There is the Supplier that is already participating in Medicare and then there is the one that is enrolled but does not actively participate in Medicare.

The Suppliers who are currently active must accept Assignment as this is mandatory! What does this mean? Well, they must agree to accept a pre-defined set fee for the electric wheelchair they sell. And it is required by Law that they cannot charge more than the Medicare allowed billing.

It is also important to note that a Supplier who is approved by Medicare and makes the decision to not participate can charge a price more than the amount approved by Medicare. But they cannot under any circumstance charge more than 15 percent of the amount approved by Medicare. Also expect that you might have to pay the full amount for the electric wheelchair when you pick it up. And Medicare will simply reimburse you later.

You need to also check and see if you get Medicare coverage through a Medical Advantage Plan like a PPO or HMO. If you do it is more likely that the Plan will have its own guidelines for the purchase. There could be some restrictions for this Plan with the Provider from which you purchase the electric wheelchair. And please realize that your Health Plan must meet the supply levels to at least what Medicare covers. It is required that it not be lower than this. You may even receive more coverage with the Plan you are currently covered by than you could receive with Medicare. It is very important and makes perfect sense to call your Medicare Advantage Plan's Customer Service Department and ask about your coverage before buying any electric wheelchair.

Robert Marsh runs a Site where he provides the best in mobility aids including mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, rollators, lifts, lift chairs and beds and much more. For some it may be just a temporary hurdle, while for others it could be a permanent situation. In either case, its very crucial in deciding on what type of device that you choose!

The traditional decision is to go with wheelchairs. Wheelchairs can come as Manuel products which the user moves thru wheel rims or a lever. Or there is also electric wheelchairs which are powered by rechargeable batteries.

The second kind of similar mobility device is mobility scooters. These look like what you would call a scooter but function like a wheelchair. They come in two forms, a Class 2 on-road type and a Class 2 on-pavement type.

So how do you find out which of these mobility aids is the right one for you?

Well you need to ask these 5 questions...

1. Is there the possibility you will need to stay in your device for long periods of the day? If you find this true then the wheelchair is the one for you because it offers the best support for the head, neck, feet and torso..

2. Do you have the overall strength to power the device? If you don't you will need an electric wheelchair or mobility scooter!

3. Are you able to sit upright easily on your own? The scooter's tiller steering mechanism demands unsupported upright posture. It also needs some strength in the shoulder and hands as well as the upper-body. If you can't sit upright easily then a wheelchair device might better suit you! !.

4. What is the type of terrain that you will need to traverse over? Mobility Scooters may have difficulty covering some kinds of surfaces. Whereas electric wheelchairs and manual wheelchairs could be of better use in certain circumstances.

5. Finally, is there a possibility you will be traveling a lot via air or train? Mobility Scooters are lighter but wheelchairs can fold up pretty conveniently!

Hope this helps in making your decision a little easier! Disabled people really need to take a hard look at this important issue concerning mobility products and mobility aids! ! And be sure to ask these specific questions before a purchase is made!

Robert Marsh runs an Online Business that Centers around the special and unique needs for people with disabling challenges. Before buying mobility scooters, as with any other product, it is best to get educated on the various brand names in the market, their features and their functions.

The biggest of names among the mobility scooter manufacturers are Pride, Golden Technologies, Pacesaver, Rascal, Invacare and Sunrise Medical. Each brand has its own unique strong points and weak points to consider when looking for a mobility scooter.

Pride mobility scooters are usually considered to be the best in the three- and four-wheel category. They are very good for internal as well as external use and are easy to maneuver. However, one off-putting factor is the high price of Pride scooters.

Similarly, Pacesaver scooters are also top-notch. Owners of Pacesavers vouch for their reliability and after-sales service provided by the company. Pacesaver scooters are also quite user-friendly, in that they have their levers placed in highly convenient positions on the tiller so that maneuverability is easy.

Golden Technologies are known for innovations in their products. They have an auto shutdown mechanism in their scooters, which saves their battery life. They are built for sturdy all-terrain use, though priced quite high.

