New Invention Makes Ocean Water Drinkable

Chemists with the University of Texas and the University of Marburg have devised a method of using a small electrical field that will remove the salt from seawater.

Incredibly this technique requires little more than a store-bought battery.

Called electrochemically mediated seawater desalination (EMSD) this technique has improved upon the current water desalination method.

Richard Cooks, chemistry professor at the University of Austin said : “The availability of water for drinking and crop irrigation is one of the most basic requirements for maintaining and improving human health.”

Cooks continued: “Seawater desalination is one way to address this need, but most current methods for desalinating water rely on expensive and easily contaminated membranes. The membrane-free method we’ve developed still needs to be refined and scaled up, but if we can succeed at that, then one day it might be possible to provide fresh water on a massive scale using a simple, even portable, system.”

Kyle Krust, lead author of the study said: “We’ve made comparable performance improvements while developing other applications based on the formation of an ion depletion zone. That suggests that 99 percent desalination is not beyond our reach.”

This “water chip” method “could bring relief to millions around the globe who lack potable water.”

This method “is much simpler and consumes less energy than other forms of desalination.”

Crooks explained : “To achieve desalination, the researchers apply a small voltage (3.0 volts) to a plastic chip filled with seawater. The chip contains a microchannel with two branches. At the junction of the channel an embedded electrode neutralizes some of the chloride ions in seawater to create an ‘ion depletion zone’ that increases the local electric field compared with the rest of the channel. This change in the electric field is sufficient to redirect salts into one branch, allowing desalinated water to pass through the other branch.”

The Ion depletion zone prevents salt from passing through which creates fresh water out of salt water.

An estimated 780 million people across the globe do not have access to drinkable water. Of those estimated, 345 million reside in Africa.

There is an estimated 366 million, trillion gallons of water on planet Earth. That number appears to be fixed, according to UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Program (HIP).

The HIP are a UN program system devoted to researching and finding natural water resources and managing those resources found. While the UN is well aware that the necessity of water as a vital source for life means the retention of power over all life, they are well into their schemes to develop global governance over all sources of fresh, clean water.

The IPCC document HS 15332 Climate Change Impacts: Securitization of Water, Food, Soil, Health, Energy and Migration explains how the UN plans to secure resources to use at their disposal.

Through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under-developed countries are forced to sell their resources to the global Elite as “full cost recovery” to the global central bankers.

Once those resources are under the complete control of the IMF they become assets to be reallocated back to the enslaved nations for a price.

This scheme makes water sources under central privatization cost more and become less accessible to those who desperately need it. Water prices rise while the quality of it diminishes.

This forces natives in places like South Africa and India to collect water from polluted streams and rivers, which compromises their health. The cycle in complete when those who had their water stolen from them through coercion die from contaminated water that they were forced to use.

At the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation (ICWC) conference, entitled “Water in the Anthropocene” states that humanity’s impact on freshwater resources were assessed and it was determined that a 3rd of the estimated 7 billion people on earth have limited access to clean water.

Millions if individual local humans affect the regional, continental and global water cycles which facilitates a drastic shortage and untold damage of aquatic ecosystems.

The document stated: “In the short span of one or two generations, the majority of the nine billion people on Earth will be living under the handicap of severe pressure on fresh water.”

Human populations utilize water resources the equivalent of the size of South Africa to tend to the needs of crops. Another Africa-sized amount of water is used on the care of livestock.

Fresh water makes up 2.5% of the total water supplies across the planet. It is estimated that 70% of it is snow and ice-pack.

The document says that because of the impact of man on the planet, the earth’s chemistry and climate have been altered which has evidenced itself in the measureable hydrological cycles of the planet.

This obviously unsustainable course is causing the contamination of our fresh water supply.

UN-Water, a non-governmental organization (NGO), controlled by UNESCO, published the 4th edition of the UN World Water Development Report (WWDR4) in 2012.

In this report, the world’s freshwater resources were analyzed. Internationally controlled infrastructure was recommended to save those resources from being depleted.

Research data shows that nearly 1 billion people are using finite water resources. Therein lay a portion of the problem.

The 3 Habits Productive People Find Time for Every Day

It's funny, really. Most of us who get into entrepreneurship start with the intention of working LESS than we did at our regular jobs. The startling reality is that we often end up doing way more because we love the projects we're involved with. And because oftentimes, that's what it takes to make things happen.

