Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story is the entry of Scenema Concept International (released through Viva Films) to the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Produced by Scenema Concept International (released through Viva Films ) and under the direction of Tikoy Aguiluz, “Manila Kingpin” stars Jeorge “E.R.” Estregan in the title role, with Carla Abellana and Phillip Salvador.

The MMFF action movie is based on the story of the notorious gang leader in Tondo named Nicasio “Asiong” Salonga, whose true-to-life accounts had been portrayed in several movie versions since 1961 (starring Joseph Estrada). It is also the the first Filipino major film produced in black-and-white in the 21st century as well as the returning action genre movie.

“Manila Kingpin” is said to be the replacement to the original projects “Mr. Wong” (starring Robin Padilla) and “Hototay” (Regal Films, starring Nora Aunor), after the latter two had backed out from the event.

Other cast-members include Baron Geisler, Yul Servo, Dennis Padilla, Ketchup Eusebio, Ping Medina, Amay Bisaya, Gerard Ejercito, and Jerico Ejercito.

Panday 2 [2011]

The adventures of the legendary blacksmith continue as GMA Films and Imus Productions launch “Panday 2,” the sequel to the top-grosser of the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

After playing an amulet-guided hero in his last blockbuster hit, certified box-office king and MMFF best actor Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. reprises his role as the sword-wielder Flavio/Panday.
In his new adventure, Flavio takes on the greater challenge of protecting the world against evil forces, this time with the help of Arlana, a lady who transforms into the dragon Bagwis, played by Kapuso primetime queen Marian Rivera.

In the past, Bong and Marian starred in separate movies in the MMFF. And now, along with a powerhouse cast of veteran and young talents, the two finally star together in what is touted to be the biggest and most-anticipated movie in the 37th edition of the MMFF.

Returning as Panday’s nemesis Lizardo is Philip Salvador, who delivers another convincing portrayal of the evil character. On the other hand, Iza Calzado returns as Flavio’s love interest Maria Makiling.

Completing the cast are Benjie Paras as Alulod, Flavio’s new ally, Joonee Gamboa as Lolo Isko, Flavio’s guardian since childhood, Robert “Buboy” Villar as Bugoy, Flavio’s adopted son, and Yogo Singh and Isabel Frial as Bugoy’s friends.

Panday 2 begins with Flavio (Bong Revilla) and Maria (Iza Calzado) settling in the peaceful and quiet town of Matandang Kahoy. However, life takes a dark turn when Lizardo (Philip Salvador) returns and captures Maria.

While fulfilling his quest of saving his lady love, Flavio crosses paths with Bagwis/Arlana, a Ragona whose father was killed by Lizardo. As Flavio and Arlana join forces, the two grow closer with Arlana eventually falling for Flavio.

However, Lizardo proves to be a stronger and more difficult force to overcome. Things become worse when Arlana also falls prey to Lizardo, leaving Flavio with the task of taking down the villain once and for all.

Will Panday finally destroy Lizardo and restore peace on earth? Will he save both Maria and Arlana? Who among the two ladies will Flavio end up with?

With visual effects twice as amazing, Panday 2 takes viewers on a magical journey into the world of dragons, fairies, and other mythical and monstrous beings. The story also promises to be more thrilling, fast-paced, and more romantic than before.

Mac Alejandre, who also helmed the first Panday movie, returns as director of this Carlo J. Caparas epic.

The legend continues with “Panday 2,” GMA Films and Imus Productions’ official entry in the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival, coming to theaters nationwide beginning December 25.

Synopsis
Awarded Radio personality George Harrison Apostol/DJ Heidee (Sarah Geronimo) is a radio personality and a DJ for a radio show which tackles on love problems after many calls concerning about tackling problems on love Heidee encounters a call from a listener named Melissa (Megan Young) who is seeking advice on how to break up with her boyfriend Andrew ([Gerald Anderson]).

After hearing the conversation through the radio Andrew confronts Heidee at the radio station on suing her for her given advice leading to there break up George decides to make it up by helping Andrew get Melissa back.

The television trailer premiered in the talk show Gandang Gabi, Vice! where Vice Ganda is also the host. It was announced in the trailer that the film will premiere on October 12, 2011. However, during the premiere of No Other Woman, it was announced that the delayed premiere will be October 26, 2011.

It was graded "B" by the Cinema Evaluation Board of the Philippines.

Box Office
The film opened with a P23.6 million gross during its first day. And on it's third day it grossed, P76 million. And continued to break Philippine box-office records after grossing P109 million on its fourth day of showing. It broke the P200 million mark on it's seventh day of showing. It is currently breaking the records set by the previous Star Cinema and Viva Films produced film, No Other Woman. Praybeyt Benjamin is also the second Filipino movie that reached 300 million mark after No Other Woman that reached P318 Million in its 4 weeks.

