Candy Bar Angel Party Favor

While searching the web for a Christmas party favor I came across some adorable ideas but I decided on this Angel Candy Bar from Laurie Furnell's Blog. She has some adorable Candy Bar Wrapper patterns for free.

Basically you just fold it in thirds around a average size Hershey bar and with a glue stick, dab it closed.

I didn't have a crimper to crimp the wings so I just left them flat. I think it is just as cute.

She suggested using some gold thread for the hair but I decided to use my own creativity to embellish it.

I used a gold glittered pipe cleaner for the halo and a piece of raffia/ribbon to tie it, & also added a red jewel sticker just for a little bling.

With some quilt batting to stuff a basket, I stood them all up, so they would be easy for guests to take as they left. With the color copies, candy bars and embellishments the cost was a bargain at just over $1.00 a piece.

These Adorable Favors were a Christmas Party for the Ladies Group at my church. Angels were the perfect thing as they are all angels to me! A Fun and Super Cute idea to Thank your guests for coming!

Not Great Before and Afters!

I have been working on a kitchen design project that I am going to share with you. I started the job helping the clients pick out a new sink and stainless appliances, thinking that's all I was going to be doing. UNFORTUNATELY :( I did not take very many "before" pictures. So you'll have to rely on my explanations. I had done their kitchen some 13 years ago and now they were ready for an update.
We purchased new stainless appliances and a sink to begin... changed the brass cabinet knobes to stainless and instant update.

Here was their wallpaper & chair rail on the main kitchen wall... BEFORE

I added beadboard wainscotting to the bottom of the wall & painted the wall two tones of a sage green, painted the chair rail cream to match the ceiling,

added a beautiful border and... WOW

AFTER

I also added a darling new mini chandelier with lamp shades and some decorative plates to the back wall.

To the side wall we replaced her shelf with a fresh coat of cream paint and added some of her favorite
antique kitchen pieces. I also added a black tin with white flowers and a bunch of dried florals tied with a bow...all to mimic what was going on in the border. this green color was such a great choice as it adds a freshness and a very new updated feeling to their tired kitchen.

To the front window wall we added a beautiful valance in shades of blue, green, and white.

You will also notice the new granite countertops, faucet, & stainless sink in this photo.

(The setting on my camera did not do a good job of capturing the colors here,

but I think you can get the idea).

I would have loved to show you the rest of the job, but just didn't get the photos to do it.

All the years I have been doing design I have not bothered to take before and after pictures...well in this job.

I learned a big lesson ...plan to take Great Before and After photos!

My Very Own Pumpkin Patch!

In the early part of August I noticed that those pumpkin seeds that I had planted in July were actually producing A pumpkin. I was so excited that I might have a pumpkin for the Fall. Well as time has gone by that one pumpkin has turned into My Very Own Pumpkin Patch. Who Hoo! As you may have seen from my earlier summer posts I am by no means a gardener. Well What do you know... the Good Lord sent Rain and Gorgeous Weather and gave me a pumkin patch of 8-10 pumpkins growning in my garden.

What to do with all that Plastic?

I have been trying to take my own grocery bags to the grocery store these days. I must admit I often forget and have to use the plastic bags offered by the store. And thats not all that bad either as I do recycle them for other uses in my home. However I didn't really have a place for them and I ended up stuffing them under my sink. When I would open the cabinet door they would fall out. Well I am happy to say I found a nice solution, neat and orderly, the way I like it my under sink area .

the bags are folded much the same way you fold a flag.

Lay the bag flat and the fold each side in.... and then in a third time...

Then fold diagonally like you would a flag...back and forth...

then tuck the last little flap in...

they come out so nice and neat. I just threw them in a little plastic container and was amased at how little space they took.

Love, love, LOVE organization! It makes me happy!

Special Ocassion Booklet!

I have a stack of cards that I have received from people over the years from special occasions. The messages that people have written to me are so special that I want to keep the cards. I have been looking for an idea of what I could do with them rather than just let them collect dust in a drawer or throw them out. After looking at some of the scrapbooking books, this gave me a great idea.....making a special occasion booklet.

I stacked some of my cards according to size.

And then hole punched them like a book.

And I found these cute little clip rings to use to bind the cards into a book.

Slowly adding the cards to the three rings to create a book.

You can still turn to each of the cards and open them to read them.
Love it.

it could use a little embellishment, just for fun.

So cute you could even set it on a table for display. So cute!

I think the mantle would be a nice display too.

