I bought this dress for, literally, one dollar. That's it. No tax so it wasn't $1.10 or $1.50 or anything. Well, it was UGLY too. It started as a very long, conservative, and sequined mess. So one night, I cut it up and made it into this lovely little lace dress which is a new favorite of mine.

.... Another day that I wear a blazer in Paris. It was so cold when I went that I basically wore the same outfit (I know, terrible) every day. At least it was a comfortable one.

Monumenta 2011

While in Paris, I went to the Grand Palais to see Anish Kapoor's Monumenta 2011 exhibit. It was absolutely amazing. These are photos of the interior, which made me feel like I was in the belly of a whale.

Here's a little combo post of the exhibit with my outfit for the day. I bought this dress earlier in the day at a thrift store called Free P Star. I must have looked like a mad woman in that store. Two floors jam packed with all sorts of dresses and fashion goodies.

The exterior of this piece blew me away. The sheer size of the giant orbs inside the most beautiful building I've ever seen was something out of a dream for me.

Fitting In

This may be my favorite outfit that I've ever worn. It had it all: style, comfort, and the color black. Of course, to not look like a total widow I added some red liptick and a scarf. Not true, I wore the scarf because I was freezing and the red lipstick is becoming a staple of mine.

My own DIY

As I said a few posts ago, I went to Henri Bendel and was suddenly inspired to make hats. I've never in my life had an interest in making them, but I gave it a go the other day. And this is the result. This little feathered one is the first hat I've ever created. I feel like a proud parent right now.

It wasn't too bad to make. This one was made with lots of love, hot glue, and padding.

This next headband was actually the easiest of all. First, I bought a beaded collar trimming. Then, I cut it and sewed a bit so that it fit the headband's curved shape. Lastly, you just hot glue it down and then you're done!

This little petite one was made with my love for ruffles and black lace. It's simple, but I'm excited to wear it out one sunny day.

Byzantine+Gaga

I've been inspired by the new Chanel Byzantine Empire looks and Lady Gaga's Judas video to create a mini photoshoot. I love the contrast between gold and black in both. Plus, it gives me a reason to wear dripping down cat-eye makeup.

My headband is my own design and earrings are from Forever 21. I'm wearing Make Up Forever Aqua Cream on my eyelids with some neutral primer on the center of the lids. Pretty simple look. My eyeliner is just a regular liquid liner. I have the Lady Gaga Viva Glam lipstick on which is my new favorite lipstick. Well, nothing will beat red but it's a close second I guess.

Baby the Stars Shine Bright

I've had this Baby the Stars Shine Bright bow for a few years now and have never had the chance to wear it. Well, that all changed when I finally stuck it on my head and walked out the door. Usually, you're supposed to wear these with a whole frilly outfit like this but I don't own one... so all black is the next best choice.

Henri Bendel and Trimming

On this past mini trip to nyc, I stopped at Henri Benel for some inspiration. I walked out with another tube of my favorite Lipstick Queen color- Wine Sinner. I can't ever find it in Pittsburgh and I just love buying things in person instead of just online.

While at Henri Bendel, I saw all sorts of hats, headbands, and feathers that inspired me to make my own designs. I ran over to the Garment District and bought up my favorite trimmings in all sorts of golden and neutral tones. Oh, and for some reason that day I had my mind stuck on feathers. Probably because I saw the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit the day before.

First Sunny Day

This is the first sunny day we've had in a long time... so I broke out my sunglasses and went for a very coordinated look today. I also decided that I'm going to wear red lipstick every day of my life. Well, that may be an exaggeration.

Studded

This may be my favorite outfit that I've ever worn. Yes, that's a big deal for me. Why is this outfit in particular so special?

Because I studded my dream Ralph Lauren blazer. I had bought the studs in the Garment District a few weeks ago, but hadn't figured out what I wanted to use them on. Luckily, I ran into this beautiful jacket one random evening in TJ Maxx... I also spray painted the bracelet gold. It was an old jelly bracelet of mine from the 6th grade.

For class, I was told to make a Wallpaper. I decided to make it as long as possible, since it's way more fun to make everything bigger.

There are cutouts on those diamond shapes which look much better in person than in the photo, but I think you can still see it.

New Babies

Ok here's the whole story: Go back a month to me doing some online window shopping on the Doc Marten's site when I found zebra print shoes. I almost died right then and there. Fast forward to Friday night when I was reading NYLON and saw an ad for Docs that had the shoes I wanted!! I was so frustrated that I decided I needed to get them. The next day, I'm walking around New York and was wondering, "Is there a Docs store here?" Don't blame me for not knowing- I'm hardly ever in the City anymore! Well then there it was- the Doc Martens store. Right in front of me. I ran inside and sitting on a ledge were these:

I was in love. There was no need to think about whether I should spend the money or save it to pay my tuition for college. These were my dream shoes and now they were mine. Life is complete.

