Change is Coming : The New Me!

Hello, pretties!

Although I hibernated from blogosphere for 2 years, I was able to be active on my other social media accounts. I was able to change my Instagram username into babiesbooksandlollipops.

What made me change my username?

After giving birth to our second kid, a baby boy, and while contemplating what to do during my more-than-2 months of maternity leave, I had more time browsing and updating my Instagram account. Aside from taking care of the newborn baby, his Ate and the husband, at the same time juggling house chores despite the presence of a house helper, I was able to take time reading my dusty books piled in the corner cabinet of our house that were not touched for the past months because I always felt tired and sleepy during my entire pregnancy. It was also during these period that I was able to eat all the sweet foods I would want to eat (I was deprived on these during my pregnancy because I was having gestational diabetes.) The husband has been so generous to provide me with these.

I was also able to enjoy watching movies (non-stop) during the day especially if the baby boy was asleep. And since his Ate is already in preschool, the TV was all up to me. Hahahaha! The husband was amused when I talked to him the story line of such movies I watched. Name it, from Filipino movies, Hollywood, Korean, Bollywood.. Talk about boredom. Classic movies to recent ones. It was also during this time that I was able to repeat watching Game of Thrones (#1 fan here!) series from its Season 1 to Season 4 and nobody would interrupt me (aside from the little man in the house, if he wants to nurse from and cuddle with his beautiful Mama) every Monday for GoT's Season 5.

And so that's it! Inspired by my 2 babies, my collection of books, my love of sweets and movies, "babies, books & lollipops" sounds like Eureka! to me.

The New Me!

And now that I find this username sound baby-ish/mommy-ish, I am now more than decided to change my blog name into this.

Currently, I already change my header photo with a name "babiesbooksandlollipops" into it. And I like the header photo more than my previous (patronizing myself).

So, pretties, watch out for the next couple of days because my blog page will experience a minor revamp. Definitely, Change is coming here!

I was so curious in using this. Although I have some apprehensions if this will benefit my skin more than damaged it (because of the needles), I have read so many positive and great reviews about dermrollers.

Back From Hiatus : My Personal Struggle

Hello, pretties!

It's been almost 2 years since my last blog post here. Although I made a commitment to give blogging a priority, I could not help but to set aside this due to several personal issues.

Four years ago, our loving mother suffered a very rare disease called cerebellar degeneration. Mother physician first gave a diagnosis of mild stroke due to her trouble in speaking, walking and moving. We have tried all the medications and therapy necessary for her recuperation. But after 5 months with no improvements on her condition, we seek for a second opinion. There we discovered that she has been suffering from cerebellar degeneration.

You may ask, what is this disease? Cerebellar degeneration to be understood by non-medical individuals is the state of cerebellum becoming degenerate or deteriorate. In the case of our mother, her cerebellum shrink to a size of a 3-year old kid. And once the brain, the cerebellum in her case, is damaged or deteriorate, there will be no chance for it to be repaired back to its normal size

During her said hospitalization, her physician found a small lump on her left breast which led the doctor to recommend biopsy and/or surgery, if needed. But, Mother refused of such recommendation and instead decided to undergo alternative medicines. From then and after several examination and evaluation, it was further diagnosed that Mother's having a Paraneoplastic Cerebellar Degeneration. Paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration is a syndrome that occurs predominantly in patients with cancer of the ovary, uterus, or adnexa; cancer of the breast; small-cell carcinoma of the lung; or Hodgkin lymphoma. In short, Mother's lump in the breast triggered the degeneration of her cerebellum.

And since her cerebellum degenerates, her speech, gait, movements and balanced were affected. She really tried her best to walk by herself during the first year after the diagnosis. She would just allow somebody to watch and follow her while she was walking. She called it exercise. She did not want to just sit. She still wants to continue her normal activities but she sometimes got frustrated due to her limitations. She still sung to her grandchildren, she still ate, bathe, brush her teeth, change her clothes, by herself.

Three years passed and we never heard her complaining of said lump. Little did we know that it had already formed into a bigger mass of lump. After almost three years, we noticed redness spreading all over her left arm reaching on her neck area. Thinking it was only allergic reactions to foods or medicines she was taking, we told her to undergo laboratory tests to identify allergens that could have triggered such. However, my very curious brother, two days after, asked her to lift her shirt and showed to him parts of her body. And reality really hurts, upon seeing the mass of lump on her left breast with some skin dimpling and her nipple pulling in, my brother prevented himself from shouting and asking God why these things happened on our mother. This made him think and called us informing that Mother was suffering from breast cancer.

It was also during this time that I was pregnant with our second child. My pregnancy during that time was so critical with having numerous occurrence of spotting and bleeding. Although I visited Mother at their house frequently, I tried to avoid physical and emotional stresses that could triggered another bleeding occurrence while I was pregnant.

Two days after, Mother was sent to a hospital for a biopsy and a mastectomy was done 3 days after. The oncologist diagnosed Mother of having Stage IV Breast Cancer. We were all shocked, worried and anxious but never got angry with God. We never questioned God's purpose on all these but we shared sentiments that He has His reasons on everything that's happening to our mother's life. We may not understood it but we just prayed for it.

