Ever thought about creating a Blogging Schedule to really take your blog to the next level? If you have you maybe asked yourself “How many post per week or month should I write?”. This is a tricky question and I want to help answer it with a method I developed called the 20/30 Rule. We will come back to that in a moment. First I would like you to imagine having an engaged audience that loves to read every new article you publish. It has been proven that the best way to become an expert in your field is to write. So, what is holding you back? I bet the first thing is time and a close second for some is what to write about. For the purpose of this post, I am going to help you with the time portion of your blogging fear.

Now you may want to brace yourself for this next statement because it is going to FREAK YOU OUT. If you really want to turn your blog into something that stands out online and displays you as an expert in your industry, YOU SHOULD PUBLISH 20 BLOG POSTS PER MONTH. If you have not fainted yet or closed this article, please don’t panic. I am going to show you how with just 10 hours per month you can create a streamlined blogging schedule that will change your internet presence forever. We all want that edge online and I am telling you if you blog consistently you will see how fast things will change. If you still feel this is too many posts just think about the newspaper. How many days per month the news paper come out? It is not every other day or a few days per month. It is every day. The readers that are engaged in the newspaper read it every day. This is what I am telling you to create with your blog and a blogging schedule will help you do just that.

What Is The 20/30 Rule

I have come up with a blogging schedule that I call the 20/30 Rule. This is 20 posts per month taking 30 minutes each to write. This will be a total of 10 hours per month top publish 20 blog posts to your engaged readers. You could even break that down a bit further and say it is only 2.5 hours week of blog writing. It important to understand that you can write your posts ahead of time and with most blogging platforms you can schedule their publish date. I LOVE WORDPRESS and recommend it for all bloggers that are serious and want online success. This means that you can write when you have the time and can lay out those 10 hours of blog writing each month where you can fit them in.

The 3o minutes allotted for each post in your blogging schedule is only possible if you have a writing process in place to make it easy and productive. This is the fun part guys and gals. Below is a blogging schedule template that will allow you to outline your posts before you publish them. This way when it’s time to write you already have the foundation of your article ready to roll.

click to enlarge

Because I preach WordPress I am assuming that you are using WordPress SEO Plugin to optimize your blog posts and this is why the first column of the blogging schedule template is the focus keyword. The next column is for the topic/title of your blog post. The third column is for the summary of what the post will be about. This text you put here is also good for the SEO Meta Description. The very last column is optional and used if your blog post has an offer or a CTA (call to action). I am going to give you a FREE download to this blogging schedule template in a minute but I want to walk through the process step by step below.

Blogging Schedule Process Step by Step

Use the blogging schedule template to layout your 20 posts for the month

Use Editorial Calendar WordPress Plugin to input the info from your blogging schedule

Plan out your 10 hours of writing for the month (best to be a month ahead)

Rinse and repeat!!!

DOWNLOAD BLOGGING SCHEDULE TEMPLATE

If you are using your website to create credibility for your business, it can be a complete mystery as how to develop your content in a way that builds trust as your visitors browse around your site. It is safe to say that a website is a bias representation of information because who would create a business website and say bad things about it. There are however several ways to keep the playing field level and build in elements to your site that will instantly help to develop trust with your visitors. Just to remind us all why trust is so important, is because consumers buy from businesses they KNOW, LIKE and TRUST (learned this from WH & Associates).

So as I said early there are several ways to build trust with your website visitors and I am going to give you my top 5 ways to accomplish this. I have based some of my top 5 on a business website I own called WPfixit.com. Trust is key to the success of this website because the whole purpose of the site is to collect $39 from the visitor to fix their WordPress issue. Now in order to even attempt to fix their issue, they must provide sensitive login information through a web form and have to trust that it will be safe and used in the right way. So let’s dive in and see my top 5 ways of creating trust on your website.

1. Include a Testimonials Page

This is so important in creating trust and there is a proper and in-proper way of doing this. I am sure we have all seen the testimonials pages that simply have a few lines of happy text and at the end a person’s name. There is no contact info for the person who left the testimonial or any way to verify it is real. You must allow your website visitor to cross-check the information if they want to. It could be a simple link to somewhere that they could contact the person or even a phone # if you have received prior consent. What I have done in many situations and even on WPfixit.com is have the testimonial author linked to their Facebook profile. This provides an easy way for the website visitor to reach out to the author of the testimonials and inquire some more. Also don’t forget the POWER of video testimonials. Take a look at this example.

