Race 2 is the cinematic equivalent of a trashy novel. It never holds together as a sensible piece of work, but as an insensible piece of work, it’s pretty enjoyable. Director-duo Abbas Mustan create a cocktail of glamorous stars, exotic foreign locations, slick action scenes, and an outrageous plot. At nearly two-and-a-half hours, the film is too long by at least 20 minutes, but I’ll give this to Race 2: it’s seldom boring. I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five for Abbas-Mustan’s Race 2. The film has no intellectual pretensions; its only ambition is to offer a good time. In that, it mostly succeeds.

RACE 2 takes off with a bang. Literally. The twists and turns keep you captivated. The post-interval portions start with gusto, but the writing isn't foolproof. On the whole, RACE 2 has a rocking first half, glam and glitz, great looking men and women, spectacular locales, extravagant making, adrenaline pumping action and of course, a solid brand that's gonna make moviegoers flock the cineplexes initially, but the film lacks the sustaining power thanks to its uneven second half. The writing isn't watertight, the film lacks a hit score, the climax is far from effective and overall, RACE 2 pales in comparison to RACE.

Heists, hot-babes, roulette, raging cars, gizmos and gags - Director duo, Abbas-Mustan have thrown in everything with pompous grandeur, save for a riveting plot that shocks or stuns. It focuses on superbly digitized Hollywood-esque actions scenes, racy chases and blow-ups (plus a 'designer' star-cast that salivates on style) - all of which, a visual treat - but it doesn't make your heart race, really. Wish they'd traded in their glitzy stilettos for running shoes and slick suits for a solid story. Then this race would still be in the run, we think.

Race 2 isn’t so much a sequel as an ill-advised rehash. Revenge, one character says, is a dish best served cold. Ideas, for sure, aren’t best served stale. Race 2 moves at a fair clip and is packed with explosions, stunts and chases that might be crowd-pleasing. The trouble is that the narrative is too breathless for its own good. Is Race 2 on your mind? Get rid of it pronto. This is a wreck of a movie strictly for action junkies who might be looking for a feverish two-and-a-half-hour ride that is far more giddy than heady.

The screenplay is of the kind which makes the drama unbelievable, long and boring. Actually, the excitement typical of a thriller is missing in the film because of the many giveaways and several unbelievable, very convenient and even ridiculous twists and turns. On the whole, Race 2 is not as entertaining as it should’ve been. Its biggest minus point is that it does not thrill and shock and it is too lengthy. Given its high cost (approximately Rs. 90 crore plus), the film is poised to be a losing fare.

Tightly done action sequences, lots of glamour and one liners that cater to the classes and the masses is what makes Race 2 worth a watch. While the ensemble cast has done a super job of making a gripping thriller -- would call it a thriller rather than a suspense-thriller because the suspense is very predictable -- after a long time in Bollywood, the climax and music are the two sore points of the movie.One must then watch Race 2 for Saif, who with his polished dialogue deliveries and smart one-liners, Abraham, who has played a scheming businessman with aplomb and of course for all the three ravishing ladies who also know how to act.

Five years later, we have a sequel, and it's all so been there-seen that-so what, that 'Race 2' just passes in front of our eyes without registering.Race 2' looks exactly like 'Race'. Which may have been intentional because plush locations and pretty playthings and buff men are very much Abbas Mustan trademarks. But all it does is cause a dismally same-same feeling. So much so that the new characters start feeling old within a few frames. Even the plot, which has a one-line pitch, Ranveer out to avenge the death of the love of his life, becomes subservient to the larger cause of looking glossy.

The film is defined by its well defined and crazy action sequences – and a lot of it. Shiraz Ahmed’s story doesn’t come across as the most defining feature of the film: blame the excessive action for that. The film is left open-ended, and – I can bet anything on this – there’s a sequel to this one coming up soon. The story isn’t able to keep one glued to the screen: your attention sways from not-enjoyable to boring several times. In all, ‘Race 2’ is a grand display of money. The adrenaline-pumping action is the plus point of the film, but too much of that does no good to it. Two and a half stars from me for this Friday’s ‘expensive’ release.

In the first edition of Race, the twists kept us hooked and interested, so in Race 2, we obviously expected more and better twists. Director duo Abbas-Mustan do try (and desperately) to give us more than a handful, but keeping up with them is labourious. One is bound to lose the plot (just like directors did!) in the process. Entertaining in parts, Race 2 is all about exotic locales, good looking men, hot skimpily-clad chicks, action and games. What’s wrong with that, right? Well, it lets you down in many departments – the direction is messy and so is the plot, the screenplay is rushed up and the special effects are definitely not up to the mark. And most importantly, it’s not a sequel, but a rehash of the first part. Race 2, with its twists and turns, is like one of those terrible roller-coaster rides that leave you nauseated and sick by the end of it!

Race 2 is shot beautifully, with a crisp edit and has all the action you’d want and more — be it street fighting with John Abraham’s abs for the win, a one night stand, car chases and explosions or a mile high fight club sequence which defies all logic, but still works, big time! At some point in the film, Deepika says “I can recognize that money making expression anywhere” and to that I’d say, Abbas Mustan have a big money maker on their hands with Race 2.

On many levels, a movie that’s all fluff and no stuff can be quite exhausting. And, ‘Race2’ is just that. It’s just a pompous wannabe-thriller that is devoid of any logic. It’s a race, we are told, on numerous occasions, by the two leading heroes and their two gorgeous sidekicks, almost trying to justify why they’ve taken two-hours-and-thirty-minutes of our lives. Yet, there’s never a real sense of what they are racing for. Time, money, babes, or cars? While its predecessor, the original ‘Race’, had shown some promise and glimpse of a good plot, ‘Race2’ steers away from any such attempts, and instead focuses on good looks and charm. On the whole, this is just a lazy sequel of a famed potboiler that can be watched at home… on a (borrowed) DVD.

