Day 21 – Mr Jingles hijacked my phone one night and took a few sELFies and even used a filter or two. My children love going through my photos and they were laughing like crazy when they found these!

Day 22 – The day turned into a baking day since the Elf brought the kids a box of gingerbread cookies! We had so much fun creating fun memories that the kids will no doubt remember! I love the holidays and being able to watch my children’s faces light up with excitement every day.

Day 23 – Today Mr Jingles wanted to send a friendly reminder to the children that Life is Beautiful. Sometimes our days don’t go as we want them to go and friends at school can be mean too, but life is beautiful. So remember to find something good about today. Mr Jingles time is almost up with our kiddos this year and I will miss him too. It’s been fun playing the Elf Games.

Day 24 – It’s Christmas Eve, kids are finally out of school and today there’s a race to find all the candy canes. At first I thought they would eat all they found, but to my surprise they ended up decorating the tree with them! They said that since it is Mr Jingles’s last day then he should enjoy the candy canes too. 

Day 25 – It’s Christmas morning and Mr Jingles our Elf is officially gone. The kids were sad going to bed, but we’re excited to find that he left them one more treat. They are eagerly awaiting next year when he makes his return on December 1! At least I have a break for a bit now!

There is a lot that I learned during our time with our fun elf on the shelf ideas. I will admit that this was our first year doing it. I didn’t want to buy into the hype when our kids were little, but I thought, “Hey, they are only kids once….might as well!”. It has been the best decision ever! I’m glad there are photos that show what antics he was up to so we make sure not to repeat them for next year. I love baking cakes. Baking cakes fills my home with delicious smells while cooking and fills my heart with joy when I’m eating them after they come out of the oven. But, when I bake in the warmer months it can really heat up my house. Not my favorite. So, I’ve been on somewhat of a quest to find the perfect summer dessert recipe – and I think I’ve finally found it! This Apple Pie Ice Box Cake is delicious! And, no baking required. You can just whip it up and stick it in the fridge. It comes out cool and refreshing! This multi-layered dessert is fun and easy to make and would be a good one to get the kids in on.

You won’t need a ton of supplies – I mean the best recipes are simple, right? Aside from the possible whip cream fight that may happen after the last step, this should be a pretty simple cleanup as well. So grab your supplies and get ready to make one of my favorite summer desserts.

What You’ll Need:

• 1- 1.85oz package of instant vanilla pudding
• 2 Cups of 2% milk
• 1- 8oz container of whipped topping, divided
• 2 packs of cinnamon graham crackers
• 1- 20oz can of apple pie filling
• *Optional: cinnamon to sprinkle
• Mixer (hand mixer or stand)
• Spoon or non-stick spatula

You can swap out whatever dairy or non-dairy you prefer here for the apple pie ice box cake. There are some great non-dairy options these days, so choose whatever works best for you and your family.

How To Make Apple Pie Ice Box Cake

Using a stand mixer with whisk attachment, (or an electric hand mixer, whatever you have) combine the milk and pudding mix. Beat on medium/high speed for about 2minutes. Once it’s mixed, let sit for 1-2 minutes.

After it has set, add in half of the whipped topping into the pudding mixture and fold in until combined using a spoon or non-stick spatula. I use these. They make clean-up a little easier.

Now the fun part. Add a layer of graham crackers to a 9×9 baking dish, breaking to fit. It’s worth noting that if graham cracker pieces aren’t breaking how you’d like, use a knife. Place graham cracker on a cutting board and use the center of the knife to push straight down. I’ve found this will cut evenly without cracking. The fun part is nibbling on the extra graham crakers as they are my favorite.

Pour in half of the pudding mixture and spread it around evenly. You’ll want to make sure it gets down in between the graham crackers pieces of the apple pie ice box cake.

Then, add another layer of graham crackers, breaking pieces to fit like you did above. We finally have the base of our apple pie. Now to add the filling!

This when the apple pie ice box cake really comes together. Add the apple pie filling and spread evenly. It’s just something about the rich color of the apple pie filling and the wonderful smell that transports me back to the carefree days of my youth. Ah, to be a kid again.

Top that with a final layer of graham crackers. You guys know how this works now. The graham crackers create a wonderful crust on top and bottom, and their cinnamon flavor compliments the pie so nicely.

It’s time to pour on the remaining pudding mixture for the ice box cake. Spread this around as best you can to get ready for the last whipped cream layer.

Lastly, add the whipped cream to the top and spread evenly. Once you’re done, just place in refrigerator for a minimum of about 4 hours. You can chill it longer if you want it. If you want add a little pizazz to it, sprinkle the top with cinnamon before serving.

And you’re done! I hope you enjoy this apple pie ice box cake as much as I do! It is fun to make and even more enjoyable to eat. I think my kids have more fun making this than I do! This recipe is great for those warm summer days and backyard get-togethers. Also, this makes a nice snack after the kids go to bed. 🙂 They don’t need all that sugar anyway.

If you need a great party appetizer recipe that looks amazing–but is secretly easy, this homemade crab rangoon is just what you need. And bonus: it tastes so amazing, your friends will think you had these delivered for the party. They’ll never know that you spent a few minutes making them yourself unless you tell them!

Homemade Crab Rangoon

When I was planning to attend a New Years party recently, well, kind of–maybe some weeks ago…you know–I decided that I was bringing a fun and unique appetizer that would really wow my friends. So, I took to my recipe box and found a fantastic recipe that I haven’t made in a while, but that is one of my favorites for a more “fancy” hors d’oeuvres: homemade crab rangoons.

Filled with a creamy mixture of some of the most wonderful flavors to ever grace my tongue, you almost feel like you’re having some kind of decadent treat only made for super special occasions. But the real truth is, this is such an easy recipe that you could make it anytime you wanted for a fun snack. That can be your little secret though. Ha!

What You Need to Make Homemade Crab Rangoon

• 6 ounces crab meat (it’s ok if it’s canned, just drain it–I actually prefer this to imitation crab, if those are the options, but getting a steamed crab leg or two from the grocery market is no big deal, either)
• 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
• 3 small scallions (chopped – green only)
• 1 clove garlic (minced)
• 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
• 1 teaspoon lemon juice
• 1 egg
• 30 wonton wrappers
• Vegetable or peanut oil for frying

How to Make Homemade Crab Rangoon

Using a hand mixer, whisk the cream cheese in a medium-large bowl to fluff and soften.  Add the drained crab meat to the cream cheese and whisk again. This can be done by hand of course, but the hand mixer is much more efficient. 

Add the chopped scallions, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, sesame oil, and lemon juice to the cream cheese/crab mixture and mix once more.  Set aside to prepare the wonton wrappers. 

Beat the egg with a fork and use a rubber brush to brush egg wash onto the edges of the wrapper.  Place ½-1 Tablespoon of crab mixture into the center of the wonton. 

There are many ways to fold a wonton wrapper. This recipe shows bringing opposite corners together and sealing at the top in a triangle until about halfway down. Then take the other opposite corners and bring the point of the corners into the mid section of the previous corners. 

Be sure to pinch the seams firmly and press out any and all air that you can, or else your rangoons will burst when deep frying due to air pockets. 

Heat a cast-iron skillet or dutch oven with at least 3 inches deep of vegetable oil or peanut oil. Heat to 350F.  Once the temperature is reached, drop in your rangoons easily. They should sink to the bottom and stay there for a moment, and then float to the top. Frying should only take approximately 3 minutes total. You can turn them for even browning, but again be careful not to pop the wrapper as it expands. Using a slotted spoon or mesh strainer, remove from oil and allow to dry on a plate with a paper towel.  Best when eaten warm with your favorite dipping sauce. 

Ideas for How to Serve Crab Rangoon

Now, I know that it’s going to be really hard not to just pop these crab wontons into your mouth, one after the other, honestly. I mean, I get it. They’re really good–they smell great–and you’re probably hungry after having made them. But you must resist.  Remember: you’re making these easy appetizers for the party, right? Right. So, better to focus on the presentation of your hors d’oeuvres and how you’re going to set them up for the guests to enjoy. 

Some ways I plan to serve my homemade crab rangoons:

• Dip bar. There are so many yummy dips that go perfectly with crab wontons, so you just can’t go wrong with serving these alongside a dip bar. You can set up little bowls of  sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, thai chili sauce, peanut sauce, and even ginger sauce. A tiny walking-rangoon bar might be a fun way to present your party set-up! 

• Pupu Platter. One of the things I like best about crab rangoons is the finger-food nature of it. There’s not a better way to eat them than with your fingers. So what better way to serve your wontons with crab than to set them up with some other finger foods on a large serving platter with a little hibachi flame and some skewers?!

But let’s be honest, there’s not just a whole lot you have to do to Chinese rangoons to present them. They’re these little crab pillows that are so cute that you can literally just pile them up on a platter and everyone will be headed straight to them for a bite. So, don’t stress about how to make them look appetizing–they look appetizing just in how they come out of the pan.  Once you’ve made your crab pillows, you can almost just let them drain, then pile them up and serve just that way without anything else done. Tossing off your favorite dipping sauce is just a bonus!

This homemade crab rangoon is a great party appetizer recipe that. These Crab Rangoons taste so good that your friends might think you ordered them in.

Ingredients

Frying should only take approximately 3 minutes total. You can turn them for even browning, but again be careful not to pop the wrapper as it expands.

It’s a busy thing, camping, but, there is, sometimes, some down-time, no matter how “cool” I try to make our trip. Even if there’s only 5 minutes of downtime, nothing is more boring for kids than those 5 minutes when there’s no screen. And nothing is more annoying to parents than that 4 minutes and 30 seconds that the kids are whining.

Personally, that small amount of time is pretty much torture in my memory of the campouts I had with my family as a kid. I would hate for that to be the memory my kiddos take with them from our family campout, so I made these awesome free printable games for camping.

Super simple games that any kid can play, these fun camping games are a great way to fill those few minutes in the morning after everyone is awake but before you start getting the camp up and around. Or after lunch, during that drowsy time before the fish are biting. Or before bedtime, when it’s not quite lights-out, but it’s getting dark. Or, if you’re busy setting up camp as the parent, but you’re trying to keep the kids occupied while you’re making the tent…well, this is the perfect time to pull out some camping games, for sure. Turn those 5 minutes or horrid boredom into an awesomely fun time that can last for so much longer.

