Nashville and QuiltCon

2019-02-28T08:48:00.001-08:00

So last Friday we got up early and headed to Nashville for QuiltCon 2019. What a fun weekend we had! Not only our first trip to QuiltCon, but also it has been awhile since we had visited Nashville...like probably around 25 years! Lol!

Here are a few yummy pictures from the show!

Beautiful wool quilts!

2019-02-11T10:18:00.001-08:00

Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a good start! If Monday is a bummer, then let me try to uplift you with some inspirational quilts!

This quilt had a neat setting that I wanted to highlight. Lots of open background space is a great way to display some quilting designs.

Here is how the whole quilt looked when finished.

I sort of created a border for the quilt with the quilting design.

Here, you can see one side and how the design melts in with the background quilting around the wool vases.

Another view of the quilt.

Here the border is getting worked into the background.

And finally, a picture of the whole quilt finished! It turned out quite nice!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

2019-02-08T10:53:00.001-08:00

Here we are again with some really cold temperatures! I think snow is beautiful, it is nice to have a change of seasons, however, I just don’t think I will ever be a fan of super cold weather. Anyway, let’s enjoy some more beautiful pictures of quilts!

This quilt was so cool! All those thousands of squares!!!

In the center, I quilted some floral type of free-motion designs.

This is a picture of how I do my feathers. People often think they look complicated, but when you see how it is just a simple curve for the spine and loops it is very simple!

There was this lighter area that acted as a frame and gave your eye somewhere to land, so I decided a feather would be a soft, pleasant design to look at.

Here you can see the feather and inside floral design next to each other. Hope you are staying warm!

The past couple of years...

2019-02-05T07:45:00.000-08:00

So, Like I said, I haven’t done a great job of keeping the blog going, so I will be adding some more pictures of the quilts I did and took pictures of. This is a beautiful wool appliqué quilt that I did for a sweet friend. Her work is wonderful and she is a master of appliqué!

Today’s quilt

2019-02-04T11:31:00.001-08:00

This weekend I put this one on the machine. It is a beautiful customer quilt. I am super excited to see how it turns out. So far I am loving how it looks! I don’t have the hours each day that I once did for quilting, but I do the best I can with the time I have. I love having the freedom to add to people’s works of art. I am looking forward to adding to my own quilts someday!😉

I’m BACK!!!😁

2019-01-31T20:10:00.000-08:00

Hello again! Sorry I have been away so long! I have gone back to teaching school full-time, I now have two teenagers and one with a driver’s license (another in driver’s ed!)! Oh how the time flies! Anyway, I am still quilting on the side, though it is difficult to find the time. I haven’t pieced anything of my own in years, literally, but that is hopefully about to change!

Since I have been living in the polar vortex all week, I decided that I needed to see something that looks more like spring! Therefore, I put up this lovely quilt! It’s a MODA Frivol #11! It certainly doesn’t feel like spring outside, but I can have a little piece hanging on my wall inside!

2016-02-18T19:51:00.002-08:00

Here is a sweet table runner that has a LOT of gorgeous hand work!

If you LOVE purple...!!!

2015-04-28T12:02:00.000-07:00

This quilt was done by a lady's grandma...it has so much character! (Wonder if grandma did too? LOL)

Some flowers and feather were added and the ice cream border just received some soft wavy lines.

Here is the very center of the quilt...such a sweet design.

Big QUILT!!!

2015-04-21T16:11:00.000-07:00

This quilt was BIG! It was over 100 x 100...don't remember actual dimensions. It is really hard to piece a big accurately and yet she did awesome!

This was a beautiful quilt made by a friend for her brother who was retiring! What a great retirement gift!

I tried to keep the quilting in the same colors the same. The red received feathers.

Here the tan was meandered and the blue CC's.

The brown was treated with ribbons.

More feathers on the red border and more ribbons in the brown border.

Another view of the borders.

2015-04-15T18:12:00.004-07:00

Ok...I am going to try and add a ton of photos of quilts over the next few weeks. I am totally behind and been so super busy with life, but I would like to work on getting back into posting a bunch of pictures. Enjoy!

