It's the digital camera.

The digital camera has made everyone a professional photography. It has saved millions of dollars in film costs. The amount of pictures you take is limited only by the amount of storage you have, not by how much film you can afford.

Thank goodness this is one technology that is out of the reach of government regulators. Every once in a while, companies do come up with something that really helps consumers.

I've been as crazy as a shit-house rat all day. It's funny how many different things enter one's mind at the full moon. One minute I'm thinking about how much I miss Bo, my beautiful, faithful and loving best friend who is no longer here to walk with me each day; The next minute I'm thinking about how much I love the Spring, and how much I'm looking forward to the coming fishing season.

It seems that a lifetime of memories is a lot to think about all at once. Sometimes it seems overwhelming. By the time one reaches 67 years old, there are a lot of ghosts following you around. It's funny how people come in and out of your life like feathers floating on the wind.

I worked on one particular job for eighteen years and after I left there, I have never seen most of my coworkers again, yet they are still a part of my memories, as if they still matter to me for some reason.

It's kind of like driving a truck. You meet many other drivers that you become friends with then one day they are gone, and you never see them again, yet they still live in your memory.

Truckers are a restless breed. They seem to always be looking somewhere over the horizon, maybe that comes from looking at the world through a windshield. The entire world is a little bent and sand splattered. You can't quite trust anyone you meet, or anything you see.

Getting old sucks. I can't hold out to do the things I used to do. I've never had to depend on anyone but myself, and it really pisses me off to ask anyone for help. I hope I fall dead before I become an old dried up prune slobbering all over myself. Maybe someone will show pity and put me to sleep.

Pity. I've never written that word before. I don't like it. It sounds like something a candy-ass would say.

Pity me. Screw that.

Don't tread on me. I like that better.

Kick-ass and raise hell. That's the American way. Kill'em all by God, and let God sort'em out.

Yep. It's the full moon alright. Luna Diana! Drives me crazy as a shit-house rat every time.

Here is some advice to live by on the Internet. Don't believe anything you hear, anything you read, and only a small portion of what you see, and only then if you know for certain that whatever you're watching actually took place.

Losing someone you care deeply about is almost too much to bare at times. Do you have something that you would like to say to a loved one right now? Then go do it. Don't put it off another second. We are only one heartbeat away from leaving our loved ones forever. Do you know what forever means? If you have not lost a loved one then you do not know what it means.

Have you walked into a room where a loved one always was and felt the rending of your heart as you fully realized that they will never be there again?

Never leave anything left unsaid, for you may plan to see your loved one again in another life, but we don't know that with certainty.

Wow! Morbid! Where did that come from. It must be the full moon. Ape-shit again for sure.

Favorite Morning Show--Morning Joe

What happened to Pat Buchanan?

Favorite TV comedy--Everybody Loves Raymond.
Sometimes Raymond and Marie get on my nerves. I might find me another favorite show.

Favorite TV western - Gunsmoke

Favorite Movie--Fried Green Tomatoes

Favorite meal--Mashed potatoes and gravy and chopped steak.

Favorite way to fish--Fly fishing with flies I tied myself.

Favorite place to fish--Clark Hill Lake and Ogeechee River.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 15 minutes or less

Here's How:

Scoop some soil into a container. Then, add a half-cup of vinegar. If the soil bubbles or fizzes, it's alkaline.

If there's no reaction, scoop a fresh soil sample into a second container. Add a half-cup of water and mix. Then, add a half-cup of baking soda. If the soil bubbles or fizzes the soil is highly acidic.

Amend your soil with wood ash or lime, if it's acidic. Amend your soil with sulfur or pine needles, if it's alkaline

Tips:

If you want a precise pH measurement, get a soil test kit from your local university extension office or home improvements store.

Soil amendment takes time, so make small changes and wait for them to take hold, before making further amendments.