Race2 is so high on style that no character is ready to talk normally in the film. Good amount of energy has been spent on introducing the characters. But then this is needed in a film like Race2. Sleek characters, smart one liners and a very stylish Saif Ali Khan. Race2 franchise seems satisfactory.People wear sunglasses in dark rooms in Abbas-Mustan's films. Basically this was necessary to get a role in Race2. Race2 is more stylised than Race but with less thrilling moments. Too much dependence on style hampers its chances. Race2 can be a good watch for people who like Hollywood ishtyle heist films but would be an average watch for others. The second half is dragged and the climax is not very convincing. Like his earlier movie Pyaar Ka Punchnama, director Luv Ranjan’s Akaash Vani is a promising but ultimately inconsistent film that starts out at one place, but ends up at quite another. This long, rambling love story makes an important point about marriage, and about parents shoving their decisions down their children’s throats to stay within societal norms. It even touches fleetingly upon the issue of marital rape. But it’s a pity these thoughts get somewhere lost in this convoluted mess of a film.I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for director Luv Ranjan’s Akaash Vani. It’s a good cure for insomnia. Queue up for a ticket, those of you having trouble sleeping.

Like PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, AKAASHVANI also has a bond with realism. It's about the present times. It communicates the contemporary lingo. Yet, it has the old world charisma that still makes you go weak in your knees. It has shades of everything, from fidelity and commitment to resentment and mistrust to anguish and betrayal. Handled most efficiently, with several authoritative moments, AKAASHVANI is, without doubt, a delicate love story that triumphs. With PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, Luv Ranjan demonstrated he's a commendable storyteller. With AKAASHVANI, he only seals it furthermore! On the whole, AKAASHVANI appeals for the characters that Luv Ranjan has created as well as the buoyancy and gusto with which the principal actors bring alive the characters on screen. The movie contains just the right blend of sparkle and spice and is definitely worthy of a watch. Go for it!

Given the situation of women in the country, the film rightly touches upon topics like psychological, sexual harassment post marriage. The characters, issues are realistic and sensible; except for the multiple irrelevant songs and scenes that drag the movie endlessly. Length is a major flaw. There are countless young couples in love not knowing how to break the news to their parents and there are countless parents who think only they know which boy is best for their daughter. Both are right in their own thinking. A father always wants his daughter to be comfortable. A daughter on the other hand, at most times, is already in love when proposal day comes. Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola might well be described as Bhardwaj’s holiday movie – a mad story with crazy characters – but fortunately for us, even in a light mood, the director can be counted on to say interesting things. This outrageous comedy after all shows little concern for our health as it delivers laugh after side-splitting laugh. Returning to form after the disappointing Saat Khoon Maaf, Vishal Bhardwaj gives us a film that’s enjoyable and relevant in equal measure. I’m going with four out of five for Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. The year’s first gem has arrived – don’t miss it!

MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA is definitely not Vishal's best work, though the master touch is evident in several sequences. The story barely moves in the first hour; there are stretches when the account begins to blur. Thankfully, the sequence of events and some exceptional moments in the post-interval portions save the film from tripping. At the same time, I wish to add that the film could've done with some judicious trimming for a stronger impact. It's way too lengthy! It's theatrical, insightful, wickedly clever and, often, too funny to even laugh at, if you know what I mean. Once the director gets to the point, we realize it’s a very meat-and-potatoes kind of story, the most meat-and-potatoes Bharadwaj has been, despite the weird contrivances he includes in the telling of it. The conflict is the familiar poor `kisaan’ vs rapacious overlords, and true love vs forced alliances, and how education save our souls, shot through in some parts with the sort of VB flourish that make his films such delights. This I attribute to overconfidence. Look at it like this. A team needs one run to win. Nine wickets are gone with 6 balls remaining. Bhardwaj is at the crease. All he has to do is tap the ball and run for a single. So what does he do? At the very first ball he jumps down the crease and tries to hoist it out of the ground. Ten minutes before the ending of the first half (which is mighty slow), the movie is still trying to set the plot. Just before the interval, there’s a twist (not like you couldn’t guess it) and during the break, you wonder what the movie is trying to show. This confusion is carried on till the end of the second half, in which, characters appear and disappear conveniently. At the end of it, even though they had worthy intentions, I doubt the filmmakers knew what exactly they wanted to portray through their various characters. Watch the film for Pankaj Kapoor and Shabana Azmi and some fun that the duo bring about. But don’t expect too much out of it. Final warning: Bharadwaj fans, stay away from this one.

Performances were superlative, but what’s the point when the story is haphazard. Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola may still be entertaining for many for its sheer randomness, but it was definitely not my cup of tea. I will find many hard-core Bhardwaj fans agreeing.

‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ takes us into a whirlwind journey that’s incredibly crafted, brilliantly textured, and lusciously witted. The narrative never loses focus, and plods along with effortless ease and impeccable finesse. Each situation is created with utmost sincerity and each line is written with tremendous delight. He uses his quirky sense of humour to turn the politics of an unjust society, and probably Hindi cinema, around. And, he’s got an aged, double-layered landlord, a light-eyed Communist and a gorgeous wild child to help him in the exercise. His satire remains what it sets out to do, without ever shifting into a full-fledged reform movement. And, therein lies his brilliance.

repetitive and increasingly exhausting series of shootouts. By the end, those guns might as well

Gangster Squad is a very violent film, from beginning where a man is chained to two cars and torn in half to the machine-gun battle at a hotel in the climactic scene. This film was scheduled to open in September last year however the release got stalled, following the mass killings in Colorado, wherein a scene depicting people shot mercilessly inside a movie theater had to be canned and re-shot. Director Ruben Fleischer leans too hard on the violence card, but with little return in the way of excitement, and totally at the expense of the characters and storyline. It is only Sean Penn that feels completely fresh. Perhaps he was playing a layered copy of a movie stereotype. Nonetheless, he seems to be living and breathing convincingly in another time and another place. Even if this place is only a movie fantasy. Brutal, barbaric, mixed with some good acting, a treat for all Gangster-movie lovers.

There is a fine line between being pulp and being corny. Gangster Squad pretends to be the latter but ends up being the former, and it’s only the masterful acting by Sean Penn and the heart put into it by Josh Brolin that just about save the day. If you must, watch Gangster Squad without any expectations, and while you may still be disappointed, at least you will not go on a binge of junk food and aerated drinks, without a care for calories, having lost all faith in Hollywood and the world at large (okay, I’m not saying I did that, but I may have…).

For a raconteur who's planning to relate a crime story, well, it's easy to plot a thriller in a train journey: A moving mode of transport, the terrain, the proximity to unfamiliar people... All you need is to lace the film with occurrences and incidents that would give the spectator goose bumps. RAJDHANI EXPRESS also uses this mode of transport [train] to narrate a story. In view of the fact that the genre is thriller, one expects smart lines and electrifying episodes, captivating goings-on and tension-filled moments, all seamlessly juxtaposed in the narrative to entice the spectator, but RAJDHANI EXPRESS does so half-heartedly.On the whole, RAJDHANI EXPRESS has its moments, but they are few and far between.

