Blog

2012-06-14T13:30:00.001+01:00

Nothin feels better than writing on paper,
Don't put it in a blog, scribe it in a letter.
Why post it online so people can whine, say its fine, then blog it to take hits past 1 million and nine.
Anonymous comments can be hard to read,
Hiding and typing opinions of creed.
But what creed are you from when your answers ane none?
Subside in your own little mind. Try to share with humans, it helps with self pride.
AND coincide with what's inside the ride of lies that abide the tidal cries of a social demise.
A wave of emotion, a crash of hate. Scattered debate that can't relate to the fate of any man.
One man's state of mind must shine, yet not hold behind the blind barrier of societies apparent kind illusion.
Confusion of others may oppress, cause distress, you redirect what you must insist.
It's hit and miss like pick n mix, but keep it to you and they will be bliss.

OH Manchester....

I found a Quote i like about the city i love, which has inspired a project....watch this space.....

By no stretch of the imagination is Manchester a picturesque city. It is however, emphatically if unconventionally beautiful. In common with all things beautiful...It is fundamentally flawed. It has a compulsion to preen and show off. It is narcissistic, contrary and wayward, and yet you cannot help but love it. It is both admirable and maddening."

From "Change and Contradiction" by Chris Lethbridge, Diverse City 1994

Imagine the world if cameras were guns...

2012-03-12T11:24:00.006+00:00

Sometimes i daydream...
When im low on steam
That my lens is a Barrel
Shooting the guests on jeremy kyle

Sometimes between jobs...
When ive got away from the mobs, gobs and complete knobs
My nikon miraculously turns into a gun
and I'm pointing it at people just for the fun

Occassionally after reading a brief...
My cameras a pistol, to my relief
"wear a suit, youre photographin the queen"
id wear my jeans but i wanna keep um clean

From time to time, i look at the world when im feeling detached...
and everyones got a phone, with a shotgun attached
Those sacred moments theyre trying to capture
become murder scenes, blamed on the rapture

To help me unwind at the end of the day,
i think of the wars, the famine, the murder, the prey
i ponder the pictures we`d have throughout history
whether the violence would be replaced with images of misery

Then i consider a planet, which isnt the smartest...
The rifles a kodac and the soldiers an artist

Nations protected by expressions and visions
Extremists not murdering but trying to inspire
Strapping polaroids to their chests for all to admire.

Say cheese!!!!
As i give the trigger a squeeze

There must be a gaping hole the size of Simon Cowell’s ego in the American Music Industry if teeny Boy Bands are making a successful come back. I believe that shit happens in cycles, and now we are back to the Boy/Girl band era again, FUCK.

Can’t be arsed with all its clean cut, nice ‘perfect’ image that’s carried out more precise than the assassination of JFK. I’ve had to photograph a couple of the ones doing well at the moment when they first started off, it’s a well ordered manner of doing things, arrive, meet people, shake hands, be polite, talk, laugh, sell sell sell, sign autographs, sing, dance, have a photo taken, then fuck off.

I suppose them doing well in’t States probably has something to do with this and the fact that one of the groups management is the same as Bieber.

I don’t mind them doing well I just don’t want the market to be flooded by a shed load of boy/girl bands again, I didn’t like it last time round and I was only about 10 years old.

Bead for life....

2012-02-21T12:20:00.001+00:00

Innovation is what seperates the spectacular from the ordinary. It requires someone to question the norm, the well trodden path many take and dont wonder if theres a short cut or even a scenic route.
Ive always loved the concept of turning something redundant into a Masterpiece, or turning nothing into something, like a fosil fuel for a creative outlet. It just takes that fleeting moment in the mundane Monday mind to change your world, maybe THE world or the world how weve all agreed to view it but certainly your own and how you interact within it.
Which brings me to Bead for life ( http://www.beadforlife.org/ )

The picture above is an example of the Jewelery they make, all colours, shapes and sizes, they make other products but here im focussing on the jewelry.
Beautiful you may be thinking and not give it another thought but the difference between these beads and the ones you can get in topshop are that theyre made from old magazines and papers. Innovation at its strongest and most charming.
I wont go into too much detail, as you can find out everything you need to know on the link in this blog but the beads are made in Uganda, in extreme poverty and sold on our shores independently by people hosting Beadforlife parties, where the host is encouraged to invite guests and sell the beads, sending the profits back to the people that made them. Whole villages have been built and lives changed because of one innovative woman named Millie, who discovered this creative outlet, little did she know how many lives she would be changing.
If the world had more Millies and everyone thats involved in this project, it would be a better more comfortable place to be.
Weldone http://www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/ and keep up the amazing work to basically save peoples lives.
Go have a beadforlife party!!!!

