Angry Video Game Nerd Movie Well On Its Way

Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie is an upcoming independent comedy film based on the Cinemassacre Productions web series The Angry Video Game Nerd created by and starring James Rolfe. Filming for the movie started April 1, 2012 and wrapped on May 11, 2012 in California and additional scenes were filmed later on the East coast. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2013 and Rolfe anticipates that the film's release will be through touring film festivals, before being released on DVD.

A special screening of the trailer along with behind the scenes footage from the film premiered on November 9 at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, which is the same theatre where The Blob (1958) was filmed. You can find the official trailer for the movie below. Enjoy!

Carlito's Way Review

Carlito's Way is a 1993 crime film directed by Brian De Palma and based on the novels "Carlito's Way" and "After Hours" by Judge Edwin Torres. The film stars Al Pacino as gangster Carlito Brigante and Sean Penn as his sleazy lawyer and best friend, David Kleinfeld. It is a relatively strong gangster film that is sometimes under-looked because of how it received mixed responses from critics after its initial release. The story just catches you right off the bat and doesn't release you until the credits start to roll. It's an engaging flick that had a very underrated and magnificent script that was written by the talented screenwriter, David Koepp.

While it's true that Carlito's Way may not be the strongest gangster film out there, it is still a very solid one that deserves recognition for what its worth. It's an extremely honest and captivating film that gives moviegoers a chance to escape from their normal everyday lives for a couple of hours. De Palma did an incredible job at making a movie that is very easy to enjoy by everyone.

The film is carried by notably strong performances by Al Pacino and Sean Penn. Pacino is strong and charismatic as he is in just about every one of his movies, but it was Penn who won me over in this one. His performance is so superb and effective. His character comes across as repulsive and very dislikeable, but yet it's impossible to look away from him. It is truly great acting from Penn who provided a very Oscar worthy performance. Overall, Carlito's Way is a gangster flick that is enjoyable to watch and just seems to be getting better with age.

Dog Day Afternoon Review

Dog Day Afternoon is a powerful 1975 crime drama film directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Al Pacino in the leading role as Sonny Wortzik. The film is inspired by P.F. Kluge's Life article "The Boys in the Bank", which tells the story of the robbery of a Brooklyn bank by John Wojtowicz and Salvatore Naturile on August 22, 1972. It went on to receive much critical acclaim and garnered six Academy Academy Award nominations as well as seven Golden Globe nominations.

One of the most amazing aspects of this film is the mesmerizing performance by Al Pacino. In my opinion it is one of the greatest acting performances in film history. It's just incredible how great and memorable it really is. You can tell that director Sidney Lumet let Pacino run wild with the character and had no boundaries for him at all. Another very excellent performance in the film is John Cazale as Salvatore Naturile, Sonny's partner in the robbery. He has almost a childlike innocence throughout and provides much comic relief in what is one of the many memorable roles in the film.

A lot of credit needs to go to Sidney Lumet for making this exceptional film. You could easily go on and on about how wonderful it is in so many ways. Whether you want to talk about the superb acting by the entire cast, the masterful cinematography and directing, or the transcendent script that is very viewer engaging. Dog Day Afternoon is a classic movie that every film lover needs to see at least once in their life.

Zulu Review

Zulu is a 1964 historical war film depicting the Battle of Rorke's Drift between the British Army and the Zulus during the Anglo-Zulu War. The battle was fought between approximately 4,000 Zulu warriors against 150 British and colonial troops. The film was directed by Cy Endfield and stars Stanley Baker, Jack Hawkins and Michael Caine in addition to being narrated by Richard Burton. It is an amazing film and one of my personal favorite war films of all-time.

This is just simply an incredible film that will always live on in history as an undisputed masterpiece. It's visually mesmerizing and features some of the most top-notch cinematography and directing in film history as far as I'm concerned. It is nearly impossible to look away during the film's 139 minute run-time. The landscapes are beautiful, the settings are isolated, and the fighting is shown in realistic bloody detail. It's one of the most captivating films of all time.

It's difficult to write a review for this masterful film and have no mention of the astonishing musical score by the talented English composer John Barry. It's both majestic and menacing as it helps to set the tone of the battle scenes so well. There are very few films out there as well-balanced and exciting as Zulu is. It truly is an astounding film.

