Hi all! This is sort of a psa post.

The fact is, I've not been posting here much at all lately. The current project I've been at for a few months now has taken new roads, following new adventures. Consequently, posting here has taken a nose-dive.

I'm still very active in the game. Perhaps more than ever and that's saying a lot. The Horde Project is on a different server than Sol and all his alliance kids. It has become the new 'home base', so to speak.

The new Guild Leader

That's Aygaren. He's showing off the new tabard. lol, he even got a haircut and style so it would show better. Aygaren and his adventuring friend decided to start a guild together. It's a joint venture. It also requires a lot of time investment. Hence, the reason for posting around here drying up to the shape it's in.

I'm not sure what's going to happen to Moonkin Journeys just yet. Haven't made any decisions one way or another. I did wish readers and followers to know that there won't be any posts here for an undetermined amount of time.

It Is What?

Things are really hectic on the home front today. The computer with game on it decided to take another vacation, maybe permanately.

Anyway, I'm doing a fresh install on a temporary laptop set-up mixed with desktop monitor-keyboard and mouse. Sould prove interesting if everything finally gets downloaded with the game.

In the meantime, I dealing with slight depressions over possibly losing all my screenshots and other associated game/blog files, which I obviously never took the time to back up on disk. Time will tell though, and we'll move on as best we can.

We'll be returning to posting in near future, hopefully with interesting stuffs for a change--lol!

Gone Wild

Yes, I've been really slack around here, once again! Not totally without good reason though. Aygaren has gone a bit off his usually calm approach to things lately. I think it had something to do with his stress over not jumping into the dungeon finder.

Not wishing to be left out of everything, he's been on a rampage soloing Classic and Burning Crusade dungeons. Along with doing his obligatory Firelands dailys with a mix of Tol Barad dailys. Toss in a couple of battleground appearances and you'll get a picture of his strange actions.

Ay did manage to take his auto-camera with him on some of his adventures. Oh, and he does claim to have a method behind his madness. For what that's worth? As far as the Classic Dungeons, he has only two left to do. Those would be the Stockades in Stormwind, and Gnomergan. Says he's saving those for his adventure partner to join in on the fun doing Alliance runs :)

He's had quite a romp through Outland though and enjoyed every moment of it.

Everything proved to be very interesting to do and the sights from places he's never been were amazing. Hopefully, all this running about will prepare him better for the Cata instances, which he would like to try with groups alongside. His rampage through these dungeons though has also been duly noted in his records.

On a side note, Aygaren actually did one of those transmogging thingys this past week. He was wearing/using this Twilight Mirrorshield he obtained from a quest. Pretty good shield he says. But kind of not so good looking. During one of his many dungeon runs this past week he happened to come up with the Silvermoon Crest Shield. He really liked the looks of it so much better that he spent the 14 gold and some silver pieces to change the look.

Just sooo much better looking now!

I worry about Ay though. Now that he's found those transmogging folks in Org, he may just be changing his whole appearance.

So, that is what's been happening the past week or so. Ay has been taking his Fenris "main" position to heart and setting examples for the rest of the crew. I hear that Dufit has been expressing some concerns over all this. Rumor has it that he wants to better Ay in several ways, lol. And rumor has it also that Ay has set sights on Northrend dungeons now. My o' my. Where will it all end up?

I felt like writing a post this early morn, this 6:24am I can't sleep morn. Then I realized I had nothing awesome to write about. Gone are the days of dozens of notes laying about in such disorganized fashion, since I couldn't remember what was where anyway. Perhaps I should rez that old habit and patch it up a bit to being more useful. *note to self: ignor thoughts about making notes again* Okay, that's settled now.

What we do have today for your random wanderings, is some random screenshots! Aygaren said something about being busy the rest of the weekend, and into the next week, so he offered up a bit of time for the camera.

Flood Survival

Well, the *rains and flood* effects seem to have subsided around here for now. Yea! Comp issues have settled down to a workable state. Though, I might be looking for a new one this summer. Even those nasty virus bugs (the rl un-healthy kind) have decided to go on their way, finally.

Aygaren was getting frustrated with his adventureing interrupts and kept missing his Mt. Hyjal partner, Sasche. They finally did manage to meet up though, and finish off all the necessary shrine/ancient openings. They are quite the team in a way. Nothing stands a chance at survival when they drop in. I mean, really. If you're in some cultist encampment or holed up in some cave in force, and suddenly this Tauren prot pally and Undead demo lock w/void pet come calling....you may as well pack it in and go home. Death has come to clean house. The only real question is "Who's going to kill you first?" As you can expect, two short trips by this team and Hyjal was cleared for safe passage. At least for now.

Sad to say, but Birzak and Gizzel have departed from the great Horde project. They were replaced by Olmer, an Undead level 3 hunter camped out in Undercity waiting assignment. The two departees were not the only fatalities. Several servers also saw major clean-outs. I guess spring cleaning came a bit early to Azeroth.

Aygaren and Dufit still have their little contest going on with killing rares. Aygaren has taken a large lead though, ever since his tactical move to include the Northrend hunting grounds. The last I checked in on their progress, Ay had twice as many kills listed. By the way, their little contest is being screenshoted and collected in the Fenris Rares Picasa web album here, if you would like to take a peek. I try to keep them labeled as to who killed by. And the map in upper right will give you co-ords of where.

