Member Algis Kemezys writes: " Hello Friends,
It never rains but it pours!
Doubly exciting news!
Our movie, The Messenger Hermes Remembers, has been selected to be shown through July by the LiftOff NewYork City Film Festival and in August by the Atlanta Award-Qualifying Film Festival.
The Atlanta Festival is an international film festival with a special focus on the region of USA/Canada. The Atlanta festival features high-quality programming, a strong industry segment, and an educational and networking platform for young filmmakers— thus a generated presence in the international film industry. Filmmakers and professional media representatives, along with a paying audience of more than 20,000 viewers, confirm its status as the leading film festival in the region.
LiftOff New York is a company run by Pinewood Studios in London, England. Home of the James Bond Studios.
The LiftOff NYC Film Festival opens today for all month. Due to the Covid Crisis, instead of being in theatres, it is now online for the entire month of July. In our section called Trendsetters, there are 117 short movies to watch for $13.50. You have a whole month to watch them.Twenty-six hours of innovative entertainment if you see all of them. If this Lift-off festival follows the pattern of the others, you will be able to vote for your favorite two movies.
This will be the fourth time our movie is in NYC at the International Film Festival. Hope you can see the show! Byron will be with you watching from Heaven for the whole month as well.
To check it out, our movie is no. 104 in the Trendsetters Short Movie Program. See Additional Info link below. The Atlanta films will be shown online in August, and I will post a link to them when I receive it.
Hugs and Knishes,
Algis"

Member Claude Closky writes: Hi, I'm an artist in residency in Montreal for a few weeks (Oct 28-Nov 24) to work on a film project which requires participation of many English speakers. The script is a dialogue taking place in an art opening. It's entirely composed of texts taken from the work, mostly paintings, of visual artists from the mid-fifties to the present. I'm looking for volunteers who can come to the Fonderie Darling to read the texts and then be filmed for a couple of minutes. The visuals of the film are composed just of stills taken from very short video sessions. The total time involved should be less than half-an-hour, and in many cases less than fifteen minutes. I hope you will be interested, my email is privateview@sittes.net. Regards, Claude Closky More info

Hi
I am a filmmaker. I am presently...

Member Lucas writes: "Hi
I am a filmmaker. I am presently situated in Montreal – Quebec - Canada. I am Canadian Citizen of Greek Origin. I have background in arts - film and TV. I am 30 years in Canada. I collaborated with CBC and NFB. And all this time I kept very good relations with my contacts in the art environment in Greece. The reason for this post: I have an idea: I could go back in Greece and open a small Station and Broadcast Canadian content in Greece and the surrounding areas. I mean something like "Exportation of Canadian Culture". It is true that via the Internet today, all the programs go everywhere. BUT people there they are not familiar with Canadian culture in order to search for that in the Internet. A Station could help significantly. Canada has very interesting cultural stage - music, theater, comedy and everything.
But our products are not well published out of Canada. Many Canadian artists leave for USA and Europe. The station that I suggest may "open a new market".
The geographical position in Greece is very "strategic". A Station in Greece may be visible in all Balkans, Middle East and Italy. If we give Canadian music and one Canadian singer has a hit-song, then we may organize a presentation of the artist there. I think is a good idea.
And hopefully in the future may be created an association: "Canadian & Greek Cultural Exchange". Anyway - all that is just an idea. I do not know from where to start. I need someone to help me express my idea and direct me to the right programs. I am sure that Canada has programs to help “Exportation of Canadian Culture”. But you have to move the right way. PLEASE contact me. Email: kon.kitsos@gmail.com"

The Messenger Hermes Remembers by Algis...

Member Algis Kemezys writes: The Messenger Hermes Remembers by Algis Kemezys, wins Best International Short Film Award at the Golden State Film Festival. Byron Ayanoglu's production of Algis Kemezys' film THE MESSENGER HERMES REMEMBERS which was shot in multiple locations, from Greece to India to Mexico, as well as at home-base in Canada, stars Algis himself, Nina Korey and Paul William Roberts with an original musical score by Guthrie Lowe. Hermes is Algis's fifth film. All of his previous work has earned laurels world-wide. His documentaries, Mimetoliths and Master-Class with Walter Lassally were extensively shown and had distribution deals. Previous to film-making, Algis had notable success as a fine-art photographer with exhibitions in major galleries in New York City, Mumbai, Athens, Toronto and Montréal. It all started when he was hired to assist photographic doyenne Berenice Abbott chronicle and print her life's work for a retrospective, when she was eighty and he, twenty one. The twenty-four minute Hermes, already an official selection of this year's festivals in Melbourne, Barcelona, Sicily, Rome and Pune is a fanciful musing on the life and times of the messenger of the gods. Now old, but as always seeking the approval of his Olympian father Zeus, he wields his caduceus to recapture his own precocious youth, when he was testing the limits of his powers and yearning for eternal love -- with himself. Filmed most stunningly in the Hellenistic temples and mystical antiquities of Greece and Aegean Turkey, the story weaves in and out of the past and the present, to lead the viewer on a delightful voyage into the origins of myth. A distinguished cast, headed by the majestic Paul William Roberts, animates the story with entertaining, sure-footed performances.