It is impossible for me to process how this works. And it probably is beyond the realm of human comprehension to understand the rationale that goes behind funding these kinds of films. There has to be a definite motive, and at times like this, it isn't very obvious -- like to shame the Railway Ministry, or worse, the Anti-Terrorism Squad. Rajdhani Express, directed by Ashok Kohli, is a train-wreck of a movie that has a non-existent plot, but pretends as if it is a racy thriller.

What’s Good: An intriguing narrative and well bound story. What’s Bad: Lacks logic at many crucial points in the film and loose acting by many at large. Existentialism rarely translates to a good Bollywood movie, but this is one rare exception. A major grouse against the film is the absence of subtitles in a movie that is in English with a smattering of French and Mandarin (Chinese). Where the film excites with superbly-executed stunts (they never get old, do they?), it also disappoints with a direction-less screenplay (JC's jack-of-all-trades nature to blame?). Recommended solely for those who enjoy Chan's unique brand of humour-laden action with light doses of preachiness and drama, this one could be better, so much better.

This silly action-adventure marks a career low-point for Jackie Chan. At 58, the finest kung fu-teer of his generation is clearly past his prime.The redeeming feature of his films has always been the intricate stunts, but in CZ 12 (aka Chinese Zodiac), the accent is on a dull story with very little action or humour. At 58, Chan still bravely takes on punishing stunts with a smile. His trademark slapstick-infused kitchen-sink style Kung Fu thrills and brings a smile to the face. But the absurd writing messes up his chance to deliver a memorable farewell kiss to the genre that boosted him in to superstardom. While fans of the yesteryear Jackie Chan should steer clear, lovers of so-bad-it’s-good films might want to take a look at this one, though. A colleague (who doesn’t care too much for Bollywood) dubbed this badly made film, Chinese Dabbang while I must confess that I myself was enthusiastically lapping up the silliness myself.

There is nothing really to look forward in the movie. The plot goes haywire, the dialogues are plain dumb, half the movie was in Mandarin and French and the cinematography was mediocre. There are unnecessary comical twists to everything. I mean EVERYTHING! Jackie Chan, post the completion of this movie, now holds the record for performing the most stunts by a living actor. The only saving grace of the movie were few of Jackie Chan’s stunts and fight sequences.This movie is the kind that would make people laugh only if they are with friends who are looking for cheap thrills or are intoxicated. However, the movie is not boring. It will definitely keep your eyes wide open (most time wondering what the hell is happening).Verdict: A full nonsense no-brainer of a movie.

Table No 21 squanders its potential. The film’s ending is bold, but little else is consistent or gripping. It’s also unforgivably lazy and amateurish in its approach to characterization and narrative. We’re introduced to likeable protagonists at the start of the film, we’re meant to care for them as they struggle in difficult circumstances, then abruptly and without any warning they’re stripped off their likeability so the film can deliver its shocking climax.I’m going with two out of five for director Aditya Datt’s Table No 21. Even dependable actors like Paresh Rawal and Rajeev Khandelwal sleepwalk through their roles.

Table No. 21 is the sort of determinedly silly movie that can make fine actors like Paresh Rawal and Rajeev Khandelwal look foolish. Echoing films as diverse as Oldboy and Slumdog Millionaire, director Aditya Datt creates a reality game show-revenge saga that gathers some steam in the last act, but by then it’s too little, too late. Anyway, the climax followed by sombre facts is well-intentioned but feels entirely unearned. The half-way interesting premise is hobbled by the lame performances and dialogue. Mr Khan keeps repeating the one rule of the game: If you lie, you die. And at one point he declares, in a faux creepy voice: Secrets are sexy.

For a story that stays focused on the lead couple, and a game-show on an island, Aditya Datt has done a good job of entertaining, serving some suspense (intriguing, if not nail-biting) and dishing it out with some hard reality bytes. The first half is slow-paced, as a thriller it has its flaws, the direction isn't really superlative, but post-interval it spins into another zone and the climax hits home. On the whole, Table No. 21 should be watched for the reactive social commentary that it is, and should not be misconceived as a vigilante film. Unfortunately, along the way, it yo-yos wildly between semblances of profundity and dashes of pulp. The only time he decides to run away from the game is when he’s asked to shave his wife’s head. Going bald for a while is the worst thing that can happen to a human being. Or so it seems. As you go up the levels of the show, the dares start getting more ludicrous: now kiss her in a public square, now slap him hard (“zordar chaata”).... You already knew this was a strange sort of couple. While engaging in parts, you head out of the theatre knowing this was an odd, bald kind of film too.

The film is a cinematic adaptation of Lee Child's 2005 novel One Shot. Jack Reacher is Child's successful fictional character from his mystery/thriller novels. Action scenes look authentic. There is no loud background score. The highlight is one of the suspenseful car chase sequences, where Reacher is chasing the bad guys while being chased by the cops. It's been shot brilliantly. The film is more of a cerebral drama than a fast-paced, modern action flick. The suspense is satisfying and so is Cruise's 'true to character' performance. A lot depends on whether you like Jack Reacher, the pragmatic investigator.

Though the timing of the release of 'Jack Reacher' is a bit skewed this Christmas season, this mystery thriller is surprisingly a decent whodunit with a moral code. The screenplay is verbose and exposition-heavy in the first half before offering a degree of satisfaction towards the end. The conspiracy at the root of it all turns out to be rather humdrum and the plot delivers no surprising revelations. There are moments of good, dry humour. Overall, as a movie, it isn’t all that bad. Jack Reacher reminded me of Jason Bourne in bits and pieces (not anywhere near as cool as Bourne, but will suffice). The background score was quite neatly done. Tom Cruise acted stupendously and did complete justice to the role (barring his height of course). Helen (Rosamund Pike) who played the shooter’s defense attorney did a good job as well. Her character was charming yet finicky. On the whole, director Christopher McQuarrie has done a pretty decent job of bringing Jack Reacher to life. Verdict: A really cool protagonist and a decent suspense thriller. Go for it.

