You should have your name typed onto the image someplace so that I can read it easily.

It should also be named correctly, I will be checking the name of the file and you will not get full credit if it is not named correctly.

Extra Credit - For 10 extra points, in the upper LEFT HAND CORNER of your image, use the shape tool to create a red, blue or green lightbulb from the custom shape tools.

Again, you have just 10 minutes from the ringing of the tardy bell to get this done.

Today's Lesson - Selection tools

There are two new tutorials in the Tutorials tab.
I decided I should address the excessive talking that goes on in the class while I am speaking. To put it simply, it must stop and stop now.

I am sure some of you took this class because you thought it was just a easy "play time" for 56 minutes and that I would not care much about it. Well, I do. I have had to turn away many students who would like to take this class but it is too filled up. But I am happy to remove any of you who do not want to be here.

Last year was a bit easier as I had classes as small as 9 students, 9! Needless to say, it was a tad easier to manage. This year, however, each class is at least 45 students and without some type of order, there will be chaos and that is not acceptable.

As long as you follow the simple rule of not speaking while I am speaking we will have a great time in this class and I guarantee you will learn a lot!!

Thank you,
Mr. Woody

PS, on a good note, I want to commend you all on keeping the classroom clean. You have certainly respected my wishes in picking up after yourselves and being responsible young adults. Thank you!!!

New project is posted

Check out the "Current Project" tab.

Another note about the computers...

So in the first day we have already had computers moved, login accounts renamed, files deleted, applications moved, etc etc etc.

I will quietly remind those of you who did these things on Thursday. Yes, I already know who you are. It is not to happen again or else grades will be reduced.

I do not like being a tyrant, I much more prefer the softer, gentler side of myself, but with nearly 270 students I have to have rules and they must be followed for all of us to be able to get our work done this semester.

If you follow my steps and do what I say each and every one of you will be able to use Photoshop quite well. In fact I think you will amaze yourself at the quality of work you will be able to do.

Now that you have your computers...

Now that you have your computers we must make sure we follow the rules as I mentioned on Tuesday.

They are:

1. Do not move the computers unless I approve it.
2. Do not damage the computer in any way.
3. Do not change the default settings of the Student account. (No new backgrounds, login icons, etc)
4. Do not alter any other persons folders or files.
5. Be careful with the power supplies.
6. If you spill on the computer, you are responsible for it.

I may add to this list, so check it often. :)

I suggest all of you check this blog daily and I also suggest you follow the blog. It also links to a facebook account and Twitter account.

This will be an interesting year. We have nearly 700 more students than we did last year, we are only about 80 students from capacity at Birmingham. Needless to say then, all classes will be full. Because of this I will need your cooperation more than ever. With so many students in my class it can easily get very rowdy and noisy, that will be unacceptable. So I ask all of you to respect your fellow students, the classroom and of course me. Please act like the young adults you all are. :)

We will have a lot of fun this year. You will learn a lot and will have fun doing it.

If you need to speak to me about anything please feel free to always stop by and talk.
Today marked the first real day of summer break for all of you, yesterday was of course Memorial Day.

For those who are unsure about the meaning of Memorial Day, it is a day set aside to honor the men and women who have served this nation in a military capacity and has passed away either in combat or afterwards.

I hope all of you are enjoying your summer and I look forward to seeing my new seniors again next year. To my old seniors, stay in touch. Technology makes it easier and I am always happy to lend some helpful advice.

Have a great Summer!!
It was either taken from my desk or from my bag.

I did not have much money in it, maybe 20 or 30 dollars. Of course I had several credit cards and other things that are just a pain to replace.

I am saddened because I had hoped that if one of you were truly in need that you would ask me for help. I have loaned money to several students in the past.

i would really like my wallet returned so if anyone know of its whereabouts I would appreciate it being returned. No Questions asked and I don't need the money, I just want to get my Id's back.

Thank you,
Some will choose the route of continuing the stay in the education cocoon by going to college, others will instead embark on the reality that is life.

The change will not hit you right away, for every summer you leave school only to return in the fall, this time however, things will be different. Some will be packing for college, leaving the security of home for the first time. Others will take on their college career locally while remaining under the watchful eyes of your parents or those who love you. Yet others will attempt to find their place in the world. There is no wrong path, just make sure you take a path. The worst thing you can do, is doing nothing.

Yes, you are young and you should enjoy the perks that come with being young. But I ask you all to begin to look forward. Look at where you want to be later in life. While it may be difficult to fathom right now, stop and think about it. Is what you are doing today and everyday moving you closer to that goal? If it is not, why are you doing it?

When I decided to accept teaching this class I knew that one of my goals was to not only teach you how to be designers and how to be Photoshop artist, but also about life in general. What is it like to be respected and to offer respect in return? What are the perks of hard work and dedication?

I have also tried to create an atmosphere where everyone is comfortable in their own skin. I did away with all of the political correctness. I joked about you, you joked about me, we laughed and nobody got hurt. Remember that as you go through life, do not be so thinned skin and while we all may look different, we are all just the same inside. Judge your fellow human by their actions and their actions alone but laugh with your fellow human about our differences.

I hope that all of you enjoyed this class as much as I did. You should know that you helped contribute to discovering my new passion in teaching. I love what I am doing and I hope that each of you are able to do what you love to do.

Please know that I am always here for you. I may not always be at Birmingham because honestly, who knows what the future will bring, but I will always be around so if you ever have any questions or are seeking the advice of an old goat like me, please feel free to ask. No question is too dumb or too odd.

Something that most people do not know is that ducks mate for life, so these two were partners.

I noticed earlier this week that just the male duck was coming around. This of course made me concerned about the well being of his mate.

Well I have heard from some of your fellow students that a Birmingham student kicked the female to death. i don't know who did this or why they did it. But if you know who it was, please report them to the office or your SLC.

Microsoft Word Training

Friday we will have a short demonstration of Microsoft Word.