What Direction will it go?

2012-02-20T10:32:00.001+00:00

About 50 years from the frenzied crazy hysteria that was beatlemania, it seems it continues with any new boy band that emerges. Assisted by an intense media interest and growing popularity of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook where fans can now interact with their ‘idols’. It’s getting a little bit mental.

These images were taken on Salford Quays when One Direction from X Factor fame visited for a routine interview to plug their latest single.

Thanks to the coincidentally timed school holidays, the kids flocked in their hundreds just to catch a glimpse of this well manufactured group. My ears were pierced by squeals and screams before they even arrived, but when they did all hell broke loose. A human barricade was formed around the car park to keep them away from the group, security using megaphones to control the pack. As they were rushed into the radio station, tears fell from the faces of the young girls reaching out for a hoping in touching one of them. WHAT?

I have no doubt that the 5 lads in this boy band have a passion for music, and no qualms with their fame, but where has it come from. How has this intense attention for them emerged? Maybe I need to be a 14 year old girl to understand it. Or is it just flawlessly conjured PR work.

The pun ain't worth Jack Russell, when barking up the wrong Tree!

2012-02-14T13:32:00.000+00:00

I met a little jack russell cross ironically named Tyson after the face tattoo bearing boxer. The basic story is whilst out for a routine walk, this little terror was off his lead and chased a squirrel up a tree unsuccessfully, and got stuck. This resulted in over 4 hours of fire fighters efforts to retrieve him down this hollowed out oak whimpering and yelping on the way. So when I met him we went back to said tree with the owners, luckily on his lead this time, because as soon as we got back to where this little dog was traumatised the whippet tried to shoot back up the centre of it like nothing had happened before. Below is Tyson in all his glory, falling back down after failing to climb again.

Theyve sewn his head on back to front...

How will he Carlos Tevez be remembered in the most public feud since....his last feud. The mixed up lad doesnt know what the frig hes doing but how much can city fans tolerate.

Since the Munich affair which broke the hearts of many-a-Blue, hes shown complete disrespect to the most loyal follwers any football club could dream of, the same followers that have been to the depths of footballing Hell, 32000 at Maine rd in Division 2 is what loyalty means in footballing terms. No FU**ING OFF home to play Golf.

Cheering on such signings as LEE BrADBUrY and ANDY PIE MORRISON, turning SHAUN off the shin GOATER into a folk law legend is what theyre about.Theyve turned nobodies into somebodies through sheer passion mixed with a generous serving of humour, they invented the word banter.

Man city fans have always had their tongues firmly, nervously pressed into thier cheeks but how can they forgive a 3month strike? how can they forget the whole reason for this was because of a so called argument with the Boss? Mancini took this snubbing as a fan would, personally. Most fans would have done the same.

Now the reasons for his second chance make sense in my humble opinion, you hear United fans saying how it would never happen there...well it has, Best used to play pissed! more recently Rio tweetinand not taking the piss?? All was forgiven. The thing is that the fans and Mancini both want more than anything is success, maybe for different reasons but (in true footballing talk) at the end of the day we want trophies.

So if that means temporarily forgiving one of the best strikers in the world whilst showcasing him to the world so that they can get a decent price then so be it.

BUT lets not forget how he made us feel and the position we could be in now if he had sorted his stupid head out.
He stated in an interview that it hurt his feelings seeing fans burning his shirt, so welldone to whomever was responsible as it probably stirred up something inside him that made him want to come back and prove himself.
So Carlos lets have a few goals and then you can go back and work on your handicap.

Weddings...

