We have just started studying words with long vowels. Mastering this concept can be really tricky! There are so many rules to remember. Here is a GREAT website to practice your math facts. When you get to the website find the word "addition" at the top. Click on the word and many games will show up. Make sure you check with your parents first before using the internet. Have fun!
Please make sure that your child is doing the homework I send home. It is so important to sit down together and go over it. It does not take very long-maybe 20 minutes. Please have your child retell the homework book. "Retell" means to talk about the beginning,middle and end. These are all questions I ask on reading tests given in the classroom. I love all of the support you give to your son/daughter. It makes a big difference when we work together. Thanks!!!
Our vacation is two weeks long! That is fourteen days where the children will NOT be in school to practice reading. PLEASE, PLEASE have your child read during the two weeks. I will send home a bag of white books with each child. Everyone needs to practice reading with accuracy, speed and expression. Please discuss the books with your child. They need to be able to retell the book in order without peeking. They need to be able to identify the beginning, middle and end. Thank you for wanting to help your son/daughter become a SUPER READER!!!!!

All first grade students will be taking the Language Arts Checkpoint test on Monday december 5th and the Math Checkpoint test on December 7th. These tests are used to assess your child's performance on standards that have already been taught this school year. These tests will also assess standards that will be introduced during the third and fourth quarter. The results of these tests will help guide future instruction. Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and is in the classroom by 7:50 am.
We just finished our unit on landforms. We studied coast, plateau, plain, desert and mountain. Here is a Power Point of landform pictures. See if your son/daughter can describe and identify each landform. Have fun!!!
The children must be able to count money to $1.00. We have been using our touch money system in class that allows the children to count by 5's. They are getting better at this everyday. Please have your son/daughter count money for a couple of minutes everyday. You could give them a pile of your change and ask them to count it. This will help in a huge way.
