Like everything else in life, wheelchairs are also developing and also getting more sophisticated as the idea is to afford greater convenience and comfort to users. There are quite a few manual as well as power wheelchairs. Mobility aides which can come fitted with many new accessories.

There are quite a few goals of wheelchair seating like supporting posture, safety, pressure management and promoting function, many of which are competing goals. Users have also upped their demands in terms of materials and improved features for better flexibility and stability also. There are so many features like ability to vary the height, depth and width of the seat. In addition, cushions and backrests can be added for people with special needs being able to order custom wheelchairs.

It is possible to add in accessories like cup holders, bags and packs, holders and carriers as well as push gloves and trays to help increase the comfort of wheelchair users. Tests conducted by the United States Access Board (ATBCB) indicate the amount of energy that needs to be expended when people with or without disabilities negotiate outdoor surfaces. Factors such as heart rate, velocity and oxygen usage rate are some of the physical factors that are considered by mobility companies in designing wheelchairs. Some people who have good upper extremity function would not like to have their wheelchair accessories impede their mobility.

Cup holders are available at online retailers or wheelchair stores in the price range of $10-30. Most new mobility chairs do not have a cup holder. Most American front users see great utility in cup holders, even though some may see these as a trivial detail. Cup holders allow the comfort and convenience of being able to sip a cup of Joe or some other energy beverage, a luxury everyone should be entitled to.

Types of mobility accessories vary greatly. Electric scooters are ideal for out-of-home activities, as they glide smoothly and easily over a variety of surfaces. There are even portable motorized scooters that can be stowed in the trunk of your car to take along with you. Electric stair lifts can be associated with telephone jacks and mechanical door opening. Electric wheelchairs don’t need any kind of physical power to be used in order to operate them, beneficial to some users with limited mobility or those who are growing older. The invention of electric wheelchairs has been a blessing for many disabled people, because it considers and addresses the requirements of physically challenged people.

Scooters can have either front or rear-wheel drive. Weight capacities, suspensions and options vary widely by manufacturer. One of the more popular accessories, scooter arm tote bags attach quickly and easily to the arm of scooter with adjustable attachment. Scooter buyers suggest you climb aboard for the ride of your life. Electric wheelchairs also provide users with the facility of wheelchair lift which gives them the opportunity to raise themselves up an elevated surface without anyone holding the wheelchair.

When buying accessories, Medicare will reimburse 80% of cost for those who qualify. Some qualification requirements like patients having severe Arthritis of the hip of knee or a severe neuromuscular disease are necessary to be receive coverage. Medicare will not cover the cost of an option or accessory if it is needed only for activities outside the home. You must have a written doctor’s order and the supplier must have the order on file before billing for your purchase. Medicare must be your primary insurance carrier in order to file the initial claim with them. If you have secondary insurance, often they will pay any remaining amount that Medicare did not cover.

Phil Marlowe explains the benefits of a wheelchair cup holder but has helpful hints about travel accessories too.

Current gas prices are on the rise and the economy is coming to a halt so more people are riding motorcycles than ever before. The biker type has certainly changed. Grandpa probably has one in his garage.

Finding insurance is the toughest issue for many new motorcycle owners. Trying to find motorcycle insurance is harder than you might think. For someone who has just purchased their first motorcycle they may have been told by their car insurance company that they are unable to provide coverage for the bike. If you are contemplating purchasing a motorcycle you might be shocked to learn that some insurance companies are unwilling to provide motorcycle insurance.

It might irritate you because your insurance company will not provide coverage. After all you are a perfectly safe driver and your policy has never lapsed. So what reason do they have to not cover you? You may want to save a few bucks by combining insurance policies. The fact is you may have to look for a new insurance company for your motorcycle. If you are unable to get out of your present policy you will have to deal with separate insurance companies.

Insurance companies have their reasons., The real reason is not really about you or your record. The most common reason insurance companies do not provide motorcycle coverage is because of other drivers not the motorcyclist. Many people do not notice bikers on the road and this presents a risk for more accidents even if the rider is not at fault. This is one of the largest reasons for motorcycle accidents.

Smaller accidents can create more serious injury on a motorcycle than in a car or truck. In a fender bender with a car or truck the insurance company might have to pay for paint and maybe a fender. In a fender bender with a motorcycle even a small mishap could bring a claim for replacement of the bike as well as serious injury to the rider.

If a biker is knocked off their bike and onto the road there is very little protecting them. This makes the claims for serious injury or bike replacement more likely. Insurance companies have to take into consideration that helmet laws vary from state to state. There are certain states that will make newer bikers wear a helmet while other states have no helmet laws at all. The fact that the rider could be on the bike and in an accident while not wearing a helmet can scare off some insurance companies causing them to refuse coverage.