Mother has mastectomy on May 18, 2015 and I gave birth to our second child on May 17, 2015. I have been struggling to have a normal delivery but failed because our baby boy is too big to have it normal. My OB decided, with me and my husband's consent, to have a CS operation. I gave life to a healthy baby boy while Mother is fighting cancer to extend her life with us.

After a month of Mother's mastectomy, 6 sessions of chemotherapy was advised by her physician. The period during those chemotherapy was a very hard battle for Mother. We saw how her body thinned, her hair loss, her immune system turned very low, her appetite loss. We saw how her body who used to be an active, strong one turned into a very fragile state. Chemotherapy not only kill cancer cells but also good cells which will make one's body prone to infections and sickness. Mother did finish 5 sessions of chemotherapy for 5 months and her physician did not further the last session.

After which, the physician recommended a weekly session of radiation therapy that will last for two months but we decided not to follow such advice and seek for a second opinion to another well-known oncologist which specializes on breast cancers. She told us not to proceed with the radiation therapy since my mother's condition and state of health will no longer bear the side effects brought by such procedure. Instead she opted for oral chemo and immediately, after checking and evaluating all of Mother's health history, let Mother undergo several laboratory tests and once cleared, prescribed Mother of her oral chemo medicines.

Signs of progress were obviously shown on Mother's health. She began gaining weight because her appetite was back to normal, she already grown a lot of hairs and physically, she looked a lot better than before.

Mother almost 3 months after her 5 sessions of chemotherapy. She still managed to smile despite her condition. With Father always at her side. With her grandchildren, my kids who always wanted to visit their Lola.

Come December 2015, we noticed again redness spreading Mother's left arm. We seek guidance from her oncologist and recommend to continue with her oral chemo. Mostly, these red spots would occur when she had her 2-week rest from taking her oral medicines. During this time, redness covering her arms are on and off. They would sometimes disappear especially if she was having her oral chemo medicines.

April 29, 2016, that was her last birthday with us. We decided to invite her friends and colleagues from the school where she was previously employed as Guidance Counselor, her siblings and a few relatives. Her happiness could not be measured then. She cried seeing her pictures in the tarpaulin we made for her. We felt grateful seeing her so happy despite the illness she was suffering at that time.

Mother with her grandchildren, children and with Father. Her last birthday with us. And the happiest of all.

With her previous colleagues. See, she was so happy then.

With the ever doting husband, who, we gave our greatest praise and love for the strength despite his age (68), his courage despite the situation, his undying love and care for Mother. Above anybody else, he have seen all the sufferings Mother has been through all this time.

Cancer is not only a great enemy to one's body but also a foe to one's pocket. Even Mother has her HMO, there were still some point that we need to shell out big sum of money for Mother's medicines and supplements, physician's fees, laboratory expenses and other special needs, in her case. We are still thankful to God that we are always provided each time we need to finance Mother's needs. And it was never a burden for us to help Mother during this special times.

It was only this June 2016 that we noticed that cancer already spread all over Mother's body. She has wounds all over her left arm that would go on and off. She already had a hard time moving. We told her to schedule a visit to her physician or have her admitted to a hospital but she refused. Even at this point, we never heard her complaining of pain. I heard stories of cancer patients having bouts of endless pain but Mother was a tough lady. Or maybe God never allowed her to experience pains during her battle with cancer.

Mother already have metastasis and now her lungs was the concerned organ. July was a month full of pain and mourning for our family. I had a heavy heart looking at Mother every time we visited their house. I could not bear looking at her suffering from such illness. How could such a very caring, selfless, loving, God-fearing lady suffered such disease?

Father talked to me and told me that he has been praying for the past months that if Mother will not be healed and be free from this disease, then he was asking God not to prolong such agony. It was so hard for us to talk about it.

It was July 19, 2016 that Mother personally asked from me to take her to the hospital. She barely could not speak. She could not sit on her own. She could not move her body, her arms or her legs without somebody's help. She could only speak a word or two but that would entail a great effort for her part for us to understand her words. Her one week stay in the hospital was very emotional. Our older sister arrived from Mindanao days before she was admitted to the hospital. Our youngest sibling, her favorite one, arrived from Manila, 4 days after admitted to the hospital. She told me that she was so happy. She said her goodbyes to her siblings, she greeted her grandchild a Happy Birthday who will be celebrating his birthday on August 23rd. She's always looking for Father, for her grandchildren, for her children.

It was until morning of July 27 that her physician told Father to gather us siblings and talk to Mother that she could take her eternal rest already and to not worry about us. I cried so hard inside our office's comfort room while talking to Father. Although I already opened my heart and mind about this possibility, it was still different when this reality happened.

July 27, 2016 was such a long, tiring day for us. Physically and emotionally tiring. Nanay lost her battle over cancer but she won a different battle because she is now experiencing eternal peace. Although we still need more time, a longer period of time, to recover from such loss but we are still looking at the brighter side that Mother's suffering has already ended.

For the entire 4 years of suffering, we deeply honored and felt grateful of Father in taking care of Mother. Countless times that we heard him boost Mother's faith in God through prayers, Bible scriptures reading, reading inspirational books. We never heard him blaming God for such situation. He could always gave Mother a joke or teased her that would eventually made her smile or laugh. Of all Mother's demands, he made sure that he gave it to her. That's true love. He even celebrated his birthday in the hospital last July 23, 2016 and even joked Mother to get well the soonest so she could eat yummy foods again. (That time we only bought foods in the hospital room to celebrate Father's birthday.)

