As I told in an earlier blogpost, I’m super exited to be published in Greece by the lovely Katerina Theofili.
Last week the two books arrived here and it’s wonderful to be published in a line with other amazing artists from around the whole world.

Seems to be a year of books from me as my first book is going to be published in July.
There will be a book signing event this year on Artful Gathering, so you can purchase a signed copy of my book.

Quiet moments at the harbour - a peek inside

I had a short weekend break last weekend and me and my husband love to spend some time at the coast, when we have the time to travel.
This time we travelled to Friesland, which is a part of the Netherlands. I love the Netherlands and the people who live there.
Friendly, creative and inspiring .....you should see the way they create their garden spaces, if you haven't done yet and I adore the kind of window decorations you can see there.....
We've found a nice place at a little harbour and spent the most time there, just relaxing and slowing down.
On sunday the weather was really too cold to sit outside and watch the the birds so we've been in Groningen and visited the market there.... so much delightful food...fishes and more ....this was not our last trip to Groningen.
I made a lot of photos. Here are a few of them. You can see the lovely place where we spent the most of our time, a little view outside our bus and some pics from the market.

Artful Gathering! Los geht’s – here we go

After I was clamped in for weeks, with book, drawings and lyrics but especially the video shoot for Artful Gathering I’m happy now that everything worked out wonderfully.
I always wanted to know where my limits of endurance are, I think now I’ve got it almost reached …..
Registration for the Artful Gathtering Artfest opens on May 1, and then you can watch and attend several exciting classes – just have a look to check it out.
My class begins July 16. with 6 weeks of online assistance and I’m already looking forward to many participants from around the world.
The application is already available from tomorrow!
The course costs $ 120, which is is around 100 euros, depending on how the current dollar exchange rate is and includes the 6-week video access and the six weeksof the online service.
Hopefully I also find some German-speaking students. I can assist and help in German, too but the videos are in English.
In the video chapters I show the complete process of how to work out two equally prepared mixed media canvases into one abstract work and one double portrait in oil and a bit more ….

ancient stories

My father did not leave me much but among other things a lot of photographs from Ethiopia and the United States.
He was there on business trips and I remember particularly a story that happened in Africa.
They had given a young cheetah to my father as a gift.
One of those beautiful big cats, you can actually keep as a pet, ’cause they are tameable.
Unfortunately, the Customs and Immigration Terms in Germany at that time prevented that we could feed a small, big cat in our home.
Many of these photos, I can now use in my art and I’m so glad to have certain moments coming alive again.
From the U.S., he has also brought a lot of postcards.
I have looked through my fund in the last few days and found that I have a mountain of pictures and maps of America, which are over 50 years old. If I have time I’m going to photograph a part of them and show it here.
But here are some of the small artworks, that I’m currently working on, using old memories and photos.

wich is located in Estoril /Cascais, a wonderful beach resort just 28 km (17 miles) from Lisbon.

Join us for a week full of spirituality and inspiration in the wonderful area of the Estoril Coast, near Lisboa .
This workshop & retreat experience will give any level of artist a great level of inspiration to reinvent yourself and your artistic endeavors.
Learn how to escape your inner critic and find yourself exploring your unity.We will have daily mediations, guided shamanic journeys and of course a lot of painting.

Abstraction is the ultimate way to discover the deeper spaces of your soul.You will learn how to let go everything that keeps you away from finding your very own voice
We will dive into pigments and papers. Using old photos, pages and many more art supplies, using various binders to create magical-looking images.
Glazed with colorful inks made by shining layers and if you like you will get it touch with your personal inner guide or Icon
In a certain kind of meditation you will find your inner guide or personal icon that wants to be painted by you to guide you through good and bad days and may help you in struggling and suffering.

For some people it’s a guiding spirit, for some people an angel.
However you will find your very own personal moving force.

You will learn portrait painting and drawing to give it a face and some exercises in anatomical drawing will help the body rise on your painting and with symbols that are important to you and your life you will finish a very personal artwork for you life.

Instructed studio time every morning and the afternoon is free to choose either continue working in the studio or sightseeing, swim or whatever you like.

Field trips are optional.

