The "Why Pay More" ad campaign
possesses been running for the go on year less than it appears the hottest "Man
on the Street" spot (embedded once the break) could be what has really
upset DirecTV, claiming which its package costs around $20 a month
more in comparison to simply Dish. These could be one: which layer up of
nothingness between the touch-sensing glass plus the overall display though to your
phone. Who knows what that could be, Samsung's concerning to
blow it away along allowing for a recent Three.3-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen
coming back in March. The magic lies during the on-cell touch technology --
0.001mm-thick capacitive touch sensors have a tendency to be deposited between the
panel's substrate and the bottom polarizer film, thus weeding out the
same old touchscreen glass canopy and the distance that follows. Was it canceled? Did AT&T get distracted
playing Call of Duty 4 and forget to release it? It's possible --
crazier things have happened -- but we're taking some comfort this
week in the knowledge that the Bluetooth SIG hasn't forgotten about
the darn thing anyway. What's more, they're showing it with the
AT&T logo up front, the first time we've actually seen it
there; the fcc docs where we first learned of the phone had it
blurred out (though there was plenty of other evidence to gather
that AT&T was the destination from day one). Given that the
Mural doesn't seem to be running S60, we're having a hard time
getting too worked up about the fact that it hasn't launched -- but
we're sure they'd manage to sell a few if it was actually on a
shelf somewhere.

[ Via: engadgetmobile ]

Some new nokia flip gets FCC approval for AT&T

nokia 's Surge official on AT&T, ships July 19 for $79.99

Nokia's Surge official on AT&T, ships July 19 for $79.99

We've known about Nokia's so-called
Surge for
months now, but at long last, AT&T has done its duty by
making things official and giving us a price and release date to
consider. Last time Nokia ran an unannounced
model for AT&T through the FCC -- the yet-to-be-released
6750 Mural -- it remembered to blot out the carrier's
silkscreened logos but not the giveaway CV logo on the keypad. This
time, it remembered to blot out both the keypad and the logos in
the external photo documentation, but not in the SAR setup
files (pictured above). Of course, with 3G on the 850 and 1900MHz
bands, we pretty much could've gathered that AT&T was a likely
target with or without the visual confirmation -- but still,
amateur mistake. Beyond the carrier, we don't know much about the
phone -- but it's definitely not S60-based, it's got some form of
four-digit number assigned to it (it's identified as "XXXX" in the
manual), and a dedicated Telenav button guarantees that GPS will
factor prominently into its selling points.

[ Via: Engadgetmobile ]

Nokia 7020 garners FCC approval

Here's one we know you've been waiting for with bated breath: the
lowly
Nokia 7020 clamshell has earned its FCC wings on its way to a
Q4 release. The phone was always designed as a quadband EDGE
device, so it's not clear whether the FCC filing is indicative of
an intention on Nokia's part to actually offer the phone in the
States -- there isn't any carrier branding and there aren't any
carrier-customized buttons on the keypad, so this might just be a
formality. Then again, it could make a respectable backup phone or
a cheapo to take overseas if they do decide to offer it direct or
through the flagship stores -- who doesn't like concealed displays
and 2 megapixel cameras, after all?

[ Via: Engadgetmobile ]

Nokia shutters Vancouver-based N-Gage Design Studio

<img "16" align="right"
src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_vGtekFXl-Lg/SnDI8cemsrI/AAAAAAAAAHU/l8FMReSipFA/jpg20ED.png" />It's
probably a bit premature to sound the death knell for Nokia's
current generation of the N-Gage
platform, but it certainly doesn't bode well that they've wound
down operations at the Vancouver, British Columbia-based studio
responsible for many games stretching back to N-Gage's origins. Despite the fact that it looks
considerably better than the supposedly higher-end 5800, the 5530
tops out with EDGE for the WWAN, relying instead on WiFi for the
heavy data lifting in exchange for a dirt-cheap unlocked retail
sticker price. Speaking
of the E75, the best deal has to be on that bad boy: 50 percent off
MSRP, which by our rough calculation should bring you well under
$300 for one of the newest, neatest phones in the S60 stable.

Read - Nokia USA
store

Read - E75 in white

[ Via: Engadgetmobile ]

Zeemote's JS1 adds support for N97, 5800 XpressMusic, others

<img "16" align="right"
src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_vGtekFXl-Lg/SkIy2-g8aYI/AAAAAAAAAGY/ZcAVOF1It0A/jpg803.png" />If
you've been desperately searching for a way to motion-control your
brand new N97, look no further -- Zeemote's got your back. The
company's JS1 controller has just added drivers for every S60 3rd
and 5th Edition device on the market -- N97 and 5800
XpressMusic included -- plus a whole host of S60-based LGs and
Samsungs like the INNOV8 and the

KT770. Of course, that doesn't solve the whole issue of N-Gage
incompatibility with many of these, but the JS1 can also be used
for nifty parlor tricks like web browsing; combine that with the
5800's included desk stand and you've got the couch potato's
ultimate mobile setup. He admitted that the UK launch (the service's first) devices -- the 5310 Xpress Music and the 8GB N95 -- were "slightly out of date" at the time pointing out that the service was doing much better in subsequent markets, which all boast the 5800 as their hero device. Taylor said he also recognized that Nokia needed more retail partners to help move units, and that the company is not "giving up" on the UK as a market for CwM, adding that they'll be bringing the 5800 there in the future. No word on when that might happen yet -- but we're going to keep out eyes peeled for you.

[ Via: Engadgetmobile ]

Nokia N97 specs fully revealed

The remainder of the N97's juicy technical details have now been spilled on Nokia's dev-oriented Forum nokia site -- previously, only cursory data had been posted here -- and there are a couple notable bits that might be of concern to developers and would-be buyers alike. First off, the processor turns out to be a single-core ARM 11 putting along at 434MHz, just 65MHz faster than the 5800's. It's an improvement, yes, but when you consider that the competing i8910 from Samsung runs a higher-performance 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8, it throws a wet towel on the whole thing. Seeing how this is designed to be Nokia's premier device for 2009, couldn't they have gone for broke with the silicon? Secondly -- this is something we already knew, but the spec sheet reminded (and delighted) us -- the N97 supports charging via micro-USB, which the 5800 does not. According to estimates released by Music Ally at an Association of Independent Music conference in London, Nokia's gotten about 23,000 subscribers to the service since it launched last October. That's not a great number, if it's anywhere near accurate... though Nokia has "refused to confirm" whether or not it is. Tim Grimsditch, head of Nokia's product marketing division added that it's "a very new business model, we're live in five markets and the numbers only mention one. We're going to continue to develop the model and fine tune how we market it." That said, the report can't be terribly heartening either way you slice it, and is rather reminiscent of N-Gage's niche market status if you ask us.

[ Via: Engadgetmobile ]

Nokia 6216 Classic packs NFC for contactless payments

It's 2009 and we're still waiting for the Near Field Communication revolution. However, due to tough economic times and a lack of consumer devices, planned commercial NFC rollouts will likely be pushed into 2010. Still, we can add one more device to the NFC tally -- the Nokia 6216 Classic. The 6216 is Nokia's first handset with an embedded NFC chipset that communicates with NFC applications stored on the SIM. That little trick keeps the carriers happy while allowing consumers to keep their credit card info and contact-less ticketing and payment applications on the SIM for easy mobility between NFC devices. A good thing too, since this middling 3G candy bar with camera, FM radio, and microSD slot will be of limited appeal to most.
Read -- Nokia 6216 Classic
Read -- Economy, standards stand in the way of NFC

[ Via: Engadgetmobile ]