4 Free Camping Game Printables for a Family Campout

I don’t think the downtime is all bad, though. That’s when kids get creative and learn to use their imaginations. So, don’t use these games as a way to fill every second, but to help them ignite their imaginations. If the kiddos are having a good time and don’t need any help keeping themselves occupied, you can keep the games in your back pocket. But, when the kiddos start with the whining…oh, the whining…that’s when you pull out the games. You can print them here! Don’t forget the Answer Key!

Oh, and don’t forget, when you’re printing these awesome games for camping, that you’ll want to bring along some kind of prize, if you decide to award anyone for winning. Something simple like a piece of candy, a tiny toy or a dollar would be a great reward for whoever finishes finding the most items the quickest.

1. Give each kiddo a copy of the word search and ask them to work on the free printable camping word search while you help. This could be a great bedtime activity in the tent before lights-out.

1. Have each kiddo work on their own copy of the free printable camping crossword while you help. This could be another great bedtime activity in the tent before lights-out.
2. Use one crossword puzzle for the entire family. Let one person search at a time, passing the card around. Fill out the entire crossword puzzle as a group.
3. Have each person call out the hints and work together as a team to come up with the word.
   

Camping Maze

1. Have each kiddo use a small flashlight or laser pointer to trace the lines on the free printable camping maze. 
2. Give each kiddo a different colored highlighter and let them each take turns. When they run into a dead-end, have them pass the maze to the next person. 

Camping I Spy

1. Giving each person a card, have one person (you) call out the next item and let the kids call-out when they’ve found it. First one to get all the items wins a camping prize!
2. Have each kiddo work on their own to find all the items in the I Spy on their sheet. This fun hunting game actually helps build reading skills…
3. With each kiddo having a free printable camping I Spy, have each kiddo go on their own mission around camp to find every item on their list.
4. Giving each person a free printable camping I Spy, go on a hike together to get each kiddo a chance to fill out their entire I Spy.
5. Work as a team to find every item on the I Spy in your campsite, marking them off as a group.
6. Have each kiddo help clean-up the campsite using the I Spy as a checklist.

I love going camping with the family, but the one thing I don’t enjoy is when the kids are less than occupied. And not just occupied but whining about being bored. It’s the worst. So, when I go camping, I plan to take these games to keep the kids from reaching that stage.

I started out thinking about my father and just what we both loved and I always came back to fishing. To this day if my father can be on the boat wetting a line he finds a way to do it. So I thought why not make a 3D fishing Fathers Day card. I love how the Dad on the card is Catching a fish while wishing Happy Father’s Day!

Supplies for 3D Father’s Day Card

• Craft Scissors
• Craft/Paper Glue
• Card Stock
• Large Needle
• String

As you can see by the list of supplies for this Father’s day card Are mainly items you should have. Most of these items can be found around your house if you do any crafting.

How to Make a Free Printable 3D Fathers Day Card

This is a fun and easy Father’s Day craft that you can do with the kids. Before we get started on the Free Printable 3D Father’s Day Card make sure you have downloaded the PDF for the Father’s Day card. Click Here to download. I highly suggest that you use card stock for the printing of the card as it will hold up better and last longer. If you want to use regular paper you can but the card and 3D parts will be very floppy.

First, you will need to print out the various shapes, the front, and the back of the card from the file provided. For easy access, you can click here to download the file again if needed.

Now that the files are printed you will need to start making the card. The first step in the free printable 3D Father’s day card is to fold the outer card print-out in half so that the boat is facing up. Use the blunt end of scissors to flatten the crease. Don’t be afraid to apply some good pressure as you want a nice crease on the edge of the card.

The next step in making your free printable 3D card is to cut the inside greeting side of the card along the dotted line. Place this aside for now. 

Carefully cut out the colored fish, blue water waves, bucket, and white rectangle. Make sure you use sharp scissors as it will help our eggs to have cleaner lines.

Thread a large needle with about 6-7 inches of string. Tie a knot at one end of the string. Push the needle up through the front of the card, at the bottom of the fishing pole. Pull the thread up and then push the need back down at the top of the fishing pole. Allow some slack, as desired, for the fishing line on the pole. Secure this string with a knot at the back. 

The next step in making the free printable 3D Father’s day card is to thread the needle with another 6-7 inch length of string. Tie a knot at the end of the string. Push the needle up through the front of the card at the top of the fishing pole, just to the side of the previous knot. 

Thread the string through the “mouth” area of a fish. You choose the color of fish you want to use as there are 3 to choose from. Tie this string off and frim with scissors. Use a small bit of glue to secure all knots of string. 

Stack and glue the blue waves onto the front of the card, at the bottom, as desired, to form the water. This starts to give the card some depth for the 3D effect.

Take the Happy Father’s Day inside greeting we cut out earlier and glue it to the inside of the folded creation. 

Take the white rectangle and accordion fold it. (see drawing below) Glue one end of the accordion just under and to the right of the “Happy Fathers Day” greeting. Allow to dry 

Take the bucket and glue this to the top of the folded accordion to create the 3D pop-up effect. Now the printable 3D Father’s day card is really coming together.

Close and press the card, then re-open to separate and arrange the accordion strip. Allow to dry. 

Finally, glue the two remaining fish to the back of the card, arrange them as desired. 

Sign your 3D Father’s day card and give this to a lucky Dad, with LOVE! I love how it turned out and hope you do too. Remember as with any card make sure to at least sign your name. You can even personalize it more with a little handwritten note on the blank inside page if you want to help put a bigger smile on Dad’s face this Father’s day. I always add a something personal but I know it is not for everyone.

• Craft/Paper Glue
• Card Stock

Instructions

1. Print sheets 2 - 3 on cardstock.

10 Virtual Birthday Party Ideas

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #1 – Virtual Gaming Party

Basically, kids love playing video games and, especially with the current drive to stay indoors, the game creators have set up ways for people to “get together” and play in teams in the game environment. Most of these games don’t require a special gaming computer or anything, and most kids are familiar with them. If you ask your kiddo, I’m sure they’ll direct you on how to pull this off, but just in case, here are my tips.

What You Need to Set Up a Virtual Gaming Party

• Pick a gaming platform, be it Minecraft, Mario Kart Tour, Fortnite: Battle Royale, Stardew Valley, Sea of Thieves, Pokemon Go or so many others that allow teams of people to play together, build the world around them and just play together. 
• Be sure to pick the platform that is appropriate for the age group of kiddos you’re bringing together. Don’t make your 15-year-old play Mario Kart Tour unless it truly is their favorite game. But don’t expect everyone in your party to want their 7-year-old to be playing Fortnite: Battle Royale. Find the balance for all the kiddos. Just like you would if you were taking them all somewhere.
• Send invitations for the virtual birthday party, via email or text to schedule a time, giving each invitee a rundown of anything they’ll need to sign-in, providing a link for the app, if necessary, or specific login-instructions. Be prepared for the families that might not play this specific game regularly.

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #2 – Movie Watching Party

Got a kiddo that’s not quite ready for a video game party, but wants to “hang out” with their friends despite not being able to be in the same room? Great news, there’s a few options for watching a movie together! Not as neat as sitting in the theater, but infinitely more simple than trying to order popcorn, drinks and candy for 10 little squealing girls, this type of virtual party is one of my favorites for the little kids. 

What You Need to Set Up a Movie Watching Party

• One of the biggest streaming services, Netflix, has a “party” set-up that couldn’t be easier. You just go to the Netflix website and pick any show or Movie to watch. Then just click the red “NP” icon next to the address bar in your browser. Then choose “Start Party”, and share the party URL to invite friends. The movie will play for everyone so you’re all seeing the same thing–and you can hook up via Zoom or FaceTime to chat! But there are other services that do the same, including TwoSeven and KastApp.
• Be sure to pick an age-appropriate movie or show. The last thing you want to do is let your kiddo decide and then it upsets another mom or dad when they realize their 5-year-old is watching Deadpool. 
• Reach out and make sure each of the families you’re inviting have their own Netflix account, as that’s how they’ll login. Then, send your invitations via email or text, get set-up on the couch and start watching!

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #3 – Drive-By Parade Party

If you have a local group of friends, you can invite them to do a drive-by parade for your kiddo’s birthday. Not only will your kiddo be ecstatic, imagine how excited the other kids will be to decorate their car?! Isn’t it every kid’s dream to be in a parade?! 

What You Need to Set Up a Drive-By Parade Party

• Start by identifying a place that all of your party attendees can meet-up (staying in their cars) like at the parking lot of the grocery store down the street or the corner of the intersection a block away. Make sure your invitations note that this is where the parade will start and at what time. 
• Tell your invitees exactly what time your own kiddo will be in the yard to see the parade, so you are all on the same page.
• Send out drive-by invitations and make sure to let them know if you have a theme in mind or any kind of special requests for music to play or types of decoration ideas you recommend. 

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #4 – Virtual Crafting Party

If your kiddo loves to craft as mine do, then this kind of party might be the most fun you can have for arty-type kiddo. This kind of guided craft party is a lot of fun in person and became very popular recently. But going virtual, it’s got a whole new twist. The kids can make in their own craft in their own home, with a guide to help them get their project done picture perfect!

What You Need to Set Up a Virtual Crafting Party

• Identify a craft you think your party-goers will enjoy and be able to accomplish. Meaning, age-appropriate crafts that they are capable of, but also that they’ll have a good time doing–just because 10-year-old boys CAN make a birdhouse doesn’t mean that they would love that. Maybe pick something like a pirate ship or car. Something cool.
• You can either prepare a craft supply package for each kiddo or you can pick a pre-packaged craft that you can send to everyone in advance. Like Sand Art or Window Art. If you want to make your own craft kit, be sure to include everything they might need–don’t assume every family has paints or glue. 
• Be sure to note on your virtual craft party invitations the login instructions for Zoom or whatever medium you’re going to use to get the kids together.