While you are shopping for motorcycle insurance coverage keep all this in mind. You will find companies that provide coverage for bikers at an affordable rate but you may have to call several places first. Insurance companies want to protect us but they have to protect their business as well. Motorcycles just present a bad risk for many companies. With more bikers on the road these days you might find that some will begin to change their minds, but do not expect it.

You can see it every day when you are out and about, Harley riders who don’t even know each other will politely nod and acknowledge the other and they would NEVER pass a broken down biker on the side of the road. This bond exists solely due to the fact that they both choose to ride motorcycles.

I don’t know where this group dynamic comes from, in fact I don’t think anyone knows, but it definitely exists. In the warm summer months then bikers will congregate and get together for a few drinks, tell some stories and make friendships but in the winter months it might be a bit different. It’s too cold to ride, so the internet becomes the place to make friends, talk motorcycles and build friendships.

Internet Age Bike Club

The clubhouse of today is digital and allows riders from all over the country to congregate and share those stories, without ever leaving the comfort of their house. The message board is commonplace around the internet and in a variety of niches so it is no surprise that you will find it in the biker world.

If you are not familiar with a message board or forum then it’s a website where you can register and interact with other members by leaving messages or “posts” for them to read. It might sound kind of dull but it’s really quite engaging if you give it a chance and stick around long enough to learn the personalities of those involved. The best part is that these forums are there day or night, all year long. It’s a biker bar that doesn’t close.

A Couple of Larger Forums

Below are a few of these “forums” that we personally belong to and find entertaining. There are certainly a lot of them on the internet and they all bring something to the table but we like these and would recommend them as ones you should check out and see if they work for you.

HDForums – This forum might be the biggest Harley Forum on the net and it attracts a huge range of riders from around the country, maybe even the world. I’ve been a member of this forum for years and the personality has ebbed and flowed throughout those years. It used to be more fun to hangout in my opinion, but as of late has become quite corporate with a LOT of rules and strict moderator enforcement. Kind of annoying in my opinion.

VTwinforums – This forum is similar to HDForums in some ways but is kind of the gearhead version. What I mean by that is this seems to be the forum for those who not only like to ride their Harley Davidson but also work on it themselves. It has an extensive technical archive and just about any Harley Davidson question can be found here.

HawgNet – This is a new forum that I have started on the backend of a Harley Davidson resource site that I was already building. We are building a huge selection of product reviews and still building membership and would welcome your contributions. There are NO ads and no sponsors as of yet and quite frankly, I don’t see going that route but things may change.

Now these are just three of the many choices available to you and you can find more. You will quickly see that each forum has it’s own “personality” and you just need to find the one that fits your own personality and then start making friends.

Want to check out our Harley Davidson Forum, then visit Jack Travers’s site and check out one of the fastest growing Harley Forums on the internet.

There are several companies which offer car insurance. When buying car insurance, there are several facts that people must be aware about. These car insurance facts need to be taken into consideration to ensure that a person ends up buying the best insurance policy.

One of the main car insurance facts that one needs to have knowledge about is that car insurance is available in form of several types of policies. When a person has to buy an insurance policy, the benefits and drawbacks of each of the available plans need to be taken into account. People also need to know the fact that car insurance rates are different for different types of policies.

There are several factors that determine the insurance rates. These factors include the driving record, age of the person buying insurance, the car itself and even the driving experience that one has. These factors are also used for determining the amount of premium that is charged from the car owner.

The insurance amount that the insurance company has to pay depends upon the amount of deductibles. When a car owner agrees to pay a larger sum of money in the form of deductibles for losses incurred because of damages, then the insurance company has to pay a less amount of money. Car owners must always keep the amount of deductibles more as they then can pay a small premium amount.

Yet another of the car insurance facts that people need to know about is that discounts are also offered by insurance companies on the insurance policies. The factors on which the discount depends include clean and safe driving record, safety features provided in the car etc. When an insurance policy is purchased at a discounted price, the insurance amount is less as compared to when no discounts are offered on the car insurance policy.

The insurance policies offered by an insurance company and the benefits of the policy depend upon the car that one possesses. The model of the car, the sticker, safety features, price, and maintenance required all have an affect on the amount that the car owner has to pay for the insurance policy.

One of the most important car insurance facts that most people do not know about is that car insurance is generally divided into two parts. The first part covers the liabilities that can arise because of how the car is used. The second half covers the liabilities that arise because of damages done to a car in an accident.

A consideration of these facts ensures that one ends up buying the best policy that provides maximum benefits.