2. Location Details

Now this is not always possible for every site because some businesses are home based but if you do have a physical location or office, make sure you include this on your website. I think having location details on a website adds to the credibility of the business and shows that they are established and gives you some warm and fuzzies about doing business with them. If there is a problem you can always just show up to their location and sort it out versus not knowing where they are and them just disappearing.

3. Links to Social Media Profiles

Let you website visitors see how you interact with others online. As a consumer I like to see how a business represents themselves to others online. Looking into their social media profiles can tell a good story of how they do business and how they treat their prospects and clients. They might have a link to their Facebook page and when you go there you see a bunch of posts from others and the business is quick to respond and interact with others about the business. This is a great thing to see because it shows they care what others are saying about them and value the interaction. Trust really goes up for me on this one.

4. Onsite Blog

One of the best ways to become and expert in your industry is to write and one of the easiest ways to become a writer online is by using a Blog. Have an area within your website that houses articles you have written about your field. This adds big time to the overall credibility for your business. Taking this a step further is that a Blog also allows the readers to interact with what you wrote and shows to your website visitors that others are engaged in your content and you are engaged in their comments. Big part of this is to be consistent in your writing. If your last article was published several months ago, it can actually hurt your credibility.

5. Live Chat on Every Website Page

This option has been critical to the conversion rate on WPfixit.com. We live in the age of RIGHT NOW and when a consumer is browsing your site and has questions, they want answers right away. Having a live chat widget on your site shows that you are available and there as needed even before you have collected any type of money or commitment from your website visitor. There are many live chat solutions available out there at no cost. Check out this article for live chat solutions.

So these are my top 5 ways to create trust on your website and I am curious what others you think can help. Comment below and let me know.

Make WordPress Landing Pages in Minutes with this easy to use drag and drop interface. You already know that WordPress is one of the most popular blogging platforms on the planet today, but it’s also used to power all sorts of other websites too. In addition to company websites and even forums, WordPress can also be a fantastic tool for all the Internet marketers in the audience.

However, most people don’t know a heck of a lot about hard PHP and CSS coding, so how can they go about designing the best looking and error-free pages? One option to consider is Marketer Plugin, a WordPress plugin that makes it as easy as possible to create professional squeeze pages, sales pages and landing pages. Let’s go through it and see what it has to offer.

You Drag and You Drop

When you look at many of the other squeeze page plugins available for WordPress, you still have to mess around with shortcodes and other potential complexities. The key difference with Marketer Plugin is that everything works in a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG fashion.

How many times have you started to design or tweak a page, finding that you’re going through the same cycle? You make a change, you click save, and then you click preview. Looking at how your change affected the page, you go on to make further tweaks, saving and previewing over and over again. With Marketer Plugin, you edit pages in real time.

The best way to understand how this all works is to watch this demo video:

As you can see, the various elements of your squeeze or sales page can be dragged and dropped into place. Each element can then be easily edited through a WYSIWYG interface that should be straightforward enough for people who are reasonably computer literate.

Stylish Headlines and Other Elements

There are many features that are built into this squeeze page plugin for WordPress. One of these is the graphic text editor.

After you type in the text that you would like to use, you can apply the several different text styles shown toward the top of that window. Below that, you can choose the font style, the font size, justification, shadowing, boldface, italics, and more.

Other tools–like the image editor, Google Map editor and the YouTube editor–work in much the same way. When you click on edit, the various options come up for that element. This includes the ability to add HTML, CSS or JavaScript codes as needed, which would be the case for counters, forms, trackers, and so on.

Free Templates to Get Started

Even though you have all these drag-and-drop editing tools at your disposal, that doesn’t mean that you have to start from scratch. Included in Marketer Plugin are three sales page templates and three squeeze page templates. There is also a “blank theme” if you want to use that instead.

The easiest way to get started is to choose the template that best mirrors what you want for your end product, and then use the editors and tools described above to adapt the template to your needs. Once you’re done, you can save your edited version as a new template, which can then be utilized for future sales pages and squeeze pages.

Affiliate Program

Everything comes full circle. You can use Marketer Plugin to promote Marketer Plugin too. The affiliate program pays you 40% for each sale generated through your affiliate link.