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #5 – Virtual Board Game Party

If you have kids that are a little more into board games and a little less into crafting, you can get the kids playing a classic board game together–only virtually! No, it’s not like actually sitting down and playing Clue in the living room with popcorn and sodas, but it can be pretty close to just that. And, with older kiddos, they’re going to love the friendly competition.

What You Need to Set Up a Virtual Board Game Party

• One of the most low-tech installs, you just pick which board game from Pogo then get that on the invitations, along with a time to login and the username you plan to use so all the kids can hook-up. 
• Once the kids are all in contact with each other, if they seem to start getting bored with one board game (pun intended), then just move to the next–just like you would with a real board game party.
• Keep in mind that this is best done for older kiddos who understand how board games work. Younger kids are going to lose interest and not feel the need to keep playing. 

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #6 – Virtual Lego Party

For kiddos who really love playing with Legos, these kinds of virtual parties are just about the best idea ever. Not only will they get to play Legos with their friends, they’ll actually learn how to make something and maybe expand some of their building-skills. Great for a large party, too, with lots of varying skill sets, because it’s a guided party and the kids will have help to create.

What You Need to Set Up a Virtual Lego Party

• First, you’ll want to find a party guide for your Lego Party like Snapology. Like with any party, you’ll want to book your party then send out your invitations. This is probably the simplest type of party to set up! Just make sure everyone has some Legos and you’re good to go!

Virtual Birthday Party Idea #7 – Virtual Workout Party

This is kind of a cross between a PE class and a jump party–only without being in the PE class or in the trampoline park. Virtual Birthday Party Idea #10 – Virtual Dance Party

All kids love to dance. Love love love. Literally, I have never found a kid that hates dancing. So, make it easy for them to dance together–even if they’re not in the same room! 

What You Need to Set Up a Virtual Dance Party

• Send out invitations with a time and login instructions for a Zoom meeting.
• Jump on Zoom, pick a song and start dancing. You can set up a playlist on Pandora or pick your favorite genre on Slacker. 
• Add a fun “award” system for the kids to give each other kudos for “best moves” or “best boogie”.

Basically, though, any way you set up a virtual birthday party, it’s going to be so much better than just having a sad-sack of a kiddo on their birthday because they can’t be with their friends. So, think through what they’re going to enjoy the most and make a memorable experience out of a unique time in their life.

As Easter is approaching I wanted to do something with our family that was a little different than the standard egg hunt but is still fun. Of course, you can always default to playing video games, but our kids get enough screen time already. Plus we love playing games, from board games to card games to silly games, if its a game our family loves it. As Easter approaches, I was like how can we have some fun as a family and play an Easter-themed game for all ages. I was like well let me sharpen up my graphic skills and make us an Easter bingo. I made a set of free printable Easter bingo cards and want to share them with you! Bingo is a game whether you are young or old you can enjoy it. Who doesn’t love the anticipation waiting for your last spot being called so you can then shout “Bingo”.

Free Printable Easter Bingo Cards

I suggest you print one set and play it. The best part is if it gets worn out or colored on you just print a new set. This is a great game to play at kids Easter parties as well. I have some suggestions for you as to what to give the winner. You can go with the obvious and offer up some candy or a sweet treat to the winner, but I decided to mix it up and offered up an Easter Egg to the winner of the game. The fun part was they didn’t know it but some of the eggs I put money in them. Needless to say, some were hoping happy when they opened their egg and saw a dollar bill in it. You can always go to the dollar store or stop by the Target dollar bins to find prizes as well. One night we even played before dinner and the winner was able to choose what we had for dessert that night. Below you can see a picture of an example of one of the Easter bingo cards.

Instructions for the Free Printable Easter Bingo Cards

Click here and download the file for the Easter Bingo cards and print them. We suggest you print them on card stock this way the game pieces will last longer, but you can print it on regular paper as well. Once printed cut out the 8 game boards. The last page is the calling cards. Since they are pictures even the littlest ones can be the call for Easter bingo.  Cut the calling cards out and use it as the draw pile for the caller of that round of Easter bingo. Now you have the bingo cards and the calling cards but you still need one more thing. You need something to use as a marker on the bingo cards themselves. Some suggestions for markers are candy-like jelly beans (Don’t use anything chocolate unless you want a mess to clean up.), money like pennies or you can even use snack crackers like goldfish crackers or mini-ritz. Honestly, anything that is small to fit in the squares will work, but be warned if you use candy or snacks the kids will eat them, but really that makes it even more fun. Now you have everything ready for your Easter bingo night, lets talk about how you play.

How to Play Easter Bingo

1. Print the Cards from the File. Each player needs an Easter bingo card. If you have more than 8 people then put the on teams or just make them take turns.
2. Make sure each player has access to the markers. (Candy, pennies, goldfish, etc..)
3. One person will need to be the caller.
4. The caller will shuffle the calling cards and draw the first card.
5. Kids can use a piece of candy or other marker pieces to cover their spots.
6. The caller chooses one card from the facedown pile and describes the picture on the card. The caller may also show the card to the players.
7. Each player looks over his/her card and covers the called picture if it is on his/her card.
8. The caller will call out each card until someone has a bingo.
9. Bingo can be made by collecting 4 corners or 5 spots in a row. You can mix it up to do other ways to achieve bingo as well!
10. Have fun, play multiple times to give everyone a chance to win and even offer up special prizes for the winners.

I started brainstorming, I knew I wanted it to be an Easter card but what do I want on it. As I wanted it to be an Easter card that would get the most use by you, my readers, in addition to being a design I love and want to give. I thought about an Easter bunny but felt like that might be a little to complex to make in 3D. So, in the end, I landed on making a 3D Easter egg card to share with yall.

Supplies for Free Printable 3D Easter Card

• Craft Scissors
• Craft/Paper Glue
• Card Stock

As you can see by the list of supplies for the Easter Card you should have most of these around your house if you do much crafting at all.

How to Make a Free Printable 3D Easter Card

This is a fun and easy Easter craft that you can even do with the kids. Before we get started on the Free Printable 3D Easter Card make sure you have downloaded the PDF for the Easter card. Click Here to download. Also, make sure you have put a few sheets of cardstock in your printer. If you want to use regular paper you can but the card will be very floppy. I highly suggest you use card stock for this card.

First, you will need to print out the Egg shapes, the front and the back of the card from the file provided. For easy access, you can click here to download the file again if needed.

Now that the files are printed you will need to start making the card. The first step in the free printable 3D Easter card is to fold the front card in half, along the dotted line. You can use the flat side of a pair of scissors to make the crease sharp and smooth. Don’t be afraid to apply some good pressure as you want a nice crease on the edge of the card.

Using sharp scissors cut out each of the egg shapes. Make sure you use sharp scissors as it will help our eggs to have cleaner lines.

Glue the first one of the egg shapes flat on the card. You can use tacky glue or a glue stick. I used tacky glue to ensure the card will stay stuck together.

Fold all of the other egg cutouts in half. Make sure to crease them well. Just like on the card you can use the flat side of a pair of scissors to make the crease sharp and smooth.

The next step in making your free printable 3D Easter card is to apply glue across the egg that you glue onto the card.

Now, place two egg halves on top of the glued egg. Make sure to carefully line up the edges. Press down firmly and allow for the glue to dry.

As you continue on making your free printable 3D Easter card you will repeat the same process in applying glue on top of the edges, then place another set of eggs on top. This is building in the 3D effect for the egg.

Continue adding and gluing the egg halves until you run out. Make sure to glue the last two eggs together.

Now we need to make the inside of the free printable 3D Easter card. Cut the inside that you printed along the dotted line.

Glue the inside card to the inside of the Easter card front that you just made. Allow time for the glue to dry completely.

Now you have completed making your free printable 3D Easter card. I love how it turned out and hope you do too. Remember as with any card make sure to at least sign your name. You can even personalize it more with a little handwritten note on the blank inside page if you want. I always add a note but I know it is not for everyone. Easter Egg Cake Pops – What You’ll Need:

• liquid food coloring – whatever colors you want your eggs to be
• white sugar – about 1/4 cup per color
• small bowls and spoons – one of each per color
• white chocolate
• cake pop dough
• cake pop sticks
• cake pop stand

First, divide up your sugar into each bowl. I only used 3 colors for this tutorial, but normally I use 6. Purple, Pink, Blue, Green, Orange, and Yellow. Put ONE drop of your liquid food coloring for 1/4 cup of sugar.

Mix well until all your sugar is colored and no lumps of food coloring remain. Set aside. You might have to stir these again before decorating to break up the sugar.

Form your cake pop dough into an egg.

Dip your stick into the melted white chocolate and place it into the wide end of the egg. Let that chocolate harden.

Dip your entire cake pop egg into the white chocolate and tap off any excess chocolate.

Moving quickly, design your Easter eggs. Using your spoon, sprinkle on your colored sugar. You can do stripes, solid colors, or even just sprinkle on in random places. Place in cake pop stand and let dry.

Each egg is going to be so unique, and it’s near impossible to mess these up. Not to mention you didn’t have to spend a fortune buying sprinkles in every color! Hope you all have a Hoppy Easter!

Easter Bunny Cookies – What You’ll Need:

• egg shaped cookie cutter (mine is from the 101 Wilton Cookie Cutter Set)
• 3 – #2 tip for purple and white icings
• 2 – #1 tip for black and pink icings
• 5 pastry bags and couplers
• Wilton purple, black and pink gel food coloring
• paint brush
• CK Rainbow Disco Dust
• white sanding sugar

Using your favorite cookie recipe, bake egg-shaped cookies using an egg cutter.

Once the cookies are baked and cooled, prepare the icing. I love Sweetopia’s. Note that 1 batch of icing covers about 3-4 batches of my cookie recipe. The icing recipe can be halved or even quartered depending on your needs.

Seperate the icing, delegating 3 larger portions of icing for light purple, dark purple and white then a much smaller portion for each the black and pink. You’ll have 5 separate icings here: light purple, dark purple, white, pink and black.

Color the icing, and thin the purples and white to 20 second icing, as explained by Sweetsugarbelle.

Take one shade of purple icing then outline and fill in the egg shape.