The other day I found Aygaren cleaning up his bank mess, grumbling and still itching that pesky bug under his plate armor. So I took a quick peek over his shoulder to see what he was hiding out. Nothing too amazing in there. Some low level armor pieces he thought might look good for mogging later on. Several plain letters from who knows who. Let's see, a virtual ton of ore and bars to feed his blacksmithy habits. Bunches of motes and volitiles that might come in handy. Spare food stuffs to cook, maybe. Old Crafty. And what's that in the bottom corner hiding out? Hmmmm? Four (yes, 4) extra fishing poles. Now, why on Azeroth Ay decided to keep all these fishing poles is a mystery. Really. He can only use one at any given moment. His backpack isn't large enough to allow carrying an interchangeable set on the road. Oh, and he's not talking about all those tabards laying around here and there. I foresee an intervention coming on here. Aygaren is going to learn about Void Storage. Soon, very soon.

Aygaren rushed through Northrend, he wanted to be lvl 80. Then he wants to be 85 for Firelands. Then he wants to be geared for the coming Pandas. Then he wants to still master tanking. Then he wants....well, you get the picture. Like a little kid in the corner penny candy store, Ay just wants everything. I hate to burst his bubble, but the likelihood of everything coming about just isn't possible. Something will have to give. He keeps telling me all is good. I have my doubts though, as he was mumbleing something about Call to Arms weekend. Hurmph! He doesn't realize that he's got like zero (0) pvp gear.

Anyway, I'm off to see what the boys are up to today. "Victory or Death", is the word of the day.

When It Rains...

"When it rains, it pours." I don't remember where that originally came from. I just know it's one of those really old sayings that generally holds a goodly bit of truth about itself. ATM, I think I'm floating somewhere aimlessly upon flood ravaged plains. LOL! We do what we can, and ride out the rest.

I try not to get down about things anymore, afterall, "shit happens." But when the rains turn to floods, sometimes it's a little hard to tread water. Health stuff don't really bother me anymore, it is what it is. On the other hand, weird comp issues interrupting game play are a real pain in the you-know-where! Sooo...

I'm floating around the blog community this morning attempting to catch up on a mountain of blog posts I've missed of late. Most everyone I read looks like they've been carrying on fairly well in my absence. Except maybe Ancient, who I'm sure probably needs a few hugs these days. *hint*

I like quite a few bloggers for probably as many reasons as there are bloggers. Even if they don't wholly specialize in WoW, *cough*, I still like them. Wit, humor, sarcasam, rants, raves and whatever else they may toss out...it's all good. Every so often though, some sort of crap gummys up the works and opinionated bloggers become even more opinionated. Although things can be quite interesting on any given day in the community, you just never know what can tip the balance and flow of things at any moment.

It's times like these when I sit back, comfortable in the knowledge that I write in this blog. I write what I wish to write about. I write in a blog, while coming up on two years of age, most people don't even know about. I don't get hundreds of page views a day, maybe 10-12 per week last time I bothered looking. I have one (1) regular commentor and a few followers. All very nice people whose blogs I enjoy reading.

I don't get any spam, or trolls or hate mails. Most certainly the sign of a non-descript blog. And you know what? It's all good. If I want to post about some achievement I managed to earn, or some rare beast I managed to down solo, or some other thing most people consider common place noob stuff......guess what...I can do that. My cheevie, my kill, my blog.

Mind you now! I am in no way ranting or taking stabs at anyone. It is a self-evaluation, simply triggered by some readings from around the community. I am no longer the writer I used to be, but that's okay. This blog is about my journeys and time in Azeroth. The two wouldn't mix very well, and then there would be one of those nasty goblin explosions gone wrong. Sometimes I question my own blogging intentions/direction and wonder if I should do more. Sometimes. At the beginning of this 2012 year, I considered becoming a bit more opinionated. It's still under consideration, lol.

Someday, Moonkin Journeys may undergo some transformations. Someday. In the meantime....

Hiding in Northrend

'ello there! i r nut loss of way yet :) Good. Does everyone feel like they're home now? LOL.

It's been a rather hectic time of late. What with so-called real life junk, and that Tauren pally being just so demanding. To top everything off, there've been some rather weird game issues going about, which started giving me headaches three days back. Sheeeezeee!

KK, round up time.

I did manage to sneak in for a bit when I found out I got tagged for a meme Sixth thingy. Screen shots. I couldn't resist. It's been good trying to catch up on all the bloggers who participated.

Aygaren has been rather demanding for attention, I think he's just upset cause he hasn't found his first Northrend rare to kill yet. So, he's been going about snatching up quests meant for two, three or more adventurerers. Not to mention every wanted poster he comes across. He does love a good challenge. His current escapade calls for a group of three. Four heads up for the bounty. The first three fell to his sword rather quick. The last one though....well......a real solo challange. Wasn't long before he realized he bit off a little more than he could chew. His new warlock friend heard about it all and came by to help. They did a blind run at this guy, twice. It wasn't too pretty a sight. Time came to sit back a moment or two, to come up with a real plan. I suspect the two of them will emerge victorious during the next run. News at ten?

He recently dinged 75 and is in a rush to 80. Hence, the reason for grabbing all the mercenary jobs that pay the most, while leaving the light work for those squishey types. Oh! And Dufit leaked to me news about Ay having some sort of date set up for teaming with this warlock to tear up Mt. Hyjal. Hmmm? Could prove very interesting indeed. kk, enough gossip. I've have to speak to Dufit about such things. Floppy eared squishey Goblin. (or so says Ay anyway)

Hmmmm, maintenance will be over in a bit. Ay will have about enough time to go through his dailys before the sun sets and the wind begins to howl cold chills again. Note to self: new project, organize massive screen shot collection. Yeah, right. I think instead, I'll just leave you dear friends with a small piece of eye candy. Blood and Thunder!

It's very late in the coming, slow am I. Apparently, I got "tagged" by Ancient and Harpy to do a screenshot lookup in this very un-organized mess of folders I got spread out just everywhere.

lol, it took a bit of fingering out and doing, but I finally came up with a reasonably close response, all the while realizing just how long I've been taking screenshots and how they've grown over the years. Oh well, another project for some future game maintenance day.

