Language Requirements:
Admission decisions are based on academic record (minimum of 3.0 GPA for last 2 years of study), letters of recommendation, research experience and GRE scores. TOEFL scores are required of international students (minimum TOEFL score: paper based 600, computerized 250, iBT with a combined score of 70 in reading, listening and writing).

Financial Support:
Incoming graduate students are generally provided support in the form of a research assistantship by the Department for the first year of study. The assistantship allows the student an opportunity to dedicate their time to study and work in the lab without having to seek outside employment. It currently covers tuition (except for a $195 student fee per quarter) and provides $2,084/mo. In subsequent years support is provided by either the Department, by a research grant of the research advisor or by appointment to the Pharmacological Sciences Training Grant. The highest qualified applicants are eligible for consideration for an ARCS Scholarship that provides an additional stipend of $7,500 for the first year and $5,000 for the next two years of graduate school.

Does it play better if you have a great GRE score along with a great academic profile? Maybe, you never know! The truth is these things can never be gauged! Never answered! There is a guy I met on orkut who has 1530 and 2 national publications, killer academics and awesome recommendations. Still managed rejects from GTech, Purdue, Ann Arbour, Stanford, UT Austin, Wisconsin-Madison and last....but turns out in no way the least, Texas A&M. He got a single admit from pennsylvania state university and very prudently (if i may say so) decided on trying again next year.What exactly makes you different? What makes you unique? I have been looking for answers to these questions for a long time now! Simply because I myself have lost all hope and have started getting crazy ideas with absolutely no meaning and sense! What does one need to do to secure an admit from a good university? Well! when I get the answer, I would definately pen it down...................

A guy once told me that a great GRE score can take you places! I guess he was right! More often than not, a great GRE score assures you a top grad school, but may not assure you the very best of the schools. Anyways the trick is simple enough i guess

1 -> get a good GRE & or TOEFL scores
2 -> get good academic grades
3 -> do extra project work and good research
4 -> try and get great recommendations
5 -> go for an industrial internship
6 -> write a good SOP........

and then u might have a shot at the best !!!!

One thing which i feel is of paramount importance is planning before execution. Proper planning can be what sets a successful candidate way ahead of competition. An important factor in planning is beyond doubt, time. Making judicious use of the same is essential. Take up the process seriously, right from about two years in advance. Contact Professors, draft essays and keep everything planned. Plan for the dates keeping in mind the deadlines and the concept of rolling admissions. Make sure that your preparation is up to the mark. Get a good score, the maximum attainable by you and then you are definitely well set. Get the recommendations as soon as possible and make sure they are decent if not great. Apply as soon as you can to bypass the crowd and be an early bird....................................and yes, do remember to visit your nearest temple........................................

On-going topics include the effects of hormonal imbalances and antihypertensive agents on cardiac function and metabolism in hypertension, biomarkers and treatment of arthritis, effect of septic shock on drug metabolism, developmental neurotoxicity of environmental agents, hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity of heavy metals, pharmacogenetics, calcium- and non-calcium mediated pathways of cell death, and the development of inhibitors to cell signaling events. Financial Aid
Qualified students may be considered for financial aid on a competitive basis. A limited number of teaching assistantships providing stipend of $10,255 -11,135 per academic year, with tuition waiver, are available. Financial support, which is not guaranteed, is available on a year to year basis. Generally speaking, financial assistance is not given to a student the first year. We encourage all incoming students to be prepared to fund themselves for at least the first year. Most students select their major professor by the second semester and funding is discussed at that point. In addition to the teaching assistantships, students may receive summer funding if they are involved in grant funded projects. The college may have available several research assistantships funded by our pharmaceutical and health care industry research partners.

Admission
Applicants for admission to this program should adhere to the deadlines for applications set forth in The Graduate School guidelines. The applicant must submit an official transcript of all academic work at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the score on the graduate record examination (GRE) tests and results of the TOEFL Examination (as appropriate). Generally, a student will begin studies in September, but it is possible to be admitted for January. In addition to the general graduate student admission requirements, the applicant should be a graduate from a College of Pharmacy, or some other appropriate scientific discipline from a recognized University, and have a grade point average demonstrating the ability to do "B" work or better in graduate-level courses. Admission requirements: GRE, TOEFL (as appropriate), bachelor degree in pharmacy or equivalent, and CSC 200 or equivalent. Written and qualifying examinations are required of all Ph.D. candidates.