To our dear mother, your physical body may have left us but your memories, your goodness, your love, your embrace and kisses will always remain and live with us. You left us beautiful memories and values.

You will always be remembered and loved... In our hearts... ALWAYS...

I recently checked ZALORA to find some catchy birthday present for a friend and a few colorful lippies catch my eyes (hehehe..) And since I love everything PINK, you will understand why I grab these girly-colored lippies.

PICKED LIPSTICK #1

PRODUCT NAME : COLLECTION VOLUME SENSATION #2 PERFECT PINK

Size : 5mL.

Price : PhP249.00

Straight from the UK, Collection Colour brings the Philippines a piece of cosmetic perfection. Volume Sensation Lipstick contains up to 40% volumizing ingredients to plump up your pout in a flash! It's a moisturizing lipstick with a luxurious creamy feel.

I only use this once. I love its color but I don't like the shiny, shimmering effect it gives on my lips. On its first application, I did not notice the sheen but after several minutes, I can see that there were glittery effect on it. (Imagine silver dusts.. Hehehe) And it really made my lips plump, but still I don't like it. What catches my attention on purchasing this is its packaging. Again, I love PINK! Let's not argue on that. Lol!

But if you ask if I will be buying this product again? MAYBE NOT! The major no-no for me is the glittery effect it gives on my lips.

Enriched with vitamins A and E, and aloe vera for moist-looking lips
Long lasting
Silky finish

I love using this on top of a red or dark pink matte lippie. This gives a silky finish to my lips. It keeps my lips hydrated because it is enriched with Vitamins A and E, and aloe vera extract, it does not only makes your lips moist-looking, but also nourished. The downside is that it does not stay long. You need to re-apply after 2 - 3 hours. It also has a not-so-appealing smell that reminds me of oil. Maybe they could also improve its packaging especially its transparent cover. Once you drop it off, it has a big possibility that it will be cracked or broken. But of course, I have to consider its price. Its performance goes a long way considering its value.

Will I buy this product again? Maybe but not for now. There could be other lippies out there that would give a better performance.

Aside from my Zalora finds, I also got a chance to go to Watson's and spotted this IN2IT MOISTURE INTENSE LIPSTICK in PINK ALARM.

PRODUCT NAME : IN2IT MOISTURE INTENSE LIPSTICK (PINK ALARM)

Price : 375.00

It has a nice packaging with swirly details on it. It also has no fancy smell, no taste and is not heavy on the lips, you can feel that it's not there. What I love about this is that it has lasting power that can stay on the lips for more than 6 hours. I don't need to reapply from time to time even if I have eaten foods. And the color is so nice it can match on any skin color. It has a matte-like finish yet it does not dry up my lips. I noticed that it also has a moisturizing power that leaves my lips moisturized every time I use it. But anyways, I still apply lip balm before using this one. (Old habit that I could not let go.)

Will I buy this product again? Yes! Aside from the fact that I love the color, one major factor that leaves a good impression is that it lasts longer on my lips. I also love its packaging.

Peachy-colored cream with thick consistency packed in a small tub container. I would prefer if this is packaged in a tube pump for hygienic purposes.

THE EXPERIENCE :

The cream easily blends on my skin and even a small amount can cover the entire face. It has thick consistency but is not heavy on the skin. It has a matte finish and has good oil control. With this cream, I don't have to worry on having an oily face or frequent application of face powder. However, I can see and feel that my skin is still hydrated and moisturized. For more than a month's use, the pores on my face became less visible. Unlike other creams I tried, I don't have problems on whiteheads appearing on my nose or face. This cream also maintains my skin's smoothness. With the entire duration of use, I have no experience of break-outs or itchiness but made my face clearer with radiance. It has no overpowering or strong scent, I like it!

Anyways, I will never subscribe to SaladBox again.

My First (& Definitely the Last) Salad Box Experience

Okay, so I also joined the hype on subscription boxes. Just to also feel the excitement of waiting for the box to arrive and what's inside it.

So here's my story : I searched through the internet and asked fellow bloggers what's the best subscription box so far. To make it short, I subscribed to a Salad Box 3-month starter plan and BDJ Box which the Bellas from BDJ confirmed that I am included on their August subscribers. I was able to place my Salad Box subscription on June 23, 2014. I was able to to follow-up through email asking the schedule of my box to arrive or as to the month of subscription. I received a confirmation from Salad Box's operations associate that I am in line with the trio box lot which is SkinFood, Regatta and Runway Ready boxes and they are on its way already. I was a bit curious why I will be having a trio box lot but anyways I disregard it due to excitement again!

Finally, my box arrived in my office. I was a bit tempted to open it but I still remind myself not to do it. (That's me being so excited...) So, I went home and quite frustrated upon seeing that they already sent me the three boxes intended for a 3-month plan. As stated on their website :

It is clearly stated that the starter plan is good for three months and will automatically be canceled after the third month. So, where's the third month here since I received all the three boxes on the first month? So disappointing, very disappointing and deceiving...

