I highly recommend putting in a 2GB RAM module (I used an 800MHz one) and, if you like, a larger hard drive. The extra RAM gives Windows 7 room to breathe and speeds things up noticeably. The Starter Edition of Windows 7 is too limiting for me, I upgraded to another edition of Windows 7. After you upgrade the RAM and the OS to a higher edition of Windows 7, install the Acer VGA driver for Windows 7 and then you'll have the proper screen resolution and you can run in Aero mode.

Sport Netbook Case

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire One (6 cell version) and ended up spending a surprising amount of time looking for a case for it before tripping across this one. I am happy to report that it is a perfect fit. Moreover, it has a full size external zipper pocket that is roomy enough to hold both the Samsung external optical drive I purchased for the machine and the battery charger without adding any appreciable bulk. The detachable shoulder strap is the option I particularly wanted since I often do not have a free hand when traveling. The only mystery is why Amazon does not list this case among the suggested cases for the ACER machine since it is an excellent choice.

I bought the LT2030 about 1-2 months ago. While shopping in Best Buy, I was looking for a small unit with good battery life, a little more ram/hard drive space, and the capability to do low level gaming if it interested me. I had several choices which had decent prices, including an ASUS, Dell, Toshiba, and Gateway. In the end, the Gateway won me over. Firstly, it looks GREAT! It's a really awesome Candy Apple red. Secondly, the battery power can run as much as 7 hours long. The Asus ran a little bit longer, but the Hard Drive space was the major factor. The LT2030u was the only model with 250GB HD space. The other 3 models had about 100GB. For the same price as the other three ($349), the Gateway was obviously the best value.

I love this Ruby Red Netbook with 9+ of Battery Life with Windows 7 Starter.

I have had this computer for almost 2 months and I love it so much. It is more than I had hoped for and it has a 250 harddrive and after loading everything under the sun...including books, music, pictures, etc. I haven't even dented the 250 bytes.

I recommend this particular netbook computer and the price is amazing. Who would think you could pay way under $400 to have a computer that does wheelies around anything ever before that I've purchased and used. If it ever breaks down...it's not a financial loss like my last laptop was.

WHAT COULD BE BETTER: The 11.6" screen on some Aspire Ones is superb - more pixels = ability to see NY Times online full screen without scrolling (the 10.1" on this one requires slight scrolling, but you are only missing "ad boxes" on the right hand anyway). HOWEVER I bought a 10.1" because all the 11.6" models come with downgraded Atom processors (z520 with GMA 500 chips vs. the N280 and GMA 900 on this one). SHOULD come with 2 GB of memory to match the other upgraded specs on this otherwise upgraded version, but unfortunately, doesn't.

OVERVIEW: bright, clear screen; snappy response (based on a couple of hours of adding and removing programs, after the 31 updates to Win7 first downloaded); tolerable streaming video (ran HD Apple trailers in 480 mode fine; Hulu was sometimes "choppy"; ran "Large" non-HD Apple trailers fine; ran ABC.GO.COM tv shows tolerably well; won't run Hulu in 480 mode or full screen; ran HQ You Tube fine). Smaller screen and smaller keyboard at a time when other netbooks are bumping up against super light laptops, but at least this is under 3 pounds WITH the charger. And you can't beat that battery life!

The computer itself is great. I love that its compact and has plenty of battery life. The touchpad is the least annoying of any laptop I've ever used. The windows 7 starter operating system, however is not. its a highly abbreviated version created for emerging markets in third world countries. There's so much lacking. you cant even put up a picture on the desktop background. Save your money and buy the XP version. I wish I did.

My wife loves her net book, very thin, light, bright screen and clear. Good wireless and fast with windows 7 light. With 160gb hard drive she can store what ever she wants. Seems to last a long time on a charge. Only thing she wishes it had is integrated bluetooth. These have come a long way, I have an asus and this one compares well with it. Looks well built and has the access to upgrades such as hard drive and ram on the bottom, something acer didn't have last year, major pain to change or upgrade when a net book has to be torn appart to upgrade or fix.

After a fair amount of travel I stick by my initial rating. Construction is solid and I have had no issues, even after it has been thrown around a bit with my carry-on. Also, you shouldn't have to worry about the "big" battery sticking out. The extra battery life is worth it and the netbook fits easy in your typical sleeve. I bought a standard netbook sleeve off the shelf for a bit of extra protection and the computer fits in with no issues. In fact, I'm able to get my travel mouse and power cord in with it, zipped up and all, which makes travel even easier.
