Moore’s Station was founded in 1891 as a station on the Macon, Dublin and Savannah Railroad.

According to local Dublin-Laurens County historian, Scott Thompson; with the coming of Dublin’s first railroad to the western regions of the state, a small community sprang up around the small depot located on the railroad where the lands of J.T. Moore and A.H. Moore came together.

A post office named Picciola had been established in 1879 in the area with Jeremiah H. Yopp as its first postmaster. In 1889, just prior to the coming of the railroad, the name of the post office was changed to Vallambrosa. That post office closed in 1899 and the mail was sent to Dublin for delivery.

Located five miles west of Dublin, Moore’s Station was located near the junction of the Dublin-Cochran and the Old Chicken Road. The Moore families sold of their original plantation lands to speculators, which included Dublin hardware magnate, W.W. Robinson, and Thomas M. Hightower, who maintained a large pear orchard on the outskirts of the community. Other early property owners included Alex Brady, Rollin Hughes, N.C. Chandler, Z. Kennedy, and Dr. E.R. Jordan. The Laboring Friends Society established their lodge at Moore’s Station in 1899.

For most of the first half of the 20th Century, Moore’s Station, though no longer active as a railroad depot, was a small commercial center for farmers living west of Dublin. A two story brick store remained in existence until the 1950s on the southwestern part of town.

National Association of Home Builders Survey says. . .

Despite the ups and downs of the housing market, home owners and non-owners alike consider owning a home essential to the American Dream.

That’s the key finding of a recent survey of people likely to vote in 2012 that was conducted on behalf of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) by Public Opinion Strategies of Alexandria, Va., and Lake Research Partners of Washington, D.C. (source: Mary Beth Nevulis, HousingZone Contributing Editor)

“The survey results show that Americans see beyond the immediate housing market to the enduring value of homeownership,” said NAHB Chairman Bob Nielsen, a home builder from Reno, Nev. “An overwhelming 75 percent of the people who were polled said that owning a home is worth the risk of the fluctuations in the market, and 95 percent of the home owners said they are happy with their decision to own a home,” Nielsen said.

“Homeownership is worth the risk, pure and simple,” said Neil Newhouse, a partner and co-founder of Public Opinion Strategies. “Even though the market is weak, people who don’t own say they want to buy a house. Almost three-quarters of those who do not currently own a home, 73 percent, said owning a home is one of their goals. And among younger voters who are most likely to be in the market for a home in the next few years, the percentages are even higher,” Newhouse said.

One of the more striking aspects of the survey results is the intensity of sentiment among potential voters, according to Celinda Lake, president of Lake Research Partners. “People believe overwhelmingly that owning a home is an anchor to the American Dream,” she said. “It’s an anchor to your retirement, and it’s an anchor to your personal economic well-being.”

Among the other survey results:

Homeownership and a retirement savings program are considered by voters to be their best investments.

80% of home owners would advise a close friend or family member just starting out to buy a home.

Saving for a downpayment and closing costs is the biggest barrier to homeownership.

Americans believe that owning their own home is as important as being successful at their job or being able to pay for a family member’s education.

“Owning a home isn’t just a policy to people,” said Lake. “It isn’t just a commodity to people. It is a core value.”

This national survey of 2,000 likely 2012 voters was conducted May 3-9, 2011 by Public Opinion Strategies of Alexandria, Va., and Lake Research Partners of Washington, D.C. It has a margin of error of +2.19%.

Public Opinion Strategies is a national political and public affairs research firm based in Alexandria, Va. Founded in 1991, it has conducted more than 6 million interviews with voters and consumers in all 50 states and over two dozen foreign countries.

Lake Research Partners is a leading public opinion and political strategy research firm providing expert research-based strategy for campaigns, issue advocacy groups, foundations, unions and non-profit organizations.

(By David Lauderdale: Island Packet, Hilton Head Island, Published Thursday, April 21, 2011)

In 1969, Dr. Nelson Carswell Jr. of Dublin, Ga., stood on the 10th tee at Harbour Town Golf Links and yanked his drive into the lagoon. On Wednesday of last week, he stood on the same tee box and used his good arm to slap a drive to the right. He’s had two operations recently on his left shoulder and can’t play golf for a year. But his doctor let him tee off to keep his Heritage streak alive.

Carswell has played in every Heritage pro-am. He believes he’s the only person to do that. In the original event, Carswell took a drop by the lagoon, hit it to the green and knocked in a long putt for par. In the 43rd pro-am on Wednesday, he picked up his ceremonial “drive” and gave way to his oldest grandson, Blair Mitchell, who finished the round.

