Bumblebee is the new spin-off movie from the successful Transformers directed by Travis Knight [Kubo and the Two Strings and ParaNorman] and starring singer/actress Hailee Steinfield [3 Days to Kill, True Grit].

It features ‘Bumblebee’ on the run in the year of 1987,who seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie Haliee Steinfield, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.

Bumblebee Movie: The Good

The charm and appeal of Bumblebee is it being a standalone spin-off (rather than a sequel or remake) and therefore being different from the action-heavy predecessors and features a great cast with a story that’s an action movie as well as a coming-of age story.

Halie Steinfield is perfectly cast as ‘Charlie’, a teenager who is trying to find her way in the world stumbles across the Autobot, and her character has elements of a Spielberg family in peril theme.

John Cena, fresh from smash-hit comedy Blockers stars as Agent Burns, a very 80’s macho character and the movie’s villain. He would be great in a big budget action film all by himself as he pulls most of the films’s comedy scenes.

The action in Bumblebee does not come in short supply as it maintains the visually arresting visuals as displayed in the previous movies as well as intense and breathtaking action scenes as well as mixing a cast of likeable characters, and a lot of heart thrown in for good measure.

Bumblebee is also a love letter to the 80’s that features an awesome soundtrack of classic hits such as Duran Duran as well as a love for Steven Spielberg’s earlier movies such as E.T., it’s action-packed as well an engaging story that the heart of it is the relationship between Charlie’s and Bumblebee.

Bumblebee Movie: The bad

Bumblebee may seem like a slower addition to the franchise that a lot of fans have come to expect but it is the best entry in the franchise in terms of likeable characters you can route for as well as a great story that should appeal to loyal Transformers fans.

The first is his Amusement Parking hat.  Being a gentleman of a certain age, the sun has a way of finding the bald spot on the back of his head, so when he goes to Kings Island, he reaches for his favorite hat.  It’s a Monsters University hat he got on his trip to Walt Disney World.  Interestingly, he is onto his second MU hat due to a run in with the roller coaster Diamondback and the roof of a park eatery called Potato Works.

The second ritual has to do with cleanliness.  Do you use a loofah?  If not, you should.  They’re delightful, like a little cloud of soapy happiness, caressing your parts in the most delicate of ways.  Problem with this ritual is that MacNugget’s family also use their own loofah, causing his to be pushed to the back of the bunch, which causes them all to fall each morning when he showers.  Cause and effect.  The name of the game.

Twitch is a fun place.  People play games, and you watch.  MacNugget had an interesting encounter with a Twitch streamer who said one thing in her “rules” section, but clearly meant something completely opposite of her rules in practice.  He decided to educate her chat on the proper way to cut a fresh pineapple to great results!

Sit back, grab your park hat and loofah.  It’s about to get weird.

Still utterly flabbergasted at the overwhelming mob of insane people who believe Twizzlers are better than Red Vines (delicious Red Vines), Mister MacNugget searches the web for articles defending the merits of preferring strawberry rubber to soft red licorice.  The one he finds, as you will hear, makes a lacking case in defense of Twizzlers, and in some instances, the writer makes a fool of himself most likely due to the fact that there is no real defense as the superior candy is clear.

When starting this show, MacNugget started writing segments to record, but didn’t get to them last summer when originally penned.  Today he shares one of his written pieces with you.  This one covers a fiasco pertaining to when he brought three neon tetra pet fish home for his kids.  Apparently, two of the three were not fans of their new abode and protested their move in date to their own detriment.