What You Need

•A soil sample
•Vinegar
•Baking soda
•Water
•2 sample containers

When Obama was elected, I was against him all the way. I listened to all that Fox News had to say. Then I began to notice something rather disturbing. Obama had inherited a monumental mess from Bush and Cheney and the Republicans, a fact which Fox News denied to the death,

What I saw in reality was a young man trying to bring the country back from the brink of total economic disaster and the Republicans trying to make him fail at every turn, no matter how much what they did harmed the country. What did Fox News do? They always sided with the Republicans and degraded everything that Obama and the Democrats tried to do. It finally dawned on me that Fox News is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the Republican Party. Being a senior, I have no use whatsoever for the Republican Party. They want to see the Seniors of this country who have paid into Social Security and Medicare all of their lives, thrown out into the streets with no income or medical care. Any Republican who denies this is a liar, plain and simple.

I have migrated to other venues to get my news. I never switch my television to Fox News anymore. I refuse to have one group of people try to brainwash me. I will be supporting Obama in the coming election, because I believe that if the Republicans regain control of the White House, they will utterly and completely steal this nation into oblivion. Anyone who watches Fox News is either a Republican or a fool who would be led by a wolf in sheep's clothing who will lead ordinary working people to life on the poor farm.

Aside from its intended use, people, especially redneck girls, love to pop the bubbles. A sure-fire way to break the ice and end up with a date with a girl on a John Deere tractor is to give her a big square of bubble wrap.

The most popular way to pop bubble wrap bubbles is one bubble at a time between the thumb and index finger. This is not only soothing to the fingers, but is also sexually stimulating, and it enhances memory cells in the brain.

So if you have misplaced something around the house, then pop a few bubbles and you will more than likely remember where it is. If that doesn't happen at least you will have started the ball rolling toward a night of passion with your mate.

Today is also Yogi Bear Appreciation Day

It was on this date in 1958 that the Yogi Bear Show debuted on national television.

It was actually more of just an outing than a serious fishing trip. Five of us went in my pontoon boat. Myself, my wife, my son, his wife, and my granddaughter all went. We launched the boat at King's Ferry and motored up the river a little above Safari Campground. Or as us old timers call it, Jones' Lake.

We fished for a few hours during the middle of the day. The tide was coming in, and almost high, so fishing was slow. It was hot. The thermometer hit 96 degrees, and as the afternoon sun crept under our bimini top we used the trolling motor and went into a slough. Actually it is the entrance to Blue Lake, but you need a small jon boat to go all the way into the lake. We were just after some of the shade provided by the overhanging cypress and willow limbs.

We tied off in here and fished beside the boat and caught 18 nice redbreast while enjoying the cool shade.

At about 5 PM we decided to head back to the landing, since my wife and I would have a pretty good drive ahead of us, back to Pembroke.

On the trip back I took several hundred photos. Below I will share some of them with you. Enjoy.

This first photo was taken between Greene's Creek and Safari Campground. On high tide this section is about as wide as a football field. On low tide it is still wide but the middle and left side are very shallow.

This is nearing the entrance to Jones' Lake, or Safari Campground. Fishing is good in the lake on high tide.

This is looking into the entrance to Safari Campground. At the extreme right of the photo, just out of view is the entrance to the Savannah Ogeechee Canal. This is a historic site which is well worth a trip to the Savannah Ogeechee Canal Visitor Center on Hiway 204, locally known as Ft Argyle Road.

This photo was taken just past the Savannah Ogeechee Canal. What you see here are bridge pilings to the Old Clyde Bridge. This bridge was used during the Civil War, and was burned by Confederate soldiers retreating in advance of Sherman's march to the sea.

These are grass beds along the Ogeechee. On low tide, most of the water recedes from these grass beds to reveal beautiful white sand bars. These are wonderful places to swim. They are also wonderful places to wade and flyfish for hungry redbreast sunfish. Floating an Ogeechee BugEye Fly parellel to the shore here can produce some large roosters.

Another view of the grass banks. This photo was so beautiful I just had to share it.

Some of the shoreline between Safari and King's Ferry that is so great to fly fish for redbreast.

