Holiday Style: Mother and Child

I try not to share too much of my life on here, because I know most people want to look at pretty pictures and then move on. But if I don't write about it I think the lump in my throat is going to choke me.

What my grandmother's doctor has been writing off as arthritis has turned out to be lung cancer. It has spread and is hurting her little shoulders and arms. They haven't given us much time with her, and the thought of that is incomprehensible right now.

So Christmas will be bittersweet this year, as I cuddle a three year old that wants everything in "pink color" and try not to turn into a little girl myself and crawl into my grandmother's lap.

Holiday Style: Decompress

I've been bombarded with bad news for the last couple of days, and wanting nothing more than to sink in a gigantic tub of bubbles, surrounded by lit candles. Then I would follow that up with a cuddle up on the couch with a cashmere throw, stack of magazines and a cup of cocoa topped with mounds of whipped cream.

Brittany Murphy & Instyle Home

I was saddened to learn of Brittany Murphy's passing yesterday. I had another post planned, but thought I would rather write about her today. These images are from an old Instyle Home magazine, where she talked about loving and collecting art.

In the first image, an aquatint etching, Sara Smiling, by Mary Cassatt. Underneath is an image of Murphy as a child, and I wonder if she saw a little of herself in that etching.

Oil painting, Blowing Bubbles, by Charles Chaplin. I love this painting, and I can see where the whimsical quality appealed to Brittany's effervescent spirit.

In Her Closet: Anthropologie Night Blooming Dress

We had Mr.M's work party this week, and after overdressing for last year's shindig, I went the conservative route. I purchased the Anthropologie Night Blooming dress in anticipation of spring, but as we all know with new clothes you want to wear them right away.

This is already my second time wearing this dress, though I'm not entirely pleased with it. I love the top portion, but I wish I could have worn it with other items.

I paired the dress with tights and Anthropologie Head Mistress peep toes. Not crazy about black tights with the skirt, so thinking I may tuck this dress away for a couple of months for when I can do bare legs again. I think it will look best with a cute pair of sandals and maybe a belt. I'm also wearing gold hoop earrings that you can't see in the picture because I cut my head off;)

In the top picture I'm wearing my vintage faux fur that has someone's initials embroidered on the inside, which I love. I'm not crazy about things that are monogrammed now, because they always tend to be preppy, and that is the one look I don't do. (I had been sitting all day working off site so please ignore the wrinkles in the skirt.)

It is the closest I'm able to get to the awesome top(outfit!) Giovanna Battaglia was wearing at fashion week, so I'm happy enough for now.

Home Profile: The Soft Touch

With all the bright flashing colors the holidays bring, a creamy white home would be a beautiful place to bliss out. I think I would eventually crave color, but a week stay would be very relaxing!

I love silk curtains, especially ones touch the floor like a ball gown.

I'm obsessed with the plate holder above the sink. Our kitchen cabinets are not deep enough for most of our dishes, so I would love to have one of these.

Want of the Day: Yves Saint Laurent Tribute in Grey Patent

I wanted to start doing polyvore outfits for my Wants of the Day, but it could take me hours. I would start shopping the sites and after browsing dresses for 20 minutes I would remember I was supposed to be looking for skirts to match my shoes.

My want folder started getting clogged up, so I'm back to short and simple posts about whatever I'm desiring at the moment. Net-A-Porter, $795

Look of the Day: Diane Kruger + Chanel Gloves

I could probably post a Diane Kruger picture once a week, but you may get sick of her, and I don't want that to happen. If you read my blog you obviously know I love her coat(animal print!), but what really has me swooning would be the mint green Chanel gloves she is wearing. Perfection.
