The Boys Working to Color our THANKFUL TREE

Every year, we host Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Christmas Eve is an open house type format that welcomes everyone and I have appetizers out all night so people can come and go. Christmas Day is mainly just my husbands family. Ha, I saw “just” but really he is one of four boys so that means between the families we have about 25 people.

Well, 2007 was a challenging year for us and several members of our family. We have had cancer, death, illnesses and unexpected big bills, marriage issues… you name it, someone has had it.

So for this Christmas Eve, I wanted to do something different since we have such a crowd of people coming in and out of the house and even with all the misfortunes of 2007, we did still have a lot to be Thankful for.

The Thankful Tree is Planted

 I awoke in the middle of the night a couple nights before Christmas Eve and had this idea of the kids creating a “Thankful Tree”.  I bounced the idea off my husband (who normally poo-poo’s all my crazy ideas) and he actually raised his eyebrows, thought about it, and said “I like it”. WOW! That was amazing enough for me to know I had a keeper of an idea.

Christmas Eve day, I brought out the big paper roll and drew the outline of a Christmas Tree. Then I set the kids to a coloring (YES, I KNOW, I have a boy that hates to wear more then his shorts at home even though it’s the middle of winter in New England…)

A Bag of Peas, Band of Brothers Movie and Sitting in the Recliner….Knowing that your “done” at 4 kids……. Priceless…………

Our social group conversations first started with hot topics pertaining to:

• Vacations and Night Out Activities
• Getting Married and the Wedding
• The anticipation of the first baby and who is next
• After kids…. what social life? When do we get to get out?
• Kids are a little older, getting out a little more with monster family playdates
• The hot topic now?  Who’s the latest to get the snip -snip…..

Boy, we are getting old, aren’t we?

Of course, the women do nothing but say “OHHHH PLEASE” 15 minutes in the Doctors Office, gives you little to complain about after how many hours of labor!  We can be so nurturing and so un-sympathetic at the same time!

Of course, I always love creating custom orders that reflect the personality of the new mom/dad or baby so off I went.  What do you think of this custom embroidery work? It is placed on the top chest of the Tubby Bundle baby towel and now dad or mom can stay dry while bonding during baby bath time!