The Heritage has always been a family affair for the 80-year-old pediatrician, who still sees patients two days a week. His wife, Betty Ann, and three of their five children are here for the week, along with grandchildren and many friends. That’s why the man they call “Golfdaddy” loves to come to the Heritage.

“I know that heaven is so much more beautiful than we can imagine,” he said as he walked along the 10th fairway. “But to me, this is as close as it gets. I wish I could bring everybody and let them see how much fun it is.”

He’s been playing on Hilton Head since he bought a condominium on Lighthouse Road in the mid-1960s from the late Stewart Dunbar. Carswell used to fly his plane to Hilton Head. “I would buzz the clubhouse, and they would send someone to pick me up at the airport,” Carswell said. Things have changed, but he wouldn’t take back a minute, or nickel, spent on his Heritage weeks. “It’s hard to put it in words,” he said. “I’ll be back if they tee it up next year.”

Consumer preferences toward homes with a front porch is on the rise.
So are solar reflective roofs and access to transportation, according to a new survey by the American Institute of Architects. The group surveys more than 500 architecture firms each quarter, focusing on different topics. This one looks at community and neighborhood design. AIA’s Home Design Trends Survey for the third quarter of 2010.

Kermit Baker, AIA’s chief economist and a housing expert at Harvard University states that the survey finds more consumer interest in front porches, as households look to connect with their neighborhood, low-maintenance and durable exterior products (fiber cement, stone, tile, natural earth plasters), sustainable and cool (solar reflective) roofs and single-floor living, which is easier for an aging population.

At Moore Station Village, The Front Porch Collection brings back the warm, inviting Craftsman style with floorplans tailored to today’s buyer. The craftsman style dates from the last years of the 19th century through the early years of the 20th century and has experienced numerous popular revivals. It is known for originality, elegant simplicity of form, clean lines, natural materials, and artistic handicraft. Most importantly, the style calls to mind the charm, friendliness, and unpretentious neighborhoods of traditional small-town America. After all, what could be welcoming than a front porch?

All homes in the collection feature a generous front porch, a master bedroom with walk-in closet, a sunroom/bedroom and two full baths along with a great room, dining room, and kitchen with custom cabinets and designer fixtures. Graceful French doors open onto a side porch, and a two-car garage is accessible from the back alley. The Front Porch Collection of homes offers a choice of elevations and one and two-story floor plans.

Like all homes at Moore Station Village, professionally landscaped and maintained lawns are included.
** NEWS RELEASE **

Dublin (Georgia), March 12, 2011—MAGE SOLAR, part of the globally operating MAGE GROUP, is deeply saddened and shocked by the severe natural disaster that hit Japan on Friday. While the full scope of the devastation is still unfolding, MAGE SOLAR’s Team for Humanitarian Outreach has decided to act and provide help for those hardest hit by this inconceivable destruction.

“We are in a state of shock in regards to the events in Japan,” says MAGE SOLAR CEO Norbert Philipp. “Our hearts go out to the Japanese people, some of which have become valued business partners and dear friends. They are now in our thoughts and prayers during this terrible time, as are all the victims of this terrible natural disaster.”

In an effort to cope with the disaster’s aftermath MAGE SOLAR has established a Disaster Relief Fund in the amount of $35,000 USD.

Sylvia Minton, Sr. VP Corporate Affairs for MAGE SOLAR, who will be managing the relief effort and the fund stresses that there is no time to spare when it comes to assist in times of such great need. “We have begun to reach out to our friends and business partners, some of which are located in the area most affected by this catastrophic chain of events. Communication to the impacted area is rather difficult, but we are confident that we will be able to find out soon where we can best be of help. Sadly a tragedy like this is a grave reminder of how powerful and destructive the forces of nature can be. And while man might want to believe that he is in full control, he might not always be.”

MAGE SOLAR USA, headquartered in Dublin, GA, specializes in complete solar systems and provides high-quality photovoltaic modules, intelligent mounting systems and high-performance brand inverters. As a subsidiary of the international MAGE GROUP, it uses the Group’s 35 years of know-how to develop optimally coordinated system solutions.

Georgia’s top five economic development stories of 2010 include: Alternative Energy; Pop Culture; Travel/Tourism; Aerospace; and International Trade.

Mage Solar gave a whole new meaning to Dublin’s “Green and Growing” tag line. Dublin, Georgia’s competitive assets for the energy sector attracted the attention of global energy leaders. Solar energy companies lit up the landscape in Dublin and Atlanta. MAGE SOLAR chose Dublin for its North American headquarters and a manufacturing facility, creating 350 jobs and investing $30 million.