Invacare scooters are considered to be good on even, hard terrain - there are faults associated with their movement on soft or uneven ground. Some of their versions have faulty rear fork lifts, which make the scooters give a bumpy ride. However, most of these setbacks have been corrected in their new Zoom series.

Mobility Scooters provides detailed information on Mobility Scooters, Electric Mobility Scooters, Used Mobility Scooters, Mobility Scooter Reviews and more. Mobility Scooters is affiliated with Cheap Motor Scooters.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jason_Gluckman

(Topics Included are mobility scooter, electric wheelchairs, mobility aids, stair lifts ) no

Mobility Scooter Covers- A Much Overlooked Issue !!

(Resources for mobilty scooters, electric wheelchairs, mobility scooter )

Mobility scooters have really afforded many people an independent lifestyle which they can live a more fulfilled Life. Recently, it has really become popular in the United States. They can be best described as a regular Walker that is taken to the next level. There are 4 tires that replace the two small wheels and two posts of the walker. The handles of a rollator have neat things like caliper brakes. You see these on things like ten speed bicycles. And you just squeeze these hand brakes and it will lock the wheels in place or release them to continue walking forward.

A Rollator also has a large basket for storage purposes and usually contains a canvas seat and back between the handles. You will use this seat to take short breaks whenever you deem it necessary. The storage area of rollators are usually more spacious than the storage basket of the standard walker. They are also collapsible which makes it easy to fold and store at your convenience. Standars walkers are not nearly as compact as this.

There are not many disadvantages to rollators. Mostly advantages !
Rollators tend to bear the user's weight at the level around the hips. This can take much of the stress off the ankles and knees when you are walking. There is one problem with this though. With the weight bearing you are more limited in ranges of motion over time. A Rollator allows its owner to change direction more conveniently. But unfortunately, it doesn't always encourage the natural muscle mechanics that you use to walk. This may be an indication that patients facing short term disabilities may be better suitable for crutches or just a standard walker.
And those that have more long term issues might be better off choosing a rollator.

(Topics Related mobility scooters, mobility scooter, mobility products, rollators, mobility aids, electric wheelchairs )o

Choosing the Right Electric Wheelchair Provider for You.....

(Filed under elecric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, electric wheelchair, medical scooter, powered wheelchairs )

When looking into power wheelchairs like any other product on the market there are no two alike. They may have similarities, but they are not exactly the same. The same can be said for the users; there are no two users just alike either. So when you are shopping for a power wheelchair you don't want to make the mistake of thinking that power wheelchairs are "one size fits all". That is the wrong attitude to take to the provider because just as the power wheelchairs they offer, there are no two providers just alike either. You are better off staying away from providers who have a sales environment. They may just want to put you into a chair and don't really care it is the right chair for your needs. You want a provider who has the atmosphere of a professional guide for the consumer. These providers will help the user understand their needs and the best power wheelchair that can meet their needs. You want a provider that seems to have a wealth of knowledge and experience in choosing the right chair for the user. To do this they will get to know you and ask you questions about your lifestyle and what you need from the power wheelchair. You will know all about the chairs and will be well informed, which will help you make the best decision on a power chair that best suits your needs.

Some will say that you need to find a provider who has the skills of a professional with the heart of a teacher. You might think that finding a professional with the heart of a teacher would be a difficult task. Actually it might really be easier than you think. These types of people are not that rare as long as you know what to look for.
(Article Tags include elecric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, electric wheelchair, medical scooter, powered wheelchairs )

Disabled people are among many professional from doctors to therapists. These doctors and therapists will have the best interest of their patient in the forefront of their minds when dealing with them. It is natural for the newly disabled person to see the selection of a power wheelchair as part of the medical process. It is easy for them to assume that all power wheelchair providers are like the doctors and therapists and have their best interest at heart. Some providers do have the customer's best interest at heart, but some do not because providing power wheelchairs is a business. So it is important for the person looking for a power wheelchair to go into the shopping process with an open mind and a wary eye.

When looking for a provider, you can find recommendations from medical professionals or disabled friends, however you may have to resort to the yellow pages of your local phone book. Don't avoid looking for a provider from the phone book, but you will look at them just as you will all the others, which is as a possible provider who must go through your screening process.

