Every one of those websites also has to have web design to it.

When looking to set up a website, it is important to look for web design and hosting packages.

When the two are put together like this, the price tends to be lower than if the two parts were purchased separate of one another. This is why the smart website creator will make sure to wait until one of these packages comes along that is set at a fair price.

The first host that comes along is not always the one to select. There is a chance that the host will not always have all of the right features. It also may not be at the right price to make it affordable.

Instead, it is wise to wait until all of the stars align to get the right package at the right price with the right host.

A website that has been created without some of these elements will immediately being to show flaws. People will not want to visit such a website, and the whole thing will be a disaster. It is nice though when it all comes together perfectly and people actually take the time to visit the website. 

I feel like having been invited to a birthday party, and having fun, drinking cocoa and eating cake while holding nice pink balloons in my hand, and then all of a sudden the moon rises and the hosts show their true and ugly faces.

Soon the party isn’t funny, and you feel like taking part in a horror movie.

Beaten up, your money stolen, you decide to leave as fast as  you can. But how?

So many questions pop up in your head: What if I move the content of my lens and delete it… Will it still show up in Google? And will Google punish me for duplicate content?

And where do I move my lenses to? How do I do it?

Or maybe you’re still in doubt… Should you just come through this bad situation and start building lenses as soon as the storm has passed?

Are People Giving Up Too Fast?

In one the Facebook Squidoo groups I’m member of, the leader wrote that she was certain that Squidoo – like a submarine – would emerge again later.

I don’t think so. I think it’s a sinking ship, and I’m abandoning. Like the man in this picture above me seems to be doing

I believe that if you’re in something, it has to be something you will stand for.

I will not stand for the way Squidoo HQ is treating people like criminals. This is what they wrote to me when they locked my lens about creating Amazon HTML links (without warning, of course…):

You’re getting this note because one or more of your lenses is in violation of our Terms of Service and SquidDon’t policy, as well as in violation of the Terms of Service of our advertising partners.

And they continue:

We hope you can understand that every free platform needs a system of checks and balances to keep it working and successful for its community. Fortunately, 99% of our members have no trouble with this policy and are thriving on the site.

Did you get that? 99% of their members have no trouble with this policy. Only YOU, you filthy scumbag!

And all the money that lens has made has been “defaulted to charity”. Stolen, in other words.

Can I live with these conditions? Yes, but I will not. And especially, because I know that these actions have hurt a lot of good and hard-working lensmasters.

I have places to take my lenses. I can live without the $8 or so Squidoo stole from me. But other people have put so much energy and hope into Squidoo. And that’s what I’ll not be a part of: Stealing away people’s dreams.

That sucks!

Where to Move Your Lenses

The best place to move your lenses to is your own blog. On your own server. But even if you have many blogs, like I have, there are probably some that are outside the topics of these blogs.

You could create a new, if you have many lenses about a single topic. I did that for my cat lenses, which I’m moving now.

Other options are HubPages (not a good option – they are even more strict than Squidoo), Zujava, Weebly, Wizzley, Tumblr, Fancy, RedGage, Blogger, Mahalo, and for short texts Bubblews.

How to Save the Content of Your Lenses

I wish there were an easy way to do this, but I haven’t found any. These three ways might help you, though:

• Open your locked lens in Edit mode, and click on Save lens text to your computer at the bottom right side. This feature might come from Squidutils, so if you don’t have it, sign up with them, first.
• Get an add-on for Firefox called ScrapBook, and quick save your lenses with that.
• Open each module and copy the HTML code into a new text file.

Duplicate Content?

I’m no SEO expert, haha, far from, so what I’m about to tell you might be wrong.

I got this question from a fellow lensmaster:

If you move the content that quickly, do you run the risk of duplicate content on your blog somehow?

And this was my answer:

Good question. Since I deleted the lens, it doesn’t show the “this lens belongs to a criminal. we’ve removed it and stolen her money” page it used to. If I use the link, it goes to a 404 page.

So I just did a search on Google, and it still shows the Squidoo version in the results. I clicked through and got the 404 page (error page).

This means that Google – if it could think – would go: Hm… It seems like this Squidoo thingy has messed up its links and pages. I don’t like that. I’ll punish them.

Especially if they have many error pages.

That’s one of the arguments Squidoo has been using against us for flagging lenses: If you link don’t work, they claimed that they would be punish. And I believe them in this case.