2012-02-13T13:50:00.004+00:00

I spent saturday at a wedding...turned out to be a really good day, a real winter wedding. Im not a fan of weddings usually, the build up is the worst part, the pressure and the stress takes its toll on everyone but they always turn out to be a privelage to attend, im still yet to go to one where i dont play a part, whether it be bestman, usher or photographer...i wouldnt be supprised if im a Vicar at the next one, anyway the one on saturday was no exception as i was asked to do some pictures after the official snapper had gone...which i gladly obliged, after all the serious parts are done everyone relaxes and has a drink, i ended up getting some nice images, theyve got an old fashioned feel to them, so ill exagerate this via the editing...yet to be edited.
So congratulations to Gabby and William, it was a quality day and i wish you both the best of luck for the future...and youll have the pictures soon....heres a few...

This guy obviously knows what he`s talking about, you couldnt accuse him of being mental...honest. He`s gone to the trouble of compiling a list, a top ten at ten kinda list...it contained stuff about God and plagues and politicians and israel and jesus...quite frankly pretty scary stuff.
So on the basis of this list and its conspiracies printed on an A4 piece of paper, im selling all my possesions and living a life of fear until death knocks on my bolted door.

Saw this in Blackpool not so long ago.

From what I remember the guy chewing the face off the woman to the right had a can of Stella in hand. I love that the older couple to the left haven't a clue, they're just loving the promenade. Juxtaposed charmingly for me. Thanks Blackpool

This is in fact just 9 out of focus photos of a light taken about 3 seconds apart from each other. I like to photograph stuff abstractly?, because I spend all day making sure photos are lit well and in focus thinking of composition aperture and all that shwobble. It's relieving to just let go of all that sometimes and point my camera at something and let it become something else. Taken through the windscreen of my car whilst raining. What can you see?

New england manager appointed

2012-02-09T11:19:00.000+00:00

So sergeant Capello has ran away, like a true italian... the joke about italian tanks in ww2 only having one gear....reverse, springs to mind. Apparently he was a good coach, so the players keep saying on twatter but he lacked the one thing thats needed in that position, charisma.
So many people have lost interest in the national side, it used to be country before club, not anymore. Nights..even weekends used to be planned around watching England play, now its a case of "turn it over, top gears on".
After the MISS-erable attempts in the world cup, i found myself for the first time since i was a boy not getting sucked into it all, the national side has for so long and for so many been like that woman you wanna get with but you know soon as you let her in she will do your head in! but under Capello it was like she`d put about 4 stone on and developed acne, making it easier to forget her and move on.
However....now hes gone...it some how feels like ive just found out she`s joined a gym, started washing and won the lottery.
So whos it gonna be....??? id love nothing more than for Harry the hatchet redknapp to take over, he`s english, he speaks his mind and he`s straight out of a Guy Ritchie film, know wot i mean son? The players seem to be all for this aswel, the united ones anyway...no suprises there though as spurs are breathing down their necks, he could do both jobs at once but maybe half heartedly. Another swiss bank account may be necessary though.
Theres a few names that are being thrown around like a hooker at a Man united xmas party...
Hodgson...8-1....too old
Pardew...12-1...too nice
Shearer...33-1....too comfy on his MOTD sofa
Southgate..20-1...the face of english football??? i hope not
Pierce..... 7-1....my personal choice....
He cant be foreign, so the players are saying...they have trouble with English as it is...ERRRMMMM (harry would have to get an English bank account)... that leaves McClaren out(sounds foriegn anyway)
Mourinho at 8-1 is out of the question BUT how good would that be??? he would inject that swagger back for sure, the women would get back into it aswel...the less said about Southgate, the better...melted welly.
Whatever happens, the players need a good old reshuffle and reminded playing for England is a privelage and not a burden, theyre not Gods, theyre footballers, theyre entertainement, escapism for our fine nation and at a time of uncertainty and recessions, we need something to smile about again.

YOU LOOKIN AT ME SON???

om mani padme hum

2012-02-08T11:14:00.000+00:00

On a fine saturday afternoon, after a week or turmoil stress and wrong doings, me and pal decided to conquer the pennines, as we live at the foot of one of its highest peaks, we set off on our mission, equiped with feet...wrapped in clingfilm, an apple and a loaf of mouldy norwegian bread, we set off to rid our minds of fog and mist left over from a week of racing rats.

the message!!