As you are talking to a potential power wheelchair provider, the first thing you will want to look for is a professional certification. Just as a doctor or lawyer have certifications; you will want your provider to have a certification also. These rehab providers must meet a certain criteria in order to receive the certifications. They may be certified by Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America as an Assistive Technology Supplier, and an Assistive Technology Practitioner. These are two professional standards that is a sign of competence.
Once you have established their professional certification, arrange for an initial consultation to discuss your needs. The provider will discuss at length your disability and lifestyle during the consultation. They may even complete a client history survey, which will include extensive background information, so they can best understand your needs.

If you have a power wheelchair provider that steers you straight to a particular model without asking questions, this is a provider you will want to avoid. It does not matter how knowledgeable they may sound. The fact is they no absolutely nothing about you or your needs. The only knowledge they have is about the chair and it capabilities. Dealing with this type of provider you could possibly end up with an inappropriate power wheelchair for you and your needs, and you may run the risk of having no support after the sale. In other words, if they act like a salesman, they probably are and you need to walk away.

http://www.mobilitywheelsonline.com is a website providing you detailed information and the lowest prices on power wheelchairs also known as Electric wheelchair, Electric Mobility Scooters and Traditional wheelchairs.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Chris_I

(Topics Related elecric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, electric wheelchair, medical scooter, powered wheelchairs )no

So Why has the Theme of this Blog Shifted more Towards Mobility Scooters and Electric Wheelchairs and Away from Making Money ??

(Filed under mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, mobility aids )

Well, in the last 6 months or so a few of our readers here at MoneyforDisabled.com have asked why the shift in focus on Mobility Aids away making money ??

Well, actually there was NO conscious decision on my behalf myself to do this. Rather, it was a gradual and natural evolution that took place on this Blog without any intent on my part.

I think the main reason is the fact I witnessed a demand when I begin to see some of my Readers send me Private Messages on questions concerning devices like mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs. I began to see an overall demand for more resources and information about mobility aids. So consequently. I decided to talk about this topic more at this Blog.

Of course , we will still continue to have the resources on making money on the right side of this Blog. And I myself continue to make money with these free programs.

But quite honestly, we will continue to focus on what people want to hear. And right now mobility scooters, powered wheelchairs, rollators, stair lifts, walkers,etc... is what people who visit this Blog want to hear more about.

Its interesting to note that the mobility aids industry is one of the fastest growing ones in the World. Especially here in the US where we have the largest group of people, the Baby Boomers, entering the age where these devices can be of great use to their Lives.

It seems like every time I turn on the TV I see an Ad about the Hover round or Pride Mobility and the Scooter Store. And it seems like with each passing year these Commercials are popping up ore and more.

It is a multi- billion dollar industry and it does not seem to be slowing down.
In my opinion ,it is a very noble and worthy industry in the fact that it sincerely tries to improve the Lives of many people ! Providing mobility for people to get up and move around it such an important cause.

And as long as I can I plan on being right here at this Blog and giving people some decent info. and resources about living a noble, mobile Life in this World !! :)

(Topics Related mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, mobility aids )o

Electric Wheelchair or Mobility Scooter ?? Important Questions You Need to Ask to Decide !!

(Filed under mobility scooters, mobility scooter, electric wheelchair, electric wheelchairs )

Whether it is through age, disease, or accident many people will require at some point in their Life the need for mobility products and mobility aids to be able to get around in this World! For some it may be just a temporary hurdle, while for others it could be a permanent situation. In either case, its very crucial in deciding on what type of device that you choose!

(Article Tags Include mobility scooters, mobility scooter, electric wheelchair, electric wheelchairs )

(Tags Include mobility scooters, mobility scooter, electric wheelchair, electric wheelchairs )

Topics Related mobility scooters, mobility scooter, electric wheelchair, electric wheelchairs , stair lifts

Mobility Scooters are Becoming More and More Popular with the Aging of the Baby Boomers.........

(Topics Related mobility scooter, mobility scooters, medical scooters, electric wheelchairs )

The Baby Boomer phenomenon was an explosion in the Births of new babies after World War II . People went goo goo for gah gahs !! :)

Now many of those Baby Boomers have just hit the early Sixties and with the prospects of getting old comes the realization that the human body will start to deteriorate.

