Raffertie - Not Asleep, Not Awake

2011-04-19T02:38:00.000-07:00

Just a heads up on a free tune coming from Raffertie, coinciding with his recent signing to Ninja Tune. You do have to sign up to the Ninja Tune mailing list but trust me, it's worth it. Apparantly a full length album is in the works and if this song is a fair representation of what to expect, I'll be copping that one instantly.

Meditate on Tom Waits

2011-04-11T12:12:00.000-07:00

I've been really busy this past week, had some awesome weather so spending as much time as possible outside.

(Thats my excuse for the fact there are two Tom Waits tracks in a row. .. now for this weeks)

One from his earlier years I think, his voice doesn't have that trademark roughness yet.

Tom Waits for no man

2011-04-04T13:49:00.000-07:00

I had to upload this myself, as the verison I have has a fairly humourous introduction by Tom. The actual song is great though, I love his voice on this one. Lyrics are in the youtube description if you would like to read them.

The original song is good too, I never realised there was a Kahn remix until a few weeks ago.

I havn't even heard the original of this, but it probably aint better than the Ruckspin remix.

not gonna get my hopes up, but . . .

" . . . I had this bunch of tunes for my 2nd album that were dark tunes, and I just scrapped them. I took ages on them. . . I worked for hours on these tunes, and I was trying to learn these programmes. These tunes were darker, more technical, all the tunes sounded like some kind of weapon that was being taken apart and put back together again. . ."

". . . Next album maybe I'll gather my forces, make a true darkside Burial album. Step up and do it. . ."

Quotes from a Burial interview I read recently, which you can find here. It's well worth a read if you're a fan of his music.

Another new feature I'm starting; every week (if possible) I will post my favourite soulful/chill/bliss tune of that week, and an upbeat/tearout/mashup one.

Underworld - Luisiana

Random Person - Computer Music

The Price – Ear & Drum Session 48

2011-03-22T07:15:00.000-07:00

One of my favourite sites for good drum and bass is Wozowski's Ear & Drum, a great site for mixes of all sorts of dnb, his latest offering is a mix of the latest and greatest from 2011 thus far.

"Another mix of new stuff from the first quarter of 2011. This mix starts of in definite minimal territory and then heads towards the deeper and more melodic side of things.
A big shout to Seba who’s 12″ Nostalgia / Vanity is by far the strongest release of 2011 so far. Other notables are Unquote as always with his sublime track – We Breathe Yoghurt Lying On A Strawberry Bed, Duo Infernale for their remix of Panic Girl’s – Hide and Seek and 3D Stas – Surface of a Doomed Planet which is an absolute monster of a tune."

Dead and Lovely

2011-03-14T13:17:00.000-07:00

So I watched 'Wristcutters - A Love Story' recently, it's got this great song by Tom Waits in the opening scene:

It's a good film too, definitely worth a watch. Post up your favourite Tom Waits songs in the comments, he's such a prolific artist, I know I probably havn't heard some of his best.

Hmm. . .

I probably shouldn't have just spent £60 on vinyl when I'm skint and have only got one working deck. . . :/