At this moment, Google hasn’t seen my new placement, so it’s not in its index.

But when it does find it, it might show both versions for a short while.

And this is NOT duplicate content.

Duplicate content in the eyes of Google is only when you have the same content several times on the same location – like if I posted that guide on several blog posts on GetMoneyMakingIdeas.

I’ll ask a real SEO expert and see what he thinks about it.

What You Should Do Now

You basically have two options:

• You can stay with Squidoo, show a low profile, hope and pray that they don’t lock your best performing lenses and steal your money, and then start creating new high quality lenses according to their standards, when the storm have blown over. Let me give you an example of a purple star lens, by the way, so you know what to aim for… http://www.squidoo.com/doctorwhobedroomDon’t worry about keyword stuffing. That lens is performing well, and the keyword “dr who” is mentioned 239 times (thanks Anna).
• Or you could move away, copy and paste your best lenses to other sites, and delete your lenses as soon as possible. That way, you returning the favor to Squidoo, who chose to punish you for working hard for them. When Google finds lots of 404 pages, they’ll know something is wrong with the webmaster at the main domain: Squidoo.

I’m taking the second route. What about you?

So I decided to move it overhere, where I don’t “violate” any rules or otherwise behave like a criminal.

Want Your Own Amazon Affiliate Links?

Squidoo has made it really easy for us to make money through Amazon’s affiliate program. You don’t even have to be signed up for. You can just use Squidoo’s own link and make (roughly) 4.25% commission of every sale.

First Things First: Join the Amazon Associates Program 

If you want your own Amazon affiliate link, you will have to sign up as an associates first.

If you’re already a customer at Amazon.com, you can use your existing e-mail address and password to sign up with.It’s free, and you can do it here: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/

Then you’re given an affiliate ID, which will be your username-20. You can use that one for affiliate links, or you can make extra tracking IDs so you’ll know more about where you’re making money.

Associates Site Stripe

Amazon makes it really easy for you to grab your affiliate link, check how much money you’ve made and more.

All you have to do is to make sure that the “Associates Site Stripe” is turned on.

After you’ve joined as an associate, you can log in, and click on Account Settings in your top right corner of the screen.

Then click on the link called “Associates Site Stripe Options”.

Display Status must show “On”. If it doesn’t, then hit the button and turn it on.

Grab the Link and the ASIN

There are two ways you can add use your own Amazon associates account on Squidoo.

One is by using an ordinary link, either in HTML code or by adding it to a field in your workshop. The other is by using the ASIN from Amazon.

I’ll show you both ways.

When you’ve found a product, you’ll have access to both link and ASIN.

You get the link by clicking on “Link to this page”, and you can find and copy the ASIN from the address bar in your browser (second arrow in this picture).

Quick Way to Get the Link

After you’ve clicked on “Link to this page”, you will see a popup window with two or three tabs.

I always click on the tab named “Image only” to get the link.

Then I right-click on the image, and choose “Copy Link Location”.

After I’ve done that, I have the link captured in my clipboard, ready to use. You can paste it with Ctrl+V to the location where you need it.

HTML: How Does a Link Look Like?

The structure of a link is simple.

You have a tag called “a” where you link to the URL (the address) inside with the help of the code “href”.

Then you have to decide what will be shown on the site as an “anchor text” or even a picture.

Finally, you have to stop the “a” tag by using the “end” code for it.

You start the tag by writing <a etc> and you end it by writing </a>

In between, you have the anchor text, which is the text that will be visible in the browser.

So, if your affiliate link was “http://amazon.com/mylink”, then your full code should look like in the picture. I’ll add it here, too, as text, so you can copy from it.

Avoid Google Penalties

Important: If you want to avoid Google penalties, you need to add one thing more to your HTML code.

You need to tell Google NOT to follow the link. And you do that by adding this:

rel=”nofollow”

The full tag:

<a href=”http://amazon.com/mylink” rel=”nofollow”>anchor text</a>

SquidCrafter – Click, Copy & Paste

If you want it to be super-easy and with many possibilities, you should get SquidCrafter.

You can add your Amazon affiliate ID to the program (even use more than one tracking ID, if you need), and then you can browse Amazon in the built-in browser and just click to add products.

And I’m going to create a product in a niche where I’ve only written blog posts and articles. I’ve never made a product there, except for two bribe freebies.

This will make it a challenge for me, too.

And stepping outside your comfort zone is always good.

