When I was sent this video originally I was in two minds as to whether to send it to my clients as it is very gloomy (to say the least!). However I felt that, if the predictions contained in the video were correct, or even partly correct, it would be wrong of me not to pass this on and let my clients make up their own minds and take appropriate action.

Since I viewed the video during week commencing 11 March 2013 the predictions about Government actions have chillingly come true in the case of the Cyprus proposed tax on savings. Due to the public outcry in Cyprus (and elsewher) there is doubt that the tax will go ahead with even Russian companies suggesting they will bale Cyprus out (Apparently half of the money in the Cypriot banks is Russian).

The big picture is that whilst the UK Deficit is nearly 5 times the size of our economy, Russia’s dept is only three quarters the size of their economy whilst China and India’s dept is about one and half times their economies.

We are therefore seeing a change in the balance of economic power in the world and, however bleak a picture the video paints, I doubt if the Cyprus situation is going to be the last example of wholly unpopular tax measures imposed on our highly indebted economies.