The Brink's Job Review

The Brink's Job is a 1978 crime-comedy film directed by William Friedkin and starring Peter Falk and Peter Boyle. The film is based on the book Big Stick-Up at Brinks written by Noel Behn and the real-life Great Brink's Robbery which took place in Boston, Massachusetts in 1950. While the film features some very strong performances by its entire cast, as well as some very nice direction by Friedkin, it doesn't seem to really be that memorable of a movie and fails to deliver on some very important levels.

Not that this is a bad film by any means, but it just isn't as strong as other heist or caper movies out there. One thing that bothered me the most about it was the script. The pacing didn't seem to be very good and everything just seemed stretched. It was a simple caper story that may have worked better if it wasn't so warm and light hearted. I think that the script could have definitely used some rework before filming began. Some things just didn't seem to fit, and some things seemed to be missing.

All in all, The Brink's Job is a film that left me with mixed reactions. It was alright, but I feel like it could have been great. Especially with the amount of talent that was involved with it. The film is definitely worth a watch to fans of heist films, but they should just keep in mind that this one is just a little bit different. I think that the greatest feature that the film has to offer is the stylish and sublime performance by Peter Falk. He gives us a very unique portrayal of a thief that would have been nearly impossible to match by any other actor.

Pan's Labyrinth Review

Pan's Labyrinth is one of the most beautiful and artistically creative movies that I have ever seen. Director Guillermo del Toro did a wonderful job at creating a truly captivating film that mixes fantasy with reality in a way that has never before been seen. The art direction is stunning, the music is astounding, and the characters are engaging and interesting. The film will definitely go down as del Toro's masterpiece and is sure to be remembered for many years to come.

There are many aspects of this film that are worthy of praise and appreciation. I feel that the cinematography by Guillermo Navarro is one of the most important facets. He really helped to create a beautiful atmosphere of wonder and fantasy by magnificently orchestrating his shots and using very good composition. It's wonderful to know that Navarro went on to win a much deserved Academy Award for Best Achievement in Cinematography for his work on the film, as well as garnering many more accolades along the way.

A lot of credit needs to be given to Guillermo del Toro. He had a truly amazing story that he wanted to tell and he executed it marvelously on film. Pan's Labyrinth is without a doubt one of the best foreign films that I have ever seen and it is one that will not soon be forgotten. I would recommend this film to just about anyone who is looking for a stunning story with stunning visuals. It is definitely one that should not be missed.

Men In Black 3 may not have been the most necessary sequel to have been made, but it was a fun and exciting one nonetheless. The film features a fine mix of hilarious moments, great special effects and surprisingly strong performances by the entire cast. The most notable being Josh Brolin, who did a marvelous job at portraying the young Agent K and mimicking the actions of Tommy Lee Jones. It gives you a really good insight of the kind of versatility that he has as an actor.

A lot of credit needs to be given to director Barry Sonnenfeld for getting this movie made. He did a tremendous job at resurrecting this franchise, which appeared all but dead after the second installment released nearly ten years ago. And while it may not go down as one of the best movies of the summer, it is still a solid film that is very easy to enjoy. It's kind of like the perfect mindless summer blockbuster flick. You don't have to think about anything too hard, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.

All in all, Men In Black 3 is harmless, fun, and entertaining. It will most likely be enjoyed by fans of the MIB franchise and has a chance to go down as the best film in the series. It may have been a little mindless at some times and it took a little bit of time to get off the ground, but once it did, it was a non-stop thrill-ride which featured a surprising kind of twist ending that was both somber and unexpected. I would have no problem recommending it to anyone who is looking for some first rate action comedy fun.

TV Show Review: Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is probably one of the funniest and most highly praised animated shows to ever show on Cartoon Network. The show features some of the most beautiful art design and superb flash animation that is very attention grabbing and eye pleasing. The plot of the show centers around the adventures of an eight year old boy named Mac and his imaginary friend Bloo, who is forced to move into a foster home after Mac's mom says that he has been outgrown by Mac.

The entire show is full of some very interesting characters that are all quite easy to like. There are many different imaginary friends that are all uniquely designed and sometimes unusual and bizarre. I think that this is one of the few cartoons aimed towards children that can easily be enjoyed by both kids and adults alike. It is both clever and smart in addition to being absurd and silly.

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends lasted a solid six seasons lasting from 2004-2009. It went on to win a whopping seven Emmy Awards during its run and is in my opinion one of the last great animated shows that appeared on Cartoon Network before the network took a dive. It is a show that I would strongly suggest to pretty much anyone who enjoys animation, it is just a shame that we don't get re-runs of it on anymore. Fortunately, seasons 1 & 2 were released on DVD in 2007.