So the first step for me will be to find out which question my new audience are burning to find an answer to. I will do the necessary research to discover what it is they really want.

Because have you noticed this? People buy what they want. Not always what they need, but what they want. So that’s why I’m starting there.

When I’ve discovered their “wants”, I’ll write the sales letter. This is a challenge I’ve come to love. I used to hate copywriting, because scared me. And also because I’m a perfectionist. I want it right and perfect the first time.

That’s the wrong approach to it.

Now I know that I have to write something that I can edit and improve.

That removes the pressure, and I really find words fascinating, and how they can be used to create an emotion, or to make people do something.

Copywriting is not just selling. It’s charming with your words. It’s making an audience take action.

I think that many people see copywriting as something evil. Like it’s a tool you use to force people to  pay for stuff they don’t need.

It’s not so.

You’ve been using copywriting in a verbal shape since you were born. You cried, and hopefully your parents took action and gave you a clean diaper, or fed you, or just hugged you and were there for you.

Later on, you began to get smarter with words.

I remember when my son was five, he always asked a lot of questions like:

- Mom, how do you make a little sister?

- What’s for dinner? (approximately 360 times that year).

And this one:

- Mom, what’s a late night snack?

Since I always answered him patiently, and even looked up things if necessary, I also gave him a longer explanation about late night snacks. To that, he said:

- Mom, don’t you think we should take a late night snack? I need something to sink my teeth into, a bone to gnaw…

Oh, yes, you probably knew a lot about “copywriting” when you were a child. And you probably also do that now. So don’t let that part of product creation scare you.

Learn as much as you can, but in tiny bites, and then practice as much as you can.

I’ve been looking for alternatives. I didn’t want them to be more expensive (I paid $15 per month for AWeber), just as stable, and I wanted to be able to use my own HTML-code, and not some autoresponder’s clumsy code.

Another marketer started to use Sendy, and I was intrigued. So four days ago, I purchased and installed the mailer. Yes, it’s installed on your own server, which put me off when I read that, BUT it uses a stable service to send out mails: Amazon SES.

This is all still very new to me, so I wanted to make this blog post, because I know from experience that in a few weeks, I will not be able to remember the questions I had to begin with. So follow me on this journey, if you’re interested in an autoresponder, but don’t want to pay $60 per month to have one.

Installation of Sendy

Most of this was pretty easy to do, because I knew how to set up a MySQL database with CPanel, and how to upload files and stuff. I had to ask my husband to help me with some DNS changes I didn’t get. You have to do that where you bought your domain, not where you host them.

If these technical things are not your strong side, the people behind Sendy can install the script for free. So don’t let this stop you from starting to build a list.

I didn’t encounter any errors or problems (besides from the DNS I didn’t know) while installing.

Connection with Amazon SES

You can send the mails through your web host, but I don’t recommend that. It’s slower, and you can easily get into trouble, if you send out too many emails. Instead, I recommend that you go with Amazon SES (I think is the name), which is a very low-priced system. You can send out several thousand mails for a few dollars per month.

I followed the getting started with Sendy guide, got the right link to Amazon, joined, upgradet (for free) and everything went smoothly and fast.

I’m not allowed to send out 10,000 mails per day, 5 per second. This can be further upgradet, as far as I understood, but I don’t need so at the moment.

Setting Up the First Brand, Campaign and List

Okay, so far, so good.

The Sendy start guide told me to start out with a Brand and that a brand was:

Let’s just say you own this company called Widgets Inc. And, you have several products under it. These several “child” products are what we refer to as ‘brands’. With brands, you can also setup accounts for each of your clients. Optionally send them a password to login and send newsletters on their own at a price you set.

Okay, so I created a new brand with the creative name Test. I guess that I can compare that to a List on AWeber? Or maybe not…

Next, Sendy tells me that I have no Campaigns. Now, what’s a Campaign?

I have no idea, so I’ve just asked on the forum what the connection is between a Brand, a Campaign and a List, which is the next item to take care of.

I clicked to start a new Campaign.

Oh, wait, that’s a mail I’m starting on now?

Nice and easy user interface, but I still don’t know what a Campaign is in relation to the other parts.

It’s easy to create a mail here, and I can use my own HTML code, yeah! You can make such code with editors like CompoZer or similar program.

So I skip that for now and go to Lists.

After I’ve clicked on View All Lists, I get to Subscriber List and can add a new one. Okay, so I guess this is the list members here.