Jack Reacher” lumbers through a series of beatings, shootings and bludgeonings on its way to a climactic, not terribly surprising showdown. There is a pretty good car chase and a lot of very bad dialogue. Apart from the car chase, the only real fun in “Jack Reacher” comes from Mr. Herzog and Robert Duvall, called in near the end for some marvelously gratuitous scenery chewing as a gruff former Marine. They enliven the movie’s atmosphere of weary brutality for a few moments, but they also call attention to the dullness of their dramatic surroundings.

What this film needed was personality and character; what it’s left with is sameness. But that’s probably enough for Salman Khan fans.

More than a sequel, Dabangg 2 is a Dabangg reboot. While it carries forward the charm and chronicle of Chulbul Pandey in the second part, Arbaaz Khan employs exactly the same formula from its predecessor in designing the sequel. For a fan of the star in question, all that matters is whether the star seems to be having fun. In which case Dabanng 2 is just the ticket, since Salman looks to be having the time of his life. Chulbul Pandey -- after a movie riddled with painfully unsubtle product placement and odd public-service style dialogues made to convince villagers that women can get jobs -- climactically gets to beat up an ageing politician. The film itself is better than the original -- or, to word it differently, is less unwatchable. Oh, and there is one decent line -- one referring to Chulbul as Kung Fu Panday -- but, quite like the time we spend watching this film, it's a throwaway.

On the whole, Dabangg 2 is, without doubt, a blockbuster. It may be routine and may have its flaws but, overall, it entertains wonderfully. Most importantly, it has more than enough masala for the millions of Salman Khan fans. Salman Khan carries the entire film on his shoulders. Opening was extraordinary at most of the places, and at many places in the North, it was so in spite of the cold weather. Opening in small centres of U.P. was, however, not upto the mark.

This film might also end up raking in a much larger box office booty than Dabangg did. But assessed strictly as a pure entertainer designed for instant mass gratification, it isn’t half as successful. But make no mistake. Dabangg 2 is every inch of the way the critic-proof film that it is meant to be. No matter how many holes you might spot in its uncomplicated, wafer-thin narrative edifice, Bollywood’s most bankable megastar's onscreen deeds, at a bit of a stretch, would serve to paper over all of them. Unfortunately, the Dabangg 2 screenplay is devoid of any fresh ideas. I felt like handing out the first half of Dabangg 2 not one but two exclamation marks because it manages what few Bollywood sequels do: keep it same yet make it different enough to hold our interest. And then comes the second half, and things start sliding. The dialoguebaazi loses its grip, and you start to fidget.A sequel to this sequel may be too tempting to pass up for Chulbul and gang. I just hope they don't kill it with same old-ness. "pyaar se nahin, thappad se bhi nahin, boredom se darr lagta hai."

All said and done, the cliches work because of the phenomenon called Salman Khan. Take him away and the film will look as flat as a bottle of soda left too long in the sun. He keeps the fizz going through his boundless energy and makes sure you not only have your full money’s worth but will sign up for more before leaving the theatre. The ending hints at another sequel so stock up on the popcorn.

At the height of all this and in the midst of tremendous hype comes Dabangg 2. Let’s just say, it does not disappoint. Debutant director Arbaaz Khan manages to retain much of the tempo and charm of the original. Much like the Munna Bhai series, it is simply another chapter in the life of our lead character. Everything we loved about the original is very much there, the menacing villain (although I liked him better in Singham), the knuckle headed dialogues. Moments that make you giggle, not because of brilliant writing, simply because Chulbul Pandey delivers them with such childish charm that you can’t help but smile. Then there is the spicy item number (full marks to Kareena, but I still preferred Munni). Maintains the charm and tempo of the original. Fans will not be disappointed.

As prophecied, if the world did come to an end on the day of the film’s release (December 21, 2012), you’d feel like a moron spending the last day on planet earth filling your mind and lowering your IQ with rubbish like this. Prakash Raj as Bachha Bhai is potent. He infuses terror when he comes on screen. Dobriyal too makes the best of the scenes he is given. Apart from Salman, it is also Arbaaz who is having the time of his life. The metamorphoses of Makhan from a shy, timid, guy to one who is game for a fight is a smart twist in the tale. As the director, Arbaaz is in control of things; he shows flashes of his brilliance, which were first evident in DARAAR. DABANGG has now become a brand and I'm sure, like Sylvester Stallone's Rocky Balboa, Pandey will keep coming back to entertain us. All in all, this is one entertainer. Don't go looking for flaws, just enjoy, DABANGG style.

It’s problematic of course that the hero is an openly corrupt police officer, although committed to his own strange convoluted form of social justice, and a complete chauvinist at that. It’s also problematic that the choreography of 'Fevicol' and 'Pandeyji Seeti', although striking, would make even 'Munni' hide in self-conscious shame. Prakash Raj and Deepak Dobriyal, two of our most interesting actors, are completely wasted in lackluster roles.

The sequel of Dabangg is a replica of the original film and brings nothing new. At the end of it, Dabangg 2 belongs to Salman and that’s the only reason you’d want to go for it. It is quite an entertainer, but only for Salman fans. In case we’re alive tomorrow (considering the world ends today), do catch the film. But don’t expect much out of it. While the film lacks in being a comprehensive package, it goes all the way in becoming yet another celebration of ‘brand Salman’. Every other character and element of the film just helps him entertain you for two and a half hours. If you’re looking for meaningful cinema, it is better you give this one a miss.

Dabangg 2 is Salman Khan in the flesh, as raw as he can get and just as corny. The new and improved version is still that lovable Robinhood man in uniform, with several moments of heightened Kung-Fu Pandey-ness thrown in to pepper up the proceedings. ‘Dabangg 2’ could’ve just as easily turned into a hotch potch of Bollywood action and kitsch, much like the recently released ‘Khiladi 786’, but Arbaaz somehow manages to restrain himself and Chulbul, which is by no means an easy task. Having said that, one can only see the cash registers ringing for ‘Dabangg 2’ in the coming weeks. If it beats the record of its first outing, we wouldn’t be surprised. This Kung Fu Pandey at his best. Credit here goes to director Arbaaz and the writers, who take a shallow film like ‘Dabangg 2’ and transform it into a wholesome watch, with pockets of emotional quotient and depth to its characters and relationships.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has little of the awe and shock and wonder that thrillingly accompanied The Lord of the Rings saga. Those films felt new and exciting and unlike anything we’d already seen at the time. Which illustrates exactly what Jackson is up against this time. Still there’s no denying that there’s solid, skilled filmmaking at the heart of this film. But despite its gorgeous sweeping visuals, spectacular special effects, and some terrific action sequences, this first installment in Jackson’s three-film adaptation can’t help feeling long and overblown and stretched beyond limits. I’m going with three out of five for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Don’t set your expectations too high, and you’ll come out satisfied.