So, after a bit I came up with this one:

This was from November, 2010. During that time, Sol required all the 'kids' to meet with Malfurion and Tyrande. Alisym dutifully reported for the introduction which took place at the Temple of the Moon.
I think this was something to do with Sol's admiration and respect for Malfurion. Long did he try to fashion himself accordingly. Although he did'nt always agree with some of his hero's actions, he held a great belief in what he stood for. Sadly, Azeroth proved to be a bit over-whelming for Alisym. She retired gracefully.

*I'm quite late with this and also quite sure most folks have already been 'tagged,' so to speak. So here's the thing:

The Road to Rare Riches

A little off subject first. Since day one my game comp has been running on only 2GB's of OEM ram. Last night I was gifted with four (4), brand spankin' new 1GB sticks of ram! The surgery is set for this morning. I'm expecting a full recovery and enhanced preformance. At the very least, I should think that I'll be able to see my spells cast in real time. YEA!!! /dance

Aygaren was feeling a bit lonely being the only one trudgeing through the Outlands. Feeling that it was his duty to encourage his 'brothers-in-arms' to join the cause, he sent out some spirit messages.

Dufit scanned Ay's message, which spoke of endless opportunities for mercenary work, demons and monsters such as never seen before, and limitless gold to be had. Dufit, being the little goblin he is, saw two things in the note which were high on his list. Killing stuffs....and GOLD!

Dufit wasn't of Dark Portal age as yet, but quick runs through Tanaris, Felwood and a minor touchdown in Un'Goro gave him his passport. Along that route, he became skilled at locating rare beasts, realizing the unique amount of gold they carried. Not to mention 'better than your average armor' pieces and tons of experience for his mercenary resume. After all, "Time is money, friend."

Hellfire Peninsula seemed a bit rough at first. Stories of rare beasts roaming about were many, but sightings were about as rare as the beasts. Not to be one-up'ed by Aygaren though, he made daring advances into Zangarmarsh and Terokkar Forest finding his way. It was Zangarmarsh though, which broke open the rare treasure chest hunting grounds. To date, Dufit has five marked off his list of 20 KoS hit list.

Of Note: I don't use any add-ons to scan for rares. The boys tend to be a bit old-fashioned in this way. Talking to the locals, along with a lot of foot-work and fly-bys. And then there's their 'go-to' sage, Euphyley. Without her excellant mapping skills and experience, Dufit could easily have fallen off the end of the world. Several times.

Aaarrrrrrrrgh!

This is my second week of irratic game play time. Aaarrrrrrrrgh! Even Blizz is messin' wit me, can't make up der minds wit the maintenance schedual days. What the heck.

So it's back to work on a new blog header image today, along with some scattered readings. We all know I'm not a raider....yet. That doesn't stop me from reading blogs by people who do raid quite well and successfully. Someday, the information will come in handy I'm sure. This morning I was treated to a thoughful posting over at World of Matticus. Aygaren is 61 now, and still struggling to start tanking dungeons. Thoughts of Black Temple and Illidan are in the back of his mind, barely noticeable. I have to wonder though if places such as Ulduar, will amaze him as much in the future, as they did for those who saw them in real time. Maybe the LFR will be available for him by the time he gets to that level.

Having just started in Outland though, there are several other things on his mind. Such as the Bloody Rare achievement. Many of the alt kids have quite a spread of rare kills under their belts, but not one holds this achievement. He also got some kind of bug inside his new plate armor and feverishly traveled wide and far Honoring the Elders. There are a couple of stray Alliance ones still giving him headaches though!

Back to the Bloody Rare thing. By way of another blogger's blogroll, we've come across a little gem to help out clearing Outland of rares. "WoW Rare Spawns Guide." As luck would have it, she is currently posting the Outland zones. This is a great find. Very detailed information on the rares, spawn points and paths, and videos!

Transmoggie stuff: Sure, at lvl 61 and greatly limited dungeon experiance, Ay doesn't have a stash of great looking gear laying around. But his eyes are wide open watching for possibilities for future use. He recently made a special trip to Winterspring to find an out-of-the-way vendor who held a cool looking sword blacksmithing plan. Which he kindly shared for eight (8) shiny gold pieces. It's got a fair sized material list to smith one, but it does look really good and has potential. Ay's still holding on to that shield he likes from Feralas, it may or may not look so good with the sword, time will tell. He's also still at soloing earlier dungeons, so other stuffs may pop up unexpectedly. LOL, he may turn out to be hap-hazard unique looking!

New Stuffs!

New stuff ahead!

I don't know too much about you, but I like to read bloggers "About" pages, if they have one. Which is why my own page has been a consistant, sub-consious thorn in my side in like, forever? Questions like "what" and "how much" do I write there plague me. After all, I'm just another player in a sea of millions. Maybe average, maybe not quite, who knows.

Over the past couple of days I've been intent on drafting a "real" about page. It's done now, more or less. Long wall of text though. I'll try to add some intermitent screenies as I go along. If you're feeling like one of Azeroth's Heros who dare to tread anywhere, feel free to go have a read. But, maybe take a snack and drink with you!

I'm also working silently on a new blog header image, one which I feel will be more agreeable with MJ's post contents. So don't be surprised or think you've stumbled into the wrong place sometime when it changes. Even the layout is self-adjusting these days, lol.

As always, drop a comment if you so wish. I really don't bite, or any other such thing. Unless you're a troll of sorts. Fair warning. Just saying.

I hear Aygaren yelling for my attention. He's trekking around in early Outland and likes to drag me along. Soooo, happy gaming all. CYL!

Those Little Pleasures

Every so often, you just have to sit back and relish those simple, little pleasures and surprises that happened your way seemingly out of nowhere. Such as, a very young Aygaren on his very first trip into the new Darkmoon Faire on it's first day. And lucky enough to fish up the Sea Pony.