Still, the long hours can take their toll — and even the Elon Musks of the world are no exception.

To keep yourself productive, it's essential that you build habits to help you organize your day and get the most out of your time.

Here are three of the most powerful.

1. Become an early riser by going to bed early.

There was probably a period of time in your life where it was easy to stay up late into the night (or early into the next morning) trying to get things done.

For me, however, that period was over a long time ago. Recently, I’ve come to realize that all eight-hour periods just aren’t created equally.

Going to bed at 10 pm and waking up around 6 am is EXPONENTIALLY better than going to bed at 3 am and waking up around 11 am, even though the number of hours you sleep is the same. I’ve tested this over and over again, and the evidence is pretty clear: I don’t perform well if I stay up past 11 pm-ish.

Early risers really do have a distinct advantage when it comes to mental clarity, acuity and energy.

Simply put: waking up early works better than any other strategy for becoming more productive. But you have to make sure you get enough sleep to back it up. So get to bed!

I’ve had to give myself a bedtime and be my own parent by ruthlessly enforcing it. It was harder than it sounds, because I’ve been programmed to stay up late for so many years.

2. Start every day with an intention, focus or meditation.

Starting your day with a clear idea of what you want to do changes EVERYTHING.

Have you ever had a day where as soon as you woke up, there were already missed calls, text messages and emails screaming for your attention? You felt like you were struggling to stay afloat before breakfast. Oh, that sounds like every day, you say? That needs so stop.

If you like, you can meditate. You know, cross-legged, a candle, with some nice music playing in your ridiculously expensive Beats headphones. But if that's too much, you can just "take 10."

Take 10 slow breaths, think about your main objectives for the day, then get moving. This seems too simple to have an effect, but it’s not. If you’re used to getting up already in battle mode, then you’ve probably forgotten how it feels to have a moment to yourself.

Take a few of those minutes back to refocus yourself. It really helps. You can also use that time to create a better to-do list.

3. Physical activity. Do it.

Working out is probably the highest-leverage tool in your arsenal. It predictably and reliably makes you feel better and keeps you both physically and emotionally healthy, year round.

To have the mental energy to take on the full calendar of to-do’s that people want from you, you have to be in the gym.

Period.

Training yourself physically not only gives you benchmarks to hit on a regular basis, but it also creates a predictable backbone in your daily life that you can count on, even if everything goes wrong. Mentally, that’s very comforting.

Trust me, I know that integrating these habits into your life won't be easy at first. But if you're not healthy, your business can't thrive anyway. Consider them a long-term investment in your business.

10 Article Writing Tips For Newbies

This article on the 10 (no, 11... yes, 11) tips for newbies is not written from the catbird seat point of view of the article host or database manager. Rather it is by and from the perspective of an author who remembers the early misgivings. It is written especially for the beginning article writer. The Tennessee Mountain Man has written and submitted hundreds of articles for publication to thousands of article hosts and database managers and still finds article writing his nemesis.

1. Necessity vs Desire:

Articles and Blogs are necessary in today's scheme of search engine indexing. Not what the newbie wants to hear. Just remember what the Bible says, "there has nothing over taken you that is not common to man". That's right! All of us hate article and Blog writing at times, and some of us dread the journey to pen and paper (or keyboard as the case may be) all the time. Many a webmaster would call them "a necessary evil" as they are not generally anyone's best liked internet chore.

2. Just Start, It Gets Easier:

First it is sometimes difficult to get a subject or theme and to get the first couple of lines scribbled down. The Tennessee Mountain Man knows authors who literally get sick thinking about the process. Lighten up. Once an author has a starting point and gets past the initial thoughts, article and Blog writing usually goes fairly smoothly.

The main thing is that you get started. Pick a subject you know something about and just start. You will be pleasantly surprised at just how easily ideas flow. Don't assume everyone knows what you know. They don't. Will Rogers once said, "all men are ignorant, just on different subjects". And, so it is!

3. Good vs Perfection:

Your old English comp professor is not looking over your shoulder. This paper does not have to be perfect. That is not to say it does not have to be on point or to say that it does not have to be correct. It does or at least it should be. But, perfection is not the goal and is, in fact, seldom possible. Too much detail and you run the risk of losing your reader on several levels. Too long and most readers simply don't have the time or interest to wade through the material regardless of how important it is.