While still wet, dip a brush into the Disco Dust and tap the brush over the cookie so the glitter falls evenly. I love the rainbow dust because it can be used on all colors of icing to make it look glittery, rather than investing in each individual colored glitter.

Allow the glittered base to dry and then layer on the ears in the same shade of purple.

While still wet, pipe the white inner ear details over the purple ears.

Using the black icing, pipe on the eyes, nose and mouth. I love adding the eyelashes!

Dab some pink icing on the cheeks then pipe the whiskers on top in black.

Pipe the tail in white then sprinkle white sanding sugar on the tail while wet. Discard excess onto a sheet of paper or coffee filter so that it can be reused later.

Ingredients for St Patrick’s Day Cake Pops – Chocolate Gold Coins!

• A Cake – made from scratch or via Cake Mix
• Frosting – made from scratch or canned (any brand but prefer wilton)
• Candy Melts
• Silicone Lollipop Mold
• Treat Sticks
• Foil Candy Wrappers
• Wax Paper
• A Baking Sheet

St Patrick’s Day Cake Pops – Chocolate Gold Coins!

STEP ONE: Prepare Your Cake

If you know anything about me, you know that I like to make things as easy as possible for myself.  If you want to make a cake from scratch for these pops, go for it!  If not, there is absolutely no shame in using cake mix, because I have found both can end up with the same great St Patrick’s Day cake pops no matter which one you use.

If you are making your cake with the use of cake mix, prepare as instructed on the box. Let your cake cool completely.

STEP TWO: Cake Dough

Crumble your cake, adding small amounts of frosting (again, you can use canned frosting or make your own from scratch) and kneading it until it becomes a playdough-like consistency.

STEP THREE in making St Patrick’s Day Cake Pops – Chocolate Gold Coins: The Lollipop Mold

Once you have your cake dough, form the dough into the silicone lollipop molds and insert your treat stick.  Place the molds into the freezer to set and take shape. 

These molds can be easily found at a variety of locations including arts and crafts stores (i.e., Michaels), candy or bulk stores, or online (i.e., Amazon, Etsy, etc.).  

Unlike with regular cake pops, by forming the pops into these molds, you do not have to deal with the rolling process or with the stress of your cake dough falling off your treat stick. Also, the molds are the same size and thickness of a regular chocolate coin!

STEP FOUR: The Chocolate/Candy Coating

I usually leave my pops in the freezer for an hour or two until the pops have formed and hold their shape.  You will know they are ready as they will pop right out of the silicone mold (in one piece). Melt your candy melts in the microwave, at slow intervals, until smooth.  Depending on the quality of candy melts, you may need to thin out your chocolate, so it isn’t too thick (and pulls your cake dough off its stick).  The best way to thin out your chocolate/candy melts – if need be – is with the use of paramount crystals (available at most baking supply stores). 

Once your candy coating is melted, transfer the melted candy into a long narrow cup for dipping.  This will ensure that you get a good dip and cover the entire pop.

Dip your pop into the coating and set off to dry.  Note: If you pop is too cold or frozen when it comes out of the freezer, let it come to room temperature before dipping.  If you dip the cold cake pop into the warm melted candy, it will crack with the temperature differences upon drying.

STEP FIVE: A Coin Imprint (optional)

Now you can stop there at Step Four… wrap your pop in foil… maybe add a St. Patrick’s Day sticker and still have a perfectly cute treat…. Oooor you can step it up a notch by adding a coin imprint.  

I found a bag of these coins at my local dollar store with the image of a shamrock on it that will be perfect for St Patrick’s Day Cake Pops – Chocolate Gold Coins.  Using a baking sheet and wax paper, I dolloped a small amount of chocolate/candy melts onto the pan and pressed one of the plastic coins into it – make sure you do not push all the down/through but ensure that the full surface of the coins is covered in chocolate. 

I placed the pan in the freezer for a few minutes to harden. 

The plastic coin removes easily to reveal an imprint of the shamrock.  Now when I first tried this, I totally forgot about the laws of reflection and tried using a plastic dollar sign coin.  All my images came out inverted with a backward symbol.   I guess you can say that I really “lucked” out when I found these shamrock coins.

You can prep these chocolate imprints before you dip your cake pops.  

After your cake pops dry, just add a bit more chocolate/candy melts and attach the chocolate/candy imprints.

STEP SIX: The Gold Wrapping

What would a chocolate coin be without its wrapping?  

After you’ve finished decorating your St Patrick’s Day Cake Pops – Chocolate Gold Coins (again, you can leave it plain, add an imprint, etc.), you will be ready to wrap your creation.  These foil wrappers are extremely thin, so they pick up the imprints quite nicely.  They can also be a little tricky to work with, but practice makes perfect.  Smooth the foil wrapper onto the pop, covering the full surface – front to back.

1. Bake your Cake per mix instructions and let cool.

6. Melt your candy melts in the microwave ( I use a mug)
7. Dip your pop into the candy coating and set off to dry.

9. Then press one of the plastic coins into it.
10. Place in the freezer for a few minutes to harden
11. Add a pea-size melted candy to the pop and attach the chocolate/candy imprints.
12. Smooth the Gold foil wrapper onto the pop, covering the full surface – front to back.
13. Enjoy you Cold Coin Cake Pops.

You do not have to do the chocolate coin imprint, you could skip that part and have a plain Gold cake pop.

One recipe frequently associated with St. Patrick’s Day is Grasshopper Pie.  Grasshopper pie is historically a no-bake dessert with a chocolate cookie crumb base and a crème de menthe filling.  It’s called grasshopper pie because of its bright green (mint) color.  Through the years, grasshopper pie has been reinvented into cheesecakes, brownies and a variety of new creations.  She thought I’d make this recipe and put a new spin on it by turning it into a St Patrick’s Day Cake Balls – Pot Of Gold!  

Ingredients for St Patrick’s Day Cake Balls – Pot Of Gold!

Mint Cheesecake – filling only

• Cream Cheese
• Sugar
• Eggs
• Mint Extract
• Green Food Colouring

Chocolate Brownies

• Chocolate Brownies Mix
• Eggs
• Water/Milk
• Oil
• Silicone Baby Food Storage Tray
• Black Candy Melts
• Gold Coin Sequin Sprinkles
• Black Licorice Strings

St Patrick’s Day Cake Balls – Pot Of Gold!

STEP ONE: Prepare Your Cheesecake Filling

I prepared my mint cheesecake courtesy of a recipe that I found on Kraft, however, any baked cheesecake recipe will do – the key is to add a teaspoon of mint extract and 2 or 3 drops of green food coloring to get that minty green, grasshopper look, and taste.  I usually use a mixer to smooth my cream cheese first – Note: the cream cheese should be at room temperature – and then add the rest of my ingredients (sugar, then eggs, extract and coloring).  Since I’m only using the filling for this cake bite, you can omit the crumb base instructions and add the mixture directly into a spring foam or regular baking pan (the cheesecake will be destroyed/repurposed so if the cooking vessel is well spraying with baking spray, it does not matter what you use).  Bake the cheesecake as instructed and leave to cool. This will serve are a filling for the St. Patrick’s Day cake balls.

STEP TWO: Prepare Your Brownies

In order to save time, I used a packaged brownie mix to make my brownies (you can, of course, make them from scratch if you wish).  Prepare the brownies according to the box, bake and leave to cool.

When cooled, crumble the brownie and with your hands, gathering the crumble and roll into small balls (approximately 1 teaspoon).  Make a few brownie balls and set aside.

STEP THREE: Creating Your Chocolate Shell

I found these Kushies silicone trays at a local store, used for baby food storage but the shape of the pods perfectly emulates the shape of a pot of gold.  Alternatively, you can order similar molds online. I found this Silicone Baby Food Storage Tray on Amazon that would work great for the molds. This way you can order the molds without leaving your house and have it delivered to your door.

Melt your candy melts in the microwave for short intervals until smooth. 

Spoon or pipe the melted candy into the silicone tray making sure to cover the entire pod, including and especially the sides.  Place in the freezer to harden for about 3 to 5 minutes.  Repeat this step so that you will have a substantial layer of chocolate covering the pod.  

Repeat, as needed.  The purpose of this repetition is to ensure that the pod is well coated so that when you finally push out your cake bite, it will not crack.  No more than 3 coats should suffice – remember, you’ll need room for that delicious grasshopper filling.

STEP FOUR: The Grasshopper Effect for the St Patricks Day Cake Balls

Now is when this becomes an Irish delight.  Take your mint cheesecake filling and spoon or pipe a small amount into the chocolate pod shell.  Then take one of your browning balls from Step Two and push it into the middle of the filling so there is cheesecake filling all around the bottom of the brownie ball. 

The next step in making the St. Patrick’s day cake balls, top the brownie ball and the rest of the pod with cheesecake leaving room for the last finishing layer of melted candy melts. 

Now that the cheesecake Is covering the cake ball you need to do the finishing layer of the melted candy melts. Once done please leave in the freezer for 15 minutes to solidify and making them easier to remove. If you try to remove the St. Patrick’s Day cake balls – pot of gold too soon you will have a cracked pot of Gold so don’t rush this step.

STEP FIVE: The Removal of the Cauldron

Once hardened, remove the (now) cake bite/ball from the silicone tray.  A good trick is to first pull/stretch and release the sides before pushing out the bite, this will make removal easier.

What I like most about using these silicone-based molds is the texture of the cake bite when it is removed – it has a “cauldron-like” appears and because the bottom of the mold is slightly indented, the cake bites stand upright on their own (no need to add a flat base to steady it).

STEP SIX: The Gold Effect

Take your cake bite and dip the top of it into your melted candy, making sure the entire top portion is covered. The melted candy will act as a glue and secure the sprinkles to the cake bite.

Open and place your gold coin sprinkles in a small bowl. Then dredge the freshly dipped cauldron into the coin sprinkles. 

Once covered in sprinkles, you can embellish by adding some licorice string (affixing with melted candy on the sides) to create a handle and a cute fondant 4-leaf clover to amp up the St. Patty’s Day feel.

I am actually going to make some of these and plan to take them to my kid’s school for St. Patrick’s day so their whole class can enjoy a fun treat.