One of the best things about The Hobbit is the truly magical locations and imagery that are completely immersive and make you feel as if you are in JRR Tolkien's Middle-earth. Most parts of the score was picked up from the LOTR trilogy, which is something I really didn’t expect. The acting was brilliant and beyond imagination. Martin Freeman acted phenomenally. His character, his bravery, his quirkiness were perfect and top-notch. Sir Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage and the rest of the cast also performed with a lot of elegance and class. No, the film does not choke on its on linearity, but the progression of chases and scrapes with fierce creatures transform it into the best kind of epic-journey film. And the emotional payoff (Shore's music will take you places, believe me) is well worth the tantalising buildup. Various motives have been attached to the decision to make a full-blown trilogy of Tolkien's relatively slim novel. But on watching the film, the artistic integrity behind it is quite evident. He is simply doing what he couldn't with the Fellowship of the Rings as it would debilitate the telling of the entire tale: taking his time with the adventure, and delving more on the culture and mythology that forms the backdrop of the films.

There are truck-loads of actors (not all from mainstream cinema), who perform their bit well, intensifying the plot as they go along. In the second half, the thrill goes thanda in some moments, and you're desperately waiting for the suspense to explode. Of course, with a dozen clues to deconstruct, even good 'ol Sherlock Holmes, Poirot and our desi Agent Vinod would be straining their brains. With a unique concept at hand and an all-new directors' gang, getting the 'act together' is no mean feat. Team of 12 - Take a bow, this stage is all yours.

However, if there’s one thing that’s remarkable about this venture is that each little story (there are 12 clues in 12 cities) is reminiscent of the city against which it is set. Each character is brought to life, be it the lazy cop in Kolkatta who’s never asked for a promotion or the abstract bohemian cop who simply can’t get enough of the case and endlessly discusses the case with his partner. The audience may never see Ms Prachi Pathak in Tejas Joshi’s film, ‘Mystery Woman’ set in Kalyan but we still know that she goes by two sir names, wears spectacles, etc.

Movies like these have a very specific audience. In India the number of people who enjoy blood, gore, bodies being ripped apart etc are small (I hope). You don't feel for the characters.You don't root for them, in spite of them being the underdogs. Romance gets plugged in for no reason and it looks out of place. There is no chemistry between the actors and thus the bonding looks shallow too. The film is unintentionally funny and this very aspect entertains you the most unfortunately! The film is not slow or dull but it is way too immature for you to like it.

The first half of the movie is action packed and, if you leave your brains at home, engaging. The second half looked like a desperate attempt to add drama into the movie. It didn’t really work. The film was made three years ago, and it is quite apparent why it didn’t succeed in finding distributors for so long. Funnily, the antagonists in the film were originally Chinese, and were digitally converted to North Koreans so as to not offend the good folks from China. Sadly none of the alterations fail to offend the audience’s intelligence. It would probably have worked had the film been a straight up cheese and ham entertainer like The Expendables 2, with Nicholas Cage in the lead.

These movies come under a category called -- SO-bad-I-want-to-be-The-Punisher. Khiladi 786 is one such movie. This is no Rowdy Rathore, folks, this is just a gimmick. True, they did infuse it with a lot of other delightful innuendos, and some reference to comic books, but at the same time, ruined with unclever lines and expectant looks. That reminds me, there must be a story. Himesh Bhai plays a wedding organiser’s son, who is no good with fixing matches, so his father kicks him out. To redeem his image, he tries to get a don’s daughter get together with a fake cop. The dialogue writer probably got paid per word, so when the cheques stopped coming in, he decided to repeat himself. Most similar movies give the hero a stock phrase or “takia kalaam” for audience recall. This one has almost half a dozen. We keep hearing the same lines being repeated over and over again. Finally when you hear Akshay mention for the 786th time that there are three things in the world you can’t see – Bhooton ka sansaar (ghost town), sachche wala pyar (true love), Bahattar paaji ka raftaar (Bahattar’s speed) – you know you just can’t see this anymore. Incidentally, one character played by Sanjay Mishra thinks he looks like Amol Palekar. And bursts into Aanewala pal jaanewala hai from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Gol Maal. Wondering if Mishra got the wrong Gol Maal. And did he mean Ajay Devgn instead of Amol Palekar? Khiladi 786 is an oddball of a dhamaka that blends slapstick with stunts. It is farcical fun from first frame to the last. Go, have a blast.

The anything-goes movie is packed with so many random characters and even more random jokes that moments of inspired humour emerge out of the hodgepodge. Bahattar Singh, his father (Raj Babbar) and uncle (Mukesh Rishi) pretend to be policemen to impress the other side, as do Indu’s brother TTT (Mithun Chakraborty) and his hoods. A police inspector who is locked away for threatening to spill the beans loudly protests his treatment, saying he will “complain to Kejriwal”. The rest of the time, much of Bunty Rathore’s dialogue depends on rhyming words for laughs (bayko, the Marathi word for wife, is matched with psycho; Sikh with seekh kebab). It’s hardly enough to sustain the running length of 2 hours and 20 minutes, but you might just find yourself occasionally sniggering without meaning to.

‘Khiladi 786’ ticks all the prerequisites for a formulaic, Bollywood masala movie, yet it doesn’t quite pack a punch.And that’s probably because the industry is already populated with many such uniformed heroes, and the audience don’t have the appetite for any more. From manic comic situation that rely on buffoonery, there’s very little tact or intelligence that Ashish deploys to tell the story.The story written by Himmesh Reshammiya, who initially branched out from music direction to acting, is complicated and unoriginal. He even writes himself a part, a supporting one thankfully, but one that he overplays to shocking levels. Understandable that ‘Khiladi 786’ is trying to play to the galleries, but unfortunately it tries way too hard. And, considering there’ve been far too many perky cops in the past, this “cop” just doesn’t make the cut.