Beautiful places to fish and enjoy scenery abound on the Ogecchee. This is why I love this river so much.

Kayakers enjoying the Ogeechee. In my younger days, when I could sit that low in a boat, I used to canoe this river. A great way to experience it's beauty. Now I enjoy it on the comfort of my pontoon couch.

Fast boats enjoy the Ogeechee also, at least below the Hiway 119 bridge, there is a 9.9 motor limit above that point. When the river is low and the tide is out, extra care must be taken to watch for submerged obstacles in the water. This is a living river which is ever changing. Trees fall into it. Sand bars move from one year to another. My first trip to the river each year is always an adventure.

This island is about half way between Safari and King's Ferry. Heading downstream, the right side of the island contains numerous dangerous stumps and logs. Most boats go around to the left in the deeper water.

Near the island on the left side is a favorite swimming hole. There is a sand bar here about the size of a football field, on low tide. This section is usually crowded with swimmers on a summer weekend.

This is approaching the I 95 bridge. There is a large barge sunken in the middle channel here, which doesn't present a problem unless the river is extremely low. If you look to the right here you will see the entrance to the Canoochee River.

This is looking back at the entrance to the Canoochee River. You can only venture a very short distance into the Canoochee without a permit from Fort Stewart Pass and Permit, located inside Fort Stewart Military Reservation, on Highway 144.

A parade of trucks crossing the I 95 bridge. That is what I did for a living for many years, so I know that a lot of those drivers are wishing they were down here with me. I never fail to wave at a passing truck on a bridge. It means a lot.

Heading under the I 95 bridge. It's always a little spooky going under here, as well as extremely noisy.

Under the bridge. In July and August, during the heat of the day, this is a great place to come and cool off. The temperature under here is often twenty or more degrees cooler, and the fishing is good too.

This is the stretch of river between I 95 and King's Ferry. It is wide but not all that deep, so when the wind gets up, it can really get rough here.

Another look at the King's Ferry bridge. This is a new bridge. The old bridge was torn down after this one was built. The old bridge can be seen in the movie, Forrest Gump. It is the scene where Forrest and Jenny are on the bridge and Jenny leaves with the stranger in the car. That is one reason that I believe that movies shot on location are so important, they often preserve a memory that would be lost forever to urban sprawl.

This is looking towards the campground at the south end of the King's Ferry bridge.

Another view of the King's Ferry bridge. King's Ferry has a rich history. Large sailing ships came here before and during Revolutionary War times. One incident which occurred here during that period is that five British warships came here enroute to capture Savannah. They anchored here for the night.

During the night, a Continental Army Officer and five soldiers lit huge watch fires along the bank, and made so much noise calling back and forth that the British ship commander was convinced that several regiments of soldiers were awaiting daylight to attack his ships.

When daybreak came, the Continental Officer boarded the commanders ship and demanded his surrender, or his ships would be raided and sunk. The commander, thinking himself outnumbered, surrendered. Imagine his surprise, when five more soldiers came out of the woods to collect his weapons. I always think about this incident when I put my boat in at King's Ferry.

It's a good place to eat local seafood. I go there on special occasions. It's a little pricey for a regular eating place.

During the 1960's and 1970's boat races were held here each weekend. Some of the fastest boats in America came here to race. Some of my friends were among them, and they still know how to set up a boat to run fast.

Please leave it more beautiful than you find it.

Read about the rich history of this part of Georgia, online and at the library.

Next time you go fishing, take a kid with you for some real fun.

Always wear proper safety equpment when under way in a boat. January 1, 1863
By the president of the United States of America:

A Proclamation.

Whereas on the 22d day of September, A.D. 1862, a proclamation was issued by the president of the United States, containing, among other things, the following, to wit:

“That on the 1st day of January, A.D. 1863, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons and will do not act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom.”