Then there's the more subtle surprises which magically appear. I had no clue DBM kept such records, and made such announcements.

Bucket List? No way!

I find myself with some 'away-from-game' time, two days this week and possibly two days next week. Unusual for me, though perhaps for unknown reasons it has it's purpose for being so. We shall see.

I'm not one for making those new year resolution lists. Or "bucket lists." /lol At my current 'state-of-the-union', I'd be lucky to maintain enough focus to get through one project at a time. It's all good anyway. It's kinda sorta like randoms. Just never know what's going to happen until you (I) get there.

Not that I don't have little things I try to accomplish, either in game or here, on the blog.

About the blog: I have been making some headway with sorta dressing it up a bit. Like adding that screenie of tree leaves from the Darkmoon Faire Isle as a background. It'll probably change from time to time though as different images grab my momentary attention. :) I've never really been satisfied with my attempts at an "About" page here. I really need to spend some time with that this week. Just don't hold your breath in the meantime! Then there's my blog reading lists...yes, multiple lists. They could stand a bit of cleaning up and organization. The one positive move I've made thus far, is to make sure I comment on at least one blog I regulary read each day. I enjoy reading so many WoW blogs, I should at least let authors know their efforts are appreciated. My thoughts at least.

In game: A whole other world of multiple lists of things I attempt from time to time. I really cannot remember the number of alts I've created over the years and all their specific purposes in mind at the time. Off-hand, I'd venture to say that the current number of characters is between 20 and 25. Many are also collecting dust atm, lol.

Aygaren is the main attention getter. He's just leveling way to fast though while practicing his skills enough to feel confident about entering random dungeons as a tank. I need to cut off his supply of XP for a bit. As soon as I figure out how to, anyway. Some of his practice has included going solo on early level dungeons, imagining a group with him. How he positions things and where a possible group may be positioned. Other practice has been with world questing, but gathering up 3-4 mobs at a time instead of just single targets.

Achievements: a source of constant distractions. As with collecting companion pets and sometimes mounts. These need to be channeled more effectively, somehow. Over the years, the sum of all characters would perhaps easily compile at least two Loremaster titles, but no single character holds said title. The same condition exists for pets, mounts and possibly all the faction exalted reps. One would think by now that I'd have at least one character with several desirable titles. Alas, I don't. It would be nice I think to finally rectify these conditions. Someday. What's that I hear? It's almost time for the Lunar Festival to begin?

So the cause for all this rambling on is due to my own distinct random ways of doing things. I have a lot of fun with the game for sure, which is good. Although, I would also like to be better at it overall. Someone needs to shoulder the responsibility for this change.

I'm looking at you, Aygaren.

Method to the UI Madness

My last UI mumbles weren't just out of the blue. :) I had (still have) fairly good reason for all the changes. They come in the name of Aygaren. Remember him? That Tauren pally who wants to L2tank?

The basic goals of adjusting the UI were such: Useable across all characters; maintaining current/already known keybinds and, "field of view." Little things like swapping out different character rotation spells/attacks to match the keybinds sort of came with the territory, minor stuff.

Not that far from the subject, I happen to like reading several specific columns over at WoWInsider. The "Know Your Lore" column tops the list I guess. If I'm particulary working a specific class, there are the class specific columns nice and sometimes helpful to read. One such column I've followed regulary is the "UI of the Week." Each week a player submission is offered up and discussed. It's just been quite useful over the years for seeing different UI set-ups and the add-ons the player used. I'm am pretty sure it was somewhere in one of these year end columns, that I recall a slight mention of a UI trend which moves everything over to the side of the screen, instead of the staple bottom of screen.

Dufit, (my resident Horde testing subject) got the call to come up with something along this line and to determine it's usefulness. Part one, the set-up, got all arranged with only minor adjustments for everything to fit within the KG panel. There was some slight action bar position changes per personal taste, though everything pretty much held it's original settings otherwise. Dufit field tested the set-up, things went along pretty well, so now all the brothers in arms are field testing as well. Here's what the set-up looks like:

I was pretty good with the previous UI set-up (last UI post here). It looked good, worked out pretty well for me and all. Although I had managed to make that bottom bar panal as small as possible yet still useable enough for me to quick sight things I normally click outside of rotation, I still had the feeling that I didn't have quite enough open viewing area along the bottom. Here again, personal taste. Along with the thoughts that most groups Aygaren might possibly tank for could possibly end up in that area slightly hidden from my view. All things considered, the basic line-up of tank>melee>dps>healer, I had a little fear that one or some might end up LoS poor. I know. I'm being nit-picky. But the concern for me is real so the possibility of a side based UI went into motion.

So, most everything got moved off to the right side. My unit frame, casting bar/info, focus and target of focus frames got moved down some more. Omen became a bit smaller, but is easily sizeable during play as needed. And, there is plenty of open viewing area around these bottom elements now.

I like it. Initial field tests out in the open world of questing are showing good promise. Dungeon tests are yet to come. What do you think of it? Have you used something simular before? Any suggestions/thoughts are welcome.

Aygaren's Letter

Aygaren writes to me of his adventures, at least once in awhile.

"I was doing this kinda long mercenary thing in Felwood the other day, inside some barrow den the cenerion folks wanted recovered from some baddies. A rather long and drawn out venture deep into the earth. Having just finished off the baddie on their hit list, their voices spoke to me in my head. Obviously, they had more in mind for me to do than they first let on to know.

Sure enough, they had a second, albeit slightly bigger baddie they wished to be removed. So I started the trek deeper into this barrow just knowing within, that there was surely more to come. Of coarse, there's plenty of guards and watchers along the way, but so far no big problems.