The State agency’s International Trade team ensured Georgia was front and center at international trade shows in Germany, Mexico, Korea, Chile, Israel, Cuba and other shows in its strategic markets. The outlook for exports in Georgia remains positive, thanks in large part to the state’s ports, the fourth-largest and fastest-growing in the U.S.

The Georgia Dept. of Economic Development reported increases in jobs and investments, also in tourism and entertainment.

ATLANTA (December 2010)—The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced today that jobs increased by 14 percent and investment by 20 percent in the state during 2010. New and expanding companies created more than 20,000 jobs and invested $4.1 billion in Georgia during 2010. Entertainment and tourism also made strong showings.

“This kind of success only happens as the result of great teamwork by our GDEcD staff and partners,” said Heidi Green, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “We have good, positive momentum going into the new year.”

Georgia’s economic development successes in 2010 ran the gamut of the state’s diverse industry sectors and geographical regions. Among them were:

1. The allure of alternative energy
Georgia’s competitive assets for the energy sector attracted the attention of global energy leaders. Solar energy companies lit up the landscape in Dublin and Atlanta. MAGE SOLAR chose Dublin for its North American headquarters and a manufacturing facility, creating 350 jobs and investing $30 million. Enfinity Corporation of Belgium, the world’s largest developer of solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions, put its Americas headquarters in Atlanta in March.

2. Center of pop culture
The state’s entertainment industry exploded this past year, thanks to the 2008 Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act. The economic impact of production activity increased 440 percent between fiscal years 2007 and 2010, surging to $1.4 billion. Georgia’s business climate for the entertainment industry created tremendous opportunities for the state’s 25,000 workers in the business.

In 2010, several film and television studio facilities announced they would open their doors in Georgia, a commitment to the long-term promise of the state’s production environment. Among them were EUE/Screen Gems, which bought the former Lakewood Fairgrounds site near Atlanta and undertook a multimillion-dollar renovation of the studio complex. Raleigh Studios, the largest provider of stage space in the world, put down roots in Senoia in Coweta County. Savannah’s Meddin Studios opened a digital production facility and is already planning an expansion. Also, Panavision, a world-renowned name in the design, manufacture and rental of camera systems, announced it will open an Atlanta location in early 2011.

Four Georgia-made TV pilots have gone on to become series: “The Walking Dead,” “Teen Wolf,” “Single Ladies” and “Auction Kings”. Other Georgia-lensed successes include the top-ranked shows on their respective networks: “Vampire Diaries,” “Drop Dead Diva” and “The Walking Dead.”

Georgia also launched “Camera Ready”, a designation to streamline access by film and television production companies to local resources and information in the state’s 159 counties. In 2010, more than 50 Georgia counties hosted a film, TV or commercial production. Sixteen of them were tapped for this designation in the first phase of the program’s implementation.

3. World travel destination
In 2010, international travelers visited only one other state more than they visited Georgia. These travelers stay longer and spend more, whose expenditures resonate throughout the state’s economy. Georgia offers them the authentic Southern experiences they seek, such as the state’s commemoration of 150 years of Civil War history. Every $1 million spent by international visitors creates 11.5 new jobs and generates $33,143 in payroll and $123,588 in state taxes.

As domestic tourism has suffered, Georgia has aggressively targeted consumers, tour operators and media in emerging international markets including China and Brazil, already two of the South’s top 10 international markets. The number of visitors from China to the U.S. grew 55 percent in 2009 and another 40 percent this year. Four of China’s largest tour operators are now marketing Georgia.

The state also stepped up its efforts in South America, especially Brazil, predicted to become one of the top five countries for inbound travel to the United States by 2015. One of the largest tour operators in Brazil carries information about only two southern states, and one of them is Georgia.

4. Aerospace on the wing
Georgia’s energetic marketing of its aerospace assets attracted more jobs and investment. In November, Gulfstream Aerospace announced yet another expansion, increasing its Savannah workforce by 15 percent in a $500 million investment. Governor Perdue’s mission to the Farnborough Airshow and the National Business Aviation Association’s Atlanta convention heralded Georgia’s assets for the industry, among them the nation’s most productive aerospace workforce and top-ranked academic programs.

5. Trading up
Georgia’s International Trade office reported a 10 percent increase in the trade deals helped companies close. The group facilitated 248 deals during the 2010 calendar year, up from 225 in 2009. The state undertook four gubernatorial missions this past year to grow its trade and business relationships, including a historic mission in July to Cuba. The International Trade team also ensured Georgia was front and center at international trade shows in Germany, Mexico, Korea, Chile, Israel, Cuba and other shows in its strategic markets. The outlook for exports in Georgia remains positive, thanks in large part to the state’s ports, the fourth-largest and fastest-growing in the U.S.
