Good morning Monica. I have a dilemma that I'd like you to post on
your site. I have two girlfriends in the area who I get together with
occasionally. We're all married with kids so we might get together
every few months. One friends lives closer to me than the other so I
see her a bit more often since we go to the same hairstylist and
usually end up in the same places with the kids because they go to the
same schools. I talk to both of them on the phone quite frequently
while we're driving to and from work. Last week I was on the phone
with the girlfriend who doesn't stay near me and she said something
about thinking it was cool that the other friend's child had won an
award at school. I was puzzled because my son goes to school with her
daughter and I was pondering out loud that I didn't know that and how
could I not know that because I read the weekly newsletter they send
us and I felt awful that I missed that my friend's child had won this
award. I told my friend that I guess I must have missed that and
immediately called the other friend to offer congratulations and ended
up leaving her a message saying that. When I got home I asked my son
why he didn't tell me and he shared that no...she didn't win the award
and reminded me who did and I was really puzzled about it. The friend
never called me back and a couple of days later I realized I hadn't
heard from her and called her back again and got her voicemail again.
So now I'm thinking that maybe the friend who told me this got it
wrong even though I don't call her and ask her anything else about
it. I'm still not thinking anything was wrong other than a
miscommunication when my son tells me that her daughter has stopped
speaking to him at school because he has a "messy ass mama." And now
I'm really upset. If she indeed told our mutual friend that her
daughter won this award then she lied to her. I didn't know anything
about this and was simply making conversation when the subject came up
and now it has turned into me being messy and her daughter saying
something like this to my son at school. I truly don't know how to
handle this and I'm hurt and shocked. What should I do?