Rakenrol [2011]

Shot over two years ago, and infused with a love for the underground music scene that both director Quark Henares and co-writer Diego Castillo are involved with, Rakenrol is a lightly comic charmer that's sustained by its likeable leads and easygoing, big-hearted style. Though this fourth feature by Henares (Gamitan, Keka) is a personal work in many respects — especially with its total absorption in the young, indie music scene of small clubs, wacky misfits, young wannabes and pretentious scammers — it's as much a love story set in that milieu as a movie about the milieu itself. What holds the episodic film together is the undeclared and unrequited love of the main character, songwriter Odie, for his high-school flame Irene, who's since blossomed into a beautiful young woman who either doesn't recognise or won't admit to Odie's feelings for her.

With no great emotional traumas, Henares and Castillo keep this element quietly bubbling away beneath the patchwork narrative of the two leads and their loafer friends Mo and Junfour as they negotiate the bottom rungs of the music scene. Though the ending is never hugely in doubt (given the movie's optimistic tone), it does spring one half-suprise near the end, and to its credit manages to keep the love story within bounds by concentrating its resolution in one, well-written scene near the end which questions the narrow line between love and friendship. It's hardly an earth-moving moment, but both actress-singer Glaiza de Castro (Still Life, Squalor) and actor Jason Abalos (Adela) come through strongly, with de Castro showing she can do more than just cute.

With Abalos mainly in an observer role, the highly photogenic De Castro, now 23, is the main driver of the film, but she's given strong support by Ketchup Eusebio (Cinco) as fellow band member Mo. The showiest playing comes from well-known singer-actor Diether Ocampo as Odie's love-rival — a wicked send-up of a rock lothario, who's more in love with himself than anyone else, that just about stays the right side of going way over the top. The same can't be said of Ramon Bautista, as a super-camp music video director, and Ricardo Cepeda, as a New Age guru, but they're all part of the movie's good-natured fun.

Henares' shooting style is simple and unadorned, with handheld camerawork that's always focused on the actors. The film has no particular sense of place but the dialogue (with some laugh-out-loud moments) and engaging performances make that unnecessary. Given the movie's inconsequential development, trimming of the second half by about 10 minutes would improve its flow, but otherwise editing is tight, with scenes always cut off before over-running their natural length.

Anne Curtis is excited about her latest film No Other Woman, which also stars Derek Ramsay and Cristine Reyes, because she gets to showcase her mettle as an actress. “I think this is really the last adult film from Star Cinema for this year,” explained Anne. “It’s a mature love story affair so I’m excited kasi puro mga rom-com (romantic-comedy) ang mga napapanood natin [so] for a change it’s something with depth.”
The actress also shared the project also serves as a first. “It’s the first time that I’m portraying a role that deals with domesticated life kasi laging boyfriend-girlfriend ang issue [ng past movies ko]. Ito kasi mag-asawa na [and] it’s a first for me. Ibig sabihin ready na ako for mature roles, hindi na pang-bagets. Kasi iba na naman. Bago na naman kasi laging comedy o kaya love story, ito parang it’s something far from ginagawa ko in the past.”

Anne related that when she dubbed for the movie, she was surprised when she saw her acting in this project. “Naloka talaga ako, sabi ko, ‘Oh my gosh!’ Pero ang galing kasi parang natawa ako sa sarili ko kasi I’m not used to seeing myself on the big screen na ganon so nakaka-excite din. I was so excited to get into the role and I was super involved sa script and everything and made sure everything [was] maayos.”

“My Neighbor’s Wife,” is said to be a controversial sexy drama flick that deals with infidelity and how it will redefine the meaning of love.

The stars of My Neighbor's Wife-Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe, Jake Cuenca and Carla Abellana-heat up the big screen with their individual and combined sex appeal to unravel a story about marital infidelity between two modern young couples.

Synopsis
Jake and Carla play Couple No. 1. Bullet and Jasmine are so rich that the wife considers her husband's job as co-owner of a bar just his hobby. Jasmine spends most of her time shopping either with her mom or her equally wealthy and bored friend (played by Dimples Romana). Bullet forbids her from working so she can tend to him and to their son Tommy (Yogo Singh) full time.

Dennis and Lovi, on the other hand, are working-class Couple No. 2, Aaron and Giselle. He's a medical-school graduate but instead of taking the board exams, he gets into failed business ventures and has to get a loan from Bullet to finance his latest venture, an auto-repair shop. She's a fairly hard-working medical representative but she still can't afford the little luxuries (e.g., jewelry and designer goods) that she longs for. Giselle wants these luxury items so she won't look shabby in the company of her husband's rich friends.

The lead characters live in one condominium but on different floors, with Couple No. 2 renting Couple No. 1's spare unit. Bullet and Aaron are best friends, which explains why the former is very generous with the latter. Their wives have become bosom buddies as well, so Jasmine also shares her blessings with Giselle, including a pair of earrings that would play a pivotal part in the discovery of the first case of infidelity.

Like any couple, they have their own share of marital woes. Bullet and Jasmine bitterly fight because of his philandering ways while Aaron and Gisele perpetually argue over money. While Bullet finds sexual satisfaction from his flings and Jasmine has turned cold on him, Aaron and Giselle continue to have a healthy and an even enviable sex life.