So obviously mobility products like electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters will find its way into the needy hands of the bodies of these aging baby boomers.

Many people who have only been window shoppers for these products from a far are now coming in and actually starting to make purchases. This according to a mobility scooter dealer. We just happen to meet up with him at his place of establishment in New York where he showed us some of the latest models from a very famous brand called Pride Mobility. They have everything from portable lightweight scooters to heavy duty scooters that many hardcore users require. There is a whole lot of demand for Pride Mobility and just scooters in general. But the funny thing is that other Brands also have sold real well this year. And we see a particular increase in demand for the lightweight scooters.

On top of this there has been an interest that has been steadily increasing as prices have plummeted in the last few years. When the US Dollar is at its weakest in relation to the Asian Currencies , then the US Brands become much more affordable.
And at the same time , insurance companies are much less willing to settle paying for an expensive Asian mobility scooter !

Its a fact now that medical scooters have gained alot of momentum and many models have completely sold out at the beginning of the year. And in a way this is a good thing. Because you can really find well kept and well run medical scooters from the nineties that are essentially as good as new. And the Price ?? Well, we are talking about a real bargain in the neighborhood of $1,000 !! :)

Mobility Scooters are definitely here to stay and we will continue to see their popularity increase as more and more people see the value that they can offer.

(Filed under mobility scooter, mobility scooters, medical scooters, electric wheelchairs, stair lifts

Being Able to Stay Mobile with Electric Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters in a very un-mobile Environment......

(Filed under mobility products, mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, mobility aids)

Unfortunately, NOT being Mobile is a part of many people's lives. When it is a part of your Life , the tables can turn as the use of electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters are a great option in helping people get around.Just because you have been plagued with an illness or injury or suffer from old age, well this doesn't mean you have to sit back and not be alive !!

There are three different mobility products that are available for those that have limited mobility. They are : power or electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters and traditional manual wheelchairs. Each one of these provide their own unique blend of mobility and movement to the person in need. Please confer with a professional for deciding which one may be best suited for you. Here are some general questions you might ask when making that decision:

- What is the distance can you go before needing assistance?

- Is the status of your Condition going to get worse with time ?

-* Will you be able to easily get into and out of the different mobility products ?

* Do you have enough upper body strength to make a manual wheelchair go ?

As you answer these questions you will find your quest to which device to use much easier. For example, if you have a lot of upper body strength then a manuel wheelchair may be the most effective and economical choice. But if your condition looks like it may get worse over a period of time, then an electric wheelchair may be the best choice for you. Now if you can walk short distances , but the longer distances are tougher then you might consider a mobility scooter.

No kind of physical condition should be allowed to prohibit mobility to the point where movement is totally lost. All individuals have a right to live Life and be able to have mobility and movement to get around and about. Thats why mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, and manual wheelchairs can be so beneficial to so many !!

(Topics Related mobility products, mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, mobility aids)

Pediatric Electric Wheelchairs and What You Need to Know about Them....

(Filed under electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids, mobility products)

Pediatric wheel chairs are fashioned much like adult wheel chairs. The number of styles, types, and colors of pediatric wheel chairs available on the market today is both comforting and overwhelming, especially to a parent trying to choose the right one.

Pediatric chairs provide independence and mobility for children with a number of physical challenges. Children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, head injuries, or who have had a limb removed all benefit greatly from a pediatric wheel chair. Some children have the option of using their wheel chair occasionally in lieu of their walker or crutches, whereas others are in a wheel chair full time.

Manual wheel chairs are most often chosen for children who have the upper body strength and dexterity to push the wheels of their own chair. Manual chairs are also a good choice if a parent or caregiver will be aiding the child with their mobility. For children physically unable to move their chair under their own strength or have severe disabilities, there are pediatric power wheel chairs available as well.

(Tags include electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids, mobility products)

Pediatric wheelchairs are categorized by a child's age, size, and physical requirements.

· Specialty Chairs - customized to fit specific needs of the child.

· Small Pediatric Chair - designed especially for children who are under six years old or younger (sometimes appear as a stroller).

