Today the Foundation students took part in a language experience of making vegetable soup. They thoroughly enjoyed participating in the process and steps to making the soup and of course enjoyed eating it at the end.

This term, the Year 3 students have been learning about how life has changed over time. During the first few weeks of Term 2, students explored changes in communication, food production, and school life. In the coming weeks, they will be learning about important changemakers who have had an impact on our society.

As part of this learning, students attended an excursion to the Bundoora Farm Pioneer Settlement. During the visit, they participated in old-fashioned children’s games, experimented with printing techniques, and took part in a writing lesson in an original classroom using fountain pens. They also explored the historic home on the property and were amazed to discover what life was like over 100 years ago.

As part of their learning about changes in food production over time, students even made their own butter using fresh cream and salt. They used both an electric beater and a handheld beater to compare old and modern methods. Afterwards, the students enjoyed tasting their homemade butter on fresh soft bread.

As part of our Inquiry unit on Change, the students in class 2B have been growing and caring for their very own Grass Heads. Each week, they have observed and documented the changes they noticed as the grass sprouted, roots developed and their Grass Heads continued to grow.

The results have been fantastic! Some of our Grass Heads are sporting some very impressive hairstyles, while others have grown a little wild with their crazy grass hair. What a fun way to explore how living things change over time!

One of the highlights of our inquiry topic, Change, has been welcoming two very special members to the Grade 1 family – our stick insects, Branch and Twig. The students have loved checking on Branch and Twig each day, making sure they have fresh leaves and observing them closely. It has been wonderful to see the excitement in the classroom as students notice changes and share their discoveries with one another. Watching Branch and Twig has helped bring our learning about change to life. We have loved seeing our tiny classroom friends grow and can’t wait to see what they do next!

Our Grade 1 students have loved becoming gardeners as part of our Inquiry unit on Change. They planted grass seeds, watered them and watched them grow into long, green grass.

Students enjoyed observing the changes each day and even gave their grass heads “haircuts” as they grew. Through this hands-on experience, they learnt that living things need water, sunlight and care to grow.

We are so proud of the care, responsibility and enthusiasm our young gardeners showed throughout this learning experience.

During Term 1, the Year 6 students planned, drafted, and published their own picture story books. This week, they had the exciting opportunity to visit some of the Year 1 and Year 2 classes to share their completed stories. It was wonderful to see our senior students proudly reading their work aloud and engaging with the junior students, who thoroughly enjoyed listening to the creative stories.

The Foundation students had a wonderful time at Bundoora Park Farm on Friday 22nd May! Throughout the day, the children enjoyed many exciting hands-on experiences including patting and feeding the guinea pigs, going on a tractor ride, and feeding the goats, llamas and sheep. Students also participated in a sustainability program where they learned about biodegradable materials and ways we can help care for our environment. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, learning and lots of happy memories!

Today our Year One classroom was filled with smiles, laughter and hugs as we welcomed mums, aunties, grandmothers and special loved ones. Students loved making bracelets, flowers, bookmarks and beautiful drawings while sharing special moments with the important people in their lives.

Our Year 5 students led a moving and respectful ANZAC Ceremony for our school community. In the lead-up to the event, they worked very hard to learn their speaking parts, practise readings, and understand the significance of ANZAC Day. Their commitment and preparation were evident, and they should be very proud of the way they conducted themselves.

Presenting in front of the whole school takes real courage, and our Year 5 students rose to the occasion with confidence and maturity. They spoke clearly, showed respect, and helped create a thoughtful and meaningful ceremony that honoured those who have served.

We were also incredibly proud of the rest of the school, who demonstrated outstanding respect and attentiveness throughout the ceremony. It was a powerful reminder of the strong sense of community within our school.

It was lovely to see so many parents and carers attend to support the Year 5 students and share in this important occasion. Thank you to everyone who helped make the ceremony special.
