We normally don’t post on anything related to the weekends here at Monday Night Brewing, but this Sunday a lot of beer will be consumed. Not necessarily craft beer. SaveOnBrew put together this nifty little infographic on Super Bowl Sunday and its sordid love affair with beer. Click for a larger view.

Perhaps the most interesting statistic to me?

58% “Go” during the game so they don’t miss the commercials

58% is over half, for you math idiots out there. I also find myself torn – I love football, but as a marketing dork, I also love Super Bowl ads. My ideal scenario would be to wear Oops I Crapped My Pants during the Super Bowl so I could have 4 hours of uninterrupted television. No bathroom breaks, no holding it. Just the good stuff.

Don’t judge me.

We interrupt our normally hard-hitting journalism to bring you a story that will warm your heart and fill your glass. According to Denver Westword, four small Denver brewers all ordered from the same fermenter supplier to save on freight costs.

Freight costs can be pretty steep, depending on where you’re shipping from. We have had to pay over $1000 just to move a few pallets of kegs around. You add those little trips up, and it becomes a meaningful part of your business. Shipping won’t make or break us, but it does get its own line item in our accounting software. From Denver Westword:

In a show of solidarity (not to mention some penny-wise fiscal management) four small brewers are putting in an order for new brewing equipment and tanks in a move that will save them all a chunk of change and help them expand. Copper Kettle, Renegade, Strange Brewing and Caution are all buying from Premier Stainless Systems, a San Diego-based brewery system designer and manufacturer that supplies hundreds of beer makers around the country.

“Premier said there was no difference on shipping whether we bought four tanks or eight, so we decided to coordinate this together,” says Copper Kettle co-owner Jeremy Gobien. So, instead of paying $1,500 a piece, each brewery will only spend about $400.

Sure, they’re saving a few hundred bucks. But I think the bigger news here is the continued trend of small breweries working together, like Avery and Russian River’s Collaboration Not Litigation Ale. This is an industry like no other.

Drink up.

So there we were at a craft beer tweet-up at Edgewood Corner Tavern, minding our own business. Drinking some beers, being dorky. The usual.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a strange girl walks up with a box. We immediately thought “Oh crap, anthrax.” But it was worse.

Free cupcakes, infused with our beer, Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale. We had been talking to Kristen of Eye Candy Cake Company on Twitter. She mentioned she might have a surprise for us, and she was right. These things look delicious. But the question remains… how did they taste?

Beer-infused cupcakes also taste delicious. A chocolate cupcake is the perfect complement for our Drafty Kilt, which is brewed with a little bit of chocolate malt. Kristen, we’re impressed. We want you to know that we approve of putting beer in cupcakes. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

When we formulate our beer recipes, one of things we keep in mind is how our beers will pair with foods. As a company that stands for the weeknights, we realize that a lot of our beer will be consumed with food. It’s cool to see people experimenting with our beers – we’re always available for taste tests!

Alright folks, we heard you. “Make the logo bigger.” It’s every brand’s dream to have feedback from their consumers saying “Make the logo bigger,” so we’re not complaining. Since we’re still in startup mode, this vehicle wrap is a relatively large investment for us, so we want to make sure to get it right. We’re also going to retool the back panel to make our logo more prominent, and put our website on the roof. But the big thing we need to figure out is the side of the vehicle. Here is the original, plus 3 alternates. We’d love your vote on your favorite, as well as any additional feedback you’ve got.

Sidenote: Option 3 was developed with the driver of our vehicle in mind, Gordon. He’s a fan of wizards, and like any craft beer loving man’s man, thought a pink unicorn might add a little “badass” to the car. True, there’s no Monday Night branding on the car per se, but maybe it’s worth it to give Gordon the chariot of his dreams.

We have the opportunity to wrap a 2006 Chevy HHR with our logo. “Opportunity” is perhaps an optimistic word, given that the HHR has been discontinued. Chevy claims that it’s because people weren’t buying them. Hopefully they’ll still buy beer that’s advertised ON them.

Still, we aren’t the kind of guys that look a gift horse in the headlights. So we’ve whipped up a design for our new chariot. We need to go to the printer soon, but we can still make some tweaks, so please let us know what you think!

P.S. Should we put anything on the roof? Do helicopter pilots and truck drivers deserve our love?