What better way than to celebrate St Patrick's Day but with a Pot of Gold that you can eat! These St Patricks Day Cake Balls are delicious with a brownie center surrounded by mint cheesecake and chocolate!

Ingredients

• Cream Cheese for the Cheesecake filling
• Sugar for the Cheesecake filling
• Eggs for the Cheesecake filling
• Mint Extract for the Cheesecake filling
• Green Food Colouring for the Cheesecake filling
• Chocolate Brownies Mix
• Eggs for the Brownie Mix
• Water/Milk for the Brownie Mix
• Oil for the Brownie Mix
• Silicone Baby Food Storage Tray
• Black Candy Melts
• Gold Coin Sequin Sprinkles
• Black Licorice Strings

Instructions

1. Make Mint Cheesecake (Any Cheesecake recipe will do just add 2-3 teaspoons of mint extract.)
2. Make Brownie Mix according to package or homemade recipe.
3. Crumble the brownie and roll into small balls about teaspoon size.
4. Melt chocolate until smooth
5. Coat (Baby Food Forms) 3 Timese with Melted Chocolate. (Set in Freezer for 3 minutes between Applications)
6. Spoon in small amount of mint cheesecake.
7. Place earlier made brownie ball into the cheesecake
8. Cover brownie ball with cheesecake
9. Seal with a layer of melted chocolate
10. Let freeze for 15 minutes until hardened.
11. Remove Cake ball Cauldron from the form.
12. Dip top of Cauldron in Melted Chocolate. (This will act as glue for the gold coin sprinkles.)
13. Dip top in Gold coin sprinkles.
14. Attach black licorice with melted chocolate.
15. Enjoy your Pot of Gold - St Patricks Day Cake Ball!

First Birthday Party Games For Kids

Ring Toss: Babies and toddlers love playing with the classic stacking rings game. Why not elevate that to a fun ring toss game. Make large rings out of paper or paper coated wire and create a simple cardboard or wooden stakes for them to be tossed over. This is fun and simple for any age.

Bubble Station: Everyone loves bubbles. Invest in large quantities of bubble mix and a few of the larger wands and let kids wander around making bubbles.

Finger Paints: Print out some fun birthday themed pictures and set up a station with smocks and finger paints. Not only do kids love getting their hands dirty on purpose, but you’ll have some great memories to send home with kids.

Ball Pit: Set up a large plastic swimming pool with plastic balls to create a makeshift fun and easy ball pit for little ones to play in.

Sprinklers: If the party is in the warmer months setup sprinklers in your backyard and tell the parents to bring swim gear. Safer than a swim party for younger kids, but tons of fun.

Photo Booth: Grab fun silly hats, scarves and of course wigs or various props to create silly and fun photos with the birthday child. Dressing up the kids is always fun and this creates great memories for everyone attending. Use your home photo printer or grab a Polaroid camera for this project.

Fish Tank: Grab toy fishing poles and create a fish tank for kids to fish prizes from. This can be done in an old plastic swimming pool, a large tub or a traditional fish tank.

While trapping a leprechaun would be fun the reality is that my kids love this sweet treat. Okay, I will admit it, I love the lucky charms marshmallow treats too! I mean what is not to love, it is simple to make, only takes and a few minutes and it’s a delicious treat! Plus I can indulge with a small piece or a bigger piece but either way, I can fill my sweet tooth. Let’s get to making these treats for St. Patrick’s Day.

Ingredients for Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats:

One of the reasons that I love these Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats is that it doesn’t take a lot to make them. The problem is usually once I make a pan the kids and myself eat them up so quickly we have to make a second pan.

• ¼ cup unsalted or salted butter
• 4 cups plain marshmallows
• 5 cups Lucky Charms cereal
• 8×8 baking pan

Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats:

Before we get started, know that if you want to turn these into green treat squares for a St. Patrick’s day treat, simply add a few drops of green food coloring in with the marshmallow melted mixture before stirring in the cereal. Let’s get started on the lucky charms marshmallow treats recipe.

Spray an 8’ x 8” baking pan well with non-stick cooking spray. Don’t skip this step or you will be scraping out the stuck on lucky charms marshmallow treats.

In a large microwave-safe bowl, fully melt the butter. If you haven’t melted butter before do it in 20-second intervals so it doesn’t melt then splatter in the microwave.

Remove the melted butter from the microwave and add in marshmallows. Stir to fully coat marshmallows with butter.

Return bowl with marshmallows to the microwave and heat on high in 30-second intervals. Make sure to stir well after every 30 seconds until marshmallows have melted. For me, it took 1 minute total but each microwave is different. Make sure to stir well to mix the melted marshmallows with butter. If making this festive for St. Patrick’s day you simply add a few drops of green food coloring in with the marshmallow melted mixture and stir to the desired color.

Pour in the first cup or so of lucky charms cereal with the butter and marshmallow mixture. Make sure to add in the Luck Charms about a cup and a half at a time so it all gets coated. Stirring well with each addition.

Once you have added in all 5 cups of the lucky charms make sure it is stirred well as you want to have most of the cereal coated with the marshmallow and butter mixture.

Press firmly into greased pan. I found it easiest to grease my hands by just spraying them with the non-stick spray for this step so you don’t have a sticky mess on your hands. Place in refrigerator or on the counter for at least one or two hours before slicing and serving.

Now you just need to cut and serve the delicious Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats. I surprised mine with this treat for St. Patricks day in there lunch bags. needless to say, they were thrilled and it didn’t cost me a pot of gold! Storing these treats on the counter or in the fridge is acceptable just make sure it is in a sealed container, luckily my baking pans come with lids to make this easy for me.

The best part about the pineapple coconut muffin recipe is that they are easy to make and they are easy to store as well. Sometimes I even make a few batches and store them in the freezer then just thaw them out when we are ready to eat them.

Ingredients for Pineapple Coconut Muffins:

One of the reasons that I love these muffins is that it doesn’t take a lot to make them. If you do much baking at all you probably have everything but the coconut and pineapple on hand.

• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup & 1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut (separated)
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1 cup pineapple (bite-sized pieces, drain juice from can)

Pineapple Coconut Muffins:

These muffins are really easy to make and take just minutes to prepare and only twenty minutes to cook. No mixer required – just two bowls, a whisk, and a spoon. This recipe makes 12 muffins. Everytime I get the ingredients out to make these now my kids are anxiously waiting to get to eat one shortly after I pull them from the oven.

The first step in making the pineapple coconut muffins are to prepare your muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray. Then preheat oven to 350F.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, 1 cup of coconut, and sugar. Stir to mix well.

In a medium bowl, whisk 3 eggs with a fork. Make sure yokes are fully beaten.

Add milk to the egg mixture and whisk until fully combined.

Pour egg & milk mixture into dry ingredients and stir until well mixed.

Stir in pineapple into the wet and dry mixture. Remember you are more so folding in the pineapple as you don’t need to over mix this part. As over mixing can have your Pineapple coconut muffins come out dense.

Pour your pineapple coconut muffin mixture evenly into 12 muffin tins. I used two muffin pans as mine only holds 6.

To ensure that coconut flavor isn’t overpowered by the pineapple I sprinkle the other 1/2 cup coconut evenly over the top of each unbaked muffin. Then Bake the pineapple coconut muffins for 20 minutes or until done.

Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes then remove from tin to finish cooling on a cooling rack. Now it is time to enjoy one, or two of your freshly baked muffins. I know I always at least eat one even before they fully cool because they are so good.

Store the pineapple coconut muffins in a sealed container in the fridge to ensure maximum freshness. You can even use a Ziploc bag if you like to store them in. I know in my house they are only stored for 2-3 days because any longer than that and the muffins are gone.

We’re steadily working our way toward Valentine’s so of course, and I wanted to surprise my family with a treat. I wanted to make sure it tasted good first as we all have had those recipes that look great but don’t turn out so good. So I decided I needed to make Heart-Shaped Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast Recipe with Strawberry Sauce in advance to try out the recipe I plan to make for Valentine’s breakfast.

How could I pull this off so they have no idea what I’m planning? I decided to make it while they were at school, I was able to get rid of all of the evidence before they got home and keep them none-the-wiser. Now if I can just keep the secret for a little longer, I’ll be ready with a fun surprise Valentine’s Day breakfast the kids will love!

These easy heart-shaped cream cheese stuffed french toast with strawberry sauce are so rich and tasty, I can’t wait to serve them to the family Valentines Day morning. And the best part is, as decadent as they sound, this stuffed french toast recipe is made as healthy as you can make french toast.

There’s no added sugar, they’re packed with protein (3 eggs and a whole brick of cream cheese!) and they’re made of wheat bread. So, if you’re ready to make the most fun stuffed french toast for Valentines, let’s get cookin’!

Ingredients for Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast Recipe with Strawberry Sauce

Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast

• 3 eggs
• 4 teaspoons of water (can use milk)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 8oz block cream cheese
• 12 pieces of whole wheat bread
• 1-2 teaspoons butter
• Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Strawberry Sauce

• 1 pint of frozen strawberries
• ⅓ Cup white sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heart-Shaped Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast Recipe with Strawberry Sauce

Crack the 3 eggs into a shallow bowl.

Add water and vanilla. Beat with a fork until well combined and set aside.

Grab a few slices of wheat bread for your heart-shaped cream cheese stuffed french toast with strawberry sauce. Lay down one slice of bread on a plate. Add 1-2 tablespoons cream cheese to the middle of the slice. (Estimate how much area you need to spread it on by holding the cookie cutter over it.)

Top with another slice of bread. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to press into the middle of the “sandwich”.

Remove crusts and discard them or you can have a snack while you prepare the stuffed French toast.

Heat butter in a small pan over medium heat until fully melted.

Then dip one side of a heart in the egg mixture then flip over and dip the other side.

Allow excess to drip off then place into the pan a few at a time. Allow to cook for 1-2 minutes until browned.

Flip over and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until browned. Add more butter to the pan as needed between cooking if needed for the heart-shaped cream cheese stuffed french toast recipe with strawberry sauce.