Then from around the corner, running up out of this den comes some puny Alliance human paladin. He's not on my current hit list, so I simply go around him and continue smacking down any and all that get in the way. Some days, the blood just has to fly every-which-way...this was one of those days. Shield flying about, mace beating heads in. Yes, it's a good day.

Then I caught sudden sight of someone following me, but holding back a ways. Turned out to be that puny human I saw running out earlier. Taking time for a quick snack and drink, I pondered the possible reasons for his behaviour. He's not showing any signs of possible aggression, so I decided to just sorta move on while keeping one eye behind me. Being a Paladin himself, I was thinking he'd at least show some sign of respect. Nothing. Just quietly following me, watching as I dismissed one after another with ease.

The second so-called big baddie went down rather easily. As expected, that voice announced it's arrival right on cue, with yet another request to rid the world of these evil creatures. This continued on through a fourth bossy type baddie before the end was in sight. All the while, the humie followed in silence. After the third guy went down, I actually tried to communicate with said humie. Gave him one right and proper salute I did. Nothing. No response. Just waited for me to move on to the next. Apparently, he had been here before. Which made me wonder all that much more about his actions.

The fifth and surely the last baddie kinda caught my tracking skills off a beat. I thought he was down in a pit of sorts so off I went. Turned out, I had to back track a bit after some minor dismissals and head up and around on a ramp to reach him. I really should have noticed this, but it didn't quite register. When I had started down, I recall seeing the humie head up. He had quickly joined back with me though, so I just though he was the one lost. Oops.

I got up the ramp to a bridge, where said baddie was on the other side waiting. Big. I mean really BIG. Time for another quick snack and drink while I ponder my attack plans. The humie waits. I let him wait. After all, I can charge in there just so many ways and it would be nice to know a little bit about the area he seems to have kinda all to himself.

*Sigh* Last one, get it done. Up I jump and start across the bridge. The humie is somewhat faster with his puny build, he's over the middle several steps ahead of me and opens fire. He takes a hit, it don't look good at all. Earthmother, give me strength. I jump on this big baddie. I knew I could take him down and down he went rather quickly.

Humie got the kill. Humie then quickly jumped into the portal provided by said employers of this merry jaunt. Not a word or sign from him, no farewell or thanks for saving his puny backside. Left me standing there, waiting to see if this monster might muster a second life. Perhaps I'll be lucky and he was just unconsious for a bit. Hmmm, I sorta needed that pay off for going through all this.

As luck would have it, said monster suddenly rose to life once more and the battle was on. Hurummmph! Me, Aygaren the victor! Then it dawned on me. Said humie had already tried this and failed. The only logical reason he would have had for following me all the way back through this dark place when he was so close to the front door. I walked through the portal, collected my payments and set off for a quiet rest in Org. During the trip, I vowed to self if I ever see that humie again in Felwood, I will irritate every mob within reach and let them feast on him. Surely, Earthmother will understand." ~Aygaren

Some of you may remember way back when I first ventured into the world of add-ons and UI changes. If not, the UI post with screenies is here.

I confess to being rather slow in doing such things for reasons I'll not bore you with. I must take my time with them. I do a little here and a little there, play with them for some time to get a good feel for the changes, then take time to consider the next change. To bring everyone up to date more or less, here is the current list of add-ons I'm using. Also note that instead of linking each one, I get all my add-ons from Curse.com, via the curse client. Makes installation quite easy :)

Healers Have To Die (Khrox's battleground favorite, lol)

The KG Panels, along with tweeking out Bartender4 and adjusting my camera max distance, are the most recent adjustments I've made. One of the other important considerations I keep in mind during all changes, is the ability to use my set-up across all characters. Important for two reasons. I don't want to go through changing the overall appearance, and I don't want to be changing keybinds.

I've got my KG panels thingy about as small as possible, where I can still recognize the icons at a glance if needed. My main rotations are keybound to the same keys across all characters. This required moving some spells and such through Bartender4, but no big deal. I just needed to use the same keybinds for my own memory sake, lol.

Now that most everything is pretty well contained in the bottom portion of my game screen, I further tweeked my "camera max distance" view to 35. (settings range from 0-50, default is around 15? as I recall) This was done for the benefit of Aygaren learning to tank, and needing to see more of what was all around him including the deeps squad and healer positions. I started with distance 35 which may or may not change after a few try-outs. My middle mouse scroll button still covers camera zooming for on the spot needs. There are still a couple of other camera settings I'll probably try out in time. What I've managed to do so far is good though.

Other minor notes: Recount isn't all that necessary any more, though still has some uses. I have it set to auto-hide when in combat, so it works well on top of Omen which I do use in combat. And, though all my characters gain duel-specialazations abilities, I haven't really worked with those changes to the action bars yet. Yep, I'm one for staying in my main chosen spec because I like it that way.

Keybinds and macros are set to the left of the minimap, clickable off spells/self heals and such to the right of map. Professions, food, drink, necessary pots/flasks and such are in the two down-sized right side bars. Very much out of the way.

Quartz-must have for me! Centered above but near the KG panels, leaving room for the timers and such to show. My own character frame is to the left, slightly lower. And my focus frame is to the right of it, along with the "target of focus" frame.

I still have work to do on the group/party frames. For now, they show up near the top, left side of the screen as long columns of ten. I would like to tweek them to more of a 'block' style. Some sort of a 5x5 thing or such.

Bagon: shows all bags as one. Mouse over an item, I get a total count of it plus seperate counts of in bag and in bank. Along with the quantities of all alts on that server and wheather in bank or bag. Pretty useful for me.

Chatter allows me personal customization of the chat box and various seperate channels as I use them.