“That the executive will on the 1st day of January aforesaid, by proclamation, designate the States and parts of States, if any, in which the people thereof, respectively, shall then be in rebellion against the United States; and the fact that any State or the people thereof shall on that day be in good faith represented in the Congress of the United States by members chosen thereto at elections wherein a majority of the qualified voters of such States shall have participated shall, in the absence of strong countervailing testimony, be deemed conclusive evidence that such State and the people thereof are not then in rebellion against the United States.”

Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, president of the United States, by virtue of the power in me vested as Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States in time of actual armed rebellion against the authority and government of the United States, and as a fit and necessary war measure for suppressing said rebellion, do, on this 1st day of January, A.D. 1863, and in accordance with my purpose so to do, publicly proclaimed for the full period of one hundred days from the first day above mentioned, order and designate as the States and parts of States wherein the people thereof, respectively, are this day in rebellion against the United States the following, to wit:

Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana (except the parishes of St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Jefferson, St. John, St. Charles, St. James, Ascension, Assumption, Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. Mary, St. Martin, and Orleans, including the city of New Orleans), Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia (except the forty-eight counties designated as West Virginia, and also the counties of Berkeley, Accomac, Northhampton, Elizabeth City, York, Princess Anne, and Norfolk, including the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth), and which excepted parts are for the present left precisely as if this proclamation were not issued.

And by virtue of the power and for the purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States and parts of States are, and henceforward shall be, free; and that the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authorities thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of said persons.

And I hereby enjoin upon the people so declared to be free to abstain from all violence, unless in necessary self-defense; and I recommend to them that, in all cases when allowed, they labor faithfully for reasonable wages.

And I further declare and make known that such persons of suitable condition will be received into the armed service of the United States to garrison forts, positions, stations, and other places, and to man vessels of all sorts in said service.

And upon this act, sincerely believed to be an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution upon military necessity, I invoke the considerate judgment of mankind and the gracious favor of Almighty God.

Well I have. We don't recommend many products here on Monkey Hell. We especially don't recommend any products that we don't use ourselves.

In case you folks don't know by now, I love to fly fish. I especially love dry fly fishing.

Lots of times it's tough to keep a dry fly floating high on the water.

Well, when I was younger and had better eyesight, that wasn't crucial to me. But age and Wet Macular Degeneration are slowly robbing my sight, so every advantage that I can gain to be able to see my fly on the water is vitally important to me.

I use Gink Dry Fly Floatant. It comes in a gel form in a convenient little bottle that fits perfectly in my fishing vest. The gel form makes it convenient to use since old shaky hands like mine are less likely to spill any. And the gel is absorbed easily into the fly and lasts a long time.
It's the Monkey Hell random post generator at the top. Each time you open Monkey Hell eight random posts are listed so you can jump around all you want and see how we think about everything under the sun and stars. Try it out you might just find something you didn't know about Monkey Hell.

I have finally reached the age of contentment. That's when the unbridled sex drive of youth gives way to the tranquility of maturity (old age). The only problem is that since attaining this state of bliss, I am so damn tired I don't feel like enjoying it.

I am planning a camping trip to the lake. In years past, this time period would be filled with excitement. Since I have done it all before, it all seems somewhat boring, and is a hell of a lot of work. After a sixty seven year lifetime of anticipated vacations, I have come to the conclusion that having fun is hard work.

I have visited the lake and caught hundreds of fish, some really big ones, and after all this the thing I enjoy most is sitting on the back of my docked pontoon boat with a warm cup of coffee, and fishing for bream.

That is total relaxation. A bobber in the water, geese swimming by, birds singing early morning choruses, a turtle basking on the end of a sunny log, a Great Blue Heron slowly wading a point and spearing a fish now and then, the sounds of children rollicking in the distance, the smell of bacon frying in a pan. You know, on second thought, I'm pretty excited about heading up to the lake after all.

I keep reading posts here and there about how white people are glad to see Michael Vick get karma payback, and that this is racist. Well that's just a bunch of horse manure, because I am not a racist, but I am very glad to see Vick receive some karma payback. I would feel the same way if the person receiving the payback was a white person who abuses and murders dogs or other animals.