How Much Does It Cost?

The “limited time special price” for this WordPress plugin is $97. Since there don’t appear to be any explicit restrictions, the assumption is that this is a one-time payment and you can then use Marketer Plugin on as many sites as you want, creating as many pages as you want. If you find that you don’t like it, you can take advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee.

The Facebook Like box placed on your website /blog is probably the easiest way to attract new fans to your Facebook page.

And the same rectangular box can even help convert casual visitors to your site into regular ones. That’s because the photo pile inside the box will show visitors pictures of their friends who are already fans and when they seen a known face, it could increase their relative interest in your site.

Customize the Facebook Like Box – CSS

Facebook offers a simple Like Box plugin that you can easily integrate into your website using either JavaScript or IFRAME. You can customize the border color, the height and the width of the Like Box but, officially, nothing more.

That said, if you would like to add a background color to the Like Box to better match your site’s color theme or if you would like to completely remove the Facebook logo and other branding from the box to make it less crowded, you can easily do that with the help of CSS.

To get started, copy the code below and paste it anywhere inside your website template. Change the URL in Line19 where is says data-href= to point to your own Facebook page and you’re done. Enjoy your Custom Facebook LIKE Box!

Adjust the styles .facebookOuter & .facebookInner to get it looking the way you want.

<style type="text/css">
.facebookOuter {
    background-color:#F4F4F4;
    width:250px;
    padding:10px 0 10px 10px;
    height:250px;
    border:1px solid #CCCCCC;
  }
.facebookInner {
    height:250px;
    overflow:hidden;
  }
</style>

<div class="facebookOuter">
<div class="facebookInner">
  <div class="fb-like-box"
      data-width="245" data-height="290"
      data-href="http://www.facebook.com/fanpagemaker"
      data-border-color="#F4F4F4" data-show-faces="true"
      data-stream="false" data-header="false">
  </div>
</div>
</div>

<div id="fb-root"></div>

<script>(function(d, s, id) {

Affordable Wireless Microphone System

OK, why am I writing about a wireless microphone when we are a WordPress development company? Well I do allot of video marketing and recorded workshops that use recorded audio and wanted to go from wired microphone to wireless. So on a mission to find one and not spend a fortune, I came across the Pyle-Pro PDWM96 Lavalier Wireless Microphone System at an unbelievable price.

Now I know that you get what you pay for but this product breaks that rule. I was blown away will the sound quality and the distance I could be from the transmitter. I have to purchase an adapter to make this work with my PC and camera because you need to adapt the 1/4″ transmitter plug to 3.5mm. The adapter also makes the analog recorded become stereo which makes the world of difference. The wireless microphone does take a 9 volt battery in the microphone and a AA battery in the transmitter. I have found that they last very long and not discourage by the fact that they run on batteries.

This was surely my greatest find of the year and I wanted to share it will the rest of you.

Break down of product cost and where to get them:

Pyle-Pro PDWM96 Lavalier Wireless Microphone System – $13.11

Are you a Speaker or Author that does at least 2 speaking engagements per year and in need of an Online Press Kit? If so, then MY OWN PRESS KIT is the perfect product for you. Imagine a place on the web that you can send Booking Agents to see who you are and book you instantly for their next event. Not only can these Event Organizers learn more about you and get you scheduled to speak, but they can also have immediate and direct access to information that can be used to promote you to the event attendees.

Even if you already have a website, MY OWN PRESS KIT is the ideal solution to promote yourself online. With this sleek, sophisticated, and simple product, you will be able to show yourself in the best light online. Not only does MY OWN PRESS KIT give you a unique look that is all about you, it also puts you in control of your online presence.

How are you doing it now?

Do you feel like you’re playing telephone tag with event organizers? What would life be like if they could simply find all your information online—your availability, presentation topics, and speaking fees? Being a busy Speaker or Author means that your schedule is full constantly and it’s difficult to catch every booking call. MY OWN PRESS KIT is the best way to feature yourself and your abilities as a Speaker or Author.

To prove it, ask yourself these 3 simple questions:

How are you booking your speaking engagements?

Where do you send Booking Agents for your information?

How do you get your photos & bio to the event organizer?