All in all, it's been a slow learning process which I'm quite happy with so far. Everything just looks so much better, and is easy to navigate and manipulate when necessary. Add-on's can be very useful to your game play. Personally, I use them sparingly and as learning tools. Most all that I have, are really basic when compared to more serious players/raiders. That is just my personal view though, I am something of a minimalist in my ways, lol. So...

...if you're new to the game world of add-on's and UI adjustments, take your time. Start out with just one, maybe two. Get them set-up and use them for a bit. Then proceed at your own pace. In time, you'll probably come up with something quite useful for yourself, and have fun using it.

If you happen to be pretty good with game mods and UI's yourself, feel free to add any helpful suggestions for beginners in the comments. Most of my post here is about what I use, not how to use them. Though I will mention that most add-on's come with a readme.txt and usually a link to their website and possibly tutorials. As I recall, a couple were 'good to go out of the box,' to which I made only minor adjustments over time. But this was according to my personal tastes and useage. Your milage will certainly vary.

You know you've been playing WoW for a while when...

you pull a mob at range, kill it, loot it and pull the next mob...

before the first one hits the ground. At level 12-ish.

Okay, it was just one of those random thoughts that passed by. Along with the other one over game time about to become rather spotty and random between 20-Dec and 3-Jan. Hurumph...the nerve of rl people interupting my realities. Azeroth needs it's heros! Speaking of which...

Aygaren, now in his late thirty-somethings, has no fear of jumping into the frays inside Grommosh Hold. After all, he can fling a mean shield along with a few hammers. And it's not because he cares all that much for Garrosh. He just has this bone to pick with the Alliance, who seem to like raiding Grommosh Hold on a frequent basis.

At thirty-something, Aygaren can't really do a lot of damage to level capped pvp raiders. In fact, most of his shots tend to miss and do nothing at all. He would probably do more good switching specs in such cases and passing out light weight heals on fellow defenders. But no. He's a 'wanna-be-a-tank' pally and insists on fighting the best he can. So all in all, he was really surprised when in the middle of tossing shields about, this came up:

Yep. One purely magical moment when a shield actually found it's mark at just the right millasecond to send a level capped Ally to his maker. Be it magic, RNG good fortune or whatever, Aygaren enjoyed his moment of celebration. Moving along now. (wish I was quicker with the screenshot button, lol)

I recall back when, sort of, when I saw my first mechanochopper in the game. Stopping stone cold on the spot, I looked at this thing in total amazement and awe. Wondering to self, "Self-what is this world coming to?" The amazement lasted about 10 seconds I think. Then the level capped owner dismounted and proceeded to one-shot me. Then came the rocket ships, and pink ones to boot. And let's not forget the Sparkle Ponies flitting about. Someone actually paid real money for that!?! I just shook my head and went about my Azerothian business.

All the Brothers in Arms now have their first mounts, very glad to give their tired feet or hooves a much needed rest. Aygaren don't particulary care for Belfs, but has become tolerant of one who happens to be his class trainer in Org. Tolerant because, the Belf granted him both riding and a great looking Kodo mount for less than 1 gold piece! Such a deal. Really!

Gizzel has hopped on the motorized mount wagon. Yep, he got his first Trike, and actually loves tooling around in it.

Birzak got his raptor, a rather expensive venture. Oh, he mentioned that he was a little too busy for picture taking that day.

And Gandom came into a wolf, for a moderate fee of coarse.

Gandom also has a new companion! Such a happy little thing she is. Although, she does tend to randomly stop in mid-stride, or mob fight, to cross over into some sort of realm of oblivion. At least she does manage to catch up rather quickly when her reality snaps back in.

Last but not least, there's Bossy. How the heck she got herself in some out of the way upstairs room unable to get down the stairs, is just pure mystery. And she's not speaking of how or why.

Okay, one for the road: Gandom came across this friendly little fella whilist flower picking in the snow.

OH, and my new phrase for the week is courtesy of the Forsaken:

Sol's Travel Journel

Everything has been kinda quiet around here, to some dismay. I've been at battle with some sort of corrupting force within a persistant ear infection of sorts. Needless to say I guess, it's put quite a damper on my game time/enjoyment, and keeping up with the blog and community. As with all things, I'm fairly sure it's time will pass, eventually.

Sol's Travel Journel: The Great Horde Project - It's been, different, to say the least. Trying to break from years of certain game play styles, to set forth into new areas and roads never traveled before has seen some challenges. Making progress in overcoming these challenges is slow going, but making headway.

The desire to keep going off in so many different directions needed to be reined in, and focus set on just a couple of goals in hopes of attaining some moderate success. Server choices are now pretty much settled on just one, with two strays over on another. The line-up of new kids is set now as well.

On our "main" horde active server, we have a four-man crew tenitively referred to as "brothers-in-arms." The birth and leveling order saw some changes. Who came first, is now second. While who came fourth is now third. Go figure. The speed at which new characters level now certainly plays a part in this, although I also see some play in the chosen classes as well. Anyway, here's the main team intros and a short word or two about each.

Aygaren--Tauren Paladin: currently level 33 with blacksmithing and mining as main professions. I had actually 'grounded' him earlier this week for leveling way too fast and not getting into any dungeons as yet. His main purpose in life is to learn how to tank. We've had discussions about this. Aygaren feels somewhat ready, but I have this overt dislike for pugging in the dungeon tool. He's been advised to find a suitable guild to run and learn with. So far, he's come up empty handed.

Birzak--Troll BM Hunter: sitting at level 28 with leatherworking and skinning professions. This really wasn't a difficult choice. Khrox has had some fairly good success as a BM, so I expect that Birzak will do at least as well, if not better. Personally, I've got copper coins on Birzak doing better.

