Kotha Janta Movie Review

2014-05-01T19:43:00.000+05:30

Film: Kotha Janta

Rating: 2.5/5

Starring: Allu Sirish, Regina , Madhurima, Sapthagiri

Director: Maruthi

Producer: Bunny Vas

Music: JB

Story:

Sirish (Allu Sirish) is a selfish person who doesn’t care about relations and only aspires to make big money. Suvarna (Regina) also works for the same TV Channel as Sirish. Though a selfish person too, Suvarna cares for others feelings. The channel head Ramesh (Rao Ramesh) makes the duo one team for getting high TRP’s. At the same time, Sirish gets another good offer from a businessman (Posani Krishna Murali) who hopes to hire the former for his new channel venture but on a condition of hiring Suvarna too. Sirish fakes love towards Suvarna in order to make her accept the business deal but they soon end in split. How will Suvarna make Sirish realize about true love forms rest.

Performances:

Allu Sirish has performed better compared to his debut Gouravam but he still needs to work on his body language. He has gone for a makeover for this commercial entertainer.

Regina was quite good and steals the show. Her characterization is perky and she is very expressive. Her on-screen chemistry with Sirish worked well. Sapthagiri has bagged yet another good role and he is naturally hilarious, Madhunandan, Josh Ravi are good, Posani Krishna Murali entertainer in brief role, Rohini leaves her mark while Madhurima looked good.

Technical Analysis:

JB musical scores are soothing and a couple of songs Osi Prema Rakshasi, Gundello are good on-screens. Background score is impressive. Richard Prasad’s cinematography is colorful and an asset for the movie. Dialogues are crisp and editing by Ashok Kuruba is neat. Production values of Geetha Arts banner are rich.

Analysis:

Maruthi who made his mark with low budget films have made Kotha Janta movie with a fresh concept of two selfish people falling for each other and the conflicts of the duo. The characterizations were established neatly giving scope for loads of entertainment and love. However, the movie gets into a predictable note and the proceedings turn routine. With a good supporting cast, Kotha Janta could have been more fun and enjoyable.

The first half of the film moves at good pace and is fun-filled but the second could have been handled well. The latter half turns boring with inadequate screenplay. The film could have made an exciting watch with a gripping screenplay and good comedy in the second half.

Final Verdict:

Kotha Janta- Routine & Partially Entertaining

Anaamika Movie Review

2014-05-01T19:38:00.002+05:30

Film: Anamika

Rating: 3/5

Starring: Nayantara, Vaibhav Reddy, Pasupathy, Harshavardhan Rane

Director: Sekhar Kammula

Producer: Endemol India Banner, Viacom18

Music: Keeravani MM

Story:

NRI Anaamika (Nayantara) flies to Hyderabad and heads straight to police station to file a missing complaint of her husband Ajay Shastry (Harshavardhan Rane). Though the police don’t take her seriously, one young cop Saradhi (Vaibhav) helps her. While the duo tries to trace the case clearing the hurdles and getting the clues, they get to know that the National Security and anti terrorist Squad is involved in it. Anamika finds out that Ajay Shastry’s name is linked with Milan Damji, who is a dreaded terrorist. What does Anaamika do? How does she overcome hurdles and reach her goal forms rest.

Performances:

Being a heroine-centric film, Nayanatara has large scope for performance and the actress delivers a neat and classy performance. She does the role in her style and justifies Anaamika characterization.

Vaibhav is quite impressive in his roles as Sarathi, Pasupathy as Khan is convincing, Harshavardan Rane is justifying in his brief role. Naresh, Thagubothu Ramesh are okay and others are adequate,

Technical Analysis:

Among the technicalities, MM Keeravani scores big. The background score is the biggest asset of Anaamika. Despite slow proceedings, Keeravani has taken the film to another level. Cinematography is on top-notch, Dialogues are crisp and neat, Sekhar Kammula scores well in direction, despite first remake while screenplay could have been much racier in first half. Editing could have been crispier in initial hour. Production values are good.

Analysis:

Sekhar Kammula for the first time wielded the megaphone for a remake, that too for a suspense thriller and yes he scores in direction. Kammula has executed some of the emotional scenes quite impressively including the climax. Like all other Sekhar Kammula films, Anaamika doesn’t rotate around youthful scenes or romance, but the director makes it a neat package.

The entire crew’s work is impressive including cinematography, music and Yandamuri’s work. Though the first half of the film moves at a slow pace, it’s the second half you’ll be glued to screens for its racy screenplay.

There are few scenes that look repetitive in the first half and editing could’ve been better in this hour. Also, Sekhar could have revealed on how Nayan gets to know about Milan Damji or what happened to Hard disk and what is in it.

Nayanatara and Vaibhav are impressive in their roles. The run length is also an added advantage for Anaamika. Despite many implemented changes, few of the crucial twists in Kahaani and Anaamika remain similar.

Final Verdict:

Anaamika- Worth a watch!!!

