Spring has finally turned into summer. We have had a lot of rain these past few weeks so everything is as green as can be. My garden is in full bloom, and the black flies are out in full force. Here are some pictures of my garden:
Th ere is no question that gardening tills MY soul.

When it’s too hot for gardening we have been spending a lot of time out on the water canoeing and kayaking. It is definitely that time of year when there is nothing better than being by the water.

We are back and Summer is here. How Glorious!

Boy does it feel great to be home. Summer in Vermont is not to be missed. Here are few pictures from our trip. We did see some amazing pottery, met lots of wonderful people, ate tons of very good food, and walked our feet off.

We camped overnight on the Great Wall of China.

We visited a small family tea farm, where we got to pick tea leaves and we LOVED the people watching not to mention the amazing porcelain!
Now it is time to relax, enjoy our gardens and the lakes and ponds all over Vermont. Mark and I are kayaking when we can and we got to go to Peaks Island, Maine. This Rachel Field poem so expresses the wonderful islands all along the Maine coast.

Spring Shows and a Trip to Asia

Spring definitely arrived early this year. It is a little shocking but fully enjoyable. We have been going to shows in the Washington DC area, trying our our newest ideas and meeting our customers. I have noticed a lot of new babies and dogs!

Families are expanding and I am seeing a lot more Dads at the shows than there used to be.

We met one cute family that required the Dad to entertain their one year old for a very long period of time, while the Mom picked out some plaques. About an hour later, the Dad reappeared in the booth, alone this time, and bought a standing “brother” plaque for a birthday present.

I wrapped several plaques under cover of secrecy for surprise gifts. Most notably, the “psycho” plaque, which tends to make people laugh so hard they cry.

It takes all kinds of people to make the world interesting, and it is so fun to get a window into people’s lives.

Retirement plaques were also quite popular, and it was interesting to hear everyone’s story about how their retirements were going. Some people were out looking for jobs because they were bored while others were still reading through their piles of books.

Mark and are going off to visit our son and new daughter-in-law, Brittan, in Asia. Ariel is coming with us so it should be a very special family time together. I am excited to look at the pottery that inspired me as a young potter while we are in China! Who knows what I will be making in a few months.

Winter Winter Winter

Even though it is RAINING outside right now, we are all feeling the deepness of winter in the northeast kingdom of Vermont. We are watching our woodpiles dwindle and beginning to peek at the seed catalogs that appear in our mailboxes.

It is a wonderful quiet time, to read, and knit and visit with friends. I am baking bread, which is new for me. Judy is knitting blankets for new babies. Jessie is brushing her 5 dogs and 3 cats, they produce a LOT of hair believe me.

At work we are cleaning out the old plaques and making room for new ones. We are also traveling to lots of wholesale trade shows, showing off the new pieces everyone previewed for us here on the web in the fall.

So it is an exciting start to the new decade. Enjoy the site,

Holiday Vacation

There are so many reasons this year’s holiday break will be special. We have one baby being born, one trip to visit grandchildren and children in Kansas. One child is going off to Tasmania for 6 months, and numerous children are coming home for the holidays from near and far.

It has been a very productive and exciting year at Mountaine Meadows. With the economy pushing us, we developed many new items and ways of doing things that are cleaner and more efficient. It was good and useful. We are tired though and ready for a break.

Thank you so much for your interest in Mountaine Meadows in 2009. We are looking forward to 2010.

More New Sayings for Fall 2009

We are introducing new sayings every few weeks now. It is kind of exciting, as we interact with our customers more and more we fine tune our 2010 line. At the retail shows, we learn what people like and why.

At the shop we figure out the best ways to make the pieces.
Currently we are working on a new line of magnets and pins. The magnets are almost ready so we are trying to decide how to display them. There are a couple of neighborhood kids who like to come in after school. Yesterday I put them to work gluing the magnets onto the backs of the ceramic pieces. It was a learning experience for all, a little messy and very very fun.

The pins are really fun. Today everyone wore one of them so we could see how they showed up on people’s clothes. I’ll take some pictures next week.