Gizzel--Goblin BM Hunter: Level 15. Why two hunters? Just an easy choice to be honest. The project had a lot to do with seeing the story and lore from Horde eyes. I'm not crazy about Goblins. Several have tried and failed in the past. So, I really wanted Gizzel to succeed for two reasons. The Goblin viewpoint and Goblin engineering. Somehow, I expected that the hunter class would make it all worth the effort.

Gandom--Orc Mage: Level 13. Gandom rounds out the team pretty well. Along with his frost magic, he's acquired tailoring and skinning skills. Perhaps not the best combination, but helpful in supporting himself as the others have had to learn how to do. Here again, the mage class is fairly familar to work with so at least moderate success is expected.

These 'brothers-in-arms' spent most of the past week goofing off at the Darkmoon Faire. Each one accumulated various achievements. Aygaren faired the best though, with both the Sea Pony companion and a dungeon artifact from going solo on Ragefire Chasm to his credit. Next week will see them getting back to the journeys at hand. At least until Winter Veil sets in on Azeroth.

It's Tuesday-full maintenance day! Fully expected this to be after all the rolling restarts and hotfixes this past week.

Let's do a little round-up this morning.

I recently read an informative and entertaining post about pocket lint over at Tomb of the Ancient. Go have a read if you already haven't, good stuff.

More about IntPiPoMo: A little earlier this week I was treated to a final installment of this challenge over at Bag Overflow. A totally awesome video was offered up to assist in completing the challenge, which imho, is well deserving and a must see! Grats to Bag Overflow for such a fantastic and unique ending to their IntPiPoMo participation.

Okay, a small personal thought here. Today, as I was going through my reader, I came across another long time blogger I've been reading for I can't remember how long. The post was about stepping back now to favor and give more attention to real life. This is a good thing for this blogger, or any blogger who makes this choice. I'm sure everyone commends and supports, "family/real life, comes first."

I now return you to killing those internet dragons, and other such stuff. :)

Ending this morning's round-up on another happy note, let me ask you, "Who else can talk about having so much !#%& fun in game with such a unique and straight-forward style, as Big Bear Butt delivers? Maybe a few, idk. But I always enjoy reading BBB.

Aygaren's Lucky Day

The new Darkmoon Faire opened up today...YAY!! All the kids were clamoring to go, as expected. Not everyone was able to make the journey though.

Although several of the kids were able to make the journey today, none came away with as much happiness as Aygaren. At level 23, he really didn't expect too much this month. Oh, btw...Aygaren is part of the Great Horde Project, a Tauren Prot Pally.

Aygaren

Aygaren has been enjoying questing for the most part, and finally settled on blacksmithing and mining for his trades. He's made his way through Mulgore, a bit of Durotar and Ashenvale. His current romp is in Stonetalon.

Today though he traveled to the DMF. Found himself some quests for fishing and cooking which up'ed his skill levels quite a bit. And for only one (1) ticket, he came across a 14-slot DMF bag!! This was pure treasure for him, having only 6 and 8 slots all this time.

Then, while doing the little fishing quest at DMF, he heard someone shout with glee over catching the Sea Pony pet. There were a lot of people fishing while he was there, and he had heard about how rare this was supposed to be. Aygaren contented himself to just a 10-minute fishing shot for the quest catch. When he turned in the fish to the vendor, he found quite a surprise in his bag he didn't even notice during the fishing time.

Yep, little bitty Aygaren was the only one of the kids today who walked away with the biggest, goofyest smile on his face. He was so happy, he even splurged on some fireworks to celebrate.

Rumbles and Grumbles, w/pics

Like the post title says, this is a rumble, (it's very early morn here and my tummy hasn't had it's dose of coffee just yet), grumble, (ah-cause I just might grumble *rant* a bit), and in keeping with Blizzards move to balance everything, I'll supply some pics to balance out the aforementioned rumble-grumbles.

The eagerly awaited 4.3 patch is live. There's been a healthy dose of reactions over it around the community, mostly from the pve raiders perspective. Leading up to this, there's been plenty of amazing vids to watch as well. All well and good. I'm quite happy for everyone who's able to raid, and experience this portion of end-game. Okay, long time readers have already guessed the next part.

I am both jealous and saddened that I have yet to raise up a viable raider. Sol never did quite make the cut and semi-retired himself to parts unknown. Khrox blasted his way to 85 through quests and late life bg's. He's fully pvp geared with no dungeon experience worth a hoot. He opened up his LFR toolbox. It told him he didn't have the qualifacations to use it. Kaimara is currently pvp geared with very little bg experience. She has some minor pve dungeon experience, but alas, no where near achieving entry raid level. Yet another end of expansion big baddie raid available, and here my alter-selves sit, twiddleing their thumbs. Tapping fingers on the desk asking me "WHY?" "Why haven't you got us THERE yet?" It's just like kids, always wanting more. And I haven't quite been able to give them the world, as much as I would like to.

Kaimara

It is this part of end-game which constantly haunts me. It is also one of the several reasons for the birth of The Great Horde Project. This is an open-ended self project I started a few weeks ago. I may have mentioned it a time or two here. It began rather simplistically minded, experience the lore and story from the other side of the fence through the eyes of various races within the faction. It's been great. Each character thus far has provided experiences greatly appreciated by the button masher.

It was all good through level 12, then some difficulties started to rise. They suddenly became Hellscreams' minions, fighting his war, like it or not. Then there's the part where they're really all alone traveling through this new world. Traveling expenses became an issue, along with training fees to survive in Hellscreams' War. You get the picture. No sugar-daddys, no heirlooms, it's survival one day at a time. Can you remember those times from way back when? Although the project birthed itself on several likely servers, it is now apparently focused on one realm. I gather these kids, have decided to it home.

