I am an ardent reader, and like most readers, I have my own list of favorite books, newspapers and columns. I write too, albeit occasionally but I did not have to include that, did I?

My parents and elder brothers and others slightly older than I am brag about being the Whispers generation. They got to enjoy their weekly column written by the son of the soil, of the stories of Pajero and the Investment. He was and still is one of the most celebrated writers this country had. I was not old enough to enjoy his work but Goat Matata tales did it for me.

I want to pay tribute in no particular order, to the men and women who complete my week, and make me pick up the newspaper first thing whenever I get home. They might never get to even read this but I will take my chances.

When i captured this amazing moment, i was on the balcony of a place i'd rather have not been. The rooms were shabby, the service was worse and there was a pungent smell coming from somewhere.

KINDLY KEEP IT ON THE LOW

Eaves- dropping is terrible, right? Nobody likes eaves droppers. It actually borders immoral if it does not cross the very line. In more developed democracies you can actually be sued for listening in on another person’s conversation. It’s an invasion of privacy.
As much as you would like to stone or lynch a person eaves dropping on your conversation, then you need to ensure you don’t create the opportunity. Don’t twist and curl your toes in anger when you are the one speaking at the top of your voice on your phone. People who need this lesson most are those who choose to answer their phones in matatus. Those angry and high pitched arguments with your caller will just irritate us and make us listen more.

TRAFFIC IN NAIROBI

Turning lemons to lemonade… if you have ever been held in traffic in Nairobi on a rainy day, then count yourself as a person who is slowly perfecting the art of making lemonade (pun intended). One wonders what happens to the roads when it rains because cars literally stop but, I digress.
When held in painfully slow traffic, these are some of the things you can do. Look out for new billboards. They are always interesting and catchy and offer something different for the eye to see. In case your usual route lacks new billboards, well, re-read the old ones. Go ahead and check out that chic on the billboard or the guy with a perfect smile. See that picture perfect family and let your mind wander.

This week marked the beginning of the hearing of the presidential election petition.The petition filed by Coalition For Reforms and Development(CORD)challenges the announcement of Uhuru Kenyatta as the president elect in the March 4TH election.The Supreme Court of Kenya,consisting of 6 judges is mandated with hearing the petition and making a ruling.

ONLINE TRIBALISTS....

"The absence of war is not the presence of peace".
Thousands of congratulatory messages have been streaming in from every corner for having held a peaceful election.Kenya and Kenyans at that were keen on re-branding the country after the skirmishes that rocked the country in 2007/2008.
Every person hailed the country but while this was going on,hatred was taking a whole new direction.An estimated 6 million Kenyans have access to the internet with the most popular sites are Facebook and twitter.Political discussions were trending with each and every turn of event and opposing camps took it upon themselves to show their (dis)satisfaction.
Name calling and brutality,psychological wars and emotional tear-downs are still rife in the internet today.Local TV station NTV aired a segment in there news about this new trend. it was an eye opener for most people,both victims and perpetrators of the hatred that they are doing the country as much injustice as killing each other on the streets.
Authorities have established that they will conduct a hunt of those involved and align them in court.Maybe now people will be more careful about what they post when they sit down on their keyboards.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina is the 266th pope.crowds in St.Peter's Square at the vatican cheered and bells rang out as the smoke appeared.

OUT OF THE WOODS

Ambassador Francis Muthaura is a free man.His case against humanity was dropped yesterday by ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.Bensouda told the panel of judges that her side pursued the case without bias or prejudice.
In his statement to journalists,Muthaura said he is free but he is not rejoicing yet.Speaking at the Serena Hotel,he said he had seen justice been man-handled and it has broken his heart.
He hopes the ICC will handle other cases justly.
Mr.Muthaura's lawyer,Kamir Khan,speaking at the same venue said that Bensouda has done well for getting her house in order.
