Justified Win For Stricker

Golf Channel - Not Your Average Bear: "Maybe Stricker is the new breed of superstar. The kind who doesn’t pound his chest or sport any bling. The kind who appreciates the fan support and isn’t considered a villain by any of ‘em. Most of all, maybe Stricker is a superstar for one major reason: He doesn’t think he is."

Better mechanics in baseball pitching is producing faster ball speed

How much faster can a fastball go? I know this ain't golf but read the last part about the hips.

Tiger

2011-04-12T08:08:00.000-07:00

Tiger says swing change starting to pay off - I took a little time to analyze his swing yesterday. There is no doubt that his back swing is better, more on plane and therefore more likely to come down on the correct swing plane. His forearms used to be over rotated and that's no longer the case. His arms are more in sync with his torso through impact than before. Now his hips are "sitting" longer (the move before the hips turn) in the down swing and the arms are staying in front of his torso. Because this start to the downswing is better, he is more able to continuously turn his hips through the impact area. His swing looks much better. Period. It should be noted that his new swing coach, Sean Foley, deserves some credit. But none of this matters unless Tiger begins to win again, and the winning must include Major Championships. This article points out that Tiger is going to focus more on his short game now which is essential because his putting stroke is awful right now. He has a burst of acceleration near impact that causes it's own problems but also encourages some compensated deceleration on short putts (especially under pressure). There is no doubt in my mind he lost the Masters for that reason. He better get to work.

Rickie Fowler gets a lesson in Augusta National decorum

2011-04-06T21:13:00.000-07:00

Rickie Fowler gets a lesson in Augusta National decorum : "Augusta National member Ron Townsend asked Fowler to turn the cap around. Fowler declined, saying that he wanted people to see his face. Townsend asked him again, and this time, Fowler complied."

I know there are certain dress codes us golfers need to follow, especially golf professionals. However, as for this "unwritten rule" of how a hat is "properly worn," I dont think wearing a hat backwards will ruin golf. I grew up learning how to play golf at a public course wearing T-shirts and jeans but now I work at a golf course where jeans are not allowed and collar shirts are required. I personally enforce these rules, no exceptions whatsoever. But I can care less on how a hat is worn. Rickie Fowler has brought a new group of followers to the PGA tour. This is a new generation. Do you think that in 1920, if we were competing against Bobby Jones, they would let us play in the golf attire we have now? And how do you think the general public will really react if someone on tour wears a pivot-sleeve golf coat with matching knickers and golf stockings, English flannel light-weight golf shirt with detached collar, a foulard tie, and an English cheviot knockabout golf hat? What is more important, apparel or getting the ball in the hole?

What do you think?

Ian Poulter: ‘I don’t think [Tiger] will finish in the top 5′

2011-04-06T16:17:00.000-07:00

"'I don't think he'll finish in the top 5,' Poulter said, citing Woods' play at the World Golf Championships at Doral four weeks ago. 'The shots he was hitting at Doral, they were very inconsistent,' Poulter said. 'You can't afford to hit shots like that on this golf course and get away with it. I don't think you want to rely on your short game that much around this place.'"

I know this has nothing to do with golf but this is one inspiring story that I had to share with all of you. Another reason why I believe dreams do come true.

The Paint Wars Of 2011: "It's odd that a once-proud company is resorting to tactics like this." - GeoffShackelford.com -: "'It's aggressive, but we don't think it's risky aggressive because the product stands for itself.'"

TaylorMade retaliates against Callaway's statement on paint not being innovation. Personally, I like to see these companies go head-to-head in this "markating war." Golf needs a little controversy now and then.

RAZR Hawk Driver | Performance Over Paint | Callaway Golf

RAZR Hawk Driver Performance Over Paint Callaway Golf: "Paint isn't innovation. Developing breakthrough technology with Lamborghini that blows titanium away is. The new RAZR Hawk Driver with Forged Composite is six yards longer than the R11™. And no amount of white paint can cover that up."

Callway throws an agressive first punch against competitor TaylorMade.

Villegas

Villegas withdraws after tweaking back: Look, anybody can injure their back. He could have had some childhood falls that created the current problem for all we know. But I am here to tell you that his golf swing has an exageratted upper body accelleration during the downswing that fights against his lower body.... and that's not healthy.

Dustin Johnson at the PGA

2010-08-19T05:13:00.000-07:00

Weep for Johnson if you must, but rules are rules . This article misses the point. My buddy, Gregg McHatton, believes the PGA of America (which runs this tournament, not the Tour or USGA) dropped the ball here. He was telling me how USGA (for the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, etc....) officials follow the leaders on the last day and advise them on everything in order to avoid this very problem. Where was the PGA official that was following this group? Why didn't he run up to Johnson and tell him it was a bunker?