It's AB battleground weekend. I love AB. Birzak was level 19, he que'd for AB. It told him he should probably expect to wait at least 10 minutes and probably more. Birzak dropped from que. Did I mention that the crew is on a PvE server? Obviously, bg's aren't going to be much help. /facepalm Well, I really need to concentrate on the main goal. Focus button-masher, FOCUS! There's two hunters, a mage, and a wanna-be tank pally. Get with the program kids. Dungeons. You want DUNGEONS! Jump in and go for it. Ignor the chat box and all the pve jerk-twads. Just get in now while you're still young enough to grow in these ways. Maybe by the time the Panda's arrive, you'll finally be ready. BTW- I'm lousy terri-bad at melee. Always been a ranged caster. The wanna-be pally tank is going to be a real challenge.

The Night Before

'Twas the night before the patch. The day's game play is over, the nightly reading done. Soooo,

all things look like a go for Tuesday maintenance to be the long awaited 4.3 patch. It's been coming for some time now, and players everywhere have had opportunities to prepare for it in each of their ways. There's even been a number of blog posts around the community with very sound advice as to how to prepare for this patch release. It's all good, dear reader.

I, like many others, sorted through all this advice gleeming what I thought useful for my several level capped characters (and those close to cap). This time around though, I've taken a somewhat different approach. Such as: Khrox (the BM hunter/pvp'er) really should have spent some time capping out his honor/conquest points in preperation. Smart thing to do, which he didn't do. Instead, he just lazed around the past several weeks doing nothing more than /gquit the pvp guild he was in. Oh, he has a chunk of hp's, and a handful of conquest (which will end up converted) stored up. Any extra effort though seemed worthless for him. We'll get to why in a minute or so.

Cle was also in that same guild, key word, was. He's not quite level capped yet though so he's not really at any loss. Kaimara is in a different guild, though hasn't been active enough with them, or even with them that long. Her stance is one of those, "let's wait and see how it goes." The core of this matter with the three of them is this: the server they call home.

I've been on that server since about the beginning of time (my time). I've seen it's up's and down's. You can actually feel the differences each time the population rises and falls. The server is in a down-trend at this time. IMO, a very deep down-trend, and it's been going on for some time. I won't bore you with all my personal thoughts on this. Suffice it to say, that for me, the server just hasn't been a fun place to play for months. Character transfer is not an option, so everyone justs sits and waits it out.

No problem really. I do have characters spread across enough servers to stay active and enjoy the game. None of them though, are any where near end-game content, and that's okay as well. Plenty to do, lots of options. Enter from stage left, the Great Horde Project!

Being an Alliance player for so long prompted me to spread wings and see things from the opposite factions' eyes. Yep, more story and lore time, YAY! After several server hit and runs, I finally settled on one which seems to viable enough for this project. Started out with a Troll hunter, since I've already got a good dose of Undead somewhere else. Troll hunter didn't really like being all alone though, so after a bit of leveling, he aquired a Tauren pally companion (I also wanted to try tanking). Things are going good so far, I can now see through Tauren eyes. Then, along came this stray Goblin hunter. While not too far behind, there followed an Orc mage. Strange though, the Orc is the only one who don't seem to have some form of dislike/distrust for Garrosh.

So that's where I'm at in game. I would really like to raise several of these Horde characters to cap and experience their full story. I'm sure that after the patch has been out for a few days and the initial dust settles, Khrox and company will jump into their battlegrounds for a bit. In the meantime, the young Horde's are at the beginning of their journey.

This will be my last offering for Angelya's IntPiPoMo Challenge. This was a really fun and interesting challenge to do. Seeing the game through other peoples' eyes always seems to foster a rush of memories and reminders of your own first experiences around Azeroth. I have really enjoyed going around our blogging community. There has been such an out-pouring of creative and beautiful screenshots. As a sometime screenie collecter myself, this challenge has been like a child's trip to a large candy store filled with worldly chocolates. Kk, enough babble.

Sol sent word out to the kids in hopes that one of them might be in the middle of any of his favorite world zones. (he has quite a few favorites) With so many kids about, his outlook was pretty good. Sure enough, Kaimara was padding her reputation stash with Therazane, and was flitting about Deepholm with camera in bag.

It's been something of a quiet night for me, so I've been out and about the WoW blogging community reading stories. Just sort of chillin' out. During one of these most pleasurable reads, I fell into thoughts of time in game which has passed into history. Hence, this trip down Memory Lane.

During Sol's tour of duty in WotLK, he spent an awful amount of time fishing for this mount. That meant at least a half-hour out of every day of game play, for nearly the total expansion time. That's right, almost the total time of the xpac. As I recall, it was only two or three days before Cataclysm, when he finally came into his own turtle mount. To this day though, the Giant Sewer Rat still eludes him.

Sol did not do this mount grind at level, although it was still the 'old school' grind before all the zone and quest re-vamps. He holds a great amount of respect for those before him who accomplished this feat, at level.

Being the first real character to actually level cap, Sol spent many of his early years simply solo questing. He wasn't all that good at dungeons or battlegrounds, and he didn't really understand that faction reps held good rewards. So it came to be that this Albino Drake is the only drake within his stable of mounts. He earned it in later life out of a love for collecting things.

Sol was a real loner, and still clings to those roots even today. His real home is in Darnassas, and can often be found comtemplating conditions of the world at the Temple of the Moon.

When Sol goes off on various adventures, he can easily find the most secluded of places to camp out for the night.

Sol missed out on many adventures, mostly due to his solitary ways. Kaimara was gracious enough though to bring home every detail of the Wrathgate experience.

Sol is, The Explorer. He has seen many different worlds, before and after.

Everyone has their memories of times past, and thoughts of times present. Let alone, speculations over things which are yet to come. Anyway you look at it though, World of Warcraft is still a great game, still offering so many different ways to play. I still discover new things each time I enter Azeroth.