Anyways, what's more frustrating is that they sent me boxes intended for the months of March, April and May subscriptions. I already read unboxing posts from fellow bloggers of their March, April and May SaladBoxes. And upon seeing the items, the excitement's gone. Okay, so the SkinFood box is such a good catch. But the Regatta items? Hello, summer's over, long gone. I received the boxes on July 10, 2014 and the boxes I received are boxes dated four months ago. What are these? Left-over boxes for those unlucky individuals? I paid for a subscription box intended for three months but I did not deserve to receive three outdated boxes from you, guys.

I sent an email again to SaladBox voicing out my concern on this a week ago but heard no response from them.

MARCH BOX received on July? Are you serious on this? For the month of July? This is four months overdue... Panis na...

APRIL BOX : Summer must-haves? Are you still serious? On this rainy season?

MAY BOX : Again, they are serious, I think...

I know there are disadvantages on availing these subscription boxes because you get to know the products inside the box once you only opened it. But I think it not fair to the customers if the terms stated by the company will not be followed and implemented by the company itself. Plus, the boxes given to customers are boxes intended for past month's subscriptions. It will be acceptable for me if it's a month of delay, but it is not reasonable if I will receive a box dated three or four months ago. That is plainly and clearly described as deceiving.

Psalmstre Placenta Herbal Beauty Soap with Papaya Extract : Review

Let's do a review on Psalmstre New Placenta Herbal Beauty Soap. I've done blog hopping and found out that there are a number of good reviews on this soap. I bought the 90 grams for only PhP58.00 at Mercury Drug and used it for more than a month.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND INGREDIENTS

Take a look of its ingredients and you can see that it is mostly for skin whitening and anti-aging. It has sodium hyaluronate, placenta, aloe, papaya extract.

The soap easily dissolves in the water. I cut the soap into four parts. This way the part/cut that I am using will be the only one exposed to the water.

If you are dead serious on getting a fairer/whiter skin, this one's for you. Aside from it is available locally in any drugstores or malls, it also has an affordable price.

You may ask, so this is the perfect soap for everyone? I think not! This one is a bit harsh on the skin and be sure to have a good moisturizing lotion since this one dries up my skin. Or may I say, too much dryness. During the first use, I lather the soap directly on my skin but I felt that it stings on my skin. My face also felt a bit irritated. Eventually, I did not end up having skin breakouts on my face but having rashes on my arms and legs. Being stubborn enough not to give up easily, I again tried using this soap this time with loofah. It did not sting anymore but still, it is too drying and the appearance of rashes are still there. The good thing on this is it effectively exfoliates your skin and does not have a strong scent.

THE VERDICT

PROS :

effective whitening - I can see visible whitening effect for 7 days

effectively exfoliates the skin + no strong scent

CONS :
cause rashes on the skin

Will I buy this again? Maybe not anymore. But if you really want a whitening soap that delivers its whitening promise, try this, but make sure you have a good moisturizing cream or lotion that will effectively hydrate your skin.

I met a friend that I have not seen for more than a year. Not to be too judgmental , but way back years ago, her face is so prone to pimples and acne due to its oiliness. She was even making a joke of her face having so many pimples. But I can't help but ask what she is using on her skin now that her face became visibly clear of pimples and acne. Review : Vaseline Healthy White Instant Fair Visible Fairness Lotion

Whitening products are so popular in almost all Asian countries including Philippines. Most beauty brands are offering multi-benefits on our skin and whitening/lightening is always on the list. Today, I will be doing a review on one of the new lotions of Vaseline which claims to control melanin formation, with triple sunscreen protection and could make you up to 4 times fairer instantly! Presenting, the VASELINE HEALTHY WHITE INSTANT FAIR VISIBLE FAIRNESS LOTION.

I got this 200mL lotion from Sample Room together with the other products (see my post here about my First Sample Room Haul).

The shape of the bottle is so easy to hold.

The product's Skin Micro Reflectors gives the instant brightening effect since the light will be evenly reflected all over the skin. Another plus factor on this Instant Fair Lotion is that it has triple sunscreen protection which guards you from the scorching heat of the sun (although I will still recommend to put your regular sunscreen lotion aside from this).

So this is how it works. Is this achievable? Instantly? Let's see!

Vaseline Healthy White Instant Fair Visible Fairness Lotion TV Commercial

This is a bit messy. It would be nice if this is a pump container.

Light pink lotion. It has a nice scent, not so strong and overpowering. It is not sticky or greasy, it easily absorbs by the skin. It is non-drying unlike some of the whitening lotions I tried. It has a thick consistency but it still feels good on the skin when applied.

It also has Vitamin B3 which claims to help in minimizing the production of melanin. The Titanium Oxide found in the lotion is an illuminating mineral which gives the skin an instant brightening glow. This act as micro skin reflectors which gives the appearance of instant radiance and brightening.

Instant fairness? I would like to suggest that it is not instant fairness but INSTANT RADIANCE!

(Although this was taken during the night, I can still see the instant radiance on my skin.)

I love to see that my skin shows an instant radiance / glow after using this lotion. Especially when outdoor, its effect is really that visible.

I have yet to see the promise of further lightening my skin since I am only using this for more than a month. The "instant radiance" is only temporary since I noticed that a "peachy-colored substance" goes with the water once I washed my skin (because the water became pinkish/peachy colored..). I think a few more months could really prove its lightening promise.