The hell with Michael Vick. He deserves every bad thing that can possibly happen to him. But let's get one thing perfectly clear; my saying that does not bring more karma payback to bare on Michael Vick. Vick is getting karma payback because that is the law of karma. "What goes around, comes around".

In other words whatever you do in this life is paid back to you three fold. If you do good things to help animals, then good things will come back to you three fold. If you do bad and evil things to animals, then bad things will happen to you three fold. That result has nothing to do with racism or whether or not one wishes bad things to happen to Michael Vick. That is simply the law of the universe. You can't change that law. It is not a racist law like Jim Crow. That law was enacted by the Rulers of the universe who enact natural laws that govern all of mankind, whether black, white, yellow, purple, red or green with bulging eyes.

I don't wish anyone to get hurt, but when I see an evil person who has abused and murdered helpless animals that were looking to him for protection, receive his karmic rewards in the form of personal injury, then I smile to myself, and rejoice inwardly that the laws of the universe are still working, despite all of men's feeble attempts to change them.

Who is to say how long Michael Vick's karmic lessons will go on? Not you or I that is for certain. That is for the laws of karma to determine. The best thing that we can do is to stand by and watch, and make certain that we don't do anything to trigger the laws of karma in our own lives.

These sort of lessons are played out each and every day all over the world, the only difference in Michael Vick's case is that he is a public figure. The laws of karma governs your life as well as mine and that is just a fact of life that can't be changed no matter how many times people call them racist.

We are planning to do one of my favorite things today; going to plunder through several second hand stores. You never know what you might find in a second hand store. Fun stuff.

You know what? I ain't no uppity rich person like a lot of bloggers on the Internet. I was raised the son of a sharecropper family in middle Georgia. So I know what work is, and I know what frugal living is too. I don't like people that take advantage of poor working people's misfortunes. I'm talking about scalawags like Mitt Romney.
If there is one thing that is consistently true about rich people, it is that they can never get enough money. I heard a woman once who said that anyone who is not rich in America, is stupid. Well, since that statement that woman's rich husband has died, and she has just recently had to sell her house to make ends meet. I guess her husband was the smart one in that family. Anyhow he's as dead as Julius Caesar now, and all his riches stayed behind.

Mitt Romney says that us poor folks envy people like him, but he misses the mark by a mile on that score. I don't consider anyone too damn smart that spends a billion dollars trying to get a job that pays two hundred thousand. If I wanted to envy someone it would be the man that has a million dollars and lives like he has hardly anything. Gingrich tagged Romney right. He is a vulture. Anyhow I don't have much use for anyone that the big fat idiot Rush Limbaugh supports. Ain't it funny that Rush really hates Romney, but he's having to defend him.

Well anyhow I got that all talked about, so I feel better now. I think I'll go outside and do a little tractor work before time to go to the second hand stores. I'm piling up all the leaves from the autumn, and then I plan to cover them with some nice black dirt, toss in a little lime and fertilizer and let that work for awhile, then I'll take my tractor bucket and turn the pile over. When it gets ready in about a couple of months, I'll spread it over the garden spot, and let the spring planting fever set in. Life up here in the country sure is fun. Them rich, pretty boys can have all that city they want. I'll just sit here and enjoy nature and keep all my guns oiled up, just in case everything goes to hell and I have to defend my turnip patch.

It's nice outside tonight. A very mild January night. Too cool for mosquitoes which is really nice. We took our two remaining dogs for their annual shots today. It seemed really strange and sad not to have Bo along. Birtie, our Fox Terrier didn't like the shots at all, and threw a fit to show her distaste for the entire procedure. Prissy. our Black Labrador whimpered a little but didn't protest much. Neither of them are anywhere near as brave as Bo was.

I try to love Prissy like I did Bo, but the bond is just not there. Bo and I had a special bond from the first day we met. We were soulmates; free spirits.