Prathinidhi Movie Review

2014-04-29T09:45:00.000+05:30

Film: Prathinidhi

Rating: 3/5

Starring: Nara Rohit, Shubra Aiyappa, Kota Srinivasa Rao

Director: Prashanth Mandava

Producer: J Samba Siva Rao

Music: Chakri

Story:

Sreenu (Nara Rohit) is a common man and a responsible citizen who strictly abides rules. He kidnaps Sambashiva Rao (Kota Srinivasa Rao), state Chief Minister on a purpose and the news soon go viral in the country. Police Commissioner (Posani Krishna Murali) and Home Minister (Jayaprakash) with the team arrives to the place finally but gets shocked with kidnappers demands. Who is this Sreenu? What are his demands and why does he kidnap CM forms the crux.

Performances:

Nara Rohit delivers a good performance and he carries the intensity of Parthinidhi role quite well. However, he could have worked more on mannerisms in the casual young guy role.

Shubra Aiyappa has a very limited role and she is okay. She looked good.

Kota Srinivasa Rao has a good screen time along with Nara Rohit and he is an asset for the movie. He is apt for the role as CM and as usual he rocked the timing. Jaya Prakash Reddy is commendable. Posani does a good job, Vishnuvardhan does his act well, Ranganath is impressive. Others were okay.

Technical Analysis:

Sai Karthik’s musical scores are decent and Vaishnavo Janato is good. Background score is impressive and elevating. Cinematography is neat while editing is crisp. Dialogues by Anand Ravi are an asset for the film. Prashanth Mandava’s direction could have been better though as first timer his attempt is commendable. Sudha Cinemas and J Sambasiva Rao’s production values are just okay.

Analysis:

Prathinidhi is a political genre film and it has a promising concept. The first half of the film moves at good pace with impressive dialogues though there are few illogical scenes like CM who is provided Zplus security being kidnapped such easily and police department not tracking sooner. The second half is convincing but dragging at times. Few scenes could have made realistic though but the movie has some bold yet interesting scenes which are handled quite well by debutant director Prashanth Mandava. He is successful in keeping the curiosity factor till the end. The kidnapper’s demands in releasing CM are interesting and strikes the chords. Nara Rohit, Kota Srinivasa Rao delivers impressive performances. Prathinidhi is made with good intention and the filmmakers made an honest and appreciable attempt despite few flaws.

Final Verdict:

Prathinidhi- An appreciable attempt & a decent watch!!!

Race Gurram Movie Review

2014-04-29T09:43:00.000+05:30

Film: Race Gurram

Rating: 3.25/5

Starring: Allu Arjun, Shruthi Hassan, Saloni, Ravi Kishan

Director: Surendra Reddy

Producer: Nallamalapu Srinivas, Dr Venkateswara Rao

Banner: Sri Lakshmi Narasimha

Music: Thaman SS

Story:

Ram (Shyam) and Lakshman aka Lucky (Allu Arjun) are brothers where the former is a tough cop who follows rules and regulations unlike the latter who achieves anything by hook or crook. Lucky who is in plans to fly US falls in love with Spandana (Shruti Haasan) at first sight and in parallel a string rivalry goes between Ram and Shiva Reddy (Ravi Kishan), an aspiring evil politician. As Ram collects evidences against Shiva Reddy, he plans to kill the strict cop. How Lucky does get involved in this and saves his brother and family is the rest of the story.

Performances:

Allu Arjun does career best performance and his styling is good. He is outstanding in comedy timing and dialogue delivery modulation. He pulled off the movie with an ease and he tried his best in dancing.

Shruti Haasan looked gorgeous and she sizzled with her massy dance moves in cinema chupistha song.

Ravi Kishan goes over the board at times, Saloni has limited scenes, Brahmanandam as Kill Bill Pandey excels in hilarious role, Prakash Raj is apt, Shyaam is perfect, Ali, Posani does good job, Mukesh Rishi, Tanikella Bharani, Pragathi are apt for their respective roles.

Technical Analysis:

Cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa is lavish, Thaman’s musical scores are ear-pleasing but a couple of songs ‘Gala Gala’, ‘Down Down’ looked misplaced. Background score is impressive. Dialogues are hilarious, editing could have been better; Surender Reddy scores in screenplay and direction, though it is not his best. Production values are rich.

Analysis:

Race Gurram guarantees loads of entertainment with high energy performances and ample stylishness. The film has its ups and downs but the good dose of comedy doesn’t bore you. Allu Arjun delivers career best performance with his style of dialogue modulation while Brahmanandam, Posani, Prakash Raj, Ali joins him in comedy scenes.

First half of the film is passable with interesting characterizations and comedy here and there but Surender Reddy has stored full dose of entertainment for the second half with the entry of Brahmanandam role. Ali, Brahmanandam scenes tickles your funny bones while Allu Arjun-Mukesh Rishi scenes are a good watch. The conflict scenes between the brothers are well-shown.

Despite the story being routine, Surender Reddy packed it with entertaining screenplay. The run length, misplaced songs and few action episodes are the negatives for the film while Allu Arjun, Brahmanandam, entertaining scenes are the positives.

Final Verdict:

Race Gurram- Entertainment Guaranteed!!!