KB Collagen Food Supplement : An Honest Review

Hello, pretties!

I promised on my previous post featuring KB Collagen Food Supplement that I will be reviewing this product after a month of taking it. (Click HERE for the blog post) So, I already consumed the three bottles of my collagen food supplement and I almost forgot to post my review here due to so many conflicting schedules.

So I mentioned in my previous blog that I have 3 boxes of KB Collagen Food Supplement. Based on the label instructions, suggested use is 1 - 3 tablets a day. I decided to take 2 tablets a day for two weeks but after a week of taking 2 tablets, I changed my decision (that's me being me.. hahaha..). I take 3 tablets a day until the third week and drop to again to two tablets for the rest of the remaining tablets.

The ingredients and the instructions stated on the box.

So after using this product for a month, here are the results.

I don't have any skin breakouts or itchiness. I don't feel nauseous or drowsy. It also does not affect my appetite.

I noticed that even using it for only 2 weeks, my skin already feels smoother and supple. Through continued use, my pores became less visible. My face also has a bright glow although I could not see any visible lightening effect when it comes to my skin color. What's visible is the pinkish glow on my face especially if my face is bare without any make-up or face powder on it. However, I could see that my arms and legs are still a bit dry. (I have an oily face but the skin on my legs and arms are dry.) Maybe if I will use this for a long period of time, it will also improve the moisture of my legs and arms and also prove its lightening effect on my skin.

Venus & Mars Naturals Miracle Emu Oil

Been so busy with work activities that I need (although it's always on my mind) to forget on posting any articles here. So many commitments, so little time.

Okay, enough of that whining and I have to proceed with my review on Venus & Mars Naturals Miracle Emu Oil.

I got a 5 mL sample of this emu oil from Sample Room together with the other beauty products (see my First Ever Sample Room Haul blog post)

WHAT IS AN EMU OIL?

According to my research, emu oil is derived from the fat of a flightless bird indigenous to Australia called an emu. Emu oil is widely used in many personal care products because it is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and it has deep penetrating moisturizing properties. It is also considered to have anti-aging properties which helps in getting rid some of the wrinkles and signs of aging in the skin. It has skin regeneration properties, essential fatty acids, antioxidants and even vitamins that all come together to create its anti-aging effects. Emu oil has the ability to penetrate the skin at a very deep level, getting down into the skin pores, nourishing them and hydrating them back to perfection. Further, emu oil is sometimes marketed as anti-inflammatory product.

HOW I USE VENUS & MARS NATURALS MIRACLE EMU OIL?

I use this emu oil during the night because I don't want my face to look greasy during the day, just in case this emu oil would make my face oily.

I wash my face with my facial soap and use a toner after. I decided to skip using my usual night cream just to test this product on my face.
Pour a drop of emu oil onto my middle finger and spread gently on my face.
Do not immediately sleep after putting on the emu oil to the face. Allow the emu oil to be absorbed by the face before sleeping to avoid transfer of oil to the pillow case or bed sheet.

The texture of V&M Naturals Miracle Emu Oil is so light and is easily absorbed by the skin. Since it is 100% natural and hypoallergenic, I don't have any breakouts and itchiness while using it. However, I can smell the oil in it which I personally don't like.

After three days of using the emu oil, my face became more oily. It is because I already have an oily skin from the start. However, I noticed that the pimple scars in my face dried up. My face also became smooth and supple that I love touching it. It also give my skin a brightening glow. But even with these benefits, I decided to use this emu oil to the scars on my skin and on my baby's since it shows fast healing effects (I don't want my skin to become too greasy). My little one has small wound on her right arm due to insect bites. I applied it to her skin and the next day it dried up. After days of continued use, the scars from the insect bites lightened.

V&M Naturals Emu Oil really is a miracle oil because of its skin healing properties. I have not yet emptied the bottle sample because you can just dab a small amount onto the skin. Will I buy this again? Of course!

Hair Accessories : A DIY Back-to-School Project For My Little One

So, it's back to school again. And my little one is now on its nursery school (last year I allowed her to attend school as a sit-in/observer student since she was not allowed to enroll on a regular class because of her age).

I still have plenty of ribbons, fabrics, hair clips, metal headbands and accessories left since I used to sell hair clips and headbands online. (Since I became preoccupied with all the activities : career, mom and wife duties, blogging, etc, etc. not to mention my current hobby - gardening/flowers, I decided to take a rest on making hair accessories.) But although I quit selling these online, I still make an effort to spare a day or two in making a pair or more for my little doll. So now that she'll be going back to school, I decided to make ~~one~~ a pair for her.

I just love pink. I have loads of scrap fabrics which I kept in case I am in the mood of making crafts. Plus the metal headband.

So you wrap the fabric into the metal headband. Make sure to wrap it nicely.

I also have flowers and rosettes made of ribbons and fabrics that I previously made during my online-selling days. I also kept several trinkets which can still be used for my DIYs crafts.

There goes my little one's pink, girly headband.

I also chose two of my kept rosettes and attached them to a metal hair clip and adorned it with a feather decoration I bought.

Yeah, yeah, I know! I was a bit late on getting to know Sample Room (am I the only one?). As I previously mentioned on my First Ever Sample Room Haul, I stumbled upon this site while looking for ways to modify and beautify (Lol!) my blog site.

