2026 Balaton Park World Superbike Superpole Race Result: Chaos Brings Red Flag, Eight Laps Ensue

With the grid returned to normal, the World Superbike Superpole race gave riders the opportunity to make up for an unusual qualifying session yesterday. Ten laps of the short circuit at 19ºC would decide the grid for this afternoon's race.

Yari Montella was the first to hit turn one but he overshot the braking marker and Nicolo Bulega lost positions as chaos ensued. A few riders closed their lines after strange entries, Miguel Oliveira avoiding Iker Lecuona in front of him, pushing Locatelli off his line. and Locatelli closed back to recover the correct line, but the gap had a Sam Lowes in it and he hit the Ducati and crashed out, taking Oliveira out. Oliveira was hit by both bikes as he was on the asphalt and the red flags were brought out. Locatelli and Oliveira were both conscious and Locatelli got his Yamaha back to the garage as Oliveira was put on a stretcher and taken to the medical centre for a checkup.

World Superbike race one, Remy Gardner and Iker Lecuona have been penalised three grid places for slow riding in Superpole. The weather was a clear 24ºC. Sam Lowes benefited from Lecuona's penalty, befitting as his lap was slowed by the Ducati rider.

5 Yari Montella (Barni Ducati)

A strong Superpole performance is critical for Montella. Qualifying on the front row of the grid at the opening two rounds, before technical issues in Assen, have shown his one lap speed. If the Spaniard can qualify on the second row he can aim for big points this weekend and beating his teammate, Alvaro Bautista. The Barni team will be hoping for a lot from Montella but if he can finish two races inside the top six this would be a great weekend.

7 Iker Lecuona (Aruba.it Ducati)

Having set the pace on Friday Lecuona laid down a marker to his teammate Bulega. This weekend is the opportunity to win a WorldSBK race for the first time and anything less than that will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Spaniard. Bulega is the favourite for all three races but Lecuona can get a scalp at a track where he performed well aboard the Honda last year.

2026 Balaton Park World Superbike FP2 Result: Seven Ducatis, Lecuona Remains On Top

Iker Lecuona led a swathe of seven Ducatis at the top, being out Nicolo Bulega at the end of the session. Sam Lowes remains third quickest with Alberto Surra fifth quickest behind Lorenzo Baldassarri.