· Growing Pediatric Wheelchairs - for children six years old and up; feature cross braces that can be replaced to accommodate the child as she grows.

· Sport Wheel Chairs - lightweight and colorful; allow child to participate in sports or simply for daily use.

· Standing Pediatric Wheel Chair - this uniquely styled chair allows children who have use of their legs, (but still require a wheel chair), to stand up and participate in activities or stretch out at any given time.

· Standard Pediatric Chairs - manual wheelchairs that look much like an adult chair

(Article eTags include electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids, mobility products)

A pediatric chair that grows with your child will save you money over time. Components that allow you to lengthen or widen the chair will allow you to keep the same wheel chair for as many as 10-12 years, saving you from having to invest in a brand new chair each time your child grows.

Pediatric chair frames are manufactured from steel or aluminum. The aluminum frames are lighter than their steel frame counterparts and often chosen over the steel for that very reason. Contoured seats are molded to the child to ensure that the child is secure in the chair. Safety straps or bands can be attached to a wheel chair to help keep a child with limited strength in the proper position.

There are several fun wheel chair accessories available to help your child do the things she loves. Examples might include a mount for her laptop computer, a desktop for playing cards or games, cup holders, bumper stickers, colorful tote bags to hold her cell phone and school books, seat cushion covers in bright bold colors or patterns, or spoke guards featuring colors or themes.

Choosing a pediatric wheel chair can be a long process, but once you've made the decision, you'll feel better knowing your child has the best chair to meet her physical needs. Consult with your physician and physical therapist for their recommendations on which style and chair is best for your child and her lifestyle.

(Filed under electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids, mobility products)

For more information on "Pediatric Wheel Chairs" please visit wheelchairs

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Keggy_Ambrose

Its Our One Year Anniversary at MoneyforDisabled.com !!

(Filed under mobility scooters, mobility aids, electric wheelchairs )

Wow, it is hard to believe that one year has gone by since I began this Blog. As many of you know MoeyforDisabled.com was started by myself from inspiration from the Stroke I suffered over 5 years ago. And the disabling conditions I have had to subsequently battle.

I started off concentrating on the Income side of this Blog. Bringing stories of how you can make money with free paid surveys and other at home business programs for people with disabilities.

But as time has gone by I shifted the emphasis from making money here to introducing resources for all kinds of mobility aids including mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, mobility chairs, walkers, rollators and other mobility products !

It has been a great joy to provide some assistance to those people who really need it. Lets face it Money and Mobility are two very important issues that everyone in this World can't get enough of.

Our two major themes that we will continue to empathises and stress here in the next year will be mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs. It can be attendant propelled. This kind of wheel chair is pushed by another person who is assisting the user and do not have hand rims on the large wheels. Instead, there are handles at the back of the wheel chair by which the attendant propels and controls its course.

There is also the self propelled wheel chair. It is moved and driven by its occupant. The user does this through the hand rims attached to the outside of the large wheels. The diameter of these hand rims are less than that of the wheels for greater effectiveness. By manipulating these hand rims, the user can control the speed and direction of the chair.

A seat, back rest, foot rest, and four wheels (two large rear wheels and two small front wheels) are the fundamental components of the manual wheelchair. These components are often customized according to the needs of the user. The height and size of the chair, seat, and foot rest, and the angle of the back rest can be changed. Additional features are added as necessary.

A special kind of self propelled wheel chair can be controlled from just one side. This is the one arm drive type which has two hand rims, one of which is smaller than the other, on one side of the chair; the location can be on the left or right of the chair depending on specific needs. The chair can go forward or backward by moving the two together and turn left or right when only one is moved.

(Article Tags include electric wheelchairs, mobility aids, mobility scooters )

Another means of moving a self propelled wheel chair is by the use of a lever. By pumping the lever in certain ways, the chair can be moved in any direction. For those who can not use their arms or hands, still another way of propelling is possible. This is through using one or both feet; special mechanisms are incorporated into the manual wheelchair to make manipulation by the feet possible.

There is a type of wheel chair, called the wheelbase chair, which can be specially tailored for the unique needs of users who have complicated postures. It is basically a platform with wheels to which a custom-made seat is attached. The seat of the wheelbase chair is usually molded from a cast of the user in the best seated posture that he can manage.