READ-WORTHY OF THE MONTH : Chicken Soup for the Soul (Moms Know Best)

This is again another revelation of one of my passions in life : BOOKS! Aside from shopping beauty products and clothes, I am also an impulse-buyer of books. Who doesn't love reading, anyway? Aside from the fact that it is entertaining, reading reduces stress from work, it is mentally stimulating, adds up my knowledge, expands my memory, vocabulary and writing skills, improves my focus and attention and aids in developing stronger analytical skills. So, there you know its benefits. Now, enough of my ramblings. Lol!

So, I decided that every month I will share to you the books I am currently indulging with.

While looking for a Game of Thrones box set at National Bookstore, I saw this book and suddenly I fell in love with it (agad-agad?).

Chicken Soup for the Soul books has always been my all-time favorite. I was able to read several Chicken Soup books way back high school years. I love that its stories are so practical and very inspirational.

This book is intended to all the mothers of all ages but I also recommend that this book will also be introduced to the husbands and children so they can also appreciate and recognize the most important woman in their lives. In this book, mothers will be inspired and delighted in the stories and feel good about the recognition they receive.

This book focuses on the pervasive wisdom of mothers everywhere. It includes the 101 best stories from Chicken Soup for the Soul’s library on our perceptive, understanding, and insightful mothers. These stories celebrate our mothers’ unerring wisdom about everything from the mundane to the life-changing, and the hard work that goes into being a mother.

Summer will never be complete without frequent visit to beaches and exposure to the heat of the sun. We were able to have a 4-day vacation in Boracay and, as expected, a darker skin color is what I got. I am morena and I think it will always stay that way. What I wanted is to lighten my dark skin brought by exposure to the sun during our vacation and eventually even out my skin tone. So, while looking for a whitening lotion or soap, I spotted this one and decided to try this (blame it to the TV commercials) with the hope that it will deliver its promise : "Whiten skin in 7 days."

So, I bought the 125g (it also has 90g) for only around PhP60 (I forgot the exact price).

The product claims that it fights skin aging and a whiter, more vibrant skin will be visible in as early as 7 days.

It contains Vitamin A, B3, C and E for intense moisturization. With its Synchronized Whitening action, you could achieve a beautiful blush white skin.

MY BEAUTY RUNDOWN

I am using this soap on my body only. I love its sweet scent. It is not strong but instead a sweet one (think of lavender... my opinion...). The soap is not so foamy and does not easily melt. The entire 125g lasts for at least 2 months. Although it did not deliver its promise, I can see that my skin lightens a bit after more than a month of using this soap. My skin color does not change drastically but eventually it returned to its normal skin color. I love that this soap does not dry up my skin unlike some other whitening soaps. Some of the scars left by mosquito bites also lightens a bit. What I don't like is its shape because it always slips on my hand. Although I did not experience having that beautiful blush white skin since I use this on my body, I am satisfied with the result.

Yeah, I have been featuring beauty products and reviews lately. So this time, I will be featuring my little ones' must-haves. I know every mom wants what's best for our babies but, of course, there are still products that may be more affordable compared to other products yet hiyang to our little ones.

So, mommies, here's my little one's must-haves :

Product Name : Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Product Description : This gentle, soap-free cleanser was originally formulated for dermatologists, specifically for everyday cleansing of even the most sensitive skin.

Use/s : For the face

For my little one's body, I have been using either Johnson's Milk Bar Soap or Nivea Baby Head to Toe Wash. My little one also tried using Lactacyd Toddlertubs but unfortunately, it does not work out since she is so active and super pawisin. But for my little one's face, I am consistent on using Cetaphil. The best thing about this product is that it is non-comedogenic. It is a non-irritating cleanser and does not dry up my little ones skin. It also has no scent and leaves my baby's skin feeling soft and smooth.

Product Name : Banana Boat Kids Sunscreen Lotion SPF UVB 50 PA+++

Product Description : Safeguards your child's delicate skin.

Directions : Apply generously and evenly to exposed skin 20 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply at frequent intervals after perspiring, swimming or towel drying.

The present temperature is sometimes so harsh on our skin, most especially to our little one's. To protect our angels from the scorching heat, sunscreen lotion is really a must-have. This one has been good to my baby's skin sensitivity. There has been no rashes or redness on her skin once we start using this lotion. It also has oxybenzone - an organic compound used in sunscreens that provides broad-spectrum ultraviolet coverage, including UVB and short-wave UVA rays. Just take note, mommies, that even though our baby has sunscreen lotion applied on their skin, overexposure to the sun is still a serious health threat.

Product Name : Caladryl Lotion Anti-Itch Skin Protectant

Product Description : For soothing relief of itching due to insect bites, skin allergy and other minor skin irritations.

Directions : Shake well before use. Apply on the affected area of the skin three to four times daily.

My little ones skin is sensitive that a small mosquito bite may turn into a scar. This has been my problem since I could not predict the places she went. That's why I always bring Caladryl Lotion with me wherever we go. Applying this lotion to the bitten area prevents itchiness on my little ones skin. So we say bye-bye to redness due to itchiness, bye-bye to scars.

Product Name :Tiny Fangs Kiddie Tooth Gel

This one is flouride-free, has xylitol, paraben-free (paraben = preservatives used in cosmetics and by pharmaceutical industries), SLS-free (SLS = sodium lauryl sulfate, an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent) and has no artificial color.