4. Blog Length vs Article Length:

Most publishers want a minimum of six hundred (600) words per article - some will let you slide with four hundred (400) words. Blogs can be much smaller. Blogs can and maybe should support appropriate pictures and embedded links.

Just don't over do it. Too gaudy or too slow to load and you have wasted your time, ticked off a potential reader, and probably upset a host who can ban you from their publications. Articles, on the other hand, typically cannot carry these extra touches according to the requirements of most publishers.

5. Format:

Prepare your article in American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) format. There are many tools from which to choose to get the job done. A search for 'free ASCII editor' or for 'free plain text editors' will provide one with a multitude of free options. Word Press is a popular choice. If all else fails simply use notepad to turn out your masterpiece.

6. Spelling and Grammar:

Once you have your article or Blog run it through a good spell checker and a good grammar checker. Microsoft Word works well for these purposes. Just don't use the MS Word copy for publication of your article. Rather use it's suggestions to make any necessary corrections to your plain text copy. The MS Word copy will work for Blogs although the Computerman prefers other editors.

Just like the days when you were pushed by Profs, you will find Article and Blog writing skills become easier with time and practice.

7. Publish and Announce:

Once your Blog is ready you may want to use some automatic tools to publish and announce it. First do a search for Blog hosts and select those which best suit your needs. Join one or more and publish your Blog there. Then search for Blog announcers and rss announcers and use them to get your Blog noticed.

Now that you have that out of the way find an article wizard that will post your Articles to free publishers. You can post them one at a time by hand if you are really bored and have absolutely nothing else in life to do. Using an automatic poster you can publish to hundreds of hosts in an hour or so. It's the only way to go.

8. Patience:

Now, have some patience. Here is where you lose control. Many of the men and women who host articles are timely and your articles will be reviewed within twenty-four (24) to forty-eight (48) hours. But, many others will be days and weeks down the road therefore never date an article - a sure way to get rejected.

9. Rejection - "sorry your article has been declined":

Be prepared for most hosts to reject your articles. Do not take it personally. It usually has little to do with you or your article.

Some databases routinely reject articles for spelling errors when there are none or where there is more than one way to spell a word. And, just as in any other endeavor some hosts are simply too lazy and get so far behind, the easiest and fastest thing to do (and perhaps the only alternative) is to reject everything. You will learn who these are over time.

Then there are those who run your articles through a sausage grinder and if they find certain words, irrespective of how they are used, your article gets no further. These are the people who can't publish the Holy Bible because it contains words that offend them or their readers. Don't worry about these folks who are so heavenly minded they are of no earthly use.

Remember, just as in everything else in life, for every rule there is an exception

10. Keep the faith, and keep cranking out articles:

Since most authors, especially newbies, prepare only one copy of an article against the advice of most seasoned authors it is important that the newbie keep his chin up - keep the faith. That will be easier as more and more of your articles are accepted and published driving visitors to your website while creating those all important back links.

It is not necessary for every host to accept everything submitted to them. After one or two hosts publish your article on any given subject, the search engines tend to penalize you anyway by ignoring additional postings. This is close to spamming and while it could help someone find you, it probably won't. It is not necessarily, the more the merrier. The additional listings will not increase your page rankings or links reported by the search engines. It is more important to get published by hosts with the highest Google page rank possible.

Now, one BONUS TIP for you: Along with "the rejection slip" will usually come a suggestion on how to "fix" your article and a request that you resubmit it. Don't waste your time. While trying comply with one database manager's request you could have written a new article from which you get much more punch. Enough publishers will pick your article up so move on and save yourself some time and heartburn.

Everybody has a thought or idea at least once a day usually at the most inopportune time. How many good ideas have you lost because of waiting? Don't procrastinate! Go! Capture that thought before it is gone forever.

I just learned about it today, but it happened late
in 2010. An elderly Canadian couple won $11.2
million dollars and gave almost all of it away.

Can you imagine that? I can and it's another story
that I call More Great News.

They say they haven't bought a thing.

"Nothing." Violet Large told the Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation "We haven't bought one
thing. That's because this is nothing we need."

"I'm quite happy with what we've got," Allen
Large told the CBC. "Money can't buy happiness."

They decided to use the money to help others.

How great is that? In my personal opinion it's awesome.
They took care of family first and then made donations
to churches, fire departments, hospitals and the Red
Cross among others. They said it "made them feel good."