MY OWN PRESS KIT automates these processes, makes it easy for you, and makes it a delight for conference organizers. As a Speaker or Author you may have a page on your current website that has a small section about being available for speaking events. You need to say it in a BIG WAY that you are available for immediate booking of speaking engagements. MY OWN PRESS KIT is the easiest and most effective way of promoting yourself online.

That’s right Godaddy HACKED! If the website you’re trying to access won’t load, chances are it’s a GoDaddy joint that’s been taken offline in a massive hack for which one person is claiming responsibility. The domain registrar acknowledged in a tweet that it was offline on Monday, and The Next Web reported the site’s DNS servers had been disabled as well, “which means GoDaddy hosted e-mail accounts are down as well, and lots more.” GoDaddy hosted more than 45 million domain names as of 2010, according to DomainSherpa.

Someone tweeting with the handle @AnonOpsLegion claimed responsibility for the attack on Monday, saying in a tweet that he or she had taken down GoDaddy’s servers “because well I’d like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that I can not talk now.” @AnonOpsLegion’s profile identifies the account holder as the “security leader of Anonymous” and an “Anonymous official member.” There’s not much information available yet about what happened, but GoDaddy tweets that it’s “working feverishly to resolve as soon as possible.”

Godaddy.com is down, but so are some of the site’s DNS servers, which means GoDaddy hosted e-mail accounts are down as well, and lots more. It’s currently unclear if the servers are being unresponsive or if they are completely offline. Either way, the result is that anything whose DNS is hosted on GoDaddy appears as if it is also down, because it cannot resolve.

Below is the Twitter User that started this all, which has some 3,900 followers on Twitter.

WordPress.org Cons

You need a good web host, which generally costs $7-12 a month, or thousands of dollars per month for a high traffic site

Requires more technical knowledge to set up and run

You’re responsible for stopping spam

You have to handle backups

You must upgrade the software manually when a new version comes out

If you get a huge spike in traffic (like Digg or Slashdot) your site will probably go down unless you have a robust hosting setup

WordPress.org is free blogging software. With WordPress.org, you can install themes and plugins, run advertisements, edit the database and even modify the PHP source code. WordPress.org is the home of this software. Anyone can download the software for free but it must be installed on a web server before it will work. Web servers are generally not free. Hosting your own WordPress software can be fun and rewarding; it also places full responsibility on the blogger. If you mismanage your web server, you can lose your entire blog.

For no charge, WordPress.org provides downloadable blog software, community mailing lists, community support forums, documentation, and free themes and plugins.

WordPress.com is different. You do not have to download software, pay for hosting or manage a web server. When you sign up for a WordPress.com blog, you will get a URL like “andy.wordpress.com” or you can map a domain so your blog is available at “example.com” without the “.wordpress.com” portion. You do not control the software or the database; FTP and shell access are not included. WordPress.com is based on a multi-user version of the WordPress software which does not permit uploading of PHP themes or plugins (although many popular plugins are built into WordPress.com ). Popular javascript embeds such as YouTube are supported, but for security reasons some of the lesser known embed codes will be stripped out. CSS is also restricted by default for security reasons, but you can purchase a paid upgrade to gain the ability for full CSS editing. What you can do on WordPress.com is blog for free.

For no charge, WordPress.com provides web hosting, unlimited database storage with redundancy and backups, automatic software upgrades, community support forums, multi-lingual administration and themes, real-time traffic stats, comment tracking, blog and post rankings and other features not available anywhere else. These features will always be free for blogs started on WordPress.com; if you ever find yourself being charged for these at WordPress.com, pinch yourself and wake up!

WordPress.com is a commercial enterprise owned by Automattic, a company started by the founding developer of WordPress and staffed by full-time developers, designers and support agents. It runs a multi-user version of WordPress called WordPress MU. WordPress MU is also free, Open Source software. Developments sponsored by Automattic are regularly contributed back into WordPress.org so the community can benefit.

WordPress.com offers paid upgrades as a way to provide premium features without forcing bloggers to host their blogs elsewhere. These upgrades are optional. Basic blogs will always be free on WordPress.com and the basic services will continue to be upgraded with better features.

What Exactly is WordPress Multisite?

In a nutshell, Multisite enables a single WordPress install to act like a network of sites centered around a single domain (http://yoursite.com). It allows for either new sub-domains (http://subdomain.yoursite.com) or sub-directories (http://yoursite.com/subdomain), and it does all this virtually, which means you do not need to create new folders. Instead, by just adding some code to wp-config.php and .htaccess, you have thousands of sites right at your fingertips.