There will be only 12 spots maximum,

My art in a Greece book

Some time ago Katerina Theofili, a Greek artist and art critic asked me, if I would agree if she would present my work in a book.
She would appreciate my art work very much.
That of course made me very happy and I am honored to appear in this illustrious group of international artists.
In collaboration with her daughter Lydia Lavda, Katerina Thefoli now, in 2013 published the tenth edition of “art world” .
Together with the artwork of many international artists my works can be found now in the book “Art of the World 2013″.
This book – and I think this is most notably - in Greece is distributed free to schools and nonprofits.

Soon I will have an issue in my hands

In fact I'm pretty much americanized and I guess I never met anyone who is more warm, supportive and enthusiastic than these women.
At the moment life is very kind to me und I just can't wait to fly to the US in October.

While I started to film my online class for Artful Gathering there are always some vidoe sequences that I don’t want to use for the course.
But they are nice for a sneak peek inside and so in the coming days I’ll do the cuttings for some youtube videos and show some short cuts of:
How to draw portrait and figures
How do I create my own palette, how can I create my own flesh-tones
And in addition, various mixed media techniques and some more.
What also arises when working are new paintings, this is currently in progress and a second that is for the six-week online class and is already hanging on the wall with the first layer.

This piece is very suitable to show how to work with lot’s of layers to create the clothing

I finshed this one during the past days.
I kow there are differnt things that I have to do but I couldn't resist

Now my first video tutorial is finished and I am so happy about. it is still not optimal, but my ambition is awakened and I think the next will be better. there will be more, because first working on it has driven me nearly crazy but then it was a lot of fun.
It is amazing how much you learn by doing it – and all that I have learned will help me to film the online course for artful gathering.

A virus forced me to bed for a while but I’m back now.
Not yet quite fit but there are a few things that have to be done so … so, let’s go.
I’m working on my video editing still, my goodness it is so complicated and it is supposed to be good …. but this week, so I hope and pray it will be finished. Lying in bed, I could read some books again, that I really love .
Listening to the silence and reading Sandra Ingerman is always good for the soul!

On the next weekend I’m going to train the ladies at the AIM that want to become creative teachers and l this time I’ll make a lot of photos, which I will show you then.
Here is a pic of one the works that are currently on my easel, let’s see how it will change ….

I am still working on my promovideo for Artful Gathering and need only one sequence now to complete it which shows me at work.
Yesterday I have filmed a complete work in progress video to get this one good sequence – everything is wrong.

So, today another try

For a tutorial, I guess it’s ok to publish, so I’ll upload it on youtube, once it’s completely finished with all the needed cuts

Right now my time is fulfilled with my book project, video filming and cutting , writing articles for a magazine, learning ….
Didn’t I want my year to start relaxed?. Relaxation looks somehow different.
But everything that I do fills me up with joy, so it is just right as it is.
Last night I took my time to paint a few small canvases.
They are really tiny, 17 x 23 cm
I needed relaxing colors cool to me down a little.
Not really the palette, that I usually work with, which is more earthy with a bit of gray and indigo.

I spread my wings

Actually I love to work on paper and in smaller sizes.

I am somehow satisfied with working at three ore more sheets at the same time. It's a kind of brain hopping, I guess, 'cause you need to focus on each sheet with the same concentration at the same time. I love it!

The next days I 'll have to work on my first selfproduced video for Artful Gathering. Will be funny, I have not really done this before and I hope I will make a beautiful video with all the information, that students are interested in. But first I'm going to film a short tutorial as a test and publish it here and on youtube.

I really hope you will have a look and tell me what you like and what you think I could make better.

Out of the silence

The power is in the silence … or something like that
Since so many new things this year had happened to me and as the first enthusiastic joy had left me then the moment came when I asked myself: What for heavens sake am I doing?
I will depart to new horizons, leaving my comfort zone behind me and doing things that I only dreamed of.
I can fly … I can fly?
All of this can already make a little scared, I’ve never been to the U.S. and will fly this year for the first time there, alone, no German-speaking colleagues or contacts. Oh God ….
Quite shaken by fears partially irrational, I spent the weekend at the sea ….. the sharp wind will wipe away the brooding thoughts, I thought … but it has now lasted a bit longer to sort myself.
But now I’m calming down and without this increased adrenaline that I had in the beginning of the year, when I received this wonderful news, the fact is
A wonderful adventure is waiting for me
Probably it will be most adventurous year of my life, we’ll see….
And I’m so incredible excited to join the most wonderful team of Arfulgathering.

This weekend I am going to create the first videos and the class description.
