I am wondering if there are any podders out there that might have helpful information on using I-pods in the classroom. I wrote a grant for $20, 000 and got it. I wrote into the grant that we wanted to purchase at least 20 ipods for classroom use. Please send along any valuable information on the use of ipods for educational purposes.

Podcasting in the Classroom

I have found a few different ways to podcast in the classroom and am wondering what others think about the applications. I found that audacity is pretty usable and similar to Garage Band. It does not have all the same features and falls short in some areas for media rich podcasting. The website that provides a download to audacity is: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. The more I've looked around, the more I am finding that anyone who is anyone in the world of creating is using apple products. I'm not sure that pc's can match up to the software that is available in the mac world. If anyone out there thinks differently please tell me. I was looking for a simple program last night that would allow me to transfer a powerpoint onto an i-pod. I tried at home on my pc and then came to school to see if a fellow teacher knew how. Sure enough he did and showed me how to do it in less than 1 minute. Not a big deal right. Wrong. He was using a mac that is nearly 5 years old and it had the capability. The best I have been able to find in the pc world is a product that costs 29.95 usd. It doesn't make sense to me that a company would produce an operating system that they knew would need extra applications every time you want to do a specialized task. Then you must pay for it. The best I can tell this is a way to have a low price at market entry and a more expensive one on exit. Mac seems to be just the opposite. Macs are more expensive at market entry but seem to hold their value over the long haul because of their ease of use for software components. Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed.

I am wondering if I can get some help from anyone out there that has some blogging and podcasting experience on what is the best way or a way to get started. I think I'm on the right track but want to be fully assured that I am doing what it takes to get my students started on the right road. I am also wondering if there are any of you who have looked at the option of leasing computers for your school instead of buying them. I've looked into this a little bit but have seen nothing that tells me it's better to do one rather than the other. Please respond and we'll open this dialogue.