Many companies fear to lose a significant amount of money to the insurance policies that they have offered to their customers. They fear about the frequent accidents of the bikes and having to pay the claimed amount. As a result of this fear, most companies make the customers pay a high amount of premiums. This article discusses the reasons for this fear and how you could manage to find a low premium policy for your bike.

Many things go through the mind of the insurance company before it decides a premium amount for you. The factors considered are your age, occupation, bike model, and so on. What ever the calculations and considerations are, the premiums declared are high in most cases.

Amongst all the accidents that occur in a year, two wheeler accidents are the most common. Too many motorcycle accidents are reported on daily basis. One reason for this high range of accidents is the young age of most bikers. At such a young age, they ought to have less experience of riding the machine on the road. No doubt, the kids pass their tests and grab their license copy; but the inexperience does not get sidelined by any means. As a result of this, more accidents occur making the companies pay more and more.

Most youngsters are known to ride at pretty high speeds. They just love giving the accelerator a rip. As obvious, high speeds lead to more accidents. Insurance companies too understand this dynamic and do not trust the young bikers to ride safe.

Bikers are also known to be keener to over take the other vehicles on the road. It is easier to over take with a bike than with any other vehicle. Especially on the narrow roads, there is no stopping for the two wheelers. In process, the bikers commit accidents too often.

Once the accident has occurred, bikes get damaged a big time. A four wheeler has a front guard and a strong bumper to protect itself against heavy damages. The same is not the case with bikes that hardly have any protection on the front or on the rear. A pair of leg guards is only good enough to protect the biker’s legs, and not the bike. Bikes therefore end up damaging some of their expensive parts upon an accident.

As evident, the companies logically fear the motorcycle insurance. This makes the companies to build a good bunker of money with your high premiums. You therefore need to find a policy that is as affordable to you as possible. There are many companies to choose from, and you can find an ideal deal for yourself. You would actually need to match the policies of different companies before you can choose one for your bike. To find the details about the policies manually can be some task. You can therefore make use of the internet. Many websites provide good information about various policies and the comparisons between them. You just need to finalize on a policy and select it. Make sure that you choose a good company and a good policy and not just a low premium policy.

Waterproof Riding Boots are ideal for the novice or experienced rider. Dry feet won’t only improve the comfort level, but it will also make the longer rides much more gratifying. It is amazing that not many motorcycle owners have waterproof riding boots. This is because most riders don’t know the technique to these boots. If your pal is among them, then gifting him a pair could be a welcome technique to break up the ignorance. The waterproof leather boots can be light, protective, stylish and comfortable. They keep the feet dry and cozy, and make biking in wet weather a calming experience.

Soft Saddlebags are ideal for carrying that extra gear that is so often needed on your bike trips. If your friend like to travel, a soft saddlebags is a perfect gift to give. They are not as costly as the leather ones, and are easy to lubber around. You can get imitation leather or genuine leather saddle bags. Another important advantage of a soft saddle bag is that it can be quite covering and hold large volumes simply by expanding. In fact, you cannot go wrong with a soft saddle bag.

Mesh Riding Jacket is a perfect jacket for those warm blustery days. It will allow protection, yet it will not cook the passenger. If your friend does not have one yet, change the situation. A mesh jacket supplies comfort likewise as security during warm weather, when leather jackets become unthinkable. Most bike manufacturers are now also making mesh jackets and so many attractive options are ready in the market.

Cold-Weather Gloves are indispensable for the chilly days. Cold-weather leather gloves are a great buy as they provide not only warmth but protection. They are always welcome in low-temperature weather. Since they come in a range of thickness, even if your friend has one, chances are he will have one of a different weights and warmth values.

Electric Vest or Jacket Liner is an essential gift for the hardy motorcycle rider. This is quite literally a memorable gift for any motorcyclist. There’s nothing like an electric vest to warm up the cockles on a bleak cold day. It does not only holds the body’s warmth but also adds to it. Warmer bodies can warm extremities, because the blood circulation improves. An electric vest can therefore not only warm your friend’s body but his nose, fingers and toes too.

Windshield is another essential accessory for the ardent cycle enthusiast. A full windshield is a groovy way to make your friend’s rides less fatiguing. Windshields reduce the wind blast hitting the rider. But do involve your friend in the selection process because the rider is the best person to decide what’s good in terms of aesthetics, height, compatibility with bikes etc.

Debuting in 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Harley Davidson offers racing bikes, military bikes and most importantly the Harley roadsters. Harley’s birth is remembered every year when hundreds of thousands of motorcycle fanatics converge on Milwaukee, Wisconsin to pay their respects and homage.

Founded by William Harley and Arthur Davidson in 1903, the first Harley was built in Wisconsin in a tiny wood shed. Growing success led to the1904 opening of the first Harley Davidson dealership by C.H. Lang in Chicago, Illinois. And, did you know that the first Harley Davidson motorcycle was purchased in Milwaukee by Henry Meyer?

