The students have had an awesome week. Checkpoint assessments were completed the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Iowa test scores were sent home this past week. Please contact me if you would like to discuss these results. I enjoy interpreting statistic and will be happy to go over them with you.

Come by and see our holiday Onomatopoeia pictures located on the wall outside our classroom.. The standard addressed is ELA3w1 students show an abilty to express themselves in writing. We talked about "voice" and how we can use words to express ourselves in an interesting way.

Guided Reading is focusing on a response to literature. Each group has a book appropriate for their level and each group is required to respond to what they read.

Writing Center: I have opened a writing center in the classroom. It gives the students an opportunity to work with a partner to reinforce skills taught.

Super Writers workbooks are completed daily. The students will have a sentence review on Monday and a formal assessment on Tuesday.

Please contiue to reinforce reading in your home. The more the students practice reading the better reader they will become. The children made a huge jump on their last reading test so keeep up the good work.

Math:

The students must practice their facts at home. We have introduced 1 to 7 facts. We have made models of the facts and learned the skip counting sequence for each set of facts. 8 facts will be introduced this week. The next unit of study will geometryl shapes. It is a great unit around the holidays.

Social Studies:

Paul Revere was a huge success as 99% of the students scored a "3" on their post test. Fredsrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony will be taught and tested before the break.

HOMEWORK:

There are still a few students who are not completing their homework. These students will recieve a progress report on Monday. I can see a big difference in slkills of those who complete homework and those who do not complete homework. I really need your help in this area.

Please know that I feel extremly lucky to be able to work with each child in our class. They have come together as a group and are really exciting to teach and work with as an educator. Thank you for suporting education in your home, this make a huge difference. As always, please e mail me or send a note in your child's agenda if you have questions. My door is always open to you and I want to answer your questions. Have a great weekend!

Our holiday party is on December 21st from 9:51-10:51.
We had a few changes this week, one being a new class formed in third grade. Mrs. Dunn is the new addition to our staff. We had to give up a few of our beloved classmates. Mouhannad, Marissa and Adam were moved to Mrs. Dunn's class. This is a very difficult time for all of us. Bonds have been formed and connections have been made. That being said, it will allow for less numbers that will help me from an instructional standpoint. Thank you for your understand and letting your child know that they will see their former classmates at recess, lunch, walk-fit and special occasions. The more reassuring we are, the less difficult this transition will be.

Moore Store was open for the first time on Friday. The students enjoyed shopping and now are aware of what they are working toward. If any of you have any small items that you are willing to donate, it would be so much appreciated. I filled in with Dollar Store Delights the first time but my personal budget won't support many more trips. Thank you for supporting our behavior incentive program.

Afternoon clubs were a bit difficult last week. Please make sure of the start date and the start time of your club. Make your child aware of where they go also. Perhaps writing it on the bottom of their agenda.

Curriculum:

Reading groups are underway. Three groups are conducted 4 times a week. Reading in small group is the most productive way to dissect the parts of a story and ensure comprehension is taking place.

AR point: Students should have earned 2 AR points by last Friday. This Friday, they will need a total of 4 points. Every student should be reading an AR book, in their range every night for 30 minutes. The way to better reading is to practice reading on a daily bases. Those who don't earn their points, will have an opportunity to do so 20 minutes during the day, during recess.

Spelling: Sort 3 is for this week. each student should play a Spelling City game every night. Here is a link to make it easier.

Spelling City

Thank you for coming and welcoming your child to their "school home"for the third grade.

Monday morning classes will begin at 7:55 AM in room 409. If you have items to drop off please send them with your child and I will be there to assist them as they arrive. I will be happy to greet you parents, but will unable to have an individual conversation with you. It is important in the mornings to get the students started off into a classroom routine.

On Monday, we will be having PE as our special. In addition, please notify me in writing if your child's transportation has been changed.

Riley's birthday is on Monday, his mom will be bringing in treats to the lunchroom. If you need to send an alternate snack please do so.

Nobody signed up for room parent during Sneak A Peak. I hope that someone will step up to the plate and help our class have a rootin' tootin' good year. The children really enjoy having their parents take part and share in their knowledge and learning experiences. It is a great to demonstrate that education is a priority.

My behavior management is "Moore's money system". I use play money to reward the students. We set up a store every few weeks to reward their growth and institute structure. Students really seem to enjoy this and it helps remind them what is expected. There will be more information attainable at Open House.

I look forward to seeing all the students on Monday morning.

Please plan to attend Open House on Tuesday August 16th at 6:30 PM.