Now your heart-shaped french toast is done and ready to eat if you don’t want the strawberry sauce. If you want it with strawberry sauce keep reading.

To make the strawberry sauce for the stuffed french toast rinse off the strawberries and use a paring knife to cut off stems. Since they’re frozen, it’s more of a peeling motion. Then add then to the saucepan

Add the white sugar and vanilla to the saucepan. Then cook them all over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

Once strawberries are soft, use a masher to mash them.

Use an immersion blender to smooth out the sauce. Once lumps are out then set aside to cool or serve warm.

Now you’re ready to Serve heart-shaped cream cheese stuffed french toast with strawberry sauce.

Ideas for How to Serve Stuffed French Toast Hearts

So, one of the things that’s important to me is how food is presented. I mean, if it’s not appetizing to look at, why in the world would the kids be willing to put it in their mouths?! I am kind of the same way. As a result, I do some overthinking sometimes on how to present food, whether it be for a party, for guests or, as in this case, a new breakfast recipe the kids have never tried before.

The goal is, in this instance, to make a healthy french toast recipe into an appetizing-for-kids french toast recipe. So, I’ve come up with some ideas that I plan to implement to make sure they just can’t resist.

Some ways I plan to serve my heart-shaped cream cheese stuffed french toast with strawberry sauce:

• Drizzle with strawberry sauce before serving. Because the exterior of french toast is not super-duper appealing on its own, I mean, it’s brown bread; I feel like the pop of color from the strawberry sauce is a requirement, even before the kids walk-up to the table. Just a little pop of pink drizzled over the top, dripping off the side, that will be the money.
• Add a dash of powdered sugar. Another pop of color that french toast desperately needs is that sprinkle of white across the top. I firmly believe that a light dusting is absolutely critical not only for taste, but also for aesthetics. It’s going to make the french toast look more textured and less like a piece of bread. And don’t think for two seconds that I am somehow turning this french toast recipe unhealthy by putting a LIGHT dusting over it. An itty bitty bit of powdered sugar is a-ok, in most situations. Just make sure you apply the powdered sugar or instead of a light dusting it might look like a snowstorm hit!
• Don’t load-up the plate. Kids get easily overwhelmed–heck, I get easily overwhelmed. So, if you load up each of their plates with the stuffed french toast, bacon, scrambled eggs and sliced strawberries, well, they’re going to crumble under the weight. So, leave off all the other stuff. Serve it family-style and let the kids grab it themselves. Not only does that give them some control and therefore encourage them to own their food choices, but the fact that they can focus on the french toast will allow them to eat just it then decide if they want something else as well.

I think there are probably other things I could do to make this easy french toast with cream cheese more “fun”, but really, I don’t think it takes a whole lot. You just have to stop and think about it, as can always add more fruit or a little bit of whipped cream or even chocolate chips but remember you don’t want to turn this breakfast into a dessert…. or do you ;).

For Valentine’s parties, whether they’re for the kids’ school party or something at home, I love to make a couple of treat options in advance. This way I make sure I have everything I need and that the recipes work before zero-hour. This year, I decided to make one of my favorite recipes of all time, fudge.

If you’ve never had homemade fudge, you’re really missing out. It’s so creamy and decadent, the reward of cooking it up vs. grabbing some at the store is really worth it. Because the experience is definitely unique and so much more fun than a store-bought dry square of sugar!

And this fudge works so well, you can easily double the recipe–or even quadruple it so that you get a ton of homemade fudge to serve the whole company or as a gift to all your neighbors. So, let’s get to making this easy homemade fudge recipe for Valentine’s Day or just for a yummy treat for the family!

INGREDIENTS TO MAKE EASY HOMEMADE FUDGE

• 2 cups white chocolate chips
• 1 cup pink candy melts 
• ½ cup mini marshmallows
• 1 can sweetened condensed milk
• ½ cup flour
• ⅓ cup white chocolate chips (for drizzle)
• Sprinkles – I went with little pink and red heart sprinkles because why not?!

HOW TO MAKE EASY HOMEMADE FUDGE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

Combine white chips, candy melts, mini marshmallows, and sweetened condensed milk in a large pot over medium-low heat. Stir frequently to ensure it doesn’t burn.

Fully Melt the ingredients in the pan. Continuous heating of about 10 minutes while stirring frequently should completely melt on the ingredients for the easy homemade fudge recipe for Valentine’s day. 

Once smooth and blended, mix in flour thoroughly. Remove from heat and pour into a lined 8×8 or 9×9 inch square pan. 

Add sprinkles on top of this easy homemade fudge in the square pan. You can add as many or as few of sprinkles as you would like.

Melt ⅓ cup white chocolate chips in the microwave for 45-60 seconds (or a little more if needed, checking every 15 seconds) until melted. Pour into a zip-top bag, cut off the tip, and drizzle all over your fudge. 

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, then cut into small squares and serve as desired.

Tips to Fix Your Easy Homemade Fudge

I know that sometimes fudge is a tricky recipe to make. I have totally been there, spoon in hand, wondering where I went wrong. But it doesn’t have to be one of those situations where you have to toss out the bathwater with the baby–or in this case, the yummy with the homemade fudge. It’s actually kind of simple to fix your fudge in most cases if it doesn’t come outright. Rarely have I had to trash fudge and start over.

Grainy Fudge

Usually, grainy fudge is just the result of the sugar not having had a chance to dissolve correctly. So, because this recipe doesn’t call for sugar in grain form you don’t have to worry about this possibility. That’s part of the reason I love this easy homemade fudge recipe.

Hard Fudge

If you go to cut your fudge into squares and it’s hard–not creamy and soft, you’re probably feeling a bit disappointed. But this is totally fixable. Put the fudge back in the pot and add ½ cup of water or evaporated milk. Heat over low heat until everything is melted again, then repour the fudge back into the baking dish to harden once again.

Soft Fudge

Sometimes fudge just doesn’t set and you’re left with what would be a tasty spread or addition on top of a bowl of ice cream. But you don’t want that–you want the easy homemade fudge I promised you. So, here’s what you’re going to do: Just put the fudge back into the pot, heat it up again for 10 more minutes. Remove from the heat and stir it until the shine starts to fade. When the fudge mixture looks matte, pour it back into your tin and it should set right up and be firm.

Ideas on how to Serve the Easy Homemade Fudge

For the majority of homemade fudges, you’re really not planning to do much other than cut it up into squares (about 1-inch by 1-inch) and then you kind of just snag a bit of fudge whenever you want. But because you’re planning to make this fudge for Valentine’s party, well, tossing the squares off into a tin is probably isn’t the way you want to present it.

Presentation is everything when it comes to serving desserts at parties and the fact is that it’s more complicated if you’re serving to kiddos than if you’re passing fudge off as a gift to a neighbor or relatives. 

So, some ways I plan to serve my easy homemade fudge for Valentine’s Day:

• Have each square of fudge “plated” on its own piece of parchment paper or cupcake liner, so that the kids can pick them up off the dessert table without getting their fingers all over everybody else’s.
• Stacked on a three-tiered tray or cupcake tray mixed with some Valentine’s cupcakes or cookies. This way kids have easy access to the fudge and whatever other treats are placed side-by-side with them.
• Place a toothpick in the top of each square of fudge or to add some flare if you can find them, the toothpicks with the little flags. Now the kids can pick them up like fancy horderves.

I’m really loving the idea of this last presentation option, for their upcoming party. Kids love those little toothpicks with the flags and there’s no reason they can’t be trusted to have them at their very own Valentine’s party. In the end, this easy homemade fudge is delicious any way it’s presented and is perfect for a party treat. The kids are going to love it–and if you’re patient enough to deal with a little mess, you can even let them help you put sprinkles on, as well as the melted chocolate drizzle.

Cook Time 10 minutes

Additional Time 1 hour

Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

• 2 cups white chocolate chips
• 1 cup pink candy melts

I’ll be honest, after the high of Christmas and all the parties we throw/get invited to/stumble into–there’s that lull in time that just feels like a bit of a letdown. The light at the end of the tunnel? A shining red heart you just know is full of love, fun and good times.

It’s during this time, while I’m anticipating a great set of pink-filled-parties-with-hearts-and-cupids that I start making some of the yummiest treats I’ll have the privilege to snack on all year. One of my latest creations for this most loving time of year that I am going to share with you is Valentine Sugar Cookie Bars recipe.

Really very simple, this is one of those recipes that the kids can help make and it’ll still turn out not only tasty, but super pretty.  You seriously can’t mess it up. And with some simple modifications, you can turn this recipe into an allergy-friendly party treat that you can serve in any classroom party, even if there are some dietary restrictions for some of the kiddos.

What You Need to Make Valentine Sugar Cookie Bars

• To Make the Sugar Cookie Layer:
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ⅓ cup milk (add up to 2 tbsp more if mix is too dry)
• To Make the Icing Layer:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Pink gel coloring
  • Sprinkles – any will do, but I like to go with red and white or red and pink

Now, there are a lot of variations you can do, like making these easy Valentine’s Cookie Bars gluten-free or dairy-free, even. To make this recipe gluten-free, you can just replace the flour with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Baking mix in equal parts. 

And in the case that you need to make this recipe dairy-free, you can just replace the milk with coconut milk or almond milk and then replace the butter with vegan buttery sticks. Simple substitutions that will allow you to still be able to serve this awesome treat at your kiddo’s school Valentine’s party, even if there are special dietary needs in the class!

Plus, another great benefit of this recipe is that it doubles REALLY well. It’s so super basic, that by just doubling each of the ingredients and baking it in two pans, you can make twice as many sugar cookie bars for Valentines in the same amount of time and not be out all the extra time it would take to make extra batches of traditional cookies.

How to Make Valentine Sugar Cookie Bars

The first step in Valentine Sugar cookie bar recipe is to cream together sugars, butter, and egg. 

Gradually beat in flour and baking soda, followed by milk. Beat until your texture is thick and crumbly, then stir by hand a few times until it comes together like dough. If you want to make your cookie bars super more festive, you can throw some of the sprinkles into the mix–about 4 tablespoons mixed thoroughly though the cookie dough would be really adorable.