Giselle, by her own admission, is good in bed so Aaron willingly overlooks her shortcomings. Even while he was still punishing her for an indiscretion involving his best friend, Aaron still can't resist her charms. But when it was his turn to fool around with a supposedly conservative partner, he exhibits the same willingness and passion.

Synopsis

Thelma is a 2011 Filipino inspirational-drama film released by Star Cinema with TimeHorizon Pictures with Maja Salvador portraying the title-role. The film is directed by Paul Soriano and is inspired by true stories. The film premiered in September 7, 2011 and received an "A" rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board.

Production
Maja Salvador underwent training by a national track star and Survivor Philippines castaway Elma Muros and her husband Jojo Posadas for her role as a runner in the independent film. Paul Soriano was chosen to direct the film.Filming began whilst simultaneously taping for Salvador's show Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.

Synopsis
One struggle. One chance. One dream. The film tells the story of a tomboyish Ilocano lass from Ilocos Norte, Thelma (Maja Salvador) whose family is beset with challenges when she discovers her uncanny gift of speed. Her talent then opens doors for her – to elevate her family’s situation and change the course of her own life. Tween Academy: Class of 2012 is a Filipino film for tweens produced by GMA Films and SM Development Corporation. The show Tween Hearts, top-billed by the love teams of Joshua Dionisio - Barbie Forteza and Jake Vargas - Bea Binene, together with Joyce Ching and Kristofer Martin, Lexi Fernandez and Derick Monasterio, Louise delos Reyes and Alden Richards, Elmo Magalona is the basis of the film. Plot

Kara (Barbie Forteza), George (Bea Binene), and Enzo (Elmo Magalona) are 3 best friends who have been constantly been bullied at school and nicknamed the Imba Trio. On the the night of the school dance Enzo gets carried out of the dance by Maximo (Derrick Monasterio) and his crew because he accidently bumped into Chloe (Lexi Fernandez) while dancing. And while Kara and George try to help him they also get dumped in the trash along with Enzo and are helped by Christian (Alden Richards) and Diego (Kristofer Martin). After the prom the 3 decide to make a list to do that help them be popular so they won't get bullied and pranked anymore by the date of the prom, and they make the list a dare.

The next day at school Enzo learns that he has to retake a class again. And after trying to go to the bathroom but is stopped by the janitor who is still cleaning the bathroom. So Enzo decides to use the women's restroom hoping no one will notice. But he bumps into the new teacher, Maddie (Sam Pinto), and develops a crush on her. Meanwhile, George and her best friend Jepoy (Jake Vargas) is back in town. And Kara is at a comic convention where she helps Robin (Joshua Dionisio) when his backpack gets snatched, and unknowingly sells him the #1 issue of Metal Man online. Later that night, Enzo helps Maddie get her car out of a tight parking space and locks himself out of his car. Kara later becomes friends with Robin online without knowing his true identity. George later hangs out with Jepoy who sings his new song for her and starts to think he has a crush on her and she starts to develop a crush on him.

In 2010, Regal Films decided to remake their 80s cult hit film Temptation Island that starred Dina Bonnevie, Deborah Sun, Jennifer Cortez, Bambi Arambulo, and Azenith Briones. Initially, ABS-CBN had the TV rights from Regal Films to remake the film into a TV series together with another 80s film, Underage. But Regal Films asked to take back the rights and the two companie compromised that ABS-CBN artist would be part of the remake. The initial cast were supposedly Marian Rivera, Angelica Panganiban, Lovi Poe, Pokwang, Carla Abellana, Shaina Magdayao, and Andi Eigenmann. But Regal films decided to co-produce the film with GMA Films, which is ABS-CBN's rival network's film studio GMA Network, they then pulled out ABS-CBN artists of the film. In March 2011, the final cast was revealed and that the film will star Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, and Lovi Poe. The leading men completed the cast with Aljur Abrenica, Tom Rodriguez, and Mikael Daez. Paulo Avelino was initially one of the leading men, but later refused the role of Ricardo.

In April 2011, production started in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

Plot

Eugene (Sam Milby) arrives in Bukidnon with only one intention: to forget his problems at work. But when he meets Raffy (KC Concepcion) and as they travel and go on ridiculous and death-defying activities together, they start to form a friendship that goes beyond Euge’s original plan. Raffy helps Euge appreciate himself more and to look at things in a positive way. With Raffy, Euge begins to believe in himself again. But life is truly ironic. The moment Euge expresses his feelings for her, Raffy suddenly starts to push him away. She admits that he can never have her, and she doesn’t want Eugene to hope for a happy ending with her, because she cannot be loved.

Now, it is Euge’s turn to make Raffy believe in love again, just as how she reminded him to believe in himself. But is faith enough to change the course of their destiny? And is his love strong enough for him to sacrifice everything for a relationship that will not last, and for a girl who will leave him soon?