beaut

ma trecking pal looking at his hands

the path of the self ritious man with cold feet

There had been a snowfall, so it was pretty damn chilly on the willy but as they say the first step is the hardest. Once we had scaled the first of the peaks, after many false horrizons it begins to level out, so after taking in the beautiful sights of the valley of Mossley, which i take for granted on a daily basis, we began to run, through snow and ice and swamp and sheep shit, after a few hours, soaked and cold we stumbled across a message in the not so virgin snow, it read "om mani padme hum". i thought nothing of it at the time but after doing a bit of research it turns out its a Tibetan mantra, which evokes the compassion of Chenrezig...who the dalai lama is an incarnation of. Anyone, finding this out put a smile on my face and ill be looking more into it.....TA

It strikes me that throughout history, recessions and times of hardship or grey tones or war usually inspire or give birth to free thinkers..and colour.
At times of darkness there seems to be a certain amount of propaganda and control by the media, its when were vulnerable and easily manipulated by the government or something more sinister than the government, the puppeteers, the unfaced string pullers behind the curtains of our countries.
Its a time when people feel weak , when finances are drained and everyones scared shitless of checking their latest balance....incase they fall over, flat against the pavement, in the gutter, looking up at the stars, the z-list stars.
But throughout history, times like these have been a boiling pot for people who refuse to let the constant negativity contain them, they instead took inspiration from it and created.
Were in the middle of something that i cant understand, many are confused, some are scared, most are oblivious but unlike before theres noone talking about it, noone filtering the shit and turning it into something that makes sense, whether it be a song, a story, a painting or a friggin poem.
It seems like people arent seeing the big picture, infact theyre not seeing a picture at all, theyre just seeing The only way is Essex on their 60inch Plasma tv after a long day at work in an office that would make hell look appealling, working for a boss that would make the devil turn to god. Is there any wonder this country's got binge drinking issues, its due to escapism, people used to drink to remember, now they drink to forget. Anything to numb the pain and the dread that monday morning brings and the whole week begins again.
Advertisements, tv shows, papers, magazines, films...all showing us a a way of life we will never aquire, perfect hair, perfect weight, perfect houses and cars and teeth and children and sofas and skin and abs and tits and toes and tiny little fucking waists....constantly on a reel 24/7, on billboards on walls on busses on news stands pasted all over the place, screaming out to us YOU COULD HAVE THIS.
All this has to have an effect on our nation, we must be aspiring to it, it has to be changing how we are, how we look at ourselves, how we communicate and how we treat eachother. Imagine a world without all the above, where this impossible idea of perfection doesnt exist, where its ok to be YOU.
The thing is noone seems to give a fuck.
People should be getting inspired but were turning into drones.
Free thinkers have had their balls cut off but its time to grow a new pair! those ideas you have, the ones you think are a waste of time, the passing thought that made you smile, the invention you created on your lunchbreak at work, the notes youve jotted for that book you wanna write, the jokes you wanna tell, the paints you bought, the dress you designed...all these things that you dismiss because it feels out of reach, do the fucking lot of it! ideas are a friggin sweet thing but theyre nothing without the confidence to turn them into actions, thoughts are seeds but actions are full grown, proud Oak trees.
GET ON IT YOU HERBERTS

..or is it maybe shame?

You cant beat playing with perspectives, whether it be opinion based or visually. With a big enough budget this is one we really want to play with on a much larger scale, its gonna be special! So if youve got a bit of dough and you want someone to make you some bread, invest in us and sample the fine delights, the concept would make an amazing promo set for a band...if not we will still create the masterpiece one way or another...watch this space!

Hello 2012

Apparently about 150,000 people die a day all over the world. When your number's up it's up. Whether it be tomorrow, this year or in 50 years time, just enjoy today.

I witness some odd things in my day job. This sight was spotted outside Bolton Magistrates court. People react to cameras in different ways, I've not seen many do this on cue before.

I think everybodys after me
They want to know just what I feel
Pushing wires under my nose
Everybody's standing on my toes
Telling the world what i should know

You said you'd seen life from near the floor
You opened every closing door

Thankyou for always being there
All the nights in which we shared
And we know we're always there

If it ever gets you down
You know I'll always be around
Coz too much just aint enough

We - we who are your property
Whose every single move you see
We dont mind your prying eyes
We dont mind all your lies
Or the headlines that you write

(if you cant find something in this song that shakes hands with something inside you, then something other than nothing is something you should be aspiring to)

She didn't land on anyone's head, wasn't offered to Eve, certainly wasn't a Macintosh, was never bobbed, lived for 3 months and was forbidden to all.

Were you tempted?