Harley Davidson made its motorcycle racing debut in 1905. Clenching their first win that same year, Harley Davidson expanded its racing operations by entering endurance competitions, off-road racing competitions and lap races. Harley Davidson’s continued success led to the development of the racing department of Harley Davidson in 1913.

Benefitting from Harley Davidson’s quality offerings, the United States Military purchased 1/3 of all Harley Davidson motorcycles that were made in 1917. A year later, in 1918, the military’s motorcycle brigade was comprised of over 50% Harleys. World War One was fought with the aid and precision of over twenty thousand motorcycles, the majority of which were Harley Davidson’s. Harley enthusiasts formed The Harley Owners Group (aka HOG) and that organization holds the title of the largest motorcycle club. Membership in HOG grew to over 500,000 members by the year 2000.

The year 2010 will surely be another ground breaking year for Harley Davidson. Enhanced accessories, improved technology and unsurpassed quality will propel Harley into another record breaking year.

The freedom of a motorcycle is something that gets a lot of play today. We’ve been bombarded with some many notions of what a motorcycling lifestyle entails, we just take it for granted. If you were to chime in that motorcycling is a perilous, unpredictable lifestyle and means of transportation, you’d be pegged as some kind of four-eyed square peg. No one wants his or her myth of a Steppenwolf-soundtracked freedom curtailed.

Beware complacency, fellow and aspiring riders. Hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool bikers are savvy enough to know what the score is. They’ve been riding long enough to know that yes, riding a cycle is a matter of life-and-death. Even trips to the local corner store are fraught with more perils than if you decided to jump into your car or SUV. It stands to reason — and the statistics bear it out — that being propped up on two wheels, moving at high rates of speed with little or no protection around your tender flesh is a recipe for disaster. Or at least a nasty case of road rash.

Over a long enough timeline, you will have to put your sweet rocket down — and down hard. Whether it’s someone opening a door while you’re splitting lanes, or lane changes that fail to take you into consideration — you will have to put your motorcycle down at some point in your riding life. This means you have to be prepared to feel the road against your skin — at higher rates of speed than walking. It’s a bit dour, but if you’re a Sunday biker, regaled in your Sunday biking best, you’d better be ready for reality.

Other than knowing all the usual safety tips, every bikers should have some grasp of motorcycle law. This means understanding what rights and privileges you’re entitled to. If you should be involved in a serious accident, you will wish you knew the law. In fact, you’ll probably wish you had a good motorcycle attorney on speed dial to handle all the red tape headed your way.

Safety first — always. Yes, going fast is your prerogative, but you don’t have much between you and the asphalt. There’s no point enjoying all your chopper or crotch rocket have to offer if you can only do it once. Longevity is the key here — stay safe and stay alive.

If you need to bolster your motorcycle law know-how, you can always call a reputable motorcycle attorney and ask a few questions.

Despite what you hear, there are only two problems with living in Los Angeles: the traffic and the traffic. Yeah, it’s a cliche by now, but the truth is the truth. You can’t expect to go anywhere in the City of Angels and not be in your car for at least 45 minutes. If you’re lucky and it’s 3 AM on a Sunday, you might be looking at 30 minutes. No matter what you do, if it’s not within walking distance — which nothing is in LA — you’re starting your engine and hitting the road.

Think traffic isn’t that big a deal? If you think you have it all figured out — you’re wrong. Your harebrained traffic predictors are worthless. Even your own, hard-won experience with the patchwork of highway and overpasses will not prepare you. Just because you managed to speed down the 405 one day, doesn’t mean you’ll have the privilege the next.

The solution, short of relocating, is getting off four wheels and getting on two. No, as long as you’re stuck in a car or truck — you’ll be stuck in a car or truck. It’s a daunting prospect, to be sure. Except for the foolhardy and brazenly brash, few people willingly decide to have a turn on a motorcycle in LA County.

You can’t argue with mobility. The main appeal of getting around on two wheels instead of four is mobility. In California you can split lanes. Though highly controversial, this means a motorcycle can cut between two cars. Lanes no longer matter for the Californian biker. This means inching you way up to the head of the line at any stop light and zooming into and out of traffic.

It sounds good, sure, but it comes with a steep price. In fact, motorcycle fatalities have soared over the last decade to constitute 14% of all roadway deaths, despite the fact that motorcycles account for less than 1% of vehicle miles traveled. This is an alarming statistic, and one that should prompt any life-loving rider to have a Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorney on speed dial at all times.

If you split one lane too many and happen to find yourself in the hospital — you’d better get a qualified Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorney on the phone pronto!