What a great story! In a world rife with turmoil, it's
good to find More Great News. Happily, gratitude
and generosity continue to be newsworthy topics.

So that's my rant for today. I'll keep doing the "Pay
It Forward" theme with emphasis on the Law Of
Attraction and perhaps I'll awaken from my dream
with the next billion dollar idea.

We Are "All Together In Spirit"

When ever a natural disaster strikes...fires, floods,
earthquakes, tsunamis...people rise to the occasion by
helping their friends and neighbors. Even strangers act
with kindness.

In the aftermath of Japan's 9.0 earthquake and tsunami,
there remains hope on the horizon.

This horrendous natural disaster has exploded onto the
world scene as yet another example of how powerful
Mother Earth and the Universe can be.

Heart wrenching videos depict the scope of something
too big to fully comprehend...the enormity of pain and
suffering...and the challenges that lie ahead.

In the midst of it all, there is More Great News.

The Japanese people are proving to be warriors with
a most profound and provocative message. They are
living proof of a people endowed with great energy,
courage and wisdom.

They are demonstrating for the world what it
means to be, as Yoko Ono puts it, "all together
in spirit."

In my view, it's a "wake up call" for the restof the world.

This is truly More Great News.

The Japanese culture is a beautiful model for all
to see, a model of stillness in the middle of chaos.
There is an almost peaceful calm across the
entire country.

In the absence of looting and rioting there is instead
a sense of community; of people helping each other
through a difficult time.

With the shortage of food and water, one might
expect to see a rash of emotion (anger, frustration,
anxiety and the like). In its place is a representation
of what they value above all else: order and civility.

There are no complaints...just a 9.0 rippling of
good will and enviable resilience; a people
blessed with the gift of humility and gratitude.

As I send my personal prayer, I am in awe of
the message they are sending to all observers.

The will of the people prevailed as they stood united

for a FREE EGYPT.

People, united for a common cause, sent a message

of hope to the many who still remain innocent victims

of tyrannical leaders.

They were willing to die for it (freedom), as their

unyielding passion captured our attention and

admiration.

While much work remains, there is cause for

courage in standing together to bring about change.

Chilean miners as they are rescued one-by-one. In front
of an appreciative and admiring audience, one can only
wonder "why" we place so much of our attention on the
bad news.

This is so-o-o much better! There's genuine joy and exhilaration.

Everyone seems to be enjoying the magic of the moment. As
triumph of the human spirit unfolds, we begin to see the
truth of what it takes to build "A Better World.

The eyes of the world are seeing first-hand, the results of a
cooperative effort...of people working together as ONE.

What a wonderful message. Real life heroes...emerging from below
the ground...and supported by teams of people above the ground,
all pulling in the same direction. The unified response of so
many creates a picture we all love.

It's good stuff!

We are One people, living on One planet, breathing the same air.
Together we will prosper; divided we will fall.

It's a message that is truly worth looking at...

They're back and they're coming on strong.

President Barack Obama gets credit for
reuniting 60's rock band Grateful Dead.

And, guess what? They're bringing their own stimulus package
to the table as they prepare for a 19 city tour. It's good for the
economy. It's good for America. It's More Great News.

The Grateful Dead won the hearts of mothers and fathers who
grew up in the 60's. Now their children are getting an opportunity
to see and hear the band that fell apart because they could no
longer find a place of agreement. They say they had too many
differences. So, welcome to the world!

The great news is that they're coming back older and wiser.They say they gained their new perspective from President elect Barack Obama. How about that?

They're coming together in a way that celebrates their differences
or puts a focus on what they have in common.

Bravo...

That really is Great News! It's more of what we need
to hear and to act upon.

Why?

Because it's easy to look at the things that separate us.

I call them the ABC's --Accusation,
Blame and Criticism.

Look, anyone can tell you "the bad news."

The media is filled with news about everything that's
wrong with people, society and the world. It's the
truth, isn't it?

And, isn't it also true that what we focus our
attention on grows? We listen to garbage. We
take it into our heads and wonder why things
are falling apart?

We've got it backwards. We don't want to
perpetuate and expand what's wrong, do we?
We want to concentrate and focus on what's right.
So what's it gonna' be? It's my choice, isn't it? It's up to
each of us "to choose what we take in."