There is also a type of manual wheelchair that has a rigid frame, and there is a type that can be folded for easy storage. Some have back rests and foot rests that can be adjusted. There are also those that have safety belts, oxygen tank holders, drink holders, and other accessories that are specific to the needs of the users for which these are intended.

Wheelchairs can be made of various materials. The earlier types were usually made of wood. Nowadays, they are more commonly made from a combination of metals, plastics, and fabric and the wheels are very similar to those that can be seen on bicycles. The more expensive types are of lightweight materials while the less costly ones are usually made of tubular steel.

About the Author: Jannet Fararo is an expert on manuel wheelchair classifications and usage, and maintains a website which specializes in wheelchairs. In general, people who have a height of 65 inches or less should consider a scooter with a an overall length 0f 41 inches or less. So place it in a area free of moisture and extreme heat !!

Hope this helps some of you in maintaining your mobility aids and equipment.

(Topics Related electric wheelchair, mobility scooter, mobility aids, electric wheelchair lifts)

An Important Continuing Topic: Mobility Scooters vs. Electric Wheelchairs

(Filed under electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids )

Mobility aids is something in one way or the other affects all of us whether we want to admit or not. Most of the times it is through age, disease, or accident which causes many to have the need to purchase and use some sort of mobility product !!

People who experience a disability it could be just a momentary hurdle while with others it can be a more permanent situation. Whether it is one or the other, deciding what device to use to get around is very important and can be mind changing.

In the past, the most taken path people with disabilities took to go with was wheelchairs. Wheelchairs actually come in two different forms. There is the manual wheelchair which moves through thru wheel rims or even a lever. The other kind is the electric wheelchair Which is powered by rechargeable batteries.

The second other kind of similar mobility device is called mobility scooters . The funny thing is these contraptions look like what a regular scooter little jr played with as a kid. But it functions like an electric wheelchair. They come in two forms, a Class 2 on-road type and a Class 2 on-pavement type.

So now that we have identified these two types of mobility products how do you know which one is best for you ??
Here is a few questions that you really need to ask..........

First of all, what is the possibility that you will be required to stay in your mobility device for an extended period of time ? Is there that reality that you will need to remain in your device for a large quantity of the day ?? If you sincerely see this as a possibility then the electric wheelchair or manual wheelchair is the right one for you. The reason being is that it offers the very best support for head, neck , feet and torso.

Another question you need to ask is whether you have the overall strength and physical fitness to actually power the mobility aid ?? Do have the overall strength to power the device. If you do not have the power do this then you will need a electric wheelchair or mobility scooter. dont you will need a powered wheelchair or mobility scooter !

Here are some more questions............
Can you sit at a upright position on your very own ??

And is it easy for you to be able to sit upright ?? The steering mechanism of a scooter demands that you have unsupported upright posture. You are also going to need some strength in your shoulder and the hands area as well as in your upper chest area !!

You will also need to ask what is the type of terrain you will be travelling over ? It is a fact that mobility scooters will have some problems covering some kinds of surfaces.

Finally you will need to ask whether it will be likely that you will be travelling through the Air or on the Railroads ?? Mobility Scooters are lighter but wheelchairs can fold up pretty nicely and makes things more convenient !!

Both mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs have been a godsend to many. Mobility aids like this are very important in many peoples' lives. It can determine whether or not these people have fulfilling and quality lives or not !!

Hope this helps in making your decision a little easier !

(Topics related electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids)

Wheelchair Ramps can be Life Saving to Many................

(Filed under wheelchair ramps, wheelchair ramp, electric wheelchairs , stair lifts)

So what is exactly a wheelchair ramp ?? Well, the wheelchair ramp is an inclined plane that is used with or in addition to regular stairs. In recent times, it has been a true Godsend to many people who have to rely on mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs for their means of transportation. I know of several close friends and family who without these devices would have a quality of Life that would be so much more less !! Wheelchair ramps two decades ago were virtually unheard of. People with disabilities were just flat out of luck in many places where steps were the only option. What wheelchair ramps do is permit manual and electric wheelchair users to access buildings or houses where they could not do before. Also people pushing strollers, carts or other wheeled devices get the benefit of these ramps !