Since my little one has asthma and has sensitive skin, I could not let her use baby powders, lotions or colognes. I tried using these products to her for so many times but to my guilt, asthma or rasher would always be a problem. Thanks to this liquid powder, my little one were able to smell sweet without risking asthma attack or skin rashes. This was introduced to me by my office mate and fellow mommy and my baby's skin love it immediately. It is dermatologist tested to be hypoallergenic. It does not smell so strong or overpowering, it scent is so baby-ish!

Maybe It's Maybelline : Baby Lips Color

I usually had chapped lips since I have this (bad) habit of frequently biting and/or licking my lips. It is not so good to look at since it will become too dry and flaky. That's why lip balms will always be a part of my beauty essentials. And to honestly tell you, I am a major fan of Maybelline Baby Lips since it's first introduced in the market.

But my most fave of all is this Baby Lips Color in Cherry Kiss. I love that it gives my lips a hint of red even without wearing a lipstick. Okay, I know. It's color is not as vibrant as those red lipsticks, but I still love wearing this lip balm.

Why I love this baby? It moisturizes my lips without looking so oily. Plus it stays for 6 long hours.

It's formula has Vitamin E and jojoba oil which helps in shedding away rough and drying lips resulting to a supple smooth and soft lips all day.

You can count on this baby since it also has SPF16.

For only less than a hundred pesos, you can achieve a baby smooth lips on this one. It also has a nice packaging, oh-so girly and super handy!

I've been using this lip balm for years and I can say that we are a perfect match. It is so easy to apply and does not feel sticky on the lips. It even smells sweet!

Weider Fat Burner with Chromium Picolinate and Green Tea

This post has been drafted 3 months ago but I just recently taken notice of this and decided to finish it.

Okay, lately I have been obsessed on losing weight that I had to take extra effort (not to mention extra budget) to achieve my goals. Aside from my usual jogging and physical activities, I was able to take the Bragg Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (click the link to read my review on this) before deciding to buy another weight loss product.

Of course, I had to be careful on purchasing a weight loss product which would not also risk my health. After so many research, I decided to buy Weider Fat Burner with Chromium Picolinate and Green Tea.

I bought this product through Lazada for PhP1,358.00. They have in 300 tablets and 150 tablets available. I bought the 300 tablets since it's on sale.

I think this product made a good first impression on me since upon opening, it has a very enticing and delicious smell. Imagine eating cinnamon roll, it smells cinnamon mainly because one of its content in every tablet is the cinnamon powder.

What I like with this product is its natural ingredients. Okay, so let's tackle its main ingredients and its benefit on weight loss :

Chromium Picolinate : An "essential trace element" that our body needs to regulate blood-sugar levels. Promotes weight loss by controlling the appetite, preserving lean muscle mass and reducing the body fat. It aims to reduce the body's cravings for sweets and works to make it easier to burn more calories.
Green Tea Extract : Research shows that green tea extract is useful for burning fat and boosting your metabolism. Green tea inhibits fat cell development and increase fat excretion
Kola Nut Extract : Kola nut is the seed of the Kola nut plant and is widely used in Nigeria and many West African countries. This is used for short term relief of fatigue, depression, lack of normal muscle tone, for weight loss and migraines.
Caffeine (source from green tea extract and kola nut extract)
Cinnamon Powder : Rich in manganese, iron, calcium and fiber. It has been used since medieval times to cure indigestion, bloating and diarrhea. It keeps you feeling full; a natural digestive; helps energy levels, concentration and alertness and improves gut health.
Cayenne Powder : The main active ingredient in cayenne powder is capsaicin which is said to be a "thermogenic chemical". Thermogenic chemicals help speed your metabolism and decrease your appetite. This powder not only promote weight loss but also increase blood flow, maintains healthy blood pressure, increase your sex drive, helps reduce ulcers and promotes a healthy digestive system.

Of course, this weight loss supplement shall be coupled with hard work to see better and faster results. And when I say hard work it means consistent exercise.

As per directions stated on its bottle, you have to take 2 tablets at least half an hour before breakfast and another two half an hour before lunch. During my regular days without this supplement, at around 10 AM, I would take my usual snack break at work because of hunger and a great appetite for food. Same with during the afternoon, at 3 PM, I would really search for food and sometimes I have cravings for certain foods that I call for a food delivery from a local fast food outlet.

Its promise on suppressing my appetite took effect hours after taking the first two tablets. I was so amazed by its effect that I barely notice the time. It was already lunch time and me without craving for a snack to dig in at 10 AM. Although it does not deliver a drastic change on my body weight but I feel lighter than the usual. I also have no cravings for sweet or salty foods, unlike before. I do not feel bloated even during my pre and post monthly period.

I have no jitters nor palpitations. I have no experience of nausea while taking this and it has no effect on my skin since there were no skin breakouts or allergies that came out while taking this. Taking this supplements increase my level of alertness and even if I stay late the night before, I did not feel so stressful or tired at work during the day.

However, do not take this supplement if you are pregnant, lactating or you are taking medications for an existing medical condition. My only concern is the tablets is too big for me to swallow, but nevertheless, it's only a minor issue.

