We’ve had our first two football games and our first football win of the year!

We’ve spent our first three weeks in class learning about sequences and series, noticing and wondering about Eating Grapes, working in groups and with partners and sharing our work with each other.

We’re all learning more about Standards Based Grading and focusing our thoughts on overall understanding and the “**Power of Yet**.” (See the cute reminder from Sesame Street below – we’re never too old for Sesame Street!)

Overall a great beginning! Over the next few weeks, we’ll wrap up our formal work with Sequences and Series and move on to Probability and Statistics. I’ll continue to post notes, homework and grades on our class Canvas site that can be accessed HERE. If you are a parent of a student in my class, please do sign up to be an observer in the course. We’d love to have you peeking over our shoulder. The instructions for signing up for that account are HERE. As always feel free to contact me through email or through the contact link here or in Canvas. Have a great weekend! The best is **YET** to come!

This week in Algebra 2 Honors we’ll be taking our test on Radicals and moving on to Exponential and Logarithmic Functions. We’ll be looking at how to solve exponential functions and introducing logarithmic functions (the inverse of an exponential.) We’ll have another SOL Review Quiz this week – due next Sunday. We’ll also be doing another POW (Problem of the Week) this week. We have a unique opportunity to work on the same problem as some students in Trinidad. Their teacher is one of my Twitter friends and she would like us to mentor them – give them feedback and hints. I’m going to need at least 10 volunteers – please consider participating! A unique opportunity to learn from and with students in another country!

In Algebra 2, we’ll be starting our Radicals unit after finishing our toughest unit of the year. After spring break, we’ll finish with the radicals, take our simulation test and finish up our last few topics before beginning our formal SOL review.

The year is flying – the last nine weeks starts this week. Time to finish strong!

]]>An update on the schedule.

In Algebra 2 Honors, we’ll review for our unit test tomorrow – Wed, 3/18. On the block day, I’ll answer a few more review questions, we’ll start our next unit on Exponential and Logarithmic functions and you’ll have some time to do your SOL homework quiz for the week (just posted it) and the unit practice test. On Friday, we’ll take the SOL portion of our unit test and I’ll take questions from our new lesson.

Don’t forget the following due dates!

Friday, March 21st – SOL portion of Unit 7 Test

Sunday, March 23rd – SOL Hwk Quiz Week3 due by 11:59 pm (I will sending out limited reminders!)

Monday, March 24th – Free Response portion of Unit 7 Test and Unit Practice Test due

In Algebra 2, we’ll continue our review of unit 6 in preparation for our test on the block day. During our long period we’ll review a bit more and take our unit assessment. We’ll also have some time for some more practice and reassessment as well as a little break in the middle. On Friday, we’ll start our next unit on Radicals which should be a little easier than this past unit!

See you tomorrow!!

]]>Hoping to bring my new skills to our classroom soon!

This week in Algebra 2H, we’ll be finishing up our Radicals unit and preparing for a test next week. We have started reviewing for our SOL using a review homework quiz each week. Those quizzes will be posted on Mondays and are due the following Sunday night by 11:59 pm. They will always be on Canvas. We will continue to have our regular homework quiz on our block day.

In Algebra 2, we’ll continue working on our Rational functions unit by adding and subtracting rational expressions and solving rational equations. We won’t have a quiz this Friday as we’ll be finishing our unit and preparing for a test next Tue/Wed!

Looking forward to seeing all the parents Tuesday night at Parent-Teacher conferences!

In Algebra 2H, Ms. Colville started reviewing exponent rules and gave each class some practice. On our block days at the end of the week we’ll practice some more with the exponent rules and do a little graphing with radical functions. No formal homework quiz in class but students will be having a homework quiz SOL review assignment over the weekend on Canvas. Believe it or not we really only have two more units after this one. Time is flying by!

In Algebra 2, Ms. Colville started the multiplying and dividing rational function notes and celebrated our 100th page! The middle of our interactive notebooks. Congratulations to all my Algebra 2 kids for making that project such a success. I’m proud that we’re both keeping up with them! On our block day we’ll finish the multiplying and dividing, do some practice and then try some adding and subtracting. No quiz this week! We have basically 3 units left and we’re done! Amazing… SOL’s and the end of the year will be here before we know it!