Multisite also allows for easy network management through a single admin dashboard which a user with appropriate permissions can access via any network site’s admin bar. Multisite is by no means “new”. It has been around for almost as long as WordPress itself, although previously it was developed separately. Since WP 3.0 it has been included together with WordPress, and, as I mentioned above, it seems like it will only get more user-friendly as the WordPress devs seem to be paying some particular attention to it in 2012.

Next, let’s look at installing Multisite on a typical WordPress install.

Installing WordPress Multisite

For many people, installing Multisite can be a nightmare. I hope to alleviate that by taking you step-by-step through both a sub-directory and sub-domain install. Let me say first, that it is by far easier to install Multisite on a new install, even though it is still possible to do it on an older install with pre-existing content. However, there could possibly be permalink issues.

With that said, the following steps assume that you have completed a standard install of WordPress. However, the steps can apply to a new or previous install.

Activating the Network Setup Menu Item

In order to even begin the process of installing Multisite, you need to open your wp-config.php file, and right above

/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

add the following:

/** Allow Multisite **/

define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

The first line simply is a comment that will help us keep our code tidy. Next, we tell our WordPress install to allow Multisite functionality. Once you have edited and saved the file, you should now see the following in your “Tools” submenu:

If you are using a previous WordPress install with active plugins, you will get a notice in Network Setup to deactivate all of your plugins before you continue.

Configuring the Network from the Dashboard

The first screen in “Network Setup” will look like this:
From this screen, you have the following items to configure:

Site Addresses – From here you will select whether to use sub-domains or sub-directories. If you choose to work with sub-domains, you should verify with your host if it is possible.

Network Title – The title for your network.

Admin E-Mail Address – The admin contact for your new network.

The server address should already be filled in to display how your new permalinks will appear.

If this is a pre-existing install, you will receive a note saying that only sub-domains are possible due to possible permalink conflicts. If you are installing on a localhost, you will only be allowed to install via sub-directories.

After you have configured these settings, click install, and you should see the following screen:

Finishing the Multisite Install

Now, let’s look step-by-step at the instructions given on the “Enabling the Network” page. Before you dig into this, I would strongly suggest that you backup your wp-config.php and .htaccess files. This will save a lot of headache in the future.

Create a new directory named blogs.dir, and place that in your root folder’s wp-content folder. This folder must be writable by the web server, as it will be used to store all of our network’s uploaded media.

Add the following code for a subdomain install to wp-config.php right above:

/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

define( 'SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', true );

$base = '/';

define( 'DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'yoursite.com' );

define( 'PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/' );

define( 'SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );

define( 'BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );

and this for a sub-directory install to wp-config.php right above:

/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

define( 'MULTISITE', true );

define( 'SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', false );

$base = '/';

define( 'DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'yoursite.com' );

define( 'PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/' );

define( 'SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );

define( 'BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );

Make sure to change yoursite.com to the URL of your site – make sure it is without WWW. Broken down, this code identifies this as a sub-domain or sub-directory install, and sets your main site’s ID as 1. Every site has an ID, and it is important to note these as you start to work with plugins and build custom queries.

Add the authentication keys provided to wp-config.php. This will help secure your install.

Finally, you want to add the following code to your .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine On

RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

# uploaded files

RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d

RewriteRule ^ - [L]<

RewriteRule . index.php [L]

This code will replace any other WordPress code that you find in .htaccess.

For another reference on setting up a WordPress Multisite network, be sure to visit the “Create a Network of WordPress Sites” page in the Codex.

Things to Note with Multisite Installs

Multisite is easiest to install on a fresh WordPress install with the sites as sub-directories. That isn’t to say don’t install it any other way, just to point out the easiest path.

If you use Multisite, then you can not give WordPress it’s own folder. It must be installed in the root folder of your site.

Your web host may not allow for the creation of sub-domains. Be sure to check this out before attempting a sub-domain install.

You must activate the network feature from the WordPress dashboard. Simply adding the code to wp-config.php and .htaccess is not enough.

Navigating the Network Admin

In order to access the Multisite admin dashboard in WordPress 3.0 and later, simply hover over My Sites in the admin bar at the top of the browser window, and click on Network Admin.
Once in the dashboard, the menu looks like this:

The Network Admin menu has the following submenus:

Sites – From here you can create new network sites, visit admin dashboards, delete sites, and edit site settings.

