Another snow day?

We had a wonderful math class yesterday celebrating our completion of our fractions unit, playing Jeopardy, and eating some delicious food!

Recipe Booklet Project

Today in math I introduced a project that we will work in class on over the next week. Here are the expectations and grading for the project. The students will have Wednesday (after the quiz), Thursday, part of Friday, and all of Monday to work on the project in class. They also may need to work on it at home. Please let me know if you have any questions. The booklet is due on January 19th. Students may bring one of their recipes prepared that day for 5 extra credit points.

H1N1 Clinic

The H1N1 vaccine will be available at school on Friday. If you would like your child to recieve it, please return the form that should have gone home with them today.

Snow Day Schedule Changes

Because of the snow days last week, the Book Bistro that was supposed to be on Friday, January 8th will take place tomorrow for Mrs. Goerend's class.

The math quiz over learning target 4 that was supposed to take place today will be on Wednesday, January 13.

I'm excited that we will have a full week of school this week! We haven't had one in a while.

Also, tomorrow I will introduce the Cookbook project to both math classes. Feel free to bring in any cookbooks you would like to scour for recipes. The reciepes have to meet specific requirements, so please do not choose any until I introduce the project tomorrow.

Canned Food Drive

The elementary is having a food drive. There is a competition among the classes to see who can get the most and make a cool sculpture out of them. We have 6 cans so far in Mrs. Goerend's class. Collection ends Monday, so bring in your food!

Christmas Gift Exchange

This information should have gone home yesterday, but in case you didn't get it, here's the information:

Our class Christmas party will be in the afternoon on Wednesday, December 23. We will be having a gift exchange between the students. This is voluntary. If your student would like to participate, please bring a gift worth no more than $5 for a student of the same gender. We will number all of the gifts and have students draw a number for the gift they will receive. Please make sure the gifts are age appropriate.

Changes because of snow days

Because of the snow days, we will have a quiz over JUST learning targets 1-3 in chapter 5 on December 22 (pending we have no other weather changes). We will cover learning target 4 after Christmas break and have a mini quiz following.

Also, the test over verbs will be on December 23.

The assignment calendar has all of these changes and is up to date!

Quiz Date Changed

Because of the snow days and a few other schedule changes, the quiz over chapter 5 will be December 23.

The learning targets for the quiz remain the same:

1. Students will be able to multiply fractions and mixed numbers.

2. Students will be able to divide fractions and mixed numbers.

3. Students will be able to solve problems by solving a simpler problem.

4. Students will be able to change units in the customary system given a chart.

Holiday Concert

I have had a few parents email me about information for the upcoming concert. Here is the information Mrs. Maiers has given to me. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact her.

We will be having a 5-12 music concert on Monday, December 21^st. The 5^th-6^th grade will be from 7:00-7:30. We’ll have an intermission until 7:45, at which point the 7-12 portion will begin. 5^th-6^th graders are welcome to leave at 7:30 after their portion is done. I will have more information soon about what time the 6^th grade will need to arrive. If you have any other questions, let me know!