Wheelchair ramps come in a large array of styles and each is intended for a different purpose. Basically, there are 3 different types of wheelchair ramps. The first one is known as the permanent ramp. It is designed and intended to be bolted or cemented to secure it. The second is the semi-permanent ramps . They rest on the topside of the ground or on a cement pad. They are used for temporary purposes. Lastly ,are the portable ramps which are very light and usually made of aluminum. They fold up for easy transportation.

Ramps must be meticulously designed in order achieve utility. It's a fact that many areas of the Country have established standards and certain specifications for permanent wheelchair ramps that must be followed. An example would be in some places it is required to have a width of at least 36 inches for a wheelchair ramp with the slope not being steeper than 1 inch of rise for every 12 inches of length. A rise that is less steep makes it easier for a wheelchair user to maneuver around. And is safer in icy and frigid conditions !

Thank goodness for the Americans with Disabilities Act. This makes it mandatory for ALL public building and facilities to have wheelchair lifts and wheelchair ramps and any other devices to help people with disabilities to take advantage of and be able to access a facility !

On a personal note my Uncle was a quadriplegic who contracted Polio in the early
60's. He used an electric wheelchair for many, many years and I can still remember clearly seeing him get up to his wheelchair stair lifts on his accessible van and go into work as an Internist at the local Hospital. He was a very big inspiration to me and my family. I am just so proud to live in a Country where we have been continually adding new facilities like stair lifts and wheelchair ramps to building and facilities to make it easier for people with disabilities like my Uncle !!

(Topics Related wheelchair ramps, wheelchair ramp, electric wheelchairs , stair lifts)

Factors to Consider when choosing Electric Wheelchairs........

(Filed under electric wheelchair, mobility aids, electric wheelchairs )

Today, I want to rehash an important topic here at our Blog.
There are some important factors that you really need to consider before choosing a manual wheelchair or electric wheelchair supplier !!

It is a pure and simple fact that there are two types of suppliers you have to deal with when talking about mobility aids. The first kind is the ones that are currently participating and then there are those who are enrolled but have decided not to participate.

Those Suppliers that are participating must really accept Assignment. What this means is that they agree to accept a pre-set fee for the wheelchair or electric wheelchair . And it is mandatory they can not charge more than the Medicare allowed billing.
You must also realize that a Supplier who is Medicare approved and decides not to participate can charge more than the actual Medicare approved amount. But also realize that they may under no circumstance charge more than 15% above the approved Medicare amount. And it also may be a requirement that you may have to pay the complete bill when you pick up the electric wheelchair. If by some chance this does occur, Medicare will send the reimbursement directly to you. However, do not be surprised if you have to wait around for a few months before you receive this full payment.

You really need to take in to consideration if you receive your Medicare coverage through a Medicare Advantage Plan such as a PPO or HMO, it is more than likely that the Plan will have its own specifications for the purchase ! And with this Plan there could be some restrictions on the Provider from which you purchase from. Also realize that your Health Plan must meet the levels of supply to at least what Medicare covers. It cannot be lower than this. Depending what Plan you are enrolled under, you could in fact receive more coverage with the Plan you are already with than you could receive with Medicare . It really is important and just good business sense to call your Medicare Advantage Plan's customer service and ask about your coverage before ordering any electric wheelchairs.

This process is a time consuming one that can be difficult and frustrating at times. But remember it is also a very important issue because for many it can be the difference between a Life full of free mobility or a Life full of Limitations.
So take your time and be sure to do your homework and investigate to see what is your best alternative.

Here at MoneyforDisabled.com we try to bring you all the facts and all the timely information that will make it easier for you to make an informed issues about mobility aids and which one is best for you !!

(Topics Related electric wheelchair, mobility aids, electric wheelchairs )

What is the Normal Ranges for Medical Scooters and the Different Types....

