Welcome to a new school year! I am very excited to be teaching Reading this year!I will be working with 1st-5th Graders on Reading, Comprehension, Fluency, and Vocabulary. The first two weeks will consist of observation and evaluation to ensure all students are receiving the help as needed. The children are currently working on learning the routine of the Daily 5 Program during their Reading times. The children will be working on their weekly word sorts by looking for spelling patterns, phonics, sight words, and vocabulary. The word sorts will be the focus of spelling tests at the end of the week. All the students took a Spelling Inventory so a proper starting point can be found. The teachers and I will start assessing the children to find an accurate book level, which will help us with Guided Reading.

Grade 1: We are working on beginning and ending sounds, rhymes, word families, sight words, and short vowels through texts, poems, and hands-on activities. We are learning about Daily 5 Program by introducing one component a week. We are currently working on finding a “Right-Fit Books” for us and “Read to Self”. We are becoming good readers!

Grade 2: The children are working with their Weekly Spelling Sorts and reviewing The Daily 5 routine. We are reviewing the Daily 5 Program by introducing one component a week. We are currently working on finding a “Right-Fit Books” for us and “Read to Self”. We are becoming good readers!

Grades 3-5: The children are working with their Weekly Spelling Sorts. We are reviewing and working on the Daily 5 Program by introducing one component a week. We are currently working on finding a “Right-Fit Books” for us and “Read to Self”. We are becoming good readers! We will start reading a class novel. We will discuss comprehension and story elements throughout the book.

Home Activities: It is important that children read for 20-30 minutes daily.