So, this was a super fun quilt made by a sweet friend for her boyfriend...for a x-mas gift (last xmas!!!).

It has some straight lines and fun swirls!!!

Here is a sweet baby quilt in pinks and greys!

There are feathers in the colored chevrons and fluffy swirls in the white!

Close-up.

And of course, a shot of the backing!

Here is the same quilt, in a different color way.

Close-up.

Another close-up.

It's been SO long since I posted!!!!

2014-10-06T21:00:00.001-07:00

Hi everyone...sorry it has been SO long since I blogged. Life is well...like everyone's...busy!

I am just posting some pictures from last year...in hopes of finishing showing you pictures before this year is over! Yikes! I won't say much about them...just let you see and enjoy!

Border Challenge Quilt!

2014-04-17T12:18:00.003-07:00

These quilts are always so cool!

There is a swirly quilting design used.

I love the sewing themed appliques!

Puppy Love

2014-04-17T12:00:00.000-07:00

So, here is a sweet child's quilt that has many puppies!

And a close up of a simple meander.

The backing has some great back art!

You can have a reversible quilt!

Close-up of the back!

Rainbows of wool!

2014-03-20T10:47:00.002-07:00

Here is another picture of the wool I have been dying! It looks good enough to eat! I have a few projects that I have started using them in and will share them with you, eventually. They are...interesting!

All the colors from light to dark are represented...I have much more to dye, but these are really turning out great! I have ordered a turquoise colored dye, but heard that it doesn't work very well...I will let you know what I find out!

I am also wanting to do a different green and a more saturated blue and darker red as well. They had to be ordered too.

Wool! WOOL! WOOL!!!

2014-03-06T17:18:00.000-08:00

So, I have started on the journey of hand-dying wool! It is a rather steamy job! It has a definite learning curve...and it is rather labor intensive.

I just love the deep, dramatic colors!

Here are the blues and reds all stacked together!

And now here they are spread out...great gradations just by using different textures! Can't wait to start using them!

Halloween

2014-03-06T15:12:00.002-08:00

Here is a really cool Halloween quilt.

The fabric had a number of really swirly types of shapes, so I quilted it up with swirls!

There was definitely some great fabrics left over, so what better way is there to showcase them then to put them on the back! It is like two quilts in one!

Modern Quilt

2014-03-06T15:06:00.000-08:00

Here is a great quilt that is made from a Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle pattern. It was really pretty in the teals and grays! Yummy!

Up close you can see that a Wildflower pattern was quilted into it.

It has a nice soft teal thread color.

Here's some real eye candy!

2014-01-28T08:02:00.000-08:00

The first quilt is a hand pieced hexagon quilt that took around 15 years to complete, I believe! It is gorgeous! I must admit that I was a little nervous to touch it!

The design is so neat and it is about a queen size! That is a lot of hexagons!

I wish I had taken a picture of the entire quilt! It was so neat!

You can see that inside each flower I did a double continuous curve. In the flowers themselves I just did a freehand hook feather. The white areas have a nice swirl.

The next quilt is for a sweet baby!

This quilt was made with many reproduction fabrics.

I just did a small feather meander all over it. It gives it a great textured look!

New Year! Still behind!

2014-01-21T21:05:00.000-08:00

Well, I was really in hopes that once the hub-bub of the Holidays were over, I would be able to breathe a little better. Well, not yet! I have a quick sneak peak of a quilt I finished for our guild raffle quilt! It is made of beautiful batiks and took about 9-10 people to piece!

You can see that there are A LOT of pieces to this quilt! There is also a lot going on, so...what to quilt on it?

Well, in the border, I decided to do just a little curve with a leaf. Then I treated the square on point as one block and added a continuous curved design from Pam Clarke. Then I added a line around the gold triangles with a hook type feather inside.

I did a feather in the blue part of the one block and a swirl in the orange part. The green triangles will eventually get feathers and the blocks bordering it will get a curved cross-hatching.

Here you can see one of the border areas that has a feather with pebbles around it and more cross-hatching blocks.