The 3D animation is on par with the best in the business. The laughs come, though not thick and fast, and while some gags don't really get the desired 'zing', it is the spirited acting by Sandler and Samberg and the effortlessly fluid animation that sees this film rise above the predictable script. Genndy, the film's director and the name behind cartoons like Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack makes a confident feature debut with this film and guns for nostalgia (and a pining for the old-fashioned life). Hotel Transylvania is a feel-good family flick that succeeds in keeping the kids entertained. Note: You may not like this movie if you do not like kiddie animation films.

But forget us, adults pampered by Pixar movies and European cartoons: Will Hotel Transylvania amuse children? I (gulp) have quite enjoyed Adam Sandler's early films. And this one, animated in 3D and centred on ghoulies and things that go bump in the night, is a throwback to that sort of light-headed but entertaining fare. More significantly, the film, fart jokes and all, is unpretentious. If you are disgusted already, know that the film is very predictable to boot. Still, it has its charms, even for someone who holds Sandler in contempt. Tartakovsky, who is renowned for his ground-breaking work in two dimensions on Cartoon Network's Dexter's Laboratory, embellishes the overall product with his exciting character designs and zany cartoon motions filling charm and humour in the gaps of the script.The writing of Hotel Transylvania doesn't quite do to classic horror cliches what Shrek did with fairytale ones, but it's still an amusing, unpretentious film.

Amidst all the confusion, there are many light-hearted moments that will have you in splits, but it doesn’t last too long if you don’t belong to that TG. Sorry Mommies and Daddies, you’ll have to sit through this while your kids laugh their hearts out at this relatively immature, classic love story. One thing to look out for however, is the 3D animation. A certain bonding scene between Dracula and Jonathan particularly took my breath away. I shall refrain from describing parts of the scene, since they may end up being spoilers for y’all. Besides, you will see two immensely talented actors, Adam Sandler and Kevin James coming together for this film again, in a different role though. Watch this film for the sweet love story, the endearing father-daughter relationship, and all the monsters you’ve been reading about, in their animated avatars.

While the short duration, makes the film, a pleasant watch; lack of back-stories, makes it a tad abrupt in parts. There are no dull moments in the film but nothing uniquely memorable either, except for the 'love potion track' which makes a late entry in the film. While initial portions of the film and dialogues fail to evoke laughter, it's the climax which sort of makes up for the loss. It is delightful and unpredictable. If it wasn't for the half-baked characters, the film wouldn't be as forgetful. 10ml love is a short, lighthearted film. It's a decent watch, provided you don't expect great humour.

The climax, arguably the most memorable part of the play, here ends up very poorly indeed. 'Tis a shame the film's makers decided, bizarrely, to stop adapting. And yet, despite the cardinal sin of cocking up that most glorious of climaxes, 10 ml Love has enough to offer for a good time. It isn't a well-shot, crisply edited, intelligently staged piece of cinema, but is warmly enough made to allow the legendary play to shine through. Though Aamir has portrayed the role of a cop earlier, he brings something new to the table with his spellbinding performance in TALAASH. The earnestness and authenticity with which he enacts his character cannot be expressed in a few sentences. That would be doing gross injustice to the actor's abilities, frankly. He holds the camera in every frame and charges assertively through the film, making you believe in Inspector Shekhawat's journey in entirety. It's a standout piece of acting, unquestionably. That Aamir is the best actor of his generation comes to the fore yet again! On the whole, TALAASH is an outstanding film. A taut psychological thriller that keeps you guessing till the end, it leaves you spellbound, leaves you mesmerized, leaves you with an exclamation, 'Wow!'. The greatest accomplishment of this suspense drama is the cast -- both immediate and extended. I cannot think of a greater compliment except no actor could have (or should have) done the roles except the ones who did. In Talaash, Kagti weaves a complex web, and she colours it with the mood and the atmosphere she and her collaborators create. Talaash has the feel of a noir film -- a fine achievement for a Bollywood product, where the crisp cinematography by K U Mohanan and the haunting background score by Ram Sampath keeps us on the edge. Towards the end of the film, there is a big revelation. Obviously I am not going to spill the beans here. But at this point Kagti and Akhtar's script starts to falter. In anticipating that this revelation may confuse some sections of the audience, the film then starts to explain more than we need to be told, giving us hints, underlying situations. Despite that one big flaw, Talaash satisfied me. But I wanted more.

The parallel subplots of Shekhawat's trauma as a bereaved father and a cop obsessed about cracking his case set up the backbone of the story. Aamir strikes a balance between the two tracks with trademark subtlety, the way only he can. Kareena Kapoor's Rosie is underplayed till a point. Although she seems ill at ease with the mannerism of a sex worker, Kareena adds the essential glam quotient. Say, can ghosts smell flowers? One scene in Talaash sure seems to suggest as much.

There’s a feeling of love, pain, suffering and fatal attraction that connects everyone in an invisible chain. The beauty is that you feel a certain sense of empathy towards all of it. Reema Kagti’s work is impressive, it’s hard to tell that it’s come from a relatively new director. Although, one may find a few loopholes, you are reminded of the purpose behind the ‘perfect crime’ or the reason why a person does what he/she does. In the end, it’s all about seeking redemption, the procedure varies for every human being (those living and those unsure of their place of belonging). Old-school suspense flick, with a fairly modern treatment.

Talaash is less about the mystery and more about the not-so-obvious factors – like coming to terms with the loss of a loved one, overcoming greed and fantasy, and beating the mind at its games, for instance. Like the one where Suri and his wife Roshni (Rani Mukerji, who really should stop slathering pancake on those freckles; she looks lovely here) go to a mindless Ajay Devgn entertainer – a world far, far removed from that of Talaash – to forget their troubles at home, only to find that life doesn’t always work they way you want it to. Suri, instead of watching the movie, amuses himself by watching his wife laugh, but when they exit the theatre, they run into a living-breathing reminder of the source of their unhappiness. (And that goes back, again, to an accident that occurred in water.) Kagti sticks to an even tone most of the time, rarely turning up the volume except in the emotionally loaded songs, so the dramatic showpieces, when they occur, are a punch in the gut. The quieter moments are equally powerful, like the lingering nighttime scene between Suri and the prostitute Rosie (Kareena Kapoor), filled as much with silence as dialogue.