Line an 8×8 inch pan with parchment paper and spray a light coating of nonstick oil, then press your cookie bar batter into it. Smooth it down with your fingers, using another sheet of parchment paper. 

Bake the cookie bars at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the edges begin to turn golden brown. 

Set aside to cool completely. Once cookie bars are completely cooled, make the icing.

Beat together butter, powdered sugar, milk, and pink gel for color until smooth and fluffy. 

Generously spread the icing out over your cookie bars. Make sure you spread the icing all the way to the edges.

Now that your Sugar Cookie is baked and frosted the last step is to then top with sprinkles.

Cut cookie bars into squares, and serve. You can also refrigerate for firmer/easier to cut icing.

Ideas for How to Serve Valentine Sugar Cookie Bars

Now, I know that the main idea here is the serve-up your Valentine Sugar Cookie Bars straight from the pan to your mouth–they’re really that good, so you can certainly do that. 

But, if you’ve got a little party you’re headed to and that’s what these Valentines Sugar Cookie Bars are being made for, well, do not immediately grab them and start snacking.

The next step is to think about presentation, because, once your cookie bars are made, you are going to want to set them out to be as pretty as the cookie bars deserve. 

So, some ways I plan to serve my yummy cookie bars for Valentines:

• Put a little bit of red or pink icing into a zipper baggie, then trim off the corner. Repeat enough times for each kiddo in the class to have a zipper baggie of icing of their own. Hand them a cookie bar on a plate and their little zipper baggie and let them decorate to their heart’s content while they’re snacking.
• Make each cookie bar “plated” on it’s own piece of parchment paper or cupcake liner, so that the kids can pick them up off the Valentines dessert table without getting their fingers all over everybody else’s.
• Stacked on a farmhouse-style tiered tray or cupcake tiered tray, so that you have easy access to all of the cookie bars at basically the same time when they’re being swarmed by little kiddos.
• Cut into very small squares, almost cubes, and then each little square poked with a toothpick and served like cheese-on-toothpicks.

This last idea is actually what I plan to do this year for my youngest’s class party because that way, each kid is not getting a giant piece of cookie bar, a cupcake from the other mom and an I chews you cookie, too. I mean, if you break it up into little bites, not only is that fun for the kids, but then they’re not getting a ton of sugar–they can have little bites! And, if you do that, then it makes your cookie bars go a little further and the kids feel like they’re getting a lot more treats, even if they’re really only getting a couple of bites of what would have been a bigger cookie square.

All around, this is a great Valentine’s recipe alternative to basic cookies for a party. Whether it’s for kids or adults, they’re sure to love these easy cookie bars.

You’ve Been Boo’d Tags:

Booing your friends and neighbors is easy to do! Simply grab a Halloween treat bag and fill it with a few Halloween treats like candies, Halloween stickers, Halloween coloring books, little Halloween party favors, etc. A great place to start is at the dollar store to see what little Halloween treats & favors they have there. If the friends you are booing have food allergies, it may be best if you go with stickers or other little Halloween favors. You want to make sure it’s something they’ll enjoy. For example, I love raisins but if I drop a box of raisins on a neighbors doorstep, they may want to egg my house. Ha! Not everyone gets as excited about raisins as I do. *Side note: If you get raisins for Halloween, feel free to send them my way. Ha!

Trick or Treat, Pamper Your Feet!

Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the six of us loaded up the SUV and went on a little road trip to Prince Albert National Park. This was the first time I’ve ever traveled that far north in Saskatchewan. I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of activities during the cooler fall season but we were all pleasantly surprised with how much there was to do. Sure, we couldn’t lounge on the beach and go swimming in the lake but we could do activities like hiking, biking, guided tours, dog carting and more. Plus – it was much quieter there this time of year so we could pretty much do everything on our to-do list without worrying about reservations.

Fall Fun in Prince Albert National Park:

Before we hop into all the activities, here’s a little video highlighting the weekend in Prince Albert National Park.

Hiking & Guided Tours:

There are loads of hiking trails in the area so you can choose any one of them and set off on your own adventure. We chose to do two guided tours and I’m so glad we did! I preferred the guided tours because none of us really knew much about the area, the wildlife, etc. It was nice to get the inside scoop on the area, the nature around us, the wildlife in the area, and the history. With those guided tours, we were able to fully appreciate everything around us. We learned about the trees and plants around us, heard interesting information about the history of the area, heard first-hand stories from people who live in and around the park and more. It kind of felt like our own personal school field trip! I love that it was so educational for both the kids and adults.

Our first hike was through Boundary Bog with Brad of Sundogs Excursions. You seriously won’t believe how quiet it is out there – not a peep to be heard except maybe some wind through the trees and a few birds chirping. The boys had an opportunity to touch, taste (yes, with the guide he could let us know which plants the boys could safely taste) and learn about their surroundings. It was incredibly interesting and so much nicer than if we had just walked the trail on our own and not known what to look for or what everything was. We ended this hike at a beautiful area by the take for a hotdog cookout. The boys enjoyed carving their own hot dog roasting sticks and learning how to properly build a fire.

The second guided tour was with Indigenous leaders Carol & Joseph.  They took us off the main trails and right into the forest to teach us survival training like what types of plants could be eaten, how people use natural methods for healing wounds, fuelling their bodies and building shelters and even how to get your shoes out of sinking mud. Ha! We can thank Ryan for that one after he temporarily lost both shoes in some sinking mud. Ha! We all had a good laugh about that one. We learned how to identify different animal tracks and, although we didn’t see any bears, we saw evidence that they had been around the area not too long before we had. The boys had a blast with this because we really had to use our hiking skills to get up the sides of hills and around narrow paths to arrive at our final destination.

Nature Centre:

Prince Albert National Park has a newly renovated nature centre and it’s full of lots of activities and information that all ages would find interesting. My son loved playing with the many puppets while the older boys enjoyed reading interesting facts about animals in the area. My son was given a little activity book to complete and bring back the next day and first thing the next morning he was eager to get back and hand in his completed book. He loved it and he got a cute little Prince Albert National Park dog tag that he still proudly wears to school each day.

Dog Carting:

When I first tell people we went dog carting, they wonder what I’m talking about. The best way to explain it is that it’s like dog sledding only this is done in a cart with wheels instead of on a sled. Since there was no snow on our trip, we got to experience dog carting. We all really loved the dogs. The dogs were all so happy and eager to get out there and pull the cart around. The dogs are all so friendly too! Ryan was ready to send us home on our own and just live out at Sundogs with Brad and all the dogs. Ha! It’s a really hands-on experience as you get to help put the harnesses on the dogs, learn about the cart and braking system, and get the dogs water and treats after their run. This was a highlight of the trip for sure and something we plan to do again each time we visit the area.

Biking:

The boys loved biking and we had the opportunity to try lots of different bikes. First up – the quadracycles! The boys loved racing in these up and down the hills in Waskesiu and around empty parking lots. These were a lot of fun and something I’d rent again for sure!

Then Ryan and I tried a dual tandem bike and it was much easier to ride than I thought it would be. Well, maybe just easier for me because I was on the back so if I felt like giving up on pedaling for a while, Ryan couldn’t tell that he was doing all the work. Ha!

Then the older boys and Ryan took out some mountain bikes and fat tire bikes to cruise the trails. My little guy is 7 so the two of us chose to stay right in town and do the bike paths around the lake plus check out the playground on the beach.

Food:

Although many of the town’s restaurants and stores were already closed for the season, there were still quite a few options for meals.

Pete’s Terrace (most people refer to this as Pizza Pete’s) has the best hamburgers! Seriously – perfectly seasoned burger patties! We went back there a few times for burgers, nachos and pizza.

Evrgreen Coffee was a great place for a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich. Added bonus: the owners’ dog was the ultimate host!

The Hawood Inn – since we were there over the Thanksgiving weekend, we had the opportunity to attend the annual Thanksgiving buffet at the Hawood Inn. It was a great selection of food and the setup in the banquet hall really made it feel like it was just a big family reunion! It was a great way to wrap up a busy fun-filled weekend.

O Christmas Tree Winter Festival (mid-December) – you can cut down your own Christmas tree and participate in activities like sleigh rides, crafts, plus a large variety of winter sports with free equipment rentals!

It was a fun-filled weekend and we created lots of new family memories together. Between the activities, the delicious food and the relaxing evenings in the resort’s outdoor hot tub, it’s a destination we’re sure to be visiting again soon!

With active boys who love the outdoors – where do you go on a family vacation? To one of the many national parks in Canada, of course! Parks Canada and Waskesiu offered to host us for a weekend and it sounded like a great vacation for us. We’re in Saskatchewan so we’re only a few hours away from Prince Albert National Park and Waskesiu.

During the spring and summer months in the national parks, you have beaches, swimming, fishing, boating and more. We wondered what sort of activities we could enjoy together during a chilly Thanksgiving weekend and the answer was: a lot! In my next post I’ll talk about all the fun activities we enjoyed in and around Prince Albert National Park but first I want to tell you about the great accommodations we had at Lost Creek Resort.

Lost Creek Resort Waskesiu:

Before I get into all the details, check out this video overview of our 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom cabin. It was the perfect size for a large family of six!

See what I mean? Perfect! We had three separate bedrooms plus a sofa bed so technically this cabin could sleep up to 8 people. With a 7 year old on a much different sleep schedule than the teens, it was nice to have a separate area for him to go to sleep while the older boys could still watch TV, play games or go outside to enjoy the hot tub.

Yes – there was a hot tub outside! Two of them actually. They are in the middle of the resort park so they are within walking distance for all guests. It was a great way to warm up and relax after a long day of hiking, biking and exploring.

Inside the cabin we had a large full kitchen with everything you need to cook like you do at home – dishes, pots, pans, utensils, even a BBQ outside. It included a full sized fridge as well to load up with groceries. Tip: If you want to load up on groceries before you get to Prince Albert National Park, stop in Prince Albert for your shopping. There is a small grocery store in Waskesiu (inside the park) but if you’re buying a lot, it’s best to stop in Prince Albert before heading up. Keep in mind – depending on the time of year you go – a lot of the local businesses in Waskesiu are closed for the season including the small grocery store.