Legend Movie Review

2014-04-29T09:38:00.001+05:30

Film: Legend

Rating: 3.25/5

Starring: Bala Krishna, Radhika Apte, Sonal Chauhan

Director: Boyapati Srinu

Producer: Anil Sunkara, Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta

Banner: 14 Reels Entertainment banner

Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Story:

Krishna (Bala Krishna) is an NRI who lives in Dubai and he couldn’t let go off injustice happening in front of him. He loves Sneha (Sonal Chauhan) and seeks his grandmother blessings for the marriage. His grand mother is strict and wants him to stay away from any fights. He heads to India for surprising his grandmother but with a couple of events, he fights against Jitendra (Jagapathi Babu)’s son. This results Krishna turning enemy to Jitendra and when the confronts, he remembers old rivalry with his family as Krishna resembles Jayadev (Bala Krishna). Who is Jayadev? What is the old rivalry? Howe does it end up forms the rest of Legend story.

Performances:

Bala Krishna delivers a brilliant performance. As Jayadev, he is very impressive and excelled in sentiment, action scenes with his trademark style dialogue delivery and too good screen presence. Legend is a true delight for Bala Krishna fans where the star even impresses with political reference dialogues.

Radhika Apte looks royal and here characterization is neatly etched. Her scenes with Bala Krishna are an additional asset.

Sonal Chauhan is glamorous and sizzles in a brief role. Her dubbing could have been better.

Jagapathi Babu is a revelation in the negative lead. He brought style to the role with his good screen presence and his mark dialogue delivery. Brahmanandam is wasted in a poor role, Kalyani and Suhasini Maniratnam are impressive, Brahmaji, LB Sriram, Chalapathi Rao were okay in their regular roles.

Technical Analysis:

Devi Sri Prasad’s music scores are just okay but the BGM elevates the powerful scenes and takes the proceedings to next level. Cinematography is on top-notch. Boyapati Srinu’s direction in the second half is effective while he could have made it racy in first half too. Dialogues by Rathnam are massy and needs special mention. Screenplay is racy while editing could have been crispier with 160.29 mins long run time. Production values by 14 Reels and Varaahi banners are lavish.

Analysis:

With their earlier combo being a blockbuster Simha, expectations on Legend are quite high among movie lovers. Boyapati Srinu packed it with right mix of commercial ingredients and showcasing Bala Krishna in a powerful role. Bala Krishna’s performance, mannerisms, energetic dances, sentimental scenes and his typical style of dialogue delivery are as asset for Legend and would impress all the actor’s fans. Second half is the major asset of the movie and the sharp dialogues in the second hour are an additional asset. All the lead casts Radhika Apte, Jagapathi Babu performances are impressive.

On the downside, Brahmanandam’s comedy track irritates and songs in the first hour aren’t effective. Despite the racy screenplay and exciting Bala Krishna’s performance, it lacked freshness and reminds you the shades of Simha.

While the first half is okay with few interesting moments, the interval bang in too good leaving scope to second half. The flash back episodes are effective and Jayadev’s characterization gels with the masses.

Final Verdict:

Legend- Bala Krishna’s ‘Legend’ary performance delights fans!!!

Raja Rani Movie Review

2014-04-29T09:35:00.002+05:30

Film: Raja Rani

Rating:3/5

Starring: Arya, Nayantara, Jai, Nazriya Nazim, Santhanam

Director: Atlee Kumar

Producer: A. R. Murugadoss

Music: G. V. Prakash Kumar

Story:

Raja Rani revolves around two youngsters James (Arya) and Nayantara (Regina), who uninterestingly get married due to their fathers alliance. The duo fight with ego clashes and the relationship reaches a breakup point. When Regina falls sick, James admits her in hospital and they get to know about their past love stories which end up on tragedy. Will John and Regina sort out their problems? Will form the crux of Raja Rani…

Performances:

Arya has delivered neat performance. As James, Arya has shown variance in presentation besides his good looks. Especially emotional scenes and second half are well handled.

Nayantara as Regina is apt for the role. She does an impressive job as a sensitive, soft-hearted girl with loads of attitude. Nayan looks adorable in the movie.

Jai as an innocent customer care executive seems convincing in his role, though not long-lasting. Nazriya has given a superior performance as Keerthana.

Sathyaraj is apt as father of Nayantara so as her college friend played by Misha Ghoshal. Sathyan is at his best, Santhanam excelled in his role.

Technical Analysis:

Debutant director Atlee proved his mettle and screenplay is gripping, though predictable at times. Cinematography is on top notch. GV Prakash Kumae music is anther asset while the background score is elevating complementing the narration. Editing is crisp. Production values are good.

Analysis:

Raja Rani is a simple, feel good romantic entertainer by director Atlee. Arya holds the film with his substantial performance and together with Santhanam he brought theater down with laughs. Nayanthara excelled in her role, while Jai and Nazriya Nazim performed equally better.

Despite few boring moments in the initial half and predictable climax, Raja Rani has its fun moments and delivers a good message through narrative. The love story is refreshing and offers pleasant moments with heart-warming emotional scenes.

Final Verdict:

Raja Rani- A fun-filled romantic entertainer!!!