Studio Arts Show

It's the end of the year, and that means that the Studio Arts majors are putting on a show... well not a performance but an exhibit. A lot of friends of mine had pieces in the show, which made it all the more exciting.

These two lovelies that I'm standing with are Grace and Ellyn. We are standing in front of one of Grace's pieces which is made from plaster casts of breasts (yes, that's right) and panty hose. Is that what one calls it? Panty Hose? Or tights.... you get the point.

I was also in the show. My piece, since I'm not a senior yet (It's usually a show for seniors unless you get choses) was chosen by a professor from one of my classes. They are digital prints and all three are from a series titled Exo. The one on the left is my grandfather's arm, the one in the middle is a ribcage, and the one on the right is my grandfather's hand. You can't imagine how proud he was to know that his modeling skills payed off for me.

This is Miss Carolyn and she has some of my favorite outfits. I love the cosmic tights she's wearing, and I told her that the beret makes her look Parisian. Usually she's sporting some sort of Anna Sui, which makes me a big fan.

Oh, Benjy. How I love this white suit. He's definitely always looking dapper but today was extra special. The nose ring was the final touch on this edgy, yet so sophisticated, outfit.

This is Clay, who I keep wanting to feature on here but never get to. He is notorious for his amazing socks and uniquely printed pants, but in this post all the attention goes to the shirt. I'm still unsure about what exactly those little orbs are, but I love it anyways. He is also wearing his dad's Rooster Tie.

Both of these (above and below) are cutouts done by my hero, Kimmie. I do have an obsession with papercutouts, which is why I'm amazed with each of these. This one below is made from several layers of cut paper. I can't imagine how long it took but it was worth it.

Hidden Gems

I love those days when you're early for class so you just get to wander around the building and explore. I was in the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt and walked into a room I've seen before, but never actually went in.

It really was beautiful. I felt so regal sitting at the table writing.... Yes, I forced myself to write something (which isn't too hard to do) so that I could just sit at the table.

Disappearance

I know, I know.... My posts have not been consistent. Well, there's only one per week lately and I'll show you the reasons why:

This one here has consumed my entire life and it's STILL not done. It's cut out of Arches printmaking paper. I want to add more to it and maybe draw behind it.... I'll post pictures once it's all done.

Riding Pants

After months of deciding, and contemplating, and waiting.... I've bought American Apparel Riding Pants!

These pants have many haters, but I am a fan. I have to be- stretchy pants that aren't leggings get me every time.

My whole outfit here is actually from American Apparel. No, this was not planned but it just happened that way.

It may just be my new favorite thing to wear. My back is something that doesn't get to show itself too often, so this leotard will be making quite a few appearances from now on.

Ah so it finally happened. Singles' Awareness Day as some call it. Others say it's the worst holiday ever created. I call it Valentine's Day. To me, it was never the worst day or anything like that. Usually I had the tradition of making the whole world my valentine and giving cards/cookies/candy to everyone I knew and liked. This year, however, I was not single. What did I get from my Valentine, then? Well, he did quite a good job.

He gave me the new Hello Kitty "Say Hello: Super Fun Colors" Palette!

I was so excited. I'm glad he remembers what I look at whenever I drag him into Sephora.

My friend, Marika, has the raddest boots I've ever seen in my life. I finally asked her the other day if I could take a photo of them. Skipping past the rest of her outfit (which was equally amazing), I lay down on the floor to snap a picture of these.

When I asked her where she got them, she said she had no idea- they were British or something. Well, that definitely adds an air of mystery and, as they say, "ups the cool factor."

It's finally come in the mail!

I bought the MAC Defiance Palette that's in their new Wonder Woman line. I couldn't go and try on the colors, so this whole buying makeup online thing is quite new to me. But once I saw all the beautiful colors online, I couldn't resist.

First of all, the box is a mini piece of comic book artwork. Well, maybe that's just because I love comic book art.

Colors: Defiance; Paradise Island; Star Studded; Real Drama.

Real Drama looks like my favorite so far. I'll post a makeup look with the new colors soon.

Hedda Gabler

Lately I've been watching a lot of BBC miniseries. They deal with the usual situations: women trying to be independent(which is absolutely insane to everyone else in society) but end up falling in love, financial issues, marriage, unhappiness, and of course MARRIAGE.

Well this got me thinking about one of my favorite characters, Hedda from Henrik Ibsen's play Hedda Gabler. I think I am the only one in the world who likes her character, which makes me so sad sometimes. In highschool I remember doing a whole presentation for English class that defended every action of hers. Ah, so much teenage angst.... I just related to every tormented character in each book that I read. Who doesn't feel that way in high school?

One day I saw the movie and loved the outfits that she wore. They were so similar to the 19th century silhouettes that were being pounded into my brain thanks to BBC on Netflix.

I was inspired to put my own spin on that way of dressing. I paired a long skirt with a messy bun and fitted shirt to create my look. I felt so feminine, yet still pretty fierce because of my leopard print.