TV Show Review: The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy

The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy is one of the most hilarious cartoon series ever created that can easily be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. The show follows the adventures of Billy and Mandy as they find many different ways to exploit the Grim Reaper, who was forced into being their best friend. The show lasted a strong seven seasons on Cartoon Network from 2001-2007.

Some may argue that having a kids cartoon centered around the Grim Reaper may be a bit too dark and not very suitable for children, but its all in good fun. Grim actually turns out to be one of the funniest and most likable characters on the show. Sometimes we even sympathize with him because of what both Billy and Mandy put him through. The show definitely thrives because of its unique and funny cast of characters and there are many to be found, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy features many supporting characters that are all just as quirky and wacky as the next one.

It was definitely one of the best animated shows on TV during its time and its a shame that there are no re-runs of it on anymore. Even so, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy will live on in my heart as one of my favorite cartoons ever. It was so creative and funny that it made it tough not to love. Definitely one of Cartoon Networks best!

TV Show Review: The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack is without a doubt one of the best animated television series ever created. Although it only lasted a mere three seasons, it was one of the funniest shows on TV during that time. The show follows the misadventures of a young boy named Flapjack, who was raised inside a talking whale named Bubbie, and Captain K'nuckles as they set sail in search of the magical Candied Island, filled with lollipop trees and lemonade seas.

The show is wonderful for both kids and adults alike. It is funny, original, random and sometimes dark.and creepy. The characters are all so unique and interesting that it is nearly impossible not to fall in love with them. Another very unique aspect to this show is its beautiful animation. It's amazing how eye popping the characters look with the combination of the gloomy and dingy backgrounds. It helps to give the show a nice suitable feel to it that is very pleasing to look at.

It's a shame that Cartoon Network cut ties with the show after its third season, because the quality of animation on television nowadays has not been very good and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack was one of the few shows that we could count on for pure excellence. If you have not seen this show, I strongly suggest checking it out if you ever get the chance. On April 20, 2012, the series returned to Cartoon Network to show re-runs on the revived block, Cartoon Planet.

TV Show Review: Home Movies

Home Movies may be one of the best animated television series that went underrated and unrecognized by many during its original network run, first on UPN and then on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The show is about the life of an aspiring eight-year-old filmmaker named Brendon Small, who with the help of his friends Jason and Melissa as actors, manage to direct over a thousand homemade movies with his camcorder.

Although I didn't start watching the show until its fourth and final season in 2004, I immediately fell in love with it. The characters are all refreshingly original and easy to fall in love with. They provide the show with some very unique and quirky humor that is unlike any other show that I have ever seen. The episode plots are engaging and fun, usually featuring Brendan, Jason and Melissa in their day-to-day misadventures, while showcasing Brendan creating shoestring-budget home movies. It's amazing how funny this show can be sometimes, because it mostly relies on dialogue-driven comedy.

While not too many people know about this amazing show, it is one that I try to suggest to as many people as possible. It's different, yes, but it is also wonderful and one of the best animated shows that I have honestly ever seen. If you have never seen it before or perhaps never gave it much of a chance, watch a couple of episodes and it is very likely that you will fall in love with it as I did.

Movies To Look Forward To In June

The month of May proved to be a relatively strong month for movies with the highly anticipated superhero film The Avengers being the most impressive of the bunch which also included releases such as Men In Black 3, Dark Shadows and The Dictator. It appears that June will most likely not be able to match the month of May, but will also feature some films that have been highly anticipated as well. We will have Pixar's newest film, Brave coming out on the 22nd and Ridley Scott's newest sci-fi film, Prometheus due out on the 8th. Machete Sequel Coming Soon

A sequel to the 2010 action film Machete starring Danny Trejo is well on its way towards starting production after getting notable actors Mel Gibson, Demián Bichir and Amber Heard all to sign on to star in the highly anticipated sequel. The film which is expected to release sometime in 2013 will be titled Machete Kills and will feature Robert Rodriguez back in the directing chair. The film has been rumored to start filming as early as later on this month and just recently released its first poster this past week. This is one sequel that I am looking forward too quite a bit and it will be interesting to see how it all turns out. One thing is for sure, it will feature a lot of hack-and-slash fun.

A sequel to the popular 2005 crime thriller Sin City is well on its way towards becoming a reality. The sequel, which will be titled Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was recently given a release date of October 4, 2013 and will be released in 3D. Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller will once again be sharing directing duties on the film as well as co-writing it with Academy Award winning screenwriter William Monahan. Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba have been the first two actors confirmed to return and reprise their roles, although many from the original cast are expected to return as well. Rodriguez has stated that filming would start this summer and the film's first poster was just recently released this past week which you can find below.

