The main role of colorguard is to distract judges and tell a story and to hit band members in their instrument or head. The normal colorguard mainly is composed of all girls but sometimes has one or two boys. The guard performs at all times in the year and must learn two different shows plus solo and ensemble and captain tryout routines. It is known as the "Sport of the Art".

[edit] Their Strength
The guard is considered to be extremely strong considering that they have to hold a certain position or angle for long periods of time until they all look exactly the same. They sometimes even lift weights to be able to twirl faster, and toss higher.

[edit] Standard Guard Procedures
They always have a small room that they cram into and try to spin weapons and flags while the drumline and percussion have a bigger room... They also always have their own bus in which they must attempt to apply make-up without stabbing themselves in the eye.
When the captains or instructor tells you to do it again, it normally means to do it 10 more times. When they say it is better, it is still not perfect and will continue to harass you until you do something perfect. When you get an injury, you are told to rub some dirt on it and do it again. When you are told to drop, you must do it in front of everyone so you can be harassed for being late, etc. I bet you all can guarantee that you are terrified of girls with weapons and big metal poles. Just ask the band, they have had enough of our harassment.
ca-ref-pub-4667192688408437

Band Director Fires Successful Mt. White shoes were shined. Loose hairs tightly tucked into plumed hats. Instruments poised at just the right angle.

The pressure was on for the returning champions as about 30 bands from throughout Southern California competed in the 33rd annual tournament of bands at Mt. Carmel High School. An estimated 3,000 students and an additional 3,000 parents and volunteers descended on the school parking lot. Dozens of big rigs and school buses served as boundaries for the warring bands.

Members of color guards practiced tossing brightly colored flags. Band members blasted through scales and rehearsed steps throughout the lot.
ca-ref-pub-4667192688408437

Amarillo.com | Local News: Hitting a high note 10/23/09

Band director guides students to do more in life
They leave every rehearsal the same way: standing behind their chairs with each music stand pushed to the base.