Now I can view the cards in the little special occasion booklet, & whenever I am blessed enough to receive a new special card I'll add to my book. Fun Fun!

Keep Calm!

There has been a fun new craise online with the phrase "Keep Calm and Carry On!

This poster originated by the British Government in 1939 just before the start of World War II to calm the fears of the public in the case of an invasion. The posters were distributed all over the country of England. There are only two original copies left to day. But in the yr 2000 the phrase resurfaced and has become a
catch phrase in the U.S., Keep Calm and.... add your own ending.

And even a cute rug at the front door to remind you to Keep Calm. There also are varaitions of the same idea changing the wording altogether..

Sister Fun at Bearizona!

Recently I noticed half price tickets to "Bearizona" on "Groupon", couldn't resist. With the days of summer winding down, my sis and I decided to make one more day trip for some sister time and Fun! Bearizona has been on our summer bucket list for a while now so we decided to make the 30 mile trek west of Flagstaff to Bearizona. It's a small drive through wildlife park with animals from the habitats of Arizona. I loved it so much and we had the best time I had to share it with you.

Up close and personal is an understatement!

A very nice bird show as well...

A walk through zoo area, with bear cubs and farm animals.

So if you're in Flagstaff for a few days you just might want to check out this neat llittle wildlife park.

The Lord Blessed us with a perfect day, of blue skies, 78*, and a beautiful drive back home.

At it again... with a Classroom Bouquet!

Yep I'm at it again. My sister thinks I've lost it, "decorating her classroom"? Well yes, I have decided that it is very much like decorating the home. What we are really after here is Comfort. Feeling comfortable in a space. We want our children above all, to be comfortable and "at home" so to speak here in this enviornment so they can have the best chance for learning. I think making that space Beautiful and Fun is what it's all about. And so... while my sister was away last weekend I also made her a cute little flower arrangement for her desk. I am sure you have seen many versions of this..... here is mine.

Using an old wine gift box, I cut it down to the size of the pencils.

then glued blue construction paper around it so the wine design would not be seen.

Glued the pencils all around the box in a rainbow pattern.

Tied a cute school themed ribbon around it and added some colorful Gerber Daises.

You can count on Bright Primary Colors to make a Big Impact.

They look really Cute Cheerful and Inviting on her desk!

A great gift for Teacher Appreciation....and to show you sis how much you love her!

Another Super Cute Classroom Idea

While searching the classroom websites for ideas for my sister Sue, I came across another idea that I thought would be totally cute for her room. She didn't have an idea for her door quite yet so I saw this wreath to make for the door. She was off on a little weekend vacation so I decided to surprise her.

Again really easy to make and very inexpensive! I bought a styrafoam wreath 12-14" and covered it with ribbon. You could use any ribbon or fabric and just wrap the wreath to cover up the back and what shows through. I just used whatever I had in my craft closet, so it cost me next to nothing.

I purchased some crayons for $.25 a box...great sales for back to school going on. 4 boxes, but I think I only used three. Lay them out in a rainbow pattern.

Start glueing the crayolas onto the wreath with a glue gun, making sure the word crayola is facing up. Gradually curve the crayons around. I have seen the wreath made with the crayon points facing out instead of in...it might be easier to keep them straight, either way is fine.

I had tied a piece of ribbon on to hang it with, but I wanted to embellish the wreath with some flowers or something. I happened to have some cute school fabric...so I cut a long strip 36" X 3" or so and folded it in half and sewed it up to make a ribbon and bow to hang it with. Next I cut another piece about the same size, cut it in half and gathered it up into a circle to create a flower and glued them on with some cute sunflower buttons that I had . To make the chalkboard I just cut a piece of black scrapbooking paper and framed it in white and wrote on it with crayon to create chalkboard look added another button.

I think it turned out really cute and she was surprised when she went into her classroom on Monday morning and there it hung. Fun Fun Fun Craft Idea !

Super Cute Classroom Stools

I have had a very busy summer this year and one of my projects has been to help my sister with her classroom. She has a new teaching position at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church and Elementary School, here in Flagstaff., teaching grades 1-4. (An awesome school that my three kids attended, I might add) I couldn't be more thrilled for her, and I wanted to do whatever I could to help her with her classroom. We have had a ball putting up bulletin boards, arranging desks and tables, and cutting out all kinds of construction paper projects to make her life a little easier once school starts.

We came across some cute little stools online, and I decided to try my hand at making them.

You start with the little plastic file box cubicles that you see at all the discount stores... Black seemed like a good versitle color.

