Getting There

Do you feel lost? Don’t panic! Here you will find all the necessary information on getting to and from the festival, with or without a car.

Location

The area surrounding the alpine plateau of Colfiorito harbours a heady mix of history and legends … come and discover the magical atmosphere straddling the worlds of dream and reality of the Monti Sibillini!

Entrance

The cost of admission for the entire festival is only 20 euro per person. The ticket includes 17 concerts, parking, camping facilities, and cultural and sporting events. Free for children under 10.

Sacred Fire

The most evocative moment of the entire festival is a symbol of the transition from day to night. The rite of lighting the sacred fires originates from the culture of the ancient Celts – on the night that marks the end of the warm season and the beginning of darkness and cold (October 31 – November 1), the Celts believed all laws of space and time were abolished and that the world of spirits could join the world of the living. To ward off evil spirits, hearth fires in the village were extinguished. It was the task of the Druids to light the New Fire on top of a hill in the heart of an oak tree, which was considered sacred. People then danced and sang around the New Fire until dawn, when the transition from the solar season to that of darkness was complete. The Druids then bore the embers of the New Fire to rekindle the domestic fires of the family, as a sign of hope and return to life.
For the eleventh edition of the Festival, the traditional lighting of the sacred fires at 9pm on Saturday, August 3 will be accompanied by Le Marche singer-songwriter Serena Abrami, who will sing the song Mna na h-Éireann. She will be joined on keyboards by Fabio Capponi and on the Celtic harp by Luciano Monceri.

Divination

The arts of divination and magic were an essential part of Celtic culture, and were the prerogative of the Druids, priests and men of knowledge.
Do not miss the space dedicated to readings of the future and good wishes with fortune tellers, palm readers, and interpreters of runes and rites.

Celtic Battle Re-enactment

In the cauldron of Montelago’s Avalon Arena you can relive the excitement of a battle between the Celtic and Roman armies.
Rehearsed in the days leading up to the festival with much attention to detail such as the reconstruction of shields and weapons similar to those used by the ancient warriors, the battle is the festival’s culminating historic re-enactment.
Come and find out who reigns victorious on Saturday 3rd at 19:00 on the battlefield.

Carpooling

Share transport with those who are travelling the same route, and maybe you’ll make some new friends.

Workshops

To get to know and learn the ancient Celtic traditions of music, dance and crafts, inquire about participating in one of the festival’s workshops.

Celtic Weddings

New in 2013 are two sacred occasions dedicated to spiritual unions. Two priestesses, Alessandra and Martina McAjvar, will celebrate the Celtic wedding rites at the Tolkien tent around sunset. Seven ceremonies will be performed from 19:00-20:30 on Friday 2nd (four) and Saturday 3rd (three).
The Celtic wedding is a ritual that establishes a union between two people with a trial period of one year and one day, after which there will be final confirmation or the option to dissolve the bond. It’s a wedding made ​​special by the presence of the elements – water, air, earth and fire – and Mother Earth, serving as witnesses of the bond between the couple.

Celtic Games

The Scots are a warlike people, as they frequently had to defend their land from foreign invasion. From an early age, boys were trained to fight and give their lives dearly, and it’s from these military exercises that our traditional Celtic games were born.

Celtic Market

Starting to the right of the stage, the avenue dedicated to the Celtic Market winds up towards the food stands.

Rugby

For the eleventh edition of the festival, this Celtic sport par excellence returns among the meadows and peaks of Colfiorito!

Serena è una cantautrice marchigiana che fin da piccola fa del canto il miglior strumento di conoscenza del mondo. Quarta al Festival di Sanremo Giovani 2011, ha collaborato con diversi artisti, tra cui Max Gazzè, Neri Marcorè, Mercanti di Liquore, Cristina Donà, Fiorella Mannoia, Gnu Quartet, Orchestra sinfonica del mediterraneo, Simone Cristicchi, Petra Magoni e Ferruccio Spinetti. All’attivo ha un album su etichetta Emi (2011) premiato a Lunezia Festival con menzione speciale e attualmente è impegnata alla lavorazione di un secondo progetto, anticipato dal singolo Ottobre prodotto da Luca Vicini (“Vicio”, bassista dei Subsonica) e con la partecipazione di Tommaso Cerasuolo (Perturbazione) alla voce. Serena è anche attrice e interpreta il canto greco antico nell’opera “Erathostene – il volto della terra”.

A Montelago la sua voce accompagnerà il momento più suggestivo della festa, la tradizionale accensione dei fuochi sacri, sulle note del brano Mná na h-Éireann. Con lei sul palco i musicisti Fabio Capponi alle tastiere e Luciano Monceri all’arpa celtica.

Dalla costa Adriatica:
Prendere la superstrada direzione Macerata/Tolentino fino al termine.
Proseguire su Statale 77 fino a Fonte delle Mattinate, poi girare a sinistra.

Dalla Costa Tirrenica:
Raggiungere Foligno. Proseguire su Statale 77 fino a Colfiorito.
Proseguire direzione Macerata fino a Fonte delle Mattinate, poi girare a destra per Taverne.

In treno

Per chi viene in treno consigliamo di raggiungere la stazione più vicina al Festival, quella di Foligno, e da lì usufruire del servizio bus navetta fino all’ingresso della manifestazione.

In deltaplano (novità 2013)

Venerdì 2 e sabato 3 agosto la PARAPENDIO EMOZIONI organizza voli turistici in parapendio tandem con istruttori professionisti per entrare al Festival dall’alto. Il volo turistico sarà effettuato dal Monte Pennino, dislivello di 750 mt, e durerà circa un’ora (breafing, preparazione e volo).

Carpooling (novità 2013)

Il forum per il carpooling nasce con l’intento di offrire un servizio a tutti coloro che desiderano partecipare alla XI Edizione del Montelago Celtic Festival, la festa druidica dell’Appennino Umbro Marchigiano, che si terrà a Taverne di Serravalle di Chienti (Macerata) dal 2 al 3 Agosto.
