A Romantic Comedy I Loved “Better Off Without Him”

I am one of those stubborn independent woman who also has a bit of attachment type issues when it comes to relationships. I have the ups and downs of feeling stronger when I am single yet getting attached easily to the person I am with, making my strong willed nature disappear slightly. The book, Better Off Without Him written by Dee Ernst, touches on who I am almost 100%. The main character, Mona, is the one person in this novel I related to the most.

Mona is a best selling romance novel who finds her own life a bit of something she would see in her stories. A married mother of three who simply enjoys the job of being mom and doing it all. Mona has,what she perceives to be a typical marriage where the husband works a big job leaving the mom to not only tend to the kids but also put a bit of her career on hold. When Mona’s husband leaves her, she wonders what she will do now.

At first Mona decides that her life story needs to be written, this is a great way for her to cope with what has happened. Mona sits down to work on an anti-romance novel and works to sell her idea to her publicist. Although an anti-romance novel isn’t greatly accepted by her publishers, they allow her time to work on this novel. What Mona never expected was that this anti-romance novel is what may just help her move forward in her life and find out that she was indeed much “better off without him”.

Where will this book lead us during the journey of Mona’s life? Will Mona take her ex husband back? What will Mona teach us, mothers and woman, that we didn’t realize we had within us? Whatever you learn from reading this book, I know one thing for sure is this; you will find yourself laughing and quite possibly relating to the characters within this book.

My Thoughts

I found myself not able to put this novel down. My Kindle Fire was in my hand from beginning to end and read in less than three evenings while my children slept tight in their beds. Books and movies about abuse really make me squirm, having been through a lot of various forms of abuse both living with situations and seeing others go through such experiences, I can say the topic of abuse sits hard on my heart. I long for abuse to no longer be an issue, but reading books like this really help shed hope on the strength of what a woman and mother can do to protect their loved ones.

Kindle Fire Rekindled My Love of Reading

I don’t get away from my kids very often, really only for a trip to the grocery store or downtown to pick up something. For the most part, I am mom 24/7 at least until they fall asleep. My sons are finally at a point where they sleep through the night, my youngest will still occasionally wake mid night but for the most part I finally have three kids who sleep through a whole night and it’s lovely! I stopped working with clients through my virtual assistant business a few months back, just decided that with all I have going on it was becoming too much to run my business on top of blogging and motherhood.

With some time freed up, no longer having to report in to clients, I was able to arrange my work schedule for blogging to be completed each morning instead of me working a few hours in the morning and doing client work at night, I was now open to some free time after the kids were asleep and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with this time. I knew I needed to spend more time working on writing my novel or doing something that was relaxing for me that I haven’t done in a long time; my decision was made once my Dad assisted me in getting the Kindle Fire. Reading it would be.

Reading books on my Kindle Fire has proven to be a fantastic way to keep my imagination for writing skills alive and to relax in silence curled up the recliner after my kids are asleep. Since I have been choosing some pretty amazing books on my Kindle Fire I thought I would start sharing with you all the various books I read and my thoughts on them. So far I have read two kindle books but plan to read many more.

So I can honestly tell you all that the Kindle Fire is a great addition to any tech driven person family home because the Kindle Fire has allowed me more time to read with a wide array of books at my finger tips, the Kindle Fire has truly rekindled my love of reading!

Respecting and Enjoying Wildlife in it’s Own Habitat

The birds are chirping, the frogs are making their frog noises and the air is crisp and fresh. Spring has arrived and with that comes natures need to mate and find the perfect place to have their babies. I feel lucky that two Canadian Geese have found their way to the pond where I live, for in all of my years of having this land in the family I have never seen Canadian Geese take a liking to our pond.

I love sitting outside watching as this goose pictured above waddles around with her partner just eating up the grub she finds in the lawn. The two geese have grown so comfortable with my family that they come rather close to the house instead of staying near the pond like they did at first. They do honk when an unknown vehicle arrives in the yard or if my kids make too loud of a noise outdoors.

However, these geese do not run away. Apparently they can sense that my family is that of a loving, kind family. We have not given them risen to feel threatened and for that I am thankful. My children get to watch wildlife in it’s habitat right in our front yard. I hope that the babies will be born soon so that the kids will be able to see a mother and father Canadian Goose take care of their young.

I love wildlife but I am trying to teach my children through experience that we do not capture wildlife, that we do not feed them or interfere with their living space. It’s a learning experience and makes the children appreciate natures beauty in a respectful way. I must admit it’s relaxing for me to be able to sit on the deck and just watch the wildlife outdoors before getting started on the stressful bedtime routine with my sons.

Sweet Spring Air

She stepped outside on a cool crisp day, the humidity was low but still the stickiness from it was in the air. The cool breeze and sweet Spring air went into her nostrils as she breathed in, as she exhaled she felt relaxed. The day must begin whether she wants it to or not. Time does not stand still even when one needs it to stand still just for a few moments longer.

Life is full of trying times, there are moments when we feel as if there is no where to turn, no one to discuss what’s inside of our own mind, fear that we will be judged or worse yet shun for our thoughts of wishing for more or not wanting some of what we have. Human nature is funny, we try to teach our children to not judge and to be there for others. We teach our children to be kind, be honest and love one another.

She stands outside in the middle of the huge lawn wondering what she will do if she has to make a serious decision. She wonders where her strength comes from, for no matter how many times she has to make a difficult decision it is her strength that keeps her moving forward. The children know that she is mom and she will do everything in her power to ensure they are happy & healthy but what these children do not realize is that she sometimes questions if being honest and standing firm on her morals is really what works in this world?

All too often deceitful, lying people get away with things in life for they are good at manipulation and one must be extremely good at what they do if they never get caught. She believes in Karma, she believes that the universe gives back to you what you put out there, but why do some people not seem to get what they put out there back? Does negative karma take more time? Will those close to her see that she is honest, loving and caring? Will being honest be enough? Only time will tell …. for now she just spends her mornings staring into the skies and breathing in that sweet Spring air.

That’s What Scared the Ducks Away

There is a pair of ducks that frequent our pond and they are just lovely but lately they have been getting spooked out of the pond and flying off shortly after landing. I hadn’t quite figured out why until over the weekend I spotted this lovely creature at the pond…

This is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen, the thing is I have seen geese before, but they were honking flying in a V up in the sky. This is one lone goose that hung around the pond all day over the weekend.

I am not 100% sure but it appeared that this goose was making his or her home by the pond, looking like maybe there’s a nest around this area of the pond for the goose kept hanging around one area looking like it was making a nest area.

Now I don’t know what this goose was doing for sure, but I do know it would not leave. I ventured as close as I could to it thinking maybe it would get spooked and fly off but all it did was waddle into the pond and swim a bit further away from me. Even with all the hussle and bussle of the kids, this goose did not fly off all day.

I wonder what it was doing and if I will see it again?