Next I took a trip to Home Depot and purchased a piece of lumber 2' X4' 1/2' plywood and had one of the employees cut three pieces to fit the top of the boxes just inside the lip. They had pretty rough edges so I sanded the sides down a little and rounded the corners to fit perfectly inside the lip of the box.

We also purchased 1/2 yard each of three different colors of checkered table cloth vinyl (so she will be able to just wipe it clean) and the I quilt batting I already had. Next I cut the fabric about 2 inches bigger than the wood piece and folded it over.

Then I added some batting about the size of the top of the wood , about three folds thick, and placed it under the fabric.

Using my trusty staple gun I stapled the fabric to the back of the board all around, pulling the fabric taut, and folding the corners in like a present. If you wanted to be really neat you could cover the board with another piece of fabric to cover the raw wood. But I decided it was fine left alone.

Then the top fits very nicely onto the box lip and can be easily removed.

You can also use the bottom box portion for storage.

I remembered just as I loaded them into the car.

Total cost...a whopping $9.00 a piece

For a "Traditional Old fashioned School House Theme" this will be Super Cute for her classroom don't you think?

Bloomin Flowers!

Please understand that I do not have a green thumb, I do not spend much time weeding...I do not water as often as I should or fertilize or any of the things thsat one should do. I even live in Flagstaff where gardens are challenging. But the Good Lord sent rain and sunshine and WOW My Garden is bloomin...

I know it's not Martha Stewarts Hydrangeas bushes or fields of Lavendar, or anything like that, but for little ole me it's beautiful! I was reminded of a recent trip to visit my pecious daughter in L.A., how much I LOVE flowers. She took us to the Flower Markets in downtown Los Angeles.

Fresh from the gardens of California, Roses and Carnations and Lilies of all kinds and Baby's Breath and filler flowers, and Hydrangeas and Daises of all kinds and Orchids, and on and on and on.

We had such a fun day roaming through the iles of flowers. If you ever get a chance to go it's well worth your time to see all that glorious color. For now I'll enjoy my back yard flower garden.

Simple Trick for Folding Sheets.

Folding sheets can be challenging at times. Have your ever gone to the linnen closet to find sheets falling out? Here is a simple method that I found that is very easy to master and looks very nice in the cupboard. No more messes! First fold your fitted sheet with the corners folded under each other and in half.

Then fold each side to the middle to create a long skinny fold.

Now fold your flat sheet and place it right in the middle of the fitted one.

Next fold the pillow cases and place them on top of the flat sheet.

Now fold the fitted sheet in a few times...

And then over the top...

Voila ! A nice neat little package to put in the cupboard.

It's so nice to have everything right there together, to just grab when your ready to change the sheets.

What to do with all those Corks?

I have been seeing lots of fun uses with wine corks. When you share a nice bottle of wine with someone it's kinda fun to keep the cork as a memory. Writing on the cork with the date and putting the place where you drank it, is a fun idea too.

That is something I have always wanted to do that but I am sorry to say I have missed that opportunity. I made a wine cork wreath years ago and to this day I still get so may compliments on it.

I purchased a straw wreath back and just went to glue gunning the corks on, free form style. then I added the greenery and the bear. I looks nice in my wine bar don't you think.

I have been seeing a lot of Crocheted clothing lately. The Granny Square was very popular in the 70-80's in the home in afgahns, pillows, bedding, tablecloths, and potholders. I couldn't imagine it being used in clothing but sure enough it made the runnway at a charity fashion show just lately. Doesn't this take you back to another time?

What do you think will we being wearing Granny Square Fashions next fall? I think maybe it's better in the home...but I'm not sure about this granny square? I love Crocheted things. Here are a few examples .

Wash Cloth Bunnies!

Here is one more fun idea for your Easter Table. Wash Cloth Bunnies!

This is a little bunny that can hold an egg and very cute for each person at your table to have one on their place setting.

Very easy and fun to make. You'll need a wash cloth... pastel colored...the cheap inexpensive ones are really the best. But I will show you just with one of my regular wash cloths. Also you'll need two rubber bands or fishing line works even better, some pompom balls 1/4" for the nose and 11/2" for the tail, and some 1/2" googly eyes. I use whatever I happen to have on hand.

Now take the washcloth and roll it up very tightly from one corner, rolling it all the way up.

Then fold it in half and tie or rubberband it in the middle very tight.

then tie or band another one about half way between the first one and the end of the cloth.

Now shape it into a bunny.