Users – This submenu allows you to manage users by creating, editing, and deleting them. You can also see which users have registered on specific sites.

Themes – With Multisite, themes are managed from the network. Themes must be installed, activated, and edited from within the network admin dashboard. They can still be switched in the site dashboard.

Plugins – Just like themes, plugins are installed and activated on the network from this dashboard. Plugins can still be activated and set up in the site dashboard.

Settings – This submenu lets you set the network name, admin email, registration settings, welcome emails, initial site settings, and upload settings. This is a great submenu to configure if you are using Multisite as a blog engine or social network.

Updates – From this submenu, you can do network-wide updates on WordPress core, plugins, and themes.

Next, I want to walk you through creating your first network site. If you are familiar with using WordPress, everything else should seem pretty normal, with the exception of having to go through a network dashboard to activate plugins and themes instead of a normal site dashboard.

Creating a New Site

From the network dashboard, navigate to Sites –> Add New.

Next, you will need to specify the site address, site title, and an admin email. The screen will look like this:

Once added, you will see a message at the top verifying the site’s creation. You can now visit the site’s dashboard, or edit the site’s settings from the network dashboard. Two emails will also be sent. Once will go to the network’s overall admin notifying them of the new site, and one will go to the site’s new admin, notifying them of their login credentials.

And that’s how easy creating sites can be in WordPress MS! Now, let’s look at some plugins.

Indispensable Plugins for WordPress MS

Here is a list of some plugins that I suggest using on MS installs, and, as always, if you have others to add throw them in!

WordPress MU Sitewide Tags Pages

This plugin allows you to create a specific blog on the network where ALL recent posts on the network can be found. From within the plugin, you can also specify this to be on the main site that you set up in the initial Multisite install. The max number of posts to display can be set as well.

Full Details

Multipost MU / ThreeWP Broadcast

This plugin allows users that create content on different blogs to “broadcast” their posts to other blogs on the network. In addition to post content, categories, tags, and custom fields can also be broadcasted. To ease publishing to multiple blogs, blog groups can be created.

Full Details

More Privacy Options

This plugin allows you to set the privacy level of each blog from within the network dashboard site’s settings panel. The options are:

Full Details

Domain Mapping

This plugin allows users to use their own domain names on your Multisite network. This plugin does require a knowledge of adding and editing plugin files and a basic understanding of how servers work and your specific server settings. A great tutorial for setting up this plugin can be found on Otto’s blog, “WordPress 3.0 Multisite Domain Mapping Tutorial“.

Full Details

Multisite User Management

This plugin allows admins to set the default role of each, individual network blog. Once activated, a list of blogs appears on the network settings page. This plugin is different than the New Blog Defaults plugin, as it targets the individual sites as opposed to every new blog. For instance, if you want one site to allow all default users editor capabilities and another to have subscriber capabilities, then this is the plugin you are looking for.

Full Details

New Blog Defaults

This plugin creates defaults for any new blog created on the network. Once activated, a new menu appears under the network Settings submenu. From here, you can edit any of the normal WordPress settings: general blog settings, reading settings, writing settings, permalink settings, discussion settings, privacy settings, and media settings. You can also choose a site’s default theme, and set other options like categories, links, and initial user settings.

Full Details

Extended Super Admins

This plugin allows for the creation of specific user classes with specific roles. The plugin, once activated, can be found under the main network Settings submenu. The capabilities list is extensive.

Full Details

Sites that Could Benefit from WPMU

Now that I’ve outlined how to install Multisite, how to create new sites, and what plugins to use, I thought it would be great to put some ideas down about possible projects that could benefit from Multisite. As always, if you have other ideas or Multisite installs that you’ve worked with before, feel free to add them in the comments.

Blog networks

Social networks

Internal networks for organizations or companies

Educational sites

Sites that span cities, customer groups, or other various groups

Any other WP site that may need the option for multiple sites within one install

Unless you’re the marketing director, it’s likely that you will need to work with someone to create the editorial calendar, especially if you’re a freelance blogger for business.