In Life Of Pi, it's the relationship between a tiger and a boy and how they learn to get along that is heartwarming. The different ways the stranded duo resort to to survive shows that Lee has an eye for detail. Rest of the job has been ably handled by the digital effects department. The whale, the dolphins, the flying fish and the glowing jelly fish are magical and add to the experience.However, at 128 minutes, the film is a tad lengthy. Tighter editing would have ensured that it doesn't drag in parts. The 3D doesn't work too well and is nothing but an unnecessary distraction. Life of Pi isn’t merely another 3D extravaganza designed to deliver bushels of cheap thrills. There is infinitely more to it. It is a hauntingly attractive film that, like the fine book it is based on, dwells upon questions of human existence and man’s tangled relationship with God, Nature and beasts of the animal kingdom in a way that few potential blockbusters ever do, with ease and simplicity. Life of Pi achieves a quality that is rare for a 3D film – while the consistently awesome technical wizardry adds great beauty and depth to this universe it is never allowed to overshadow the substance of the narrative. Grab a piece of this Pi. It is a must watch. In terms of both the scale of its ambition and the exquisite perfection of its execution, Life of Pi is pure magic.

The movie invites you to believe in all kinds of marvelous things, but it also may cause you to doubt what you see with your own eyes - or even to wonder if, in the end, you have seen anything at all.The problem, as I have suggested, is that the narrative frame that surrounds these lovely pictures complicates and undermines them. The novelist and the older Pi are eager to impose interpretations on the tale of the boy and the beast, but also committed to keeping those interpretations as vague and general as possible. And also, more disturbingly, to repress the darker implications of the story, as if the presence of cruelty and senseless death might be too much for anyone to handle.

Despite such a spectacular visual experience and such brilliant storytelling, Life of Pi is still at 3.5 not 4 stars. And there is only one reason to that. A story of this magnitude, a story with so much depth, required far more than a 125 min screen adaptation. No matter how hard you try, you cannot capture the depth of an epic story like that in 2 hours. It is going to lack depth. Pi is going to feel underdeveloped as a character. Pi’s childhood in itself is a 2 hour film. His 227 days as a cast away should be as long as aLord Of The Rings Triology. But with all due respect, if Life of Pi was to be made into a film, it couldn’t have been better than this. Kudos Ang Lee, I sense another Academy Nomination here. Visually spectacular, Ang Lee brings us a rich & inspirational offering.

Suraj Sharma has the daunting job of interacting with a screen while on the shoot, and the debut actor is convincing enough throughout. Tabu and Hussain have small, insignificant roles without much to stand out with, and Irrfan Khan is only as good as the character’s faux-profound pallor. The dialogues in English sound awfully contrived. Finally, the only thought pronounced in the film, which has a visceral impact on the viewer is: Will tiger ever love man? The digitally-created star of Lee’s film does not thankfully give away a definite answer.

Breaking Dawn - Part 2, fifth and final installment in the cheesy but immensely popular Twilight movie franchise, is a film unlikely to appeal to anyone but hardcore fans who’ve been consistently forgiving of its many shortcomings. I’m going with a generous two out of five for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. For anyone who doesn’t worship the franchise, this is drivel. Just be glad this is the last film!

Still, it's not the worst Twilight movie in the series. That distinction is still safe with the awfully mawkish and excruciatingly long, New Moon. After a photogenic beginning and lackluster middle, Breaking Dawn redeems itself at the fag end with a gruesome but emphatic imagery of Bella in labour, setting a precarious tone for the concluding chapter of the franchise. Except that nearly two hours are wasted in establishing very little, underscoring the needless yet exploitative exercise of splitting a volume into two.

Despite all those fierce confrontations and tribal divisions, exhaustively rehearsed and mythologised, nobody's really a bad guy and nothing's really at stake. Well, there's a satisfaction in seeing the story finally rounded off here, although there are rumours of more in store and the Twilight myth has in any case already been resolved, in giving birth to the non-abstinence porn of EL James's Fifty Shades of Grey, originally a fan-fiction coupling of Bella and Edward. Breaking Dawn has moments of wit, but did the Twilight saga have to be so bland? Catherine Hardwicke's first film was a brilliant standalone teen romance, but its saga robes came to hang very, very heavily.

A hit with it’s fanbase ‘cuz Twihards relate & connect to the story ( with it’s some real, some unreal dilemmas). Once again, this film is strictly for all those who’ve followed the series, and is not critique-worthy, for obvious reasons. Personal opinion, Jacob Black – the 108.9 degree Fahrenheit hot man-wolf makes my heart flutter, much more than the usual girl fantasy-boy, Edward Cullen. And the former has proven himself to be a marvel. However, I would love to see Robert Pattinson outside of the series more often, his debut as Cedric Diggory was perhaps the highlight for him since he stole many hearts despite the cuteness that Daniel Radcliffe came with in the Harry Potter series. Hope to see much more interesting work by everyone associated with the film. After all, it’s not goodbye when something is to live on till eternity.

Verdict: Twihards eat your heart out! An epic finale to an eternal love story you’ll love forever.

Despite the slow start Mr. Condon closes the series in fine, smooth style. He gives fans all the lovely flowers, conditioned hair and lightly erotic, dreamy kisses they deserve. Just as smartly he also shakes the series up with an unexpectedly fierce, entertaining battle that finds the Cullens, flanked by their wolf friends and various vampire allies, facing down the Volturi. Set on a snowy field, this whirlwind of clashing fangs and flying fur rouses Bella to action. It also injects the movie with an invigorating energy that the movies have rarely sustained since the first “Twilight,” when Catherine Hardwicke, a messy but spirited director, introduced Bella and Edward. It turns out that there’s something to be said about watching these two lovebirds tap into their inner monsters. It’s bloody good fun while it lasts.

The truth is that whether you agree with, or aren't a fan of Chopra's brand of love stories, he conveys them with complete conviction. Chopra and his leading man lend Jab Tak Hai Jaan an indelible charm. It's that charm, coupled with the filmmaker's trademark freshness, passion, and tenderness, that still keeps you invested in these characters and their star-crossed romance.I'm going with three out of five for the late Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Despite its many script problems, it's a consistently watchable film that oozes with feeling and real emotion. A fitting swan song.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN is not your typical love story. It has the old-world charm written all over it, with twists and turns plenty. It would be a disservice if one were to reveal the journey of the three principal characters -- Samar, Meera and Akira -- since the plot changes from conventional to unconventional in its second hour. JAB TAK HAI JAAN is attention-grabbing from inception till conclusion. The drama only soars higher and the complex love story gets more and more gripping as the conflict between the characters come to the fore. Mind you, JAB TAK HAI JAAN is not the usual 'love triangle', with two women fighting for the same guy. Nor can you compare it with any Yash Chopra film of yore either. On the whole, JAB TAK HAI JAAN resonates an oft-repeated fact: Love stories will come and go. But no one will make them like Yash Chopra. Just don't miss this heartwarming love story!