I make one called TestList (yeah, I know… where do I get all those brilliant names? Mere talent.)

And then I added list members, myself with email 1, and myself with email 2.

So far so good.

Autoresponders

There’s a difference between broadcasts and autoresponders.

A broadcast is sent immediately. An autoresponder can drip content over a period.

Autoresponders can be found here under Lists.

I had to set up a chron job in the CPanel to make it work. It only took a minute, but again, if you’re not technically, you have to ask them to do this while they are installing your script. Or maybe they just do it without being asked.

This is where Sendy gets better than AWeber, at least in the version I have. You can choose to send out immediately after someone signs up, or x minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months. AWeber can only handle Days.

I Think I Understand the Connection Now

I knew it would help to write about it And I think I got it now.

A Brand is like a List on AWeber, for example people who bought my ebook about “Blue Banana Peel”.

A Campaign is a broad cast. Something you can send out NOW or later, but only send once, and to people who are members of the List.

List is the members, those who receive the Campaigns and the Autoresponder series, which can also be found under Lists.

I have asked on the forum if this is how it is, and I’ll get back and update this blog post, when I know for certain.

I like it! I see some possibilities I didn’t have with AWeber. I also see some minor adjustments I have to make. I definitely like the price! $59 one time, and then $1 to send 10,000 mails per month. I don’t think it gets cheaper.

I will start setting up and importing real lists and see how this turns out. If they cannot solve any problems I might encounter, they promise to refund.

The first book is written by my friend Chris Naish. And it offers an interesting method to come up with long tail keywords for articles, domains, blog posts… Long tail keywords are keyphrases that consists of several words, thus limiting the number of monthly searches, but targeting the audience with almost laser focus. What’s the Problem With Most Review Sites/Lenses?

According to Chris (and I agree), you have the following problem:

Say you’ve got a blog or a Squidoo lens about coffee makers, which is a good choice because it’s evergreen with high priced products and not too many fads.

Normal thinking would just to be fill it up with links to coffee makers all over Amazon and then hope to make some sales. It may work for a few purchases here and there but ultimately it’s not a good long term strategy.

It’s also just going to make your blog look like a random affiliate site with little, to no informative content for the visitor and simply shows that you’re not really doing much research either.

The solution is simple. And it’s beautiful

Background – Why Am I Reviewing Easy Paycheck Formula 2 by Sara Young

My first contact with Sara Young dates back to 2010, where she launched the first version of Easy Paycheck Formula. I got a review copy in good time before the launch, so I had time to test what she taught. I made one campaign, following her blueprint, but I didn’t really think it would make me any money, to be honest.

It was so simple and easy… It just couldn’t work.

To my huge surprise, it not only worked, but it did so fast and repeatedly. That little campaign that took me one hour in total to set up made money within a few days, and it keps making me a few dollars monthly and still does.

I believed then that Sara Young has one of the best products to teach you about affiliate marketing out there, and I’ve recommended it to a lot of people. After reading and watching her material, I’m convinced that there should be no problems with Squidoo, as long as you write your own texts and don’t use duplicate content.

I’m following Sara’s guidelines at the moment, building a lens with her method, and should anything go wrong (which I don’t imagine), then I can move the content to one of my own blogs. If you don’t have a blog, you can move it from Squidoo to elsewhere, for example Blogger.com.

To summon it up: Easy Paycheck Formula is an affiliate marketing course that shows step-by-step how to pick a niche and a product that is almost guaranteed to make you money.

What Awaits You Inside the Member’s Area

While I was working at the “pick a product” part, I noticed something funny about the way I worked.

I wrote down what Sara said and the criteria a product should meet. Then I decided on a product, and I tried to make the criteria fit Like if I’d chosen a square block, and the criteria was that it should be able to squeeze it through a circular hole, then I would just tend to skip the information I got about that not being possible.

I was a subscriber to Depositphotos for a while, but I rarely used the five daily pictures, so I took a break. Those pictures were of a very high quality, and I could almost always find what I wanted. But it was still $60 per months…

And then there are free pictures. You can go to Flickr and find pictures, but make sure you’re allowed to use them, and you will also have to link to the person who took the picture. I’ve done that in the past, but honestly… the quality is not that good. You don’t see stockphotos among them.

And at the end of the book, you get a list with links to all ten places, so you easily can get there in the future.

This book is great, if you want pictures to use as illustrations or to share on popular social sites. It’s well-written. Easy to understand. Highly inspiring.