(Filed under medical scooters, mobility scooters, mobility aids)

The typical range of medical scooters or mobility scooters depends upon several factors. The factors include users of the medical scooter's weight, the ground level, distances needed to be traveled and temperature all can have an effect on the life of the battery. In normal circumstances it will go anywhere from 5-25 miles on just one charge. However, you can get Batteries that will extend this charge. Almost all medical scooters will have a battery that will charge overnight which is approximately 6 to 9 hours !!.

The powered medical scooter has really become an effective and efficient alternative to the electric wheelchair !! Its one of the most popular mobility aids ever !! In the early days of medical scooters they were tiny , front-wheel drive models that were designed for the main use being indoors. They had very limited range and power !!
In the new models they offer much greater range and the unique ability to drive over very adverse terrain. Most mobility scooters have a very wide range of options. You just need to look and evaluate them and decide which is most appropriate for you.

Different Types of Medical Scooters

1. 3 Wheeled Medical Scooters - These type of electric scooters are the most maneuverable and the most flexible on the market. If you have a very small Living space or need to constantly squeeze in tight places to get around then these scooters are probably the best for you. The have a really high degree of radius in their turn which really allow them to make most turns that 4 wheeled scooters can simply Not !!

2.4 Wheeled Mobility Scooters - Okay, say you have a large Living space with easy to maneuver areas to get around in ?? Well, then the 4 wheeled scooter would probably be your best bet to go with. It is simply designed for more general stability and less for maneuverability. It's definitely not better for those tight spaces but it is really great for outdoor use !

3.Fold Up Medical Scooters - Say you are a person dealing with a disability but still like to take trips or find it a necessity to take long trips ?? Well, then fold up mobility scooters are probably going to help you out in these circumstances. They are specifically designed for those who take long . frequent trips. They are a Godsend to many and really assists people to continue on with their normal Lives even with a debilitating condition.

We hope this helps give you a little insight into mobility scooters and the different types available.

In recent years they have been life changing products to many with an long term affliction and disability !! :)

(Topics Related medical scooters, mobility scooters, mobility aids)

When do you need the use of stair lifts and wheelchair lifts ??

(Filed under stair lifts, wheelchair lifts, electric wheelchairs )

Each and every year more and more individuals are unfortunately finding themselves becoming disabled and handicapped !! As the Baby Boomers age, we will continue to see this dramatic increase in the amount of people who are becoming unable to get around because of their disability !

As many people start to get older and older in this group, we will find that stair lifts and wheelchair lifts will become increasingly popular !

A stair lift is a device that is mechanical by nature and is designed to for lifting people/wheelchairs up and down a flight of chairs. In many cases when the stairs are very wide, a rail is put in and mounted on the threads of the stairs. And a chair or lifting platform is connected to the rail. Then at this point a individual on the chair is lifted as te chair moves directly along the rail !!

Here is some interesting facts.............Stair lifts are also known by several, different names! A few are chair lifts, stair gliders, wheelchair lifts and by other names. Incidentally, this chair lift is not to be confused with the one's skiers use.

Here is a little background : Some of the first stair lifts to be produced commercially were advertised and sold in the USA during the time of the 1930s. The Company that produced and sold them was called the Inclinator Company of America.

Electric wheelchairs came into existence by a inventor named George Klein.

There are three general styles of electric wheelchairs that are available: they are rear, center, front wheel driven or four wheel driven. Each style has its own personality. Each style has particular handling characteristics. They are also divided by the kind of seat type; some models resemble manual chairs, with a sling-style seat and frame. Others Will have what they call a'captain's chair'. It is seating much similar to that of a car.

Electric wheelchairs may be designed specifically just for indoor use or outdoor use, or even both. They will be generally prescribed by a Doctor. And this prescription is intended for people who have difficulty with a manual wheelchair. This may be due to leg, arm, hand,or shoulder disabling conditions.
And many times they will be issued to those who have Heart conditions and troubles ! A individual who has complete function of the upper torso and arms will in general be prescribed a manual wheelchair. Most times insurance will NOT cover an electric wheelchair .

Electric wheelchairs, stair lifts, an wheelchair lifts are devices that have become in many cases a necessity for certain individuals. Without them, these people's lives would be much different. They really enable them to have fuller more independent lives !!

(Topics Related stair lifts, wheelchair lifts )
