At a time when drug abuse is a national health issue, Nigeria may soon relax its law against planting and consumption of cannabis, with the declaration that the United Nations ((UN) has approved the use of the drug for medical purposes.

The position of UN on the usage and abuse of drug was declared by Project Officer of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Nigeria, Harsheth Kaur Virk, in her presentation at a one day Public hearing on the need to check rising menace of Pharmaceutical drugs abuse among youth in Nigeria organised by the Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics, and Health.

According to her, Cannabis is a miracle drug allowed for medical purposes by the United Nations, but not for recreational purposes. She said: “Nigeria as a sovereign Nation has its stringent laws against it but international conventions of the UN have approved it for medical purposes based on the outcome of researchers conducted to that effect by globally recognized institutes.”

According to her, aside cannabis, recreational users of other addictive drugs by UN recommendation, should not be criminalized, but rehabilitated, adding, “The Drugs and Crime office of the UN sees addictive drugs users as people who are sick, in need of treatment, care, and rehabilitation.”

The UN official, however, pointed out that the global body was against drug trafficking. She charged Nigeria’s security agencies to be proactive in their anti-drug trafficking campaign and not reactive.

Reports said the 62-year-old was rushed to the hospital late on March 25 with pain in his chest and died several hours later.

Mavrodi’s MMM financial pyramid was a typical Ponzi scheme in which earlier investors receive their profits from subsequent investors. Mavrodi promised returns of 20 percent to 75 percent a month, as well as lotteries and bonuses for investors.

As soon as the number of new clients stopped growing, the pyramid collapsed, causing huge financial losses for at least 10 million people, in some cases leaving them destitute.

In 1994, Mavrodi was elected as a lawmaker, a decision he later said was to ensure he received immunity from prosecution. In 1996, he lost his parliamentary mandate.

In 2007, a Moscow court found him guilty of financial fraud and sentenced him to 4 1/2 years in a penal colony.

In 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, calling on investors to purchase so-called Mavro currency units in a bid to get rid of the “unfair” financial system. Some 15 months later, Mavrodi halted the project.

From 2011-16, Mavrodi launched Ponzi schemes under the MMM brand in India, China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.

In many of those countries, Mavrodi’s operations were subsequently shut down or suspended.

The major problem faced my JAMB candidates now is low JAMB scores. Because of this, there are chances that many of them will fail to get admission into their schools of choice since many schools accepts 180 as their cut off mark.

For this reason, GLtrends.ng have compiled the full list of Top Schools that Accepts 150 JAMB Cut Off Mark Even When You did not choose them in JAMB CBT.

Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar and Republican John Kennedy called for Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to appear before Congress, along with the CEOs of Google and Twitter.

The two lawmakers said the companies “have amassed unprecedented amounts of personal data” and that the lack of oversight “raises concerns about the integrity of American elections as well as privacy rights.”

Senator Ron Wyden asked Facebook to provide more information on what he called a “troubling” misuse of private data that could have been used to sway voters.

Wyden said he wants to know how Cambridge Analytica used Facebook tools “to weaponize detailed psychological profiles against tens of millions of Americans.”

In Europe, officials voiced similar outrage.

Vera Jourova, the European commissioner for justice, consumers and gender equality, called the revelations “horrifying, if confirmed,” and vowed to address concerns in the United States this week.

In Britain, parliamentary committee chair Damian Collins said both Cambridge Analytica and Facebook had questions to answer.

“We have repeatedly asked Facebook about how companies acquire and hold on to user data from their site, and in particular whether data had been taken from people without their consent,” Collins said in a statement.

“Their answers have consistently understated this risk, and have also been misleading to the committee.”

2018 UTME : Another Candidate Emerges With ‘Highest’ JAMB Score

Another candidate for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Ibukun
Oduntan, has emerged ‘best candidate’ in the results released so far.

However, Corona Secondary school, Agbara, Ogun State on Monday called the attention of DAILY POST to their student, Ibukun Oduntan, who scored 344 in the just concluded examination, stating that its student remains the highest so far in the released results.

A statement signed by one Olaitan Anifowoshe of the school stated that ”I would like to call your attention to the scores achieved by Corona Secondary School (CSS), Agbara, Ogun state.

”The highest score from CSS, Ibukun Oduntan is 344. Our top 4 scores are above 320. Our Top 10 scores are above 300.”

Also another candidate, from Musawa in Katsina State, Yusuf Najeeb lawal, 16, also scored 321.

Lawal whose center was at Kaduna Polytechnic scored, 69 in the Use of English, 87 in Mathematics, 93 in Physic and 72 in chemistry.

Meanwhile, Oduntan’s 344 is believed to be the highest score in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The 2018 UTME ended on Saturday, March 17.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the final batch of the 2018 UTME results.

JAMB Head of Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, told our correspondent on phone that the results can be assessed from Tuesday afternoon.

2. Once it opens, check the upper right side of the website

2018 UTME Results: Be Patient, JAMB Tells Candidates As Exams End

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged its 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates to patiently await the results of the just concluded examinations.

The Head of Media of the Board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, stated this in an interview on Saturday in Abuja.

He said the board was working diligently to ensure that the results are processed and posted on the board’s website soonest.

Benjamin said that modalities were being put in place to ensure all the results are transparent and accurate.

He reiterated that the board was delaying some of the results because each has to undergo total scrutiny before being posted on its website to avoid cancellations later.

According to him, some of the results would be ready by Monday, March 19.

He also assured that all technical difficulties encountered to access the website were being addressed.

A number of candidates who sat for the examinations earlier, were yet to receive their results.

While some said that they received the reply of “your results are not ready yet”, others complained that the site says “you did not register for this examinations.’’

The examination, which was scheduled to end on Saturday, March 17, ended on Friday, March 16.
