Mexican ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar dela Hoya surrendered early in the 9th round to give up the fight to Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao: the fight that was supposed to rock the boxing world just came up flat Saturday night as boxing’s new golden boy totally demolished the sport’s veteran champ.

It was meant to be a clash of epic proportions, but instead it was eight rounds of watching De La Hoya get flat out beat. Actually, seven rounds, since De La Hoya only showed up for one, the first. Pacquiao ended up winning by knockout after De La Hoya’s trainers refused to let him continue in the ninth.

If anything this win may solidify De La Hoya’s decision to finally retire from boxing and allow the Filipino Pacquiao to really begin his reign as boxing’s new golden boy. But, don’t feel bad for the aging boxer, he’s already began is cushy career as one of boxing’s most successful businessmen, and it suits him.

Lately De La Hoya has been putting most of his attention towards his business, Golden Boy, which focuses on training and promoting up and coming boxers