It takes a little manuvering to get it shaped, and the tighter the banding is the better the shape.

Now glue on the eyes and pompoms for the nose and tail. I also added some embroidery thread as whiskers. And some ribbon to cover up the banding.

A fun and easy Easter Idea...and it also makes a cute baby gift...You can use it to hold an ice cube for babies boo boo's.

I Hope you'll give it a try...the kiddo's will love them! A Great way to display your colored eggs!

Back to the Sugar Eggs!

A few weeks ago I did a post on how to create some beautiful and fun Sugar Easter Eggs...
Green Eggs for Easter...well it's time to get back to them and finish them up. Remember we had just molded them and were going to let them set up for about two weeks.

Now the eggs should be very hard. Take each half and using a knife and/or a spoon dig out some of the sugar to thin out the opening and clean out the inside. We need to make room for our scene and a nice viewing hole.

After you feel like your egg fits together nicely, it's time to make the icing (glue).

The receipe is as follows

Royal Icing

1lb powdered sugar

3 T meringue powder

1/4 cup water approx

1/2 tsp. cr. tartar

Mix on high, add food coloring as desired. The consistancy should be like frosting for easy decorating.

you'll need some cake decorating supplies. I use disposable bags for easy clean up, and a nice flower tip.

just fold down the the bag over your hand and fill it about half way with the icing.

You can set that aside for a few minutes while you create a little scene. Smaller is always better. I choose some little rabbitt candies.

They are a little bit to tall so I will cut them off enough to fit and I am adding jelly beans. Use a squeeze of icing as glue to hold the scene in place. When you have the scene just the way you want it, glue your top on using the icing.

don't worry to much about it showing this will all be covered up later...and this is kind of a messy project by the way.

Now for the fun!! Hold the egg in one hand and squeeze flowers out with the other all around where the top and bottom meet.

then around the window opening...and then across the top...

And then you can be creative and add another color or a different flower. I am just using the one pink color this time but I did add a few more on top and some Easter egg sprinkles as centers.

when it's all done. Let it set up for a day or two..The meringue powder will make it harden up more than regular frosting.
Here it is on my entry table with my spring bunnies.Keep in mind young children think they need to try and eat this...they are 100% edible...but it's not really for eating.. you'll have to remind them, it's a decoration.

and if you look closely you can see the scene...my camera wasn't able to capture it very well.

I hope you enjoyed this fun Easter project. Great fun to do with a small group. These panoramic eggs have been a long time tradition. Easter Eggs were orginally thought of in the religious sense as the rebirth
and a sign of the Lamb, Bunnies as a sign of fertility. The Colored Easter egg has been recorded from 500 years ago. Enjoy!

A few Hints!

Here a few hints when you are moving furniture. People often say they can't move things around without the help of a big strong man because furniture is so heavy. Well if you haven't tried "Super furniture sliders" before... You are in for a surprise! These little circles changed my life. Oh I didn't wait for a big strong man, but I did push my self and my back, probably further than I should have.

All you have to do is lift each corner of the furniture about a 1/2" and slide one of these under it and then it will slide very, very easily. They come in several sizes and also for hard surface floors as well.

No more dragging or really putting your hips into it.. to move things around, these slide so easily. I discovered these when I owned my shop and had to move furniture all the time. I'm telling you ...you can move an amoir, a entertainment center, or anything with these wonderful helpers. You can find them at Walmart.

And here is another tip that I love. When you move furniture on carpeting you are usually left with a

an ugly little inprint...

All you have to do is pull out a fork from the silverware drawer and rake it a little...

after a good vacuming and a little foot traffic you'll never know it was there.

I love helpful hints to make my life easier...hopefully you'll give them a try.

Change it Up!

I changed my family room furniture around the other day and wow do I feel renewed. Nothing like moving everything around and really cleaning to achieve a fresh new look. It is time to bring out all my spring Easter decorations and I just thought the room needed an uplift.

I thought a nice change would be to have the two chairs facing each other... and I brought in a rug from my bedroom to fill in that space in front of the fireplace. It feels much more inviting and open this way.

I was able to use one of my end tables as a small sofa table to fill in the angle from the back of the sofa, and moving that end table opened up the window view just enough to really make a difference.

It may not look that different to you, same furniture just moved around a bit...but I guarantee to the person living in the space it feels all new. Shopping your other rooms and bringing in other pieces that you haven't really looked at lately will add such a nice change! My advice this week is "change it up" and see what a difference it will make in your attitude. AAhhhh! Soooo much better!