I already finished a bottle after more than two months. I plan to take a rest on taking this supplement while I still continue to do my usual physical exercises.

So here's my verdict on this weight loss supplement :

Maybelline Clear Smooth 8-in-1 BB White Cream

An all-in-one formulation that first became a sensation in South Korea and spread throughout its neighboring Asian countries. BB cream, is short for blemish balm or beauty balm, was originally developed in Germany. This cream was hailed as the secret of Korean actresses – where porcelain skin is one of their greatest assets.

After finishing my first tube of BB cream from a different product line, I spotted this Maybelline BB Cream and decided to give it a try. I heard many favorable reviews on this BB cream and it is best to also try it. I bought the 02 Natural color of the cream for only PhP250. I have been using this BB cream for 2 months and it is the right time to give this product a review.

The packaging is so handy which contains 18mL that you can carry it with you anywhere you travel. I like its packaging in tube and has nozzle. Using it creates no mess.

What I like most on this BB cream is its SPF 50 PA+++ which is most needed especially because of the sun’s scorching heat. (The more + sign you can see after the PA, the higher the protection it provides to our skin. PA is the Japanese's evaluation standard showing how much protection we are getting from the UVA.)

Another plus factor is that this BB cream is non-comedogenic. It claims that it is suitable for any skin type and is true since I have a sensitive skin yet for months of using it, I felt no itchiness and I never experienced skin breakouts. It also has no strong, overpowering smell, it smells like your usual foundation – I love it!

The cream has good consistency that it blends up easily on the skin. It is a bit sticky and has a dewy finish that makes my skin looks oily. It has a medium coverage that the pores in my face are not visible. However, after about 3 hours of application, I can see that my face is so shiny and the cream was almost not there. It moisturizes my skin but it has no oil control. So what I did the next day is that I put my usual light face powder after applying this product to avoid oiliness. The BB cream stays on my skin for longer hours compared to the first application.

Here's my beauty rundown :

Medium coverage. Conceals small pores and imperfections (although I don't really have acne or skin breakouts, that's why it can easily conceals)

Of course, nothing can compare to the outcome and performance of the Korean BB creams.   But if you are a student or has a tight budget looking for an affordable BB creams, then this BB cream is right for you.

Inexpensive Accommodation at Boracay, Station 1 : La Bella Casa de Boracay

Okay, so this post is a bit late since we went to Boracay about 2 months ago. Since our internet connection is so slooooow and my mind is a bit disorganized these past days, I have not written any new posts here.

We again decided to have a vacation in Boracay as a birthday gift for our little one. I tried searching online for a new and affordable accommodation near Station 1. The first one who replied to our inquiries is the La Bella Casa de Boracay. I also found out that La Bella has a number of good reviews from their previous guests. I made transactions with one of their staff through their Facebook account and I was so delighted that they gave immediate attention on my inquiries. What gave me another happiness is that it has affordable rooms. We availed of the standard room worth PhP1,800.00 per night for 4 days and 3 nights, isn't it so affordable? We really did not chose an expensive room since we will be staying on the beach or exploring the island most of the time.

For our reservation, I was required to pay 50% of the total amount through online bank payment. On that same day, I was given a voucher through my email to be presented on our arrival.

The famous Willy's Rock, minutes walk away from La Bella.

We rode in a tricycle going to La Bella and paid PhP100.00 for an exclusive trip going there. La Bella is located behind the Balabag Church and near the Police Station. Although it is not located fronting the white beach, it is only about 2-minute walk to get to the beach in Station. You can have a quick access to the Boracay's famous landmark - Willy's Rock and the famous thirst-quencher - Jonah's Fruit Shake.

I like this accessory found in our room... HAPPINESS!

The receptionist is so welcoming. However, we were assigned in the room fronting the street and I was a bit frustrated since all the noise of the passing vehicles/tricycles and people can be heard inside our room as well as our (my little one's) rambling can also be heard outside. With the facilities, it has hot and cold shower, a cable TV, air-conditioning unit, a WiFi access and a free breakfast of our choice based on their menu.

Their sets of breakfasts...

I heard that they have a cafeteria where you can dine but we prefer our breakfast to be delivered in our room. Medyo makulit the little one, that's why. They have great foods and best of all is that they have great serving staff. Since we stayed for four days, they changed our bed and pillow covers and towels daily. They also religiously clean our room without complains that we have so many kalat because of our little one's doing.

Although their television set is not yet an LED nor an LCD, we still did not mind since we were not spending most of our time watching its shows.

Next to our room is the reception area and the nice thing is, this is where the guard-on-duty also stays during his shift. They have the best guard! He is so approachable and you can ask anything about Boracay or any of its activities or attractions. This is also good for budget travelers since it has inexpensive restaurants and karinderias within the area that you can have affordable meals during your stay in Boracay. The downside of its location is that it is far from D'Mall. We need to ride a tricycle to go D'Mall or Station 2 where most of the good restaurants and shopping boutiques are located. Anyways, it's not that big deal, though!

Over-all, we had a great vacation in Boracay and a pleasant stay in La Bella Casa de Boracay. I would gladly recommend this to those who are on a budget and still wants to explore and enjoy Boracay.

And by the way, La Bella Casa de Boracay earned their Triapvisor's Certificate of Excellence for the Year 2013.