When planning your packing list, it’s important to note that this is a cabin and not a hotel. You will be supplied things like towels, toilet paper and tissues, but you’ll need to bring your own shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, paper towel, plastic food wrap, tin foil and coffee.  There are no laundry services in the cabin area but the front desk was able to wash some pants for Ryan after he had a little sinking mud incident on a hike – my true outdoorsman. Ha! So pack extra clothes just in case.

The front desk (in a separate cabin at the front of the park) also has games you can rent out for a family fun night. It’s great way to spend some quality time together in the evenings.

Lost Creek Resort was a really quiet area. All the cabins are spread out nicely so you don’t have neighbours directly beside your windows. Unlike most hotels, you don’t have to worry about the noises in the hallways at night or the room next door having a late night party. The location was perfect – a nice quiet area nestled in the trees but still within a two minute drive to Waskesiu.

Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake:

Nanaimo bars are a favorite around the holiday party season but this cheesecake can be enjoyed all year long. Really, is it ever the wrong time for dessert? Nope! Note that this cheesecake is best when refrigerated and chilled overnight before serving so make sure you work that timing into your party plans.

Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake

This Nanaimo Cheesecake recipe takes a classic Canadian dessert and upgrades it to a delicious cheesecake!

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes

Total Time 1 hour 50 minutes

Ingredients

• Crust:
• 3 cups crushed chocolate wafer cookies (like Oreos)
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
• 1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut
• Cheesecake:
• 3 packages (250g each) cream cheese, softened
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar
• 4 large eggs
• 1/2 cup sour cream (full fat)
• 1/4 cup custard powder
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• Chocolate Ganache Topping:
• 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1/2 cup heavy cream (35%)
• 1 jar prepared chocolate frosting
• additional toasted coconut for decorating

Instructions

Crust:

1. Preheat oven to 325F.
2. Stir together the cookie crumbs, melted butter and coconut until the mixture is well combined.
3. Press this mixture into the bottom of a parchment paper lined 9" spring form baking pan (parchment lining between the crust and the bottom of the pan isn't required but it sure makes for easier removal of the cheesecake).
4. Put this in the refrigerator while you combine the cheesecake filling.

Cheesecake:

1. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition and occasionally scraping down the inside of the bowl.
3. Beat in sour cream, custard powder, vanilla and flour until smooth.
4. Pour cheesecake batter over chilled crust and smooth top.
5. Bake until the middle is set (no longer jiggling). This takes about 80-90 minutes.
6. Let cool completely on wire rack (about 1 hour).
7. Prepare ganache topping: Place chocolate in a medium bowl and set aside. In a small saucepan, heat cream over medium heat (stirring constantly) until it starts to boil slightly. Remove from heat and immediately pour over chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes then stir until completely mixed. Let this cool in the fridge for 30 minutes before pouring on top of cheesecake.
8. Cover cheesecake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours before removing from the pan. Best if left to chill in refrigerator overnight before serving.
9. Run knife around inside of pan before removing cheesecake.
10. Top with chocolate icing swirls and extra toasted coconut. To toast the coconut, I heat it in a small frying pan over medium heat (stirring constantly as it burns quickly) until it reaches the desired level of crispiness. You'll want to let the toasted coconut cool before sprinkling over the cheesecake.

Vampirina Party:

Let’s start with the invitations – Warehouse Party Supplies has a cute personalized invitation. You can personalize this with any text you’d like. Over in my article on their site, I give some creative wording examples.

Now let’s get into the food! This Bone Appetit buffet includes breakfast items – a fun idea since Vampirina’s parents operate a Bed & Breakfast for monsters.

Then of course you need a fun area to eat! This table has it all – Vampirina-themed dinnerware, spiderwebs, skeletons and lots of bats!

Next up – activities! I have a Vampirina board on Pinterest that is filled with fun vampire-themed craft ideas for kids. Also, don’t forget the photo booth area! Kids always love having a souvenir photo to take home.

Last, but not least, we have the party favors. Anything with a fun Halloween theme here would do – even Halloween colored nail polishes, glow in the dark bracelets, and other spooktacular kid-friendly treats.

For this nacho bar, I set up both a Cheesy Nachos side and a Dessert Nachos side. The Cheesy Nachos side is all the regulars like tortilla chips, tomatoes, meats, cheese, etc. The Dessert Nachos side was a sweet version with cinnamon tortillas, cookies, berries, and syrup toppings.

Nacho Bar – Setting The Scene:

You’ll want a lot of small & medium bowls for the toppings. Things like tortilla chips will need an XL bowl while things like black olives can go in a smaller dish. Make sure you set out plenty of spoons and tongs to keep fingers out of the foods and sauces. Guests will need disposable pie plates for their nachos plus plenty of napkins.

For items like meat, you may want to serve it out of a slow cooker to keep it warm.

You may want to label foods or have a menu listing the options. When it comes to nacho toppings though, I think it’s pretty easy to tell what each food is based on its appearance.

Nacho Bar Foods:

For a cheesy nacho bar, some tasty ideas include:

• plain tortilla chips
• flavoured tortilla chips (like lime or jalapeno)
• waffle fries instead of tortilla chips
• ground turkey mixed with nacho seasoning
• fajita seasoned chicken strips
• pulled pork in BBQ sauce
• chili
• nacho cheese sauce
• shredded cheese
• feta cheese
• black beans
• corn
• tomatoes
• onions
• black olives
• jalapenos
• sour cream
• guacamole
• pico de gallo
• salsa
• shredded lettuce
• green onions
• bell peppers

For a dessert bar, some yummy ideas include:

• graham crackers
• tortillas baked with a butter, sugar and cinnamon mixture on top
• chocolate wafer cookies
• chocolate sauce
• strawberry sauces
• caramel sauce
• fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, pineapple, raspberries)
• candy coated chocolates
• mini marshmallow
• chocolate chips

Cooking and Serving:

Depending on how many guests you have, you may want to have the oven, BBQ and a toaster oven all running at the same time so guests can heat up their nacho plates and melt the cheese. The nacho plates will be hot coming out of the oven or BBQ so you’ll want to consider that when handing over their heated nacho plates. I used paper plates under each aluminum pie plate to make it easier for guests to hold and not burn hands.

Paw Patrol Party:

For this party, I stuck with a lot of the primary colours – red, blue and yellow. It’s a colorful cartoon though so really any colors would fit with this theme. Reminder – I’m going to show you all the party photos here but you’ll want to head over to Wholesale Party Supplies to read my full article and to see where to find all these party supplies and printables.

For party food, I went with a “coffee break” theme because these hardworking pups deserve a break too, right?

Paw Patrol printed tableware helped set the scene for the eating area. This also doubled as an activity station for guests to make their own “official” Paw Patrol badges.

For activities, kids always love a fun photo booth! It’s a fun area for kids to act silly plus it gives them something to take home (their picture) to remember the day. Over on Warehouse Party Supplies, you’ll also find some easy Paw Patrol themed games for kids.

Last, but not least, party favors! There are so many great options when it comes to a Paw Patrol birthday party. You could theme it simply as “Paw Patrol” or focus on one particular character with a police themed Chase bag or a firefighter themed Marshall bag. So many great options!

Ingredients

• Crust:
• Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix plus the ingredients it calls for on the package (butter and egg)
• Cheesecake:
• 3 packages (250g each) cream cheese, softened
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar
• 4 large eggs
• 1/2 cup sour cream
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• juice and zest from 6 fresh key limes (the juice will be about 1/2 cup)
• 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• Icing:
• ½ cup vegetable shortening
• ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter (softened but not melted)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
• juice and zest of 3 fresh key limes

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350F.

Crust:

1. Make cookie mix as directed on the package using the egg and butter.
2. Spread dough evenly in a 9" round spring form pan. To keep the cookie from sticking, you can add a round circle of parchment paper between the pan and the cookie dough.
3. Bake 20 minutes just until dough is set.

Cheesecake:

1. Reduce oven temperature to 325F.
2. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition and occasionally scraping down the inside of the bowl.
4. Beat in sour cream, key lime juice, key lime zest and flour until smooth.
5. Pour cheesecake batter over baked crust and smooth top.
6. Bake until the middle is set (no longer jiggling). This takes about 70 minutes.
7. Let cool completely on wire rack then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours before removing from the pan.
8. Run knife around inside of pan before removing cheesecake.

Icing:

1. In a large bowl, beat shortening and butter on medium speed until light and fluffy.
2. Beat in vanilla.
3. Gradually add confectioners’ sugar (one cup at a time) scraping down sides of bowl to make sure everything is mixed together well.
4. Beat in key lime juice and zest.
5. If icing is too thick, add a bit of water. If icing isn't thick enough, add more confectioners' sugar.
6. Add icing only after cheesecake has completely cooled.
7. Store in refrigerator.

This cheesecake will have to chill in the fridge overnight so hold off on making the icing until you need it. This icing is ready within just a few minutes so no need to make it in advance. If you did make it in advance and stored it in the refrigerator, it would be harder to spread on the cake and harder to pipe swirls.

Shark Party:

Let’s start with the main party table – a combination of a beach and shark-infested water. Watch out sailors! There are shark cupcakes swimming around your boat!

I modified a few surfing party supplies here to look like a shark had taken a bite out of the party.

Shark Photo Booth:

This photo booth was super easy to make with an underwater background plastic sheet, personalized banner, inflatable fish & shark plus green tissue paper seaweed.

Shark Party Favors:

Lots of great ideas for favors when it comes to a shark party. I notice that a lot of parents are skipping over the little items and giving gift certificates as favors instead. If you wanted to try this, a pass for one swimming admission at your local pool would be a great idea!

You can load this up with all your favorite banana split toppings like: bananas (of course), strawberries, pineapple, brownies, fudge, marshmallow cream, sprinkles, strawberry ice cream topping, etc.

The no bake cheesecake should be refrigerated until just before you’re ready to serve it so this recipe isn’t one you’d want to pack for a picnic in the park. Perfect for a backyard BBQ party though where guests can load on their favorite toppings and you can put the leftovers back into the fridge quickly.