It appears that a sequel to the popular 2010 film Kick-Ass is going to happen, but this time with a new director. It has been reported that Jeff Wadlow director of Cry Wolf and Never Back Down has been selected by original director Matthew Vaughn to helm the upcoming project, which is set to start filming later this year. Although Vaughn had expressed interest in doing a sequel himself since the original release of the film in 2010, he was unable to take on directing duties for this film because of his commitment to direct the upcoming X-Men: First Class sequel. However, he still plans to co-write and produce the sequel which is aiming for a May 2013 release date. Aaron Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are all expected to return and reprise their roles.

Gangster Squad Looks Impressive

Gangster Squad, the upcoming crime drama film by director Ruben Fleischer and based off of the book Tales from the Gangster Squad by Paul Lieberman looks to impress audiences with its superb cast and thrilling action sequences. The film is described as a chronicle of the Los Angeles Police Department's fight to keep East Coast Mafia out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s. It features a star-studded cast which includes Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Emma Stone and Sean Penn as the notorious gangster Mickey Cohen. A trailer for the film was released on May 9th, 2012 and the one thing that stood out to me the most in it was Sean Penn. It looks like he is going to provide one very powerful performance in portraying Cohen that is sure to please audiences and give them an esteemed look at one of the most corrupt gangsters ever. The film is set to hit theaters this fall with a release date of September 7th.

Dark Shadows Review

The latest film from Tim Burton, Dark Shadows fails to live up to any high expectations that it had and instead turns out to be an overall underwhelming flick which struggles to find its rhythm throughout its 113 minute runtime. That is not to say that it is a bad movie, because it is far from horrible, but it seems that we could have expected a far better movie from the mastermind director Tim Burton.

One of the biggest problems that the film has is that it doesn't really seem to know what kind of movie it really is. Although there were plenty of moments throughout that drew laughs from the crowd, there were also many moments where the crowd wasn't really sure if they were supposed to be laughing or not. I think that made it awkward for many of the people in the theater that I was in. It's no doubt that it was a strange film, but despite its flaws it still seemed to keep you entertained. Carried by notable strong performances by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter and Jackie Earle Haley the film was driven by its fun and wacky characters that helped make up for its somewhat predictable and sometimes boring plot. It should also be mentioned that the great musician Alice Cooper makes a small, but awesome appearance in the film, in what turned out to be my favorite part of the entire movie.

While Dark Shadows will likely end up being one of the most forgettable Tim Burton flicks, it is still one that should definitely be worth a watch to the die-hards out there. After all, it features Johnny Depp as a vampire, and who didn't think that sounded cool when they first heard it? It was also nice to hear the musical score by long-time Burton collaborator, Danny Elfman who always does a fine job at setting the mood with great music in Tim Burton's films. All in all though, the film can be summed up with one word: Mediocre. It likely won't leave you thinking too much about it afterwards and it will likely become a film that is all but forgotten in a few months.

Inception Review

There are few films out there as visually stunning as Christopher Nolan's Inception. It is one of the best action thriller films that has ever been made and will have people talking about it for years to come. What Nolan was able to do with Inception was create a film that can easily be enjoyed by just about everyone, because the movie itself has a little bit of everything in it. Whether its action, thrills, adventure or heist. It's groundbreaking in many ways. It features some very breathtaking cinematography by the great Wally Pfister as well as having some spectacular special effects. It also has a star-studded cast which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Pete Postlethwaite and Michael Caine. There are seven separate Oscar-nominated actors right there. That is just simply amazing.

In addition to featuring an amazing cast, great cinematography and special effects, Inception also features one awesome score by Hans Zimmer. The music is really able to match the characters feelings very well throughout the film and Zimmer received a much deserved Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score at the 83rd Academy Awards. Another amazing feat that Inception pulled off was that it was filmed in six different countries on four continents. Incredible, right?

What more can you say about this fantastic film? It's intense and entertaining and it's a movie that just about everyone seems to love. A lot of credit needs to go to Christopher Nolan on this one. The man simply knows how to make good movies that the public can thoroughly enjoy. He took a simple idea and turned it into something amazing. Inception is a film that could have never been made by any other director. Nolan had a vision that only he himself could produce on film. It is definitely a one-of-a-kind movie that everyone should see at least once.