Because it can be difficult for others (especially when they aren’t your employees!) to deliver content when asked, getting them involved in a planning meeting for the editorial calendar can be a great way to motivate them to deliver. It’s one thing to ignore repeated requests from a fellow employee, but if a person has agreed to do something in front of a group of employees, and possibly their boss, it’s more likely you’ll get the information you need, when you need it. And if not, at least there’s a paper trail of accountability.

But before we even talk about an editorial calendar, I want to emphasize that you and the client or team put together some sort of style guide. Agree what isn’t ever going to get posted, talk about the style and tone of posts (as they might be different for each category) and decide which employees will be involved and those who won’t. Make sure that someone will be the gatekeeper of the blog, otherwise known as the editor.

This is something to stress to your team/client. I advise strongly about letting anyone post without some sort of oversight. You can certainly empower a hand-selected team of bloggers within the company, but just opening it up for any employee to directly post is dangerous.

I don’t want you to think that I am trying to restrict who in the company can blog. Absolutely not! I am only saying that it needs to have at least one set of responsible eyes on it before it gets posted. Plus, Jim from the mailroom has no idea how to use WordPress and create effective tags. As much as blogs are immediately changeable beasts, it’s best if the blog gets posted as perfect as possible. Hopefully, when you post that link on your other social media accounts, many people will click on it and read your post. Clients and managers alike will sleep easier knowing that a responsible person is in charge of the process.

This is also the time to create a blog and social media policy and set of guidelines that need to be strictly followed by all employees. Blog posts live forever, and once it has been picked up by a search engine or a news-aggregate service, any potential customer or employee can find and read it. Even if posts are deleted, they can still live on in archives online, and haunt a company for years. By creating a policy and policing the guidelines, you can avoid most mishaps of this nature.

So, when you’ve got the team together, in one room or virtually on a webchat, start the content planning:

Look at broad subjects that your company is focused on. These can form content funnels for many other topics.

Look at who your target audience is—maybe you have several.

Look at a timeline for your service or product that can be broken down into blogs, whether it deals with production, customer or sales cycle or project process.

Decide on what type of blogs will work well with the company and the content you can produce. Decide if you want how-tos, customer interviews, CEO posts, and so on.

Look at regular features. Perhaps on the first day of every month you post a blog on a specific topic, or every Tuesday you post a Tips blog.

Look at the time of year. There are many businesses that have seasonal offerings or tie-ins, and others that don’t can use the seasons to pull in blogs about people and community.

Frequency: This can be fine tuned as the input starts pouring in. If you have a number of volunteers to write content, you can easily post more than once a week—if they stick to the calendar. I would recommend to start with an aggressive posting schedule at the launch to get some traffic flowing and the search engines to notice the blog (especially if it’s a hosted blog), then taper down to less posts if necessary.

After you get this groundwork done, you can start dialing down and create an actual list of blogs to be written. Include a section for assigning the writer and the date for posting. Of course, this could be improved for your specific circumstances—especially if you have a lot of contributors, as you’d need a column for their due date for turning in their content.

You could also use online tools, like Google’s Calendar or even two free plugins on WordPress to organize your deadlines, editors, bloggers and topics. You don’t have to be restricted to a document to organize this editorial calendar.

Yes it is true today July 17, 2012 Facebook will no longer offer a SHARE button track your FB shares in real time which people can put on their website.

Facebook sharing is a huge way to generate traffic to your website and form awhile now there were 2 options of allow your visitors to share your content on Facebook with there friends. One way was putting a Facebook SHARE button on your site that when pressed would pop up a window that let’s you either post to your timeline or send as a private message to one of your friends. The 2nd way was to have a LIKE/RECOMMEND button on your site and when a visitor clicked on it, a action would be generated on their timeline and news feed of their friends showing they LIKE/RECOMMEND the page.

Now lets talk about the down sides of no more Facebook SHARE button.

The SHARE button let you change the title and description.
The LIKE/RECOMMEND button does not and takes the title of the page and some text of the page to display on Facebook. There are some ways to set what you want to use for this but require some more advanced understand of how your website works.

The SHARE button let you select the image that was shared with the post.
The LIKE/RECOMMEND button does not allow for image selection and in some case has an odd way of picking the image. It is not always the 1st one in the content. Just like I said earlier about the picking the title and description, there are some ways to set the image you want shared.

My take on it is that Facebook wants to keep it real and that is exactly what the LIKE/RECOMMEND button does because the visitor will not be allowed to change what is shared.

What is your take on this?