Here is the same type of picture, but different angle.

I am in hopes of getting some more close-up pictures with more texture showing. I used Gold Metallic thread that was super cool in how it sparkles in the sunlight! Maybe I can find a way to capture that too! If not, you will have to just imagine it! Anyway, it is one quilt that I am glad to be done with! All in all, it took about 70 + hours to quilt plus all the designing I did and marking beforehand which makes it well over 100 hours! Needless to say, I am behind! Anyway, I will be back soon with many more quilts that need to be blogged!

Pretty Pink Fan quilt!

2013-12-27T07:21:00.000-08:00

This quilt was designed by my client for her granddaughter. It sure is pretty!

The colors aren't nearly as pretty in the pictures as in real life!

You can see the first border has some curly cues and the second border has some soft flowers.

The fans have a tear drop design and the white areas a flowing feather!

This is a picture of the corner.

The back just has some nice texture.

More quilts for Quilter's General

2013-12-18T08:52:00.000-08:00

So, first of all we have a sweet little wool wall hanging.

Here is a picture of the outer border with some yummy swirls for texture.

The center has some continuous curved lines.

The red corners have a feather design that I freehanded.

A picture of the red little corner leaves.

Sorry about the lighting here...too much light in the studio and my iphone camera didn't do well!

The stars have freehand feathers all around and them.

The inside of the stars has a continuous line design.

A few more stars.

The last quilt is beautiful mauves and grays...so rich!

I believe the pattern is Fire Escape.

I used a dusty feathery design that worked well with the fabrics.

AUGUST!

2013-12-14T18:31:00.003-08:00

Oh my goodness! It has been since AUGUST that I last posted! Oh boy! Life is just out of control busy, so something has to give, and it was the blog! Sorry!

I will try to work on catching up...I have gotten a new phone, and new computer since the last post, so all my pictures are scattered everywhere, so bear with me!

(My oldest also turned 11, and the other two will be another year older in a month!)

Ok, so here is a quilt that I made from scratch for a very special bride that got married the first weekend of September. It is made from Connecting Threads fabrics in browns and grays and it was gorgeous!

It is made up of 27 different fabrics!

Each block has a set of lights and darks. It was quilted in a paisley pattern.

Here you can see the paisley better!

And of course a picture of the backing!

Now I will add some pictures of the quilts I did for Quilter's General in Rockford. The first is a Christmas quilt in greens and reds.

The corners in black were going to have a holly leaf design with berries.

The squares have a hook design and swirls in the rest of the black areas.

And another angle along the side.

The black being heavier quilted makes the red and green pop more.

Lots of movement in the black!

I will show more that from Quilter's General next time!

Another sweet pastel quilt!

2013-08-26T19:54:00.000-07:00

I first saw this quilt at our retreat in April! It was so pretty and now that it is done it is gorgeous! Georgian did such a great job on a very advanced quilt!

Yes, this picture is totally upside down! Sorry, but you get the idea of what the whole quilt looks like.

I just did a small allover on it.

Here you can see the texture better.

It is call Feather Meander, too! I added binding on the front, so all the customer had to do was sew it on the back!

Just love this quilt!

Beautiful Pastel Quilt!

2013-08-26T19:41:00.003-07:00

This is such a beautiful quilt for a sweet girl!

I used a small panto called Feather Meander.

You can see the feathers and swirls all throughout the quilt!

Cool Sampler Quilts made by beginners!

2013-08-11T20:26:00.002-07:00

Here is the full quilt...beautiful blues, greens, and an awesome paisley!

In the borders you can see the panto I used...Whirlygig.

The quilting pattern matches the design in the first border nicely.

Here is the comple second quilt sampler.

This quilt has beautiful reds, oranges, and greens.

The panto used for this is called Fantasy Flame.

Here is the third quilt, made of wonderful snowman.

I used a snowflake panto on this quilt and it looks great!

Here you can see that she used blues, reds, greens, and blacks.

More blocks...

This is a super glittery border fabric...my studio is still sparkling! ;)