In any case, you don't go to a Yash Chopra movie to delve into realism or the messiness of relationships. You go to partake in a fantasy of swooning, idealised love - and Jab Tak Hai Jaan delivers plenty of that.This film has all the elements you would want in a Yash Chopra film - gorgeously shot locations in the UK and Kashmir, lavish songs and three inherently noble lead characters who struggle gallantly against their individual obligations.But what Jab Tak Hai Jaan does not have is a coherent plot.Jab Tak Hai Jaan is too tangled to transport you. At almost 180 minutes, it also requires enormous patience. But I recommend that you see it. JTHJ is so much more than its flawless visual appeal. AR Rahman’s music and background score adds a touch of magic to the proceedings. It complements the actors’ performances perfectly. Shah Rukh Khan makes a stunning entry, he owns the screen space and he weaves his charisma into a net that holds JTHJ together. Especially effective are his scenes as the reserved army officer. Katrina Kaif is just a thing of beauty. That she looks stunning is a given, but she manages to give one of her career’s finest performances as Meera. Her underplay is the perfect contrast to Anushka’s lively and bubbly act. Anushka lightens JTHJ with energy, while Katrina anchors it with firm emotions.

Cut to direction. Only somebody like Yash Chopra could have made those mesmerising locales of Pehalgam and Ladakh come alive on celluloid. London, on the other hand, is beautiful – be it in winter, rain or summer. The film doesn’t really have the sarees flying slo-mo in the air, but what it has is sheer, pristine beauty. However, the film appears a tad too long; at almost three hours, the ‘impatient, newer generation’ might have to stretch themselves a bit. In case you still haven’t, go watch ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. You can thank the Kings of Romance once you’re done with the film… nahi bhoolenge hum, jab tak hai jaan!

Ajay Devgn convincingly plays son-of-the-soil with power, playfulness and colorful pagdis in every scene. He switches from comedy, action and romance flippantly, impressing with funny lines, gimmicks atop a ghodi (Jassi again) and tons of PJJs (poor-Punju-jokes). . This is a mass-entertainer, strung together with a series of Santa-Banta jokes, spiked solidly with macho sardaarisms. Like Jassi says, “Kabhi toh hasliya karo”, this one makes you laugh – in parts!

Son of Sardaar is the remake of a Telugu film Maryada Ramanna by S.S. Rajamouli but is a lot different from it too. Apart from that it takes a lot of inspiration Rohit Shetty's popular films starring Ajay Devgn. But this film lacks the punch that Shetty manages each time. I am sure it's tough to shoot scenes with human beings and cars flying and director Ashvini Dhir gets all that right but what's tougher is to club all the larger than life heroism with a good script which Dhir just doesn't get. Son of Sardaar has a lot for the masses but it lacks a good story. With all the other ingredients in place it feels like Son of Sardaar is a good opportunity wasted.

Some sequences are hilarious and evoke a lot of laughter. On the other hand, there are some sequences which appear stretched. Also, at quite a few places, either logic is given the go-by to further the drama in a particular direction or the characters are made to behave in a particular fashion to arrive at the desired conclusion. This comes in the way of the complete enjoyment of the drama by the audience. On the whole, Son Of Sardaar is an entertaining fare and a good festive watch. Its performance in circuits like U.P., East Punjab, Bihar, Rajasthan, C.P. Berar and C.I. will be better than in the other circuits.

A remake of the Telugu hit Maryaada Ramanna directed by SS Rajamouli, who himself whacked the premise from a 1920s Buster Keaton hit, Son of Sardaar is only sporadically entertaining, and peddles the same tired stereotypes of Punjab and Sikhs. A cameo by Salman Khan, sadly, doesn't make up for the film's many flaws. I'm going with a generous two out of five for director Ashwni Dhir's Son of Sardaar. Even if you're a fan of those loud 80s-style entertainers, this one demands a lot out of you.

Son of Sardaar’ comes in as an entertaining treat. The multi-starrer action cum rom-com is quite a predictable story, but does unfold its share of subtle surprises. SOS is a typical masala entertainer. It’s got all the formula of an action-packed flick. Ashwani Dhir’s direction is quite commendable, considering the fact that the film follows a traditional formula. The action sequences are a completely fantasy. Even Rajinikanth might seek certain tips to incorporate such hard-to-believe action sequences in his next! Nonetheless, the film is meant to be such. Certain portions are a bit of a drag, but the comic sequences will make up for the monotony. The cast has put up a good show. Overall, SOS is worth a watch, a complete family entertainer!

It’s a no brainer to guess what conclusion can one expect of this typical churn-off-the-mill-looking entertainer. But Son Of Sardaar has its moments mainly because of the characters involved who give their best to make this ordinary tale look impressive. Ajay Devgn portrays the vulnerable and ready to fight-if-instigated Sardaar really well. Sanjay Dutt’s comic timing and his personality stay with you even hours after you leave the theatre. Sonakshi Sinha is impressive and looks an authentic Panjabi mundi. A special mention here for Juhi Chawla, Mukul Dev and Vindu Dara Singh who hold your attention with their antics. Sajid Wajid’s music is melodious, but far from impressive.

Devgn, Dutt and Sinha, the lead actors, are uninspired and go through the film like a rigmarole—mouthing loud dialogues like robots in a stale Punjabi scheme of things. Son of Sardaar is the worst Hindi cinema has portrayed Punjabiyat.

The Punjabiyat shown in the film is replete with cliches, the dialogues being banal and the Sikh aspect used to the hilt. Every second sentence in the film is a definition on Sardar. The actors do not speak a single dialogue without saying Oye Pappe. Ajay Devgn is sprightly almost throughout the film, much to annoyance at times. Sanjay Dutt portrays his part well and his portions with Ajay Devgn make for some enjoyable gags. Son of Sardaar gets mired by cliches and formulas. In a bid to make for a mass entertainer it ends up being banal and mundane. Those who appreciate over the top, loud and raucous gags may enjoy this one too.
